The Polash in Maldon

Reading other reviews, it appears the restaurant has lost its way, and sadly I am adding to this, as our experience was not great. We arrived as soon as the restaurant opened and were served stale popadums - you could bend them, so clearly these were 'old'! I could not describe how the peshwari nan tasted, but we ordered two of them and two of us took one bite and left the rest! The mains were pretty tasteless and bland and most of our party didn't finish the food. Taste is subjective, so others may enjoy the food, but sadly I won't be returning until there is a new chef...

I have to say the food was very tasty I thought the mix grill could of had a bit more on it for the price

Not living in the area, this restaurant was among a few within a 5 mile radius that we were recommended. We chose it because its website had an amazing looking dish on the front page. At the restaurant the staff were friendly and willing to talk through dishes. The menu was quite extensive without being overwhelming. For the uninitiated there was a menu with full descriptions of the dishes. The service was excellent - quick with the drinks and poppadoms, then slower and giving more time for us to choose our dishes. The food was well presented and the portion sizes just right. Our different dishes were excellent and just per the menu descriptions. We will definitely go to The Polash next time we have cause to visit Southend. Our thanks to the people who gave us the recommendation and to all the staff for their humour, conversation and service to make our dinner a completely enjoyable meal and a great evening out.

Popped in for an impromptu curry in the evening. Service was friendly and quick. Lots of choice on the menu. Hot tasty curry tender chicken and reasonable price. Will be returning

Following a disappointing takeaway we decided to eat following a recommendation. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the food and the portion sizes were very good. Friendly attentive staff made for an enjoyable evening.

Everything about this place is fantastic. Definitely the best curry restaurant in Burnham On Crouch. Great service and delicious food. We attend regularly now and I would highly recommend it.

Me and my boyfriend come here quite often! It’s a lovely place to eat the food is always amazing and the service and surroundings are impeccable! Never mad a bad experience and could not fault it one bit. Our all time favourite date night by far! Highly recommend.

Enjoyed a really tasty Indian meal with lots of side dishes. Chicken was very tender and beautifully cooked. Would recommend to anyone who is looking for a takeaway especially as restaurants are closed at the moment. Friendly, helpful staff and very clean premises.

Ordered a takeaway from here, first time trying this restaurant and last time. Small portions, really bland and greasy and took an age to arrive, possibly the main chef hadn't turned up but easily the worst meal of this type i've eaten in a long time

We have used the polash numerous times and the food is of a very good level What I love about the curry house is they always like to help and recommend another similar dish - which love to do as too easy to just have the same dish every time. Very good and takeaway is awesome as well

Visited early on Thursday evening. Friendly staff and good atmosphere. Cobra beer very good. Poppadom starter very good. Main pathai dish, mushroom rice, garlic naan and onion bhaji were all excellent. I would be very happy to visit again, and hope to be able to do so. I recommend a visit.

My girlfriend and I had a great night here. Lovely food with excellent service and a decent price. A real gem of a place. Really enjoyed my chicken tandoori pathia, would highly recommend this dish and the restaurant in general.

I came to the polish on Saturday 20th July. The waiter Luke was a credit to the restaurant. The owners should be proud to have such a pleasant attentive young man working for them.His recommendation of the starters and chicken tikka were amazing .We will definitely be back.

Sailed to Burnham after long trip and both fancied an Indian. The owner was serving us and told us it was the oldest Indian in Burnham-on-Crouch which opened in 1983. The food was amazing. Even had a deal on mains where it’s buy one get one free during week days for standard main dishes so I reverted. A full meal for 2 including starters, popadoms, nans, rice and drinks was £33. Decor is a little dated but would it be an Indian if it didn’t?

We had another very tasty meal here at the polash. Can't fault the food or the service, staff are very friendly and accommodating. Lovely old style Indian restaurant with traditional Indian cuisine, cooked to an excellent standard. I would recommend the tandoori trout if you're a fish eater, absolutely gorgeous and arrives sizzling!

100% best curry I’ve ever had. Chicken Ceylon was perfect - thick, flavoursome and smooth! Great portion sizes for a reasonable price and the service was incredible. My family and I was well looked after. I was delighted that they were able to cook to order, I don’t like my Ceylon too hot, so they cooked it medium and freshly cooked a small nan (as a normal size is very large - good for some but I wouldn’t eat it all)! We will be returning after such a positive visit.

