IX The Chester Hotel in Aberdeen City

Enjoyed an excellent Afternoon Tea in a very pleasant small dining room. I was pleased to see that it was a true afternoon tea, which included the savoury selection. The choice on offer was good, plentiful, and exceedingly tasty, accompanied by a glass of champagne. Tea and coffee. The staff were attentive but not overly so. Highly recommend a visit.

Our stay was amazing. We stayed in 'The House' and it was so spacious and had a lovely interior. The beds were absolutely massive and really comfortable. Would definitely recommend where we stayed for family as it was actually very reasonably well priced considering how much space you got!

Stayed here for one night. The staff were friendly. The room was clean and well-equipped. The shower had enough water. I had fish and chips for dinner. The portion and taste were great. The simple English buffet breakfast was also pretty good. It’s just that the location is closer to the city center. Far away, about 40 minutes walk.

Me and my boyfriend booked this for Valentine’s Day and the service is amazing the most friendly staff, facilities amazing too, would highly recommend this hotel, service is amazing and this is such a comfortable hotel.

Paying top £ for average food. Alcoholic drinks couldn’t be served without ordering your main meal, okay not too sure why when you are booked for dinner and you supplied credit card details.Drinks were fine no issues.Started with the squid, was okay but unfortunately I had high expectations thinking I was going to have a great meal when the food came it was just okay just expensive pub grub. Had steak which was over cooked and had no seasoning. Asked for mustard in a restaurant that has a lot of steak on the menu and they only had English mustard and charge £4 for garlic butter sauce that tasted of nothing apart from melted butter and it needed to pack a punch. No mustard so you spend £4 on a lump of melted butter. Cheese for desert, 3 small slices of cheese, 6 grapes, some crackers and a spoon of onion chutney, just under £10.Disappointed meal and won’t be back anytime soon.

Disfrutamos de nuestra primera visita hace unas semanas en estos tiempos difíciles. Nos sentimos muy seguros. Pero esta vez no tuvieron el mismo cuidado que en nuestra primera visita. Era igual que antes del virus. No volveré. ¿Qué sentido tenía comer afuera si la gente que te atiende se inclina hacia ti? Además, al tomar nuestro pedido, el servidor seguía tocándose la cara. No hice un escándalo como si estuviera celebrando mi cumpleaños y no quería molestar a la familia.

Estuvimos allí para cenar celebrando un cumpleaños familiar. No se divierte el bouche, entonces se habían quedado sin uno de los entrantes, y como resultado, uno de nosotros tuvo que esperar 1 hora y 35 minutos para el plato principal ya que no había otro entrante adecuado. Largas esperas para toda la comida. Demasiado caro para lo que tienes. El pescado tenía un gran trozo de chorizo duro en el medio, no agradable.

We arrived 15 mins early and went to the bar.........to wait and wait and wait, while 1 poor barman attempted to serve everyone!. We should have taken that as a sign of what lay ahead and walked. We were taken to our table and placed our orders. The waiting staff were friendly but it was mismanaged shambles to say the least. It seamed like young kids who were shown how to place a plate and little else , certainly not 5star service . Starters arrived and again care and attention were lacking. More like plunk that yours! After the starter plates were cleared we then had the cutlery drama. Steak knifes for fish mmmm ok. The mains came out , followed by a lengthy wait for accompaniments, then we waited so long and asked 2 different servers for the sauces for the steaks, we physically went down to see if they were ready, by this point steaks were cooling way down. We had completely wished we had chosen another place to dine. We waited an eternity to get our drinks , server came in and said can I get you any drinks......NO just the ones we ordered 10mins ago please. Absolutely will not be back and would say, stay away it’s sparkles like a diamond but has the quality of a cubic zirconia. Just not good.

We visited the IX restaurant twice in 2019, booking the second time because of the excellent experience the 1st visit but were very disappointed the second and it felt like a different restaurant altogether.The positives first time around - excellent welcome, seated in a lovely area at the rear of the restaurant with staff who were professional, attentive, knowledgeable and along with the excellent quality of the food it made for a really special evening.The second visit we were at a table across from the chefs station which was noisy and got quite hot as the evening went on. Numerous staff asked us for drinks orders although we had already ordered and the service seemed a bit haphazard which did not make for a relaxing evening. The waiter was not knowledgeable about the menu and was not very professional asking us to pass over an empty dinner plate as he could not reach(as he already had plates in his other arm). Quite easily done by coming back to the table to take the rest away. Perhaps we made poor choices but two of us thought the fish mains seemed lacking in flavour. The cappucino coffee was warm and disappointing. This is a personal thing but I did not appreciate in the restaurant being asked 'was everything ok guys?'. This has definitely put me off dining here again. I did contact the hotel to let them know of my disappointment and was offered complimentary drinks on my next visit.

