The original Rosslyn Hotel in Midlothian

The proprietor was an joy, Focused, customer orientated, and the fact he speaks 3 languages just topped it off. The ambience was on point. My favourite go to in Midlothian. I’ll definitely be back.

Came to the Roslyn Inn as it had quite good reviews for an overnight stay on our travels. The location is good and the rooms were a decent size and overall clean. Although upon inspection our glasses had lipstick on it from a previous guest and not clean. But not a huge deal. Had dinner which was not too bad and the night staff were friendly. In the morning we went for our pre-booked breakfast. It's hard to describe how much our visit deteriorated from there. Every bowl available for cereal was dirty as well as half the glasses. I can only assume they don't have a dishwasher. Ordered the veggie breakfast. It arrived a few mins later. The sausages were microwaved from frozen (we could actually hear the microwave being used right next door). The potato scones were also microwaved from the pack (who does this?). Everything was just terrible from start to finish. Lazy, microwaved and inedible. The table we sat at had a dirty plug right next to us. Everything just looked worn and unclean. A shame as half the visit was good and half bad but The Roslyn Inn holds the title for the worst breakfast in Scotland I've ever had. And I lived there for 30 years. So two stars is the highest this can be.

Beef was like leather. Described as being slow cooked overnight, which is hilarious. Potatoes were hard in the middle. Veg was watery. Gravy was tasteless. Disgusting to charge almost £19 especially when lookwarm and having been seated next to a kids christmas karaoke party... Judging by the sarcastic responses from the business to previous bad reviews I doubt mine will make much of a difference. Refunded for one meal because it was 'hardly touched' then offered complimentary coffee.

We got Soup, Cullen skink and a Roast turkey dinner. All of which were fantastic! All cooked to Perfection! Arran and Freya were very lovely and accomodating! Will definitely be back sometime!

Been here a few time and really can’t fault it. Although went tonight and had the Beef Short Rib, the taste was really good but the short rib was about 70% fat, now that’s no fault of the chef as such more the supplier… when the waiter asked how it was I explained to him and he said he would pass that onto the chef… we then heard nothing back, so that was the only downside. A gesture of goodwill would have been nice… Now that said it won’t stop me from returning. I must admit the staff are all fantastic and very polite.

Location is perfect for the chapel. Room 1, was a newly decorated room, but comfort was absent. The owners went with cheap thin mattresses and pillows, left at 6am after giving up hope of any sleep. The interesting light feature: former corridor emergency light, just raised the discomfort level adding to the lack of sleep as it permanently lit the room in hideous luminous green.This room also boasts: smallest, coldest shower, cracked and chipped floor tiles, matching yellow silicon around the toilet base and corners. After eating in the restuarant, I can recommend sticking to the bar. Steak pie was overcooked, poorly seasoned, lacked texture, colour and flavour, puff pastry top had lost its puff, and was inedible. I did try contacting the owner, twice, but they couldn't be bothered to respond or acknowledge any issue. Be aware reviews are censored through their booking website. In sum: it's a pub, with rooms, no care for customer service, not comfortable and simply not worth the money. Suggest you avoid unless an insomniac.

We never expected such a large, comfortable restaurant from the outside. Service was excellent and food very good. I had Cullen Skink, a smoked fish chowder which was very good, along with a poached pear, goat cheese salad. Lots of good things on the menu. We went for a late lunch. Highly recommend

Visit again for the second time, okay, it's the only pub/restraint within walking distance of the Caravan sites in Roslyn, If you are eating there, DON'T have the Biscoff Chorros they are vile!!!.

We had another great night here. Staff are always super friendly and attentive. Food was excellent - Sunday lunch. Huge portions and we loved the beef and fresh roast vegetables. We love this place and Richard and team work hard to ensure guests have a good experience.

Stayed at this inn two nights, 21st & 22nd June 2024, to visit Rosslyn Chapel, Edinburgh and the Royal Highland Show on the 23rd. Arrived late evening, no problem with that, just phoned to let the know. Over the two days/ nights my wife and I enjoyed very friendly attitude from the staff who also provided invaluable advice on traveling to Edinburgh, and visiting the local Rosslyn Chapel. There is a small but adequate private car park and plenty of on street parking. The interior has obviously had a significant and very tasteful recent redecorating throughout. Our room was a reasonable sized double, well appointed, excellent bathroom/ shower, and appeared to have all new furniture, and well stocked tea/coffee making facilities. A wide variety of breakfast options, hot and cold including some local variations. Our cooked options were soon ready and hot, as was the tea and coffee. We had one evening meal on the Saturday. The restaurant had also benefited from the recent "makeover". Menu choices, good varied, again with some local influence. I had lamb, my wife the butterfly chicken, both excellent, and reasonably priced. The venue proved an ideal location for our itinerary, and a definite return visit. Highly recommended.

