We regularly play scrabble here. The staff are friendly, pleasant and helpful. Excellent pub. Haven't tried the food but it always looks good and others often are eating there. 21 Oct 24. Now have tried the food and is good. Reasonably priced. Admittedly not mitchelin Star but good pub grub. I now eat there regularly before Scrabble club.

Reasonable menu freshly cooked but wrap meal bland and totally tasteless.

Very limited menu at present and the food was not as described on y there Website, so don't go by that. Mostly breakfast, sandwiches and burgers. Friendly and welcoming, early days for the new tenants so hope they make a success of it .

Pub was very busy with great live music with the Rascals. Pub was rocking great night out

Food was all day breakfast when we went for lunch, but it was very good and reasonably priced

This pub has changed owners. They are not serving food. They have no idea when they will reopen the restaurant. I have asked that they update their website and Facebook pages as we planned to book a table for a large family get together. They blame the previous owners for not telling the punters that there's no food (yet). Not impressed with their careless attitude and lack of interest in customers.

Popped in for food. Service was 5*+. Seldom to find such a friendly place. Staff couldn't do enough to help. Had a Ploughman's, absolutely packed plate. Delicious.

Brilliant pub, with very friendly staff. We visit from outside the area and stayover in our Motorhome in the carpark. The food is great and very reasonably priced and there has been a great live act on Saturday evenings. Breakfast was delicious 😋

We absolutely loved this place , the staff are all lovely and it's very dog friendly.. great food menu at an excellent price ... we had two meals for £16.00 and you could not fault it, food was cooked beautifully and portions was large... our waitress Lauren was brilliant and checked in with us every 10 to 15 minutes making sure we didn't need anything else... and her bubbly personality shone through, we shall definitely be going again, this place is campervan friendly and allows you to stay over in the bottom end of the carpark which is fairly flat , just let the landlady know of your arrival , book a table for food you will not be disappointed...❤🐕

AVOID!! I can not stress enough to avoid this place! If I could give negative stars I would. We came to this place on Easter Sunday for a family meal (10 of us) and 3 of the group got food poisoning!! 3 out of the 4 people who had the lamb shanks came down with food poisoning! All of which are part of different households. When contacting to inform them of this, they were not interested in the slightest and tried palming it off that the illness was caught from somewhere else. "We probe all our food" "You got it from somewhere else" "This was not from us" I urge anyone else which has had similar experience and also got ill after eating here to leave an honest review. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!! Unless you wish to get food poisoning.

We had dinner and stayed overnight in the car park in our campervan. Food was great and amazing value for money. Pub was a little quiet being a Sunday. Unbeknownst to us the kitchen closes at 5pm on a Sunday but as they were open for a private party they happily served us too. Very quiet overnight, great night’s sleep. Thank you

Stopped for evening meal and a drink,good food and welcome. Very quite when we were there with only a few others in the bar. Very large carpark where you can overnight in your motorhome but full of vans etc early in morning.

Could not believe the price of Guinness in this pub £5.50. the spoons in Portishead is £3.36. when i ask the guy behind the bar why so much this is London prices,?? He could not answer he was more interested in dancing behind the bar, if you dare go in to this place don't bother. Locals told me it can't stay open at the prices it charges. Make your own mind up.

Love this place so much! Great food, great community events and live music. The owner and family are super friendly and really community-focused, with multiple groups and activities for minorities and different age groups to enjoy.

It was my first time going to the poacher. The food was amazing, and the service was brilliant. we couldn't fault them for anything. We'll definitely be going back for another meal, or 6 absolutely loved it here 😋😋😋

Had lunch this after noon at the Poacher,and could not fault the food,or the service.The criticism i would make!! Please consider offering cheesy chips with bacon,as a side or main course,also could you consider the option of white bait with salad or without...Would be visiting again..

Used the pub for a slightly out of hours business meeting. They set aside the conservatory and brought coffees etc, which was very helpful indeed. I have been there before after a concert in Portishead and then the atmosphere was nice and relaxed. I am sure we will go again.

Friendly staff and good food. Reasonable prices with also gluten-free menu. Yummy.

Great live music ladt night with the fab party band HAZE

I primarily went to this very nice, friendly pub to watch and hear the very entertaining RASKALS do their thing.Another excellent performance, judging by the people( with a lot more energy than me) strut their stuff from very early on, l believe everyone concurred with my assessment of the bands talent to entertain.On entering Portishead l was surprised but delighted to see a full array of festive lights,puts some other places to shame.The car park was almost packed,always a good indication of a popular and well run pub.After my enjoyable evening l can attest to that fact.Prices only hurt because l am Scrooge incarnate and anyone else would find them reasonable l suspect.One notable feature that l must mention is the affable and helpful sole security guy.Made the experience more settled and mellow.Hats off there on that aspect of the nights events.All in all l can see myself visit again.Top tip ..........have the Raskals back again.

