Usual pub food done well. Large portions and good service.

When arrived we asked for a table for two, table was found with no warning that this table will be needed for another custmers soon. We asked for drinks first ,the glass was dirty with finger prints, decided to drink from bottle.Main course was fine.When we were still having our drinks and wanted to order something else we were told that this table is booked for next customers(our previous visit ended up with the same issue,we asked for coffee and were told that we will have to leave the table soon,so we didn't order coffee).We weren't offered any other table or place to stay so we left. As a customer who spends money I would like to feel welcome. We will not come back.

Went for my birthday with all the family on my wifes recommendation and was happily surprised. An excellent choice of fresh wholesome meals and desserts for the little ones up to the disgruntled oldies like me😁 , Good-sized, satisfying portions served without any nonsense on the dishes . This place has a warm, casual atmosphere, and food and drinks were promptly served soon after our orders were taken .. I like that . I'm a retired chef and time kind of jade's people like me when it comes to eating out . Though this place the Ploughman ticked all my boxes, I highly recommend dining there , as it does do2 what it says , on the box .

Absolutely great service and good food but feel it's a bit over priced , menu does not cater at all for lunch light bites, sandwich, panini bp or snacks so rarely go even though we live very close by .. which is a shame 😔

Every family celebration this year we've booked The Ploughman, and every time we've felt welcomed, the staff are wonderful and the food is amazing. On two occasions we've brought cake as they were milestones, and they have been helpful, providing cutting board, plates etc. I can't thank the management and staff enough for their hospitality and look forward to all our celebrations next year too.

Stopped in by for an evening meal after a friend’s previous experience: Food is excellent, big portions and very reasonably priced. We were served by Mel very friend and welcoming, went through the menu and even advised us on a starter (King Prawn Pil Pil). Highly recommend stopping in by.

The 5 of us had great food and service once again. What seemed like two new female members of staff served us, and they were very, very pleasant, while finding their feet I think. Great to see The Ploughman so busy, as it always is - a good sign.

Had a large family get together and everything fantastic. Service spot on and friendly attentive staff. Food , as usual, lovely, with a large dietry selection to suit every taste. I had the combo salad but noticed I got ham instead of cooked gammon, (which it used to be), but was still lovely.

Haven’t been here for years and have to ask why not. Great menu, exceptional staff and lovely relaxed atmosphere. We were a table of eight so that’s a lot of work but everything came out together and just right. Generous portions too.

We stopped off for an early lunch between 2 appointments. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived but was filling up by the time we left at 1pm. The food was lovely and the portions generous. The staff were attentive and it was apparent that there's a good local following judging by the conversations between staff and customers. We will definitely go there again.

The roast beef was delicious. I will go back for more. The only improvement I'd make would be to not be asked how my meal was 3 times in the space of 5 mins by 3 different staff. This is purely because I was too busy eating the fine food. Not that I mind them checking in. Thumbs up guys 👍👍

We've been here a few times now and have enjoyed it every time. Lovely atmosphere, very warm and friendly staff, and delicious food.

I have an eating disorder so I am very specific about what I eat, I am also autistic so get very uncomfortable with food at times. I ordered the roast beef without skirlie and my order was not listened to by either the wait staff or the kitchen and came with skirlie. This ruined my my meal and my day and also put a dampner on my mother's birthday dinner. While the owner took this off the bill the burger i ordered as a replacement was inedible, the service from start to finish was subpar. All this could have been avoided if they had just done their job correctly which was not hard. I highly recommend staying clear of this venue as they clearly do not know how to run an effective business that caters to a customers needs

We were lucky enough to get a table on a Friday night for our tea. We regularly eat at The Ploughman as it’s local to us, I was all set for having my usual Scampi as it’s the best in town until the special caught our attention, pan fried skin on cod served on a bed of cabbage, coriander sautéd potatoes, topped with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce, it was absolutely amazing. The presentation was outstanding, it was cooked beautifully and portion size was good, all for £18, I only wish I’d taken a picture. Staff and service perfect as always, thank you for a great evening.

We are a guest in Scotland from the US and our visit has been nothing but wonderful on our whole trip with the lovely Scot people and their hospitality. Today we stopped at the Ploughman for lunch. The big bald guy at the desk yelled at us, do you have reservations? We said no we are sorry he said sit here! The lovely table he offered was in a window in the front with sun beating down on us. We listened as everyone else came in he never asked do you have a reservation he just sat them. They were all Scots. He knew we were hot but he never tried to do anything to help. The food was mediocre and we could not wait to leave there. We will enjoy the rest of our trip and hope this guy has a better day.

I have visited The Ploughman many, many times, never had any cause to complain. This week was different. Four ladies of a certain age visited for lunch. The food was delicious, the drinks nicely served. But , at times, we felt we were invisible. We had to ask for drinks, ask to place our order after waiting some considerable time. Our meals took an exceptionally long time to be served (I do realise the restaurant was busy) and then we had to wait again to catch someone's eye to order coffees. Food was lovely, as always, but 'busy day " service needs to be addressed.

First class service restaurant and bar staff are very efficient great menu excellent food buzzing atmosphere well done.