Chester Hotel is a very private and homely hotel with personalised services. It will fit well into a business or family vacation, within a reasonable budget.

Perfect location for a date night in the city. Food was to die for and the staff were very attentive. Did not disappoint. 10/10

We have eaten here for special occasions since it opened. Unfortunately, tonight will be our last visit. The food was still as amazing as ever but we felt there have been too many cutbacks. So many changes but not for the good. We were expecting our “usual” top class experience..... No Amuse Bouche, no choice of breads, same wine glasses for red and white wine, extortionate rise in wine prices, coffee was cold and undrinkable . Manager trained a waitress at our table on how to use the card machine. Waiter didn’t know what Bénédictine was and said at table he had no idea what it was or if they had any...... I mentioned that they always have it, he looked irritated at me ..... It arrived with a horrible sticky glass which I had to clean myself and my hand was sticking to the glass. This may all seem very petty but t was just not what we were used to on our previous visits. if we’re paying for a 5 star service, we expect it. Always had it before but so poor tonight. Sadly, we won’t be back.

Our family group of 8 dined here for our anniversary meal..We were seated immediately and drinks orders quickly followed.We made our choices from a set meal menu.The food was delicious - all three courses. We all made different choices but everyone thoroughly enjoyed what they chose.Excellent food - excellent service. A great choice for a celebratory meal.

The Chester Hotel is one of the best places in Aberdeen. The restaurant has a nice vibe to it.The food is always exquisite. My personal favourite is the Aberdeenshire Highland Steak. The chefs always do a perfect job of cooking the steak to my requirements.The waiters & waitresses always do a excellent job in providing a high end service.Keep up the good work & I will be back soon.

Always received fantastic service. Food is brilliant, great quality and presentation. Great atmosphere, very comfortable and staff are on point. Highly recommend. The Scallops and Fillet are the best.

A kitchen team that are out of control. A waiting staff that are out of control. Timings and order accuracy completely ignored. The meal turned into a pick-n-mix experience where parts of dishes came some ten minutes before the other parts of the same dish! Completely amateur service. Do not be deceived by the high quality interior - the competence of the staff cannot match it. “All fur coat and no knickers”. Amuse bouche ok. Cold soup in the next course. Bearnaise sauce without any tarragon, thus resembling mayonnaise. Some meals missing sauces. Some meals missing sides. Lamb as dry as an arab’s sandal, portion size resembling a starter. Asparagus and peppercorn sauces turned up 10 minutes after the steaks. Fois grois however was surprisingly good. The wine was nice - thank god the chef didn’t make that. All in, a waste of £500, and a waste of everyone’s time. I wonder if this restaurant can do anything to get my confidence back? Best avoided for now.

Poor service. Waiting staff have poor/no experience. Terrible food. Not x2 AA rosette standard. Equivalent of pub food. Therefore, very expensive for poor quality food. The response from staff was ‘we can only try to improve’. No sincerity or any kind of refund. Terrible.

I went for a quick business dinner on own Staff very kindly served me the restaurant menu in the bar area so I had more space and privacy Food was superb. Cauliflower incredible

We throughout enjoyed our evening at the IX restaurant. The service was absolutely lovely and the food delicious. Thanks for this lovely dinner.

Food is nice enough but not amazing. Quite a limited vegetarian menu. Service was ok. Trying to pay was a faff, its not unusual to split the bill with 2 cards but this proved challenging. House prosecco was very nice.

I booked online or at least i thought i booked a very special Mother’s day meal in the 2 star Rosettes award winning restaurant.

My sister in law booked Chester restaurant for a family meal. It started off well, this gradually went down hill as the night went on to the point where twice we had to leave the table to ask for drinks and were most of the night with empty glasses. Considering the bar when we went through was empty and bar staff were all standing about makes me think the place is without proper management. The staff are too inexperienced and being continually called guys when you are supposed to be in an upscale restaurant is not in my opinion the correct way to speak to customers. But the worst and most unacceptable part of the evening was three of the four steaks ordered were not cooked correctly. Two were asked medium and were well done, how can a chef put that out knowing it’s over cooked, it’s quite disgraceful. Desserts were good but would not return here for a steak.