The staff were welcoming and the service was excellent. Generous food portions and huge variety of drinks to sample. This was a lovely stop to meet friends

2nd time ordering off Deliveroo . Good fab , fresh and hot. Very reasonably priced. Good stay in date night option. Probably the best takeaway on Deliveroo ! Highly recommend fish burger and loaded chicken bbq fries.

Poor customer service. I tried ringing. Emailing. To book a birthday meal. Phone going dead. No reply to email via email nor telephone number that was left. Disappointed.

Came here to watch live music 🎶 the 789s, who were very good. Enjoyed a couple of drinks, friendly bar staff. Didn't eat on this occasion. Would visit again.

Average food , bit rowdy and loud people

Very friendly staff and warm atmosphere, enjoyed my dinner and breakfast the next day! So kind, they let us stay overnight in our little campervan, much room in the car park too! Darts, pool table and covered kids area in the big garden!

Just a lovely experience: friendly staff. Realistic about the room being a bit noisy at the weekend from the bar. We didn't find it too bad at all. Food great and all extremely good value.

Very busy for a Wednesday evening and staff were rushed of their feet, but extremely friendly and helpful. Only thing that let the place down was the awful smell in the female toilets, likely linked to the 3 that were out of order.

Had a great experience there staff were friendly when arriving. Great selection of ciders for myself and gins for my friend. Food was hot and presented well with great service by Casey and quick . Shockingly poor, Staff busy chatting amongst themselves. Very poor quality food , limp salad , dirty cutlery, cheap burger buns . Place looked dirty and smelled damp. Avoid.

Worst food we've had for a long time. The burgers we ordered were very poor quality, flat frozen type cheap burgers with 'frozen' type chips and took an absolute age to arrive. No lime in the lime and soda ordered!

Always nice to visit this pub. Clean, good atmosphere, wide selection of beers etc. Food very nice. I will return.

Excellent place with friendly staff

We stayed here overnight in our motorhome. The Poacher staff were really great. We had fish and chips for tea and a full English for breakfast. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. We had a few bevvies with the locals and a singalong to the entertainment. There is no charge to stay as long as you eat and drink in the pub. The car park is large and flat. Portishead is a lovely little town.

This pub is so beautiful, has a friendly atmosphere and the staff is so kind. I went there to use a promotional voucher and fell in love with the place. Worth to mention that they have events (quiz, live music) on certain days of the week. If you want a quiet evening, better go in other days.

The reason for my low review is due to the fact it was ment to be a place to rest after a long drive but sadly the mattress was so cheap i could feel every spring in it, the quilt was thinner than my laptop and as i was sleepig at the front of the building and all i could hear was road noise and every body walking past the building due to the windows being single glazed. The positives sides is the pub is modern and welcoming. The room wasnt a bad sizes and would easily do what its ment to, very quickly with minor changes. The water pressure is great and has a rapid boil kettle which is un seen in b&bs.

Ate here last night. Food was low grade served cold and presentation shocking The staff behind the bar were too busy socialising between themselves and drinking the stock to come over and asked if we were happy or needed anything else. This is definitely not a food pub it's a drinking pub, which could do with a very good clean and the old dirty frayed carpet replaced.

Didn't like Portishead- sorry Portishead- but this pub was great. It was really busy but we were able to get a seat. The menu was good hearty pub grub, came out quick and was generous in potion size. Staff were friendly and efficient.

Excellent pub and very nice helpful staff. My first time in after passing by many times. It's dog friendly too and has a large car park. Hope to call in again soon

The staff were friendly, the food was poor. (A long hair found in tuna mayo jacket potato and the tuna mayo didn't taste quite right and the potato was very dry ) did not eat it. Left it .The tables were sticky to touch. On the plus side dogs are allowed and the beer was good.

The worst Sunday lunch ever , served on a child’s plate and charged £14 We ordered beef served with burnt parsnip, a couple Of overcooked sugar snap peas, 2 roast Potatoes oh and carrots , tasteless we did complain but the answer was oh sorry , shouldn’t be serving food .

Went as a family and the dog. Great pub, friendly, welcoming and really enjoyed the food.

We just stopped in for coffee after lunch, the place had a nice atmosphere. The staff were friendly and restrooms were clean and tidy, I would pop in again. :)

Spent a fantastic weekend staying at the poacher pub while visiting family. The king room and 1980 room were spotlessly clean and the beds were super comfortable. The pub itself has a real family run vibe and there’s always a warm welcome.

Went there for the 1st time on a Saturday night good service from the bar staff meal was good but basic but the staff told me that they were having a new chef on Tuesday so the meals will be changed so they give more variety l would recommend this place

We have visited Portishead many times but this was our first time at The Poacher and we were very pleasantly surprised. The food was good and great value; we had the fish and chips, it was tasty and well presented. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back!

New management have turned this business around. Extremely friendly and helpful staff, food is good plentiful pub grub. A very pleasant experience.

What a fabulous place to stay and chill. ALL of the staff were so helpful and kind especially to our old dog. The food was superb and John the chef very friendly and happy to help. We will look forward to coming back again soon