Food was really average but portion sizes terrible. Over £7 for 4 haggis Bon bons starter and just under £7 for 3 very poor bits of battered chicken goujons starter. The amount of chips that came with the burger was very poor and the bun had clearly been frozen then toasted as it was falling apart which is poor when paying £17 for a burger. Macaroni cheese was decent, good portion and sweet potato fries were really good. Sadly we waited far too long to get our starter and then even longer for our main. A table of 10 that ordered their meals when we were having our main course, both of their courses came out extremely fast so we can’t understand why we waited so long! Sadly we won’t be back.

We ordered 2 roast beef dinners, I asked what it came with and the lady gave a great description of Yorkshire puddings, choice of potatoes etc. She then came back and said they had run out of beef but had lamb, lovely we said lamb was fine. When it came 3 slices of lamb ok, tasteless look warm gravy only on the lamb, 3 small white roasties, couple of table spoons of dry skirlie, couple of small bits of broccoli and a table spoon of carrots. When I asked about the Yorkshire pudding, that was only available with the roast beef. My dad says it was fine but it really wasn’t. Drinks were in small tall glasses with ice, I asked for more drinks in 1/2 pint glasses to be told they were 1/2 pint glasses, no they weren’t. So the next size was a pint so I said ok but I didn’t really want a pint of Diet Coke I just wanted a decent drink. Whole experience was really stressful, came out unsatisfied and still hungry. The place was incredibly busy and other people’s food look great. Roast beef dinners, gravy and lovely big Yorkshire puddings. Sorry won’t be back, will spend my hard earned cash else where

4 of us had a delightful meal last night, All courses were hot and very tasty. A very good menu selection but please book because it is so good it is very busy. Will definitely return.

I really wanted to like this pub but no, my wasn’t the best. We went there hoping for a welcoming bar with decent drinks just to wind down after a day’s travel. What we got was a barman that couldn’t be bothered with even a hello or what can I get you. A bar area with little atmosphere and lots of televisions showing football, well, it’s labelled as a sports bar. The other side of the pub is given over to food only. We always try to support local wherever we are but this place clearly doesn’t want it.

Great food great service and met the man that dealt with all my wedding 12 years to the day . So got to thank him even tho it was in a different place he still remembered. Will definitely be back .

Popped in here on the off chance and was warmly greeted and were able to accommodate us (2) just before the evening rush . Great meals and pud’s. Washed down with a few drinks . Great little place and very good staff .

Could have been better, family meal ended up being split into 2 separate sittings, and the second sitting took ages, the food was nice but wasn't 5 star, just lacking something ...

I moved to a rented property and I like local pub, I pass the Cricket Club, Cults Hotel and the Bielside Inn to get to the Plough. This place is dream from the food to the service. The staff all the way from the young guys who serve the food to the 2 main bar persons (Alan & Eathen to the GM Andy and the owners Ali and Simon. All they do is make sure the customer has a good time. Thanks for making my time in Culter nice and I urge everyone looking for a nice atmosphere to drop in past. Be assured that Derek Linda & Jed will be back even when we move to Stonny

It's a really nice place, with great staff, only slightly let down by some of the food. My Dad had scampi and loved it. My Mum had the roast of the day and loved it equally. I had King Prawns Pil Pil to start, which were delicious. Then I had Fajitas, which were actually quite disappointing. The Fajitas really lacked flavour, and were more spicy than tasty. Although the level of "heat" was just fine. I would go back, but would not have the Fajitas again.

We’re made to feel very welcome. Such a varied menu to suit all our tastes. Portions were very generous. All chosen dishes were beautifully presented and vegetables cooked to perfection. Will be back again.

Nice family supper out after a long day. The homemade steak pie was good, the charbroiled grilled chicken burger with peppercorn sauce was good and the lamb roast special was good.

We had a great family meal at The Ploughman. We turned up without a reservation and the staff who were very friendly kindly managed to fit us in. The service was excellent. But the food was just outstanding! Highly recommend the steak pie and the lasagne. All our food was so fresh and delicious. Portions are very generous. Kid friendly and the atmosphere is very cozy. Can't wait to go back. ☺️

Great food, best to book in advance.

Had the misfortune of meeting owner AD in the sports bar, while in with our dogs over the weekend. The bar was treated like his own personal house party, with himself and company extremely drunk, unwelcoming and teasing our dogs by barking at them while they tried to sleep. AD consistently helped himself behind the bar, turning the tvs up to almost max volume the more drinks were poured. Parents who were visiting the area, ended up leaving after an hour with the dogs as it was unbearable to talk and the dogs were constantly being wound up by AD. By half 10 AD was slumped over the bar asleep. As a “dog friendly” pub it was awful, inexcusable behaviour from the owner. It made for a really uncomfortable and stressful experience and clearly annoyed other customers. It’s a real shame as the bar staff are really lovely and can’t do enough to help you.

A beautiful meal together friendly staff beautiful food.

This place really did surprise me. We stopped off here on our way back to our air b&b after a day out. We ate in the bar side as we had the hairy mutt with us. The atmosphere was pleasant from the off and the food was great value for money. I would definitely recommend this place and would happily return.

Myself, wife and brother and sister in law visited Wednesday night. Really, to sum this up, everything was excellent. Food, A1, service A1, the place itself, A1. Couldn’t fault anything so we will be coming back again for certain.

Always receive a warm welcome. Staff are very friendly. Food is of exceptional quality. Always a wide selection of menu items to satisfy any diner. Cannot praise the team at the Ploughman enough because my wife and I always come away with full stomachs and smiles on our faces. Well done.