Absolutely great meal, loved my tandoori chicken korma, and that coconut rice was to die for. Excellent service and great wine.

I’ve eaten here in the past (and found the meals reasonably enjoyable) but I was horrified at the rubbish served at my recent visit (apart from the poppadums, which were delicious).

Butterflied prawns were as dry as feathers, the ‘lamb’ curries my family and I ordered were tasteless and lacked even mild spice or flavour, I’m even convinced that it was even lamb.... topped off by slow service. Genuinely the worst curry I’ve eaten in the UK!

Working away from home, my co- workers and I used this restaurant. We all eat Indian all over the place and were besotted with the consistent quality of this restaurant. An asset to Burnham-on-Crouch.... please stay consistent!

Como turista a la ciudad a menudo comer en este restaurante. Últimas visitas han sido excelentes. También visito el uno en Shoeburyness que también es deliciosa. Recomiendo el cordero o el Sag Pollo Tikka Dansak. Pero para ser sincero todos los platos salen bastante bien, depende de lo su a! Gran sabor y muy buena relación calidad-precio para lo que te dan.

Staff always attentive and efficient although portion size has decreased ever so slightly. Fantastic 2 for 1 offer on main meals.

The staff are so polite and helpful and nothing is ever too much trouble. The food is always first class and you are never rushed through your meal. There are plenty of staff so your every need is always catered for without delay. The restaurant was its usual busy self tonight with a great atmosphere. Very disappointed we have eaten in on many occasions also had many take away but must say tonight was the worst meal ever, hardly any meat in mains I mean 4 bits, 3 popadoms when there was 4 of us, to top it all it was just warm, nan bread felt like it had been in the fridge, won't be eating in or out for a while.

This is probably the best Indian restaurant I've ever eaten in. The service was great. And the food really tasty. Freshly cooked poppadoms, chicken Korai and pilau rice. Really tasty. We'll come again when we're in the area.

We had not been to the Polash for many years .Pleasantly surprised by its decor and friendly welcome. The staff were great and no problem when we asked to change the wine .Top notch food as good as any top curry house highly recommended..

This restaurant is very good and the food is excellent, I really enjoyed myself whilst I ate here and the staff are very welcoming you also get fast service. I have been here a few times with my friends and family and every time the food has tasted delicious I would defiantly recommend the polash to anyone who asks for a good Indian restaurant in my local area.

Had a fantastic family meal for 7 on a Sunday evening due to it being my daughter's 18th birthday. Nice and cosy feeling especially with it being so cold outside that night. We had starters and mains and found both to be of a very high standard. Quite a few of us had the King Prawn Puri for starters which was extremely delicious. If you fancy something off the menu, the staff are very helpful with their suggestions. All in all a very enjoyable experience.

We have been going to the Polash for many years now and it continues to provide the best Indian food in Burnham. We have tried the others in the area but none of them compares to the taste and the hospitality at the Polash. The owner is so friendly and kind and always smiling. The food is always fresh and customised to your needs. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough, it ticks most boxes that you could ever want when going for a quality Indian meal.

The service is good, they can cope with large groups, the food is OK but not the best in Burnham.It is consistent and I guess that's why it has been in the town for at least 30 years.

I had several excellent meals here, this has been a firm favourite in burnham for more than 30 years. Quick, friendly service and a range of the usual curry house dishes all superbly cooked. Sadly now I have moved away from burnham, but this is one of my all time favourite restaurants.

Fantastic Indian restaurant. The extremely lovely waiter Rahel chose a dish that wasn't on the menu as I wanted something more authentic, I wasn't disappointed. Chicken tikka Nigeria is the bomb. I now want to get married just so I can have it at my wedding.

They adapt their curries however you like and they are super tasty! Look out for Jeera rice appearing on their menu soon!

We recently moved to the area and still trying all restaurants around it. went to the Polash on Saturday night and it we did not had the best experience. Waited for our drinks for ages. When they finally arrived, the beer was room temperature. All team members seemed to be rushed off their feet and didn't really have time to any customers. Waited for our main courses for about 30min or so. The food was ok but nothing special. Our sides were slightly warm which makes me think they were left in the kitchen for a while. No one asked how is our meal. We paid and left. No goodbye either.

We live in a neighbouring village and just love the food and excellent and friendly service. They also do collect only takeaways which are nearly double the size of most competitors so there is always enough left over for the next days lunch.