The rooms are very old. The bathroom is very small. Water flows little. The bed is uncomfortable. The staff is friendly. Close to the city by car. It does not have its own parking lot, but you can park in the village.

We got a last minute booking at this wonderful place in the four poster bedroom.... Aiden and Freya and the barman (whose name I didn't get) were outstanding.. in their welcome, engaging, good humoured, helpful and good service... We loved the four poster bedroom which had been refitted and decorated recently. The bar area was enjoyable and the breakfast was brilliant. Went for a meal and a drink - food was very tasty (definitely try the squid), decent Beers on tap. You're also walking distance to Rosslyn Chapel, and next to the 37 bus to Edinburgh

Best place to have lunch was perfect

If their rooms are half as good as their food, staying at the Rosslyn Inn must be quite the experience. Visited a couple of times for dinner recently (following recommendation from local friend) and LOVED both the food and the vibe of the restaurant. The white chocolate waffle alone is worth the drive from Edinburgh… kudos to their very attentive and professional waiting staff, whose service makes the Original Rosslyn Inn a truly five star experience.

I cannot believe some of the poor reviews,I'm a super fussy foodie and the food here is FABULOUS! Being vegetarian it can be a hit or a miss with veggie pub food but I have literally no complaints. My hubby who is a true carnivore said his was faultless also. The staff were lovely and attentive,always impressed when young people are so polite and friendly (also loved the waitress's pink hair 😀) we had two small dogs with us and this wasn't a problem. We will definitely be back next time we go to the caravan site

Came here for dinner as I really wanted to dine in the conservatory area. Ordered the venison which was simply sublime. The staff were attentive and very friendly, and the conservatory with the little fairy lights is just so pretty, made for such a lovely atmosphere. I'm dying to know their secret to the amazing flowery hanging baskets though, mine never look half this good, lol.

Came here for Afternoon tea. First class service. Food excellent. Portions huge. Cannot fault the establishment at all. Highly recommend

Came in for a light lunch after we had walked along the Rosslyn Chapel Way. Lovely inside, service was great as was the food. Only minor gripe is that the menus look a bit tatty. There’s plenty of tables outside so we will be back for sure once the sun comes out.

Pretty good pub food but the service ruined the experience. Sat for a few minutes before I headed to the bar to get drinks. Was told that they take the orders at the table. I sat for a further 5-8 minutes before I snapped. The kids working there where all stood behind the bar with thier backs to the customers, chatting with each other. After the food the waitress took over 20 minutes to return to take the desert order (X1). I just paid and left. There were only 3 couples in at the time, so it wasn't busy.

Update from last time we visited. We have spent a fortune in this place, with every year at the xmas meal, but... today at 15:30 we popped in for a drink only to be ushered out and told we had to go to the bar as the seating area we were in was only for food. We have on many occasions sat there as its very cosy. And there were ONLY 2 couples in. Sorry but wont be back. Xmas meals also. Update to owner... You mentioned resources...There were 2 girls behind the bar both looked bored as no one to serve, also the man who ushered us out. THERE WAS ONLY 2 COUPLES IN?? If you were busy I would have understood.

We went to the restaurant to celebrate mum's 94th birthday and the waiters couldn't be any more nice and helpful. The food was great and mum was treated to a Happy Birthday with the dessert, which made her day even more special. Thanks to all, we'll be back!

Absolutely lovely place to stay end eat. Great location outside of Edinburgh but close enough to drive or get a taxi into the centre. Great food and service. Rooms are comfortable with all modern amenities but keeping to the traditional style.

We stopped for a coffee with our 2 dogs. Lovely lady advised we could go to conservatory area but as we just wanted coffee it was fun in bar area. Doh friendly serve meals too..next time we'll plan a walk with lunch stop 👍

Went here with family for a birthday lunch. Food was very good as was the service. Meal prices were reasonable but we were charged £1.95 each (£3.90) for 2 plain rolls - no butter or filling - as this was all my grandson would eat....