Stayed next door in hotel so visited twice for breakfast. Friendly welcome from staff. Variety of cereals, fresh fruit and juices. We enjoyed poached eggs and Scottish breakfasts all food was freshly made and very tasty. Didnt eat dinner in restaurant as a private function on. But we enjoyed food in the bar area. Again very friendly staff also enjoyed a couple of cocktails

Last night in Aberdeen before flying back to Iceland. IX is allways a must when I am home. Both my daughter 13 and gran love the good the service. Head Chef was off but his team produced amazing dishes. Loved it all so much had 2 desserts. Only down side is tables very close so we had to listen to and endless conversation from the loud table next to us.

Excellent service and friendly staff make a great meal even better, and we have no complaints about our waiting staff.

Still waiting for our sausages rolls and cheese scones to be presented to us and someone to ask if we would like more tea or coffee. No fruit scones only plain.

Nos alojamos en el Chester 3 noches entre semana. No podíamos entrar en el restaurante principal ya que había un jefe de celebridades cocinando en esas noches, pero la comida y los cócteles del bar lo compensaron.

A group of us had lunch recently, the food really was excellent. The cheese souffle was wonderful. We all agreed the food was great. Service on the other hand was not really as good as we would have expected for a top notch restaurant/ hotel.

Roast beef Sunday lunch. Unquestionably the best two thick slices of roast beef I have ever eaten in a restaurant! So tender I have no idea why we were given steak knives, maybe because no-one has invented steak spoons. Not just texture but flavour too, slightly caramelised on the outside and then pure medium rare flavour from there on in. Even the roast beef sceptics on the table loved it.

Two years ago we went for dinner with 4 other friends. We had a private area and the food, service and wine list were all impressive. However, my partner and decided to have lunch recently and we were slightly disappointed. It was not busy and after we sat down for a while no one came to serve us. i had to go and find a server. She did apologised. My starter was excellent but my partner' starter which was a salmon & prawn cocktail. There were no salmon at all so we had to send it back so she could have what she ordered. My main was reasonable but lack a bit of seasoning. My partner's fish & chips were most disappointing The batter was very oily and the fish was quite mushy. It was a far cry from our previous visit. However we are going to give it another go but this time we will go for dinner.

I phoned up to book a table for two in a couple of weeks time ... all the usual details were taken but right at the end I was told my credit card details were required to complete the booking!

Chester amazes me all the time - the quality has never dropped even for a single day. During my last trip this month I actually organized both business lunch followed by a business dinner the same day! I am so hooked on to the sumptuous spread they offer.

Very nicely presented but a bit disappointing. Is it not usual to ask customers what type of sandwiches they would prefer and if white or brown bread? Sausage rolls cool. China beautiful. Minor point but nevertheless a bit pricey for afternoon tea.

Special wedding anniversary meal mid-week. Service was friendly, attentive and relaxed - always nice when the server knows a bit about the food being served. Quality, presentation and (most importantly) the taste of every course was excellent. Good wine selection and seemless transfer of bill to the bar where we finished with a cocktail. Always pays to let a restaurant know if it's a special occasion and the 'happy anniversary' plate of treats rounded off a wonderful evening. Considering the quality, the bill was very palatable too. Flawless.

I took my wife here for a birthday meal on Saturday the 10th. The service was exceptional on arrival and everyone was polite and professional. My wife had the soup to start and I had the scallops both were delicious, we then had the chateaubriand between us and we have to say it was the best meal we have ever had.

Came here with 5 friends for a special meal and had a fantastic experience. We had a private dining room, were able to stream our own music and enjoyed some amazing food. The Chateaubriand was beautiful whilst the amuse-bouches were also excellent. Would heartily recommend for a special meal. Thank you!

We visited the Chester Hotel on Sunday for their afternoon tea. The large section of cakes, scones and sandwiches were delicious. Their tea and coffee selection was good, plentiful and all included in the price. The afternoon tea is slightly more expensive than anywhere else in Aberdeen but you do pay for the location and quality so i would say it was worth it. My review would have been 5 * if the waiters had been back to check on tea/coffee levels without us having to flag people down.

Recently ate here for the first time and it did not disappoint. Made the reservation online which was very easy to do and also received a phone call the evening before from someone at the hotel to confirm our reservation. Myself and husband have never...