I have walked by with my husband, as I do not live in Burnham-On-Crouch. So my husband noticed The Polash!!!! So I walked in and I have been settled down pleasantly by a couple of lovely staff, gave us as much time as we thought about ordering. The food was great and fresh, TASTING LOVELY!!!! The staff was nice and polite, and as well as the owner, will be coming again but this time with my kids friends and family and him.

Celebrated my birthday with a group of friends and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Atmosphere was really nice and cosy and the restaurant was fairly busy for a Tuesday night. Food was lovely and we received birthday drinks on the house at the end. Got 8 main dishes and with the 2 for 1 offer - worked out very reasonable between the 7 of us. Will visit again very soon.

Popped in with a few colleagues when down there on business recently. Service was OK, food was great, loos need a bit of TLC.Overall, good.

Although we live in the village close to Burnham (Mayland) that has a lovely Indian restaurant (zara), we decided to venture over to the Polash. The service was outstanding and very friendly. The food was absolutely stunning and arrived in no time at all. I am very fussy and required alterations to the traditional menu and they were very accommodating to my changes. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant to anyone as the food and service was very good.

As the title says "Hard to put into words" but i'll give it a go! The food was too good that I am really astonished because I have never been to an Indian quite like it! The portions were large and filling and I struggled to munch it all even without a starter (which I regret but WILL get one NEXT TIME, i'll make some room)! There was plenty to eat in each dish ordered and I am a very big food lover so I am very hard to please! My partner said the food was delicous and he was cheeky and asked the chef if he could cook the curry his prefered way "Chicken Mussala, Madras Hot"! He said the flavouring was superb and he couldnt complain. Perfect! The resturant it's self was very clean and I wouldn't of been able to spot an imperfection even if I got onto my hands and knees. The staff were extremely lovely and treated us will full respect. The set up was very professional but filled with a enjoyable atmosphere. The food did not take long to cook, considering it was very busy and I was very shocked with the bill because it was very low due to their offer 2 for 1 on mains. It was splendid. Chose here to eat as it offers a 'buy one get one free' deal on main courses, so making it very good value.The food was fine. though could have done with a bit more curry sauce with the biryanis. Service was good and friendly.

Very pleasant and tasty dishes - good portion sizes, and not greasy like a lot of Indian Restaurants.Decent enough selection of vegetarian options, and the 2 for 1 main course deal really made a nice dent in the bill at the end of the meal. Would definitely recommend and will be back again soon.

The food is superb. It's not watery and greasey like most Indians. Lovely thick curry that was in good portions! Service was brillant and it was all very clean and had a wonderful atmosphere.

I loved the food in this restaurant. It is very reasonably priced. Four of us visited and each had poppadums, main meal, rice and side dishes. 4 beers and a bottle of wine and all for under £80. The portions are not huge but there is enough so no wastage. Will definitely be returning.

If you like modern, contemporary Indian restaurants with glaring lights, glass partitions, square plates, small portions and televisions mounted on the wall blaring out Indian TV channels, do not go to The Polash in Burnham-on-Crouch.The Polash is a very traditional Indian restaurant with its roots firmly planted in the 1980s (it was actually opened in 1983). I lived in East London for thirty years and consequently have sampled some of the finest Indian cuisine available in England. We moved to Burnham 18 months ago and after one visit we knew that The Polash was going to be our ‘regular’ curry house.The restaurant is spacious, clean, nicely lit with staff who are friendly and attentive; the consequence of it being a family run business. The food is first class and tweaking things that are on the menu is never a problem; for example a Chicken Tikka Masala cooked to Madras strength. The food is never greasy or over/under cooked and presentation is excellent with good sized portions.The Polash has a permanent two for one offer every day of the week on main courses; if you buy one main dish the second one is free (you pay for the more expensive of the two). This means that the price of a meal for two is very reasonable. They have bottled Kingfisher lager and Cobra on draft, as well as all the spirits you would expect at a restaurant.We have visited this restaurant many times and have never been remotely disappointed with the food or service. I thoroughly recommend The Polash to anyone who likes a decent Ruby Murray in a traditional English based Indian restaurant.

Not eaten in house but had quite a few take aways. The food is always fresh and very tasty. The buy one main meal get one free offer is available at any time and offers fantastic value. Really friendly staff too.