I regularly visit this restaurant when in Aberdeen, and felt it appropriate to pass comment after the abject disappointment of my stay, and meal at Malmaison on this trip.

A lovely lunch with friends here in the restaurant at the Chester Hotel. The menu is good for lunch and very well priced. Staff are pleasant but don't seem particularly involved! There was very little communication and they are not readily available to order more drinks etc. A little disappointing but surely easily remedied.

I was invited to a luncheon party of Ladies to celebrate a birthday. We had a private room. Service was faultless. Everyone friendly but professional - beautifully dressed - tidy hair, etc. Attention to detail was faultless. Food was incredible! Everyone was raving about the presentation - never mind the taste! We often frequent this restaurant as we live near by - and I have yet to find fault. It's a wonderful place to eat and the decor is restful yet modern too. I cannot recommend highly enough.

I had tagged along to an invite for supper, there was a limited menu with only 3 options per each course. The steak was under cooked, had the smallest cut and portions of chips ever, then revived no sauce for the chips or steak for almost 40 quid! We left hungry and had spent over £160.

We had decided to go for a drink at the bar before entering into the main restaurant. Slight hick up with table being ready on arrival, however the staff were very attentive and really appeared to care to try and solve the issue, which they did. Cocktails at the bar are very good and a must before you go for a meal here.

I had my birthday meal and drinks here and it was fantastic. Food was delicious and the cocktails were amazing. We were very well looked after, can’t not wait to return.

Our family organised a surprise meal on Saturday at IX Restaurant to celebrate our Silver Wedding. There were 16 people dining in our party.

My girlfriend took me to the Chester for a birthday treat on a busy Saturday night and it was outstanding. The whole restaurant had a classy ambience and the service was incredibly friendly and attentive by Darroch in the restaurant and Kirsty through in the bar.

My husband and I had dinner here on Saturday night and as always it was fantastic. We both had scallops for starter which were cooked to perfection. I then had the monk fish for main which again was a treat. My husband had a fillet steak which was cook just as he asked. Unfortunately this time we didnt have room for pudding! We chose the New Zealand wine which was very nice. The decor is lovely and perfect for couples and groups also. The staff were very friendly and professional. Looking forward to our next visit already!

Estivemos aqui para a comemoração do aniversário do meu marido e foi um jantar excelente. Tocavam jazz e ouvimos “Garota de Ipanema” ao som do piano. Os pratos estavam excelentes. Tivemos apenas um inconveniente na cobrança da conta, aparecendo algumas bebidas por engano, mas que prontamente foi corrigido. O preço é elevado, mas adequado para situações especiais.

First time here with the partner. Loved the ambience, food was great. Almost changed our minds after seeing the reviews here but we went anyway and we totally enjoyed everything we ordered. Agree with everyone else about the outstanding service - everyone was quite attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Would absolutely visit again

I have previously visited the Chester for afternoon tea and thoroughly enjoyed it with both the service and the food being excellent. However, on this ocassion I feel it has went downhill quite a bit in both service and quality. When we arrived we were shown to our table which was in the lounge. The table was far too small for three people especially since I follow a gluten free diet and have a separate plate. We had to take stuff off the table and also put my plate stand on the floor. We were served our amuse bouche which was a chocolate mousse. This was quite heavy and very rich. The biggest disappointment was in the service which was quite poor. No explanation was given on what the cakes or sandwiches were. Nobody came and asked if everything was okay. The cakes I felt were part made on the premises (as per their website) but some were definitely bought in. I certainly won't be rushing back. I have emailed the hotel regarding my feedback but as yet they have not responded.

I love going to The Chester for food! It's great and totally worth the money. I wouldn't rave about the restaurant, I would more recommend that you go into the bar for dinner and a few drinks. I find the food / drink there is much more worth the money that you pay for it. Especially those Haggis Bon Bon's.

A very average lunch with an expensive wine list. Soufflé to start adequate . Burger not the best and accompanied by pretty soggy salad. Small hand cut chips . Best bit the one amazing wrapped cracker on a cheeseboard that left a lot to be desired . Positive ( apart from the cracker) were the young and pleasant attentive staff.

Spent the evening at a wedding reception. After getting fed up of fizzy juice ( only option coke, lemonade & irn bru) I asked if I could get a coffee. I was told this was not part of the package, ( what package?!) so went to another section of the hotel and paid £9.50 3 times for 2 coffees and a tea. Just after my last cup of tea they bought out tea and coffee. bizarre that.You would think in this day and age a company which sold me a magners for £5.50 a lemonade for £3.00 and a pint for £3.90 would at least support drivers that can not drink and charge the normal £1.95 ish price. Very disappointed that they put money first in such a way it ruins the whole enjoyment of the evening. No sign of sugar or a biscuit either!!!!! These prices certainly show they do not support drivers and not drinking when the prices are practically the same as buying alcohol.I will certainly never return.

We are just home from the yummiest Sunday brunch, £30 per person for the most amazing afternoon and food!! Great menu, something for everyone in my opinion! We both went for the buffet nibbles to start and then the roast beef, everything we had was absolutely beautiful! Buffet Starter was a varied selection of cold meats, cheese, salad, pate and warm freshly baked bread. I probably over did it with the warm bread but I had to have that 2nd piece!! Our main arrived and we knew we had made the right choice! The beef was pink and beautifully tender, melt in the mouth. Veg was really tasty, glazed carrots, crispy roasties and best part (apart from the beef) a big golden Yorky on the side! We ate the lot. I couldn't not try just a little of the warm apple crumble..lovely sweet end one of the nicest lunches we have had in a long time!!! I cannot wait to revisit...lovely way to spend our Sunday afternoon! Thanks Chester

The food at this restaurant is excellent, well cooked, presented and served. The only downside is with the open kitchen it gets very hot in the upper level of the restaurant.

My fiancé and I were disappointed to find out that MacLeod House had stopped a normal dinner service as it was our favourite restaurant in the area for a special occasion... that was before we had tried IX! The food, wine and service was undoubtedly 5 star. There was a good selection on the menu (so much so we now want to return to try something different). Lovely experience and we can't wait to go back.

On my last visit to the Chester, the food was divine, the service was excellent, and I had a perfect evening. a real 5 star experience. The time before, my 'medium well' steak was charred on the outside and red on the inside and my entire family had a distinctly average meal with average service - not befitting of the luxury image the hotel conveys. I have been about 4 times in total (for food) and have found it to be wildy inconsistent. I want to give it 5 stars, because it really is a gorgeous, comfortable place. However they need to be consistently as good as they were on my last visit, which was perfection! I like how you get an amuse bouche. There is also a lovely selection of wine. Oh and if you are having a cocktail, I recommend the bathtub gin!

Met my friends for lunch at the Chester. Thought we would eat in the bar, but as it was quiet - we decided to eat in the Restaurant. The menu is wonderful - such variety and all sounds lovely. It was a job to chose. Food was beautifully presented - hot and really delicious. The service was second to none. The staff couldn't have been more attentive. Tremendous. Couple all of the aforementioned with the comfortable surroundings and you have an unbeatable place to eat! Well Done to all.

I am blessed to live relatively nearby the Chester, and I go there often for a drink, for a bar meal, or to treat myself in the restaurant. I absolutely love it - amazing food, tremendous wine list, friendly but funky ambiance, and best of all the staff. They are so warm and welcoming, it really makes the whole experience unbeatable. You will seriously not regret a visit to the Chester - my father is the grumpiest man ever and they charmed him totally! He still remembers it.

A reason to come to Aberdeen city in itself. Michelin- quality dining in modern surroundings. Innovative and fresh, clean menus. Regarded as pricey but you only get what you pay for.

My wife and I are just home from IX The Chester Hotel and cannot say enough good things about our experience. From the moment we arrived to the bar for a pre dinner drink we were taken care of by the staff. After moving to the restaurant for our meal, the staff brought out the best canapés I have ever tasted! The food was astounding and I can easily say the best meal I have ever had! Our server (who's name unfortunately escapes me) was attentive throughout our meal and asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. Upon hearing it was our wedding anniversary, with our coffee at the end of our meal, we were presented with a stunning plate with truffles and a raspberry jelly that rounded off a perfect meal. We would recommend Chester to anyone willing to listen as they deserve every ounce of praise and then some. Thank you to all the team working during our visit as you helped make it such a memorable experience! (Would have taken more pictures of the food but it was too delicious looking to not dig right in!)

My partner took me here for a birthday treat. The whole experience was amazing from the food to the service to the drinks. However the reason I have not given full marks is because there was no acknowledgement of my birthday despite my partner making a note of it on his booking and we also heard the other waiting staff asking other diners if they were there for a special occasion. Considering the standard of the hotel and the cost of our meal it would have been nice if they had added a small touch for the reason we had visited that evening.

Absolutely flawless meal from start to finish. Seamless service and perfect food. Amuse Bouche to die for. Starter of langoustine ravioli and foie gras were superb. Monkfish and roe deer main equally as perfect. Finished our meal with a cheese board and a soufflé which was lighter than air. Paired with some fantastic wine the whole meal was incredible. Could not recommend enough. The best food in Aberdeen.

Food here is very good. Im told the hotel was fully renovated and the restaurant was amazing. Delicious entrees of fresh cured salmon and celeriac cream, and a modern take on seafood paella which was as tasty as it was, originally constructed. Our group shared a cheese board to finish. Overall this is one of the better places Ive eaten in Scotland.

A very special stay attending a wedding held in the hotel. Excellent professional service which you would expect but the extra touches to make you feel at home made the difference. Very comfortable and highly recommend.

Every time we come to the Chester it is a treat. The staff are very friendly and professional, the food is amazing and the cocktails are a treat! It has a relaxed atmosphere and after dinner you can wnjoy a few drinks in the bar. Great for a romantic night or for entertaining friends and family.

Booked Sunday brunch for my family after a strong recommendation for a work colleague. Used the online system for 2 adults and 2 children under 3 years old. With the note of 1 adult gluten free and no refined sugar for children. Received the confirmation email the day before for 2 paying adults. When we arrived there was no table in the restaurant available for a family of 4 so had to settle for booth in the bar even when they had the name and number for the booking. Cutlery was placed but only for the adults, had to request cutlery for my toddler. The buffet for the first course was sufficient but no wow. There was pies, cous cous and breads. Some hams and cheeses. Nothing was labelled with allergens but with know how we worked out what would be gluten free, for the standards expected, thought there would have been more information either spoken or written when detailed on the booking. The main course order was then taken for 2 adult and toddler roast beef. Then it arrived there was 3 adult roast beef so 1 returned and very hot plate with a smaller portion came back. Have to say this tasted and was cooked to a very good standard but was only just warm. Dessert time so had to ask for fruit for sugar free. I had a lemon and honey tart that was also to a high standard. I mentioned to my wife that we were not offered coffee around this time but didn't ask for. When the bill arrived was initially charged for a child's meal when they eat free under 5 and my children are both under 3. Many was surprised as there was no noise from them at all as quite accustomed to eating out. The meal was taken off without question and an apology as they don't normally do restaurant Sunday brunches in the bar.To be honest we still enjoyed the time, but didn't expect so many blatant mistakes for a hotel of this standard. The food made up for a lot but far from being perfect.Gave a gift voucher to family for a Christmas present so hope they have the experience expected from a top Aberdeen hotel, as unfortunately we didn't.

The XI at the Chester is part of a hotel conversion from a couple of the large stone-built houses common in the area. As you drive up to the building the hotel entrance is on the right, the restaurant entrance is the red door on the left. There is parking in front and behind the buildings.The main bar is in the left hand building with the restaurant behind. Apart from the usual drinks selection in the bar there is a very large selection of whiskies (I didn’t count but I’d guess well over 50) in a separate menu.I started with a ravioli of langoustine with a “cappuccino of shellfish” with a touch of champagne. I would have called it a raviolo, since the single pasta parcel filled the soup bowl, but I’ll take their word for it: I’m not claiming to be an expert on pasta. The main point is it looked great and tasted even better: delicate but nicely flavoured.For the main I went with roe deer loin and haunch which was served with chestnut, beetroot and a slice of pomme rosti. Once again this looked and tasted very, very nice.The restaurant is smart, modern and well lit. The wine list is interesting, the service was excellent and the food even better. If you enjoy the occasional expensive indulgent meal out, like I do, then I highly recommended. If you need a room then the Chester Hotel to which it is connected is well worth a look too.

Great dining at The Chester Hotel. Attended for our department Christmas Lunch and had a enjoyable experience. We were not rushed and the waiters/waitresses kept the wine flowing which was welcomed.

Booked this by default as the Mal next door didn't have any reservations. Really glad it didn't because this place really was great. I thoroughly enjoyed the food, as did the rest of my group. The soup starter and chateaubriand was exceptional. Only two criticisms I have, however, is the seating and service. Seating was a little cramped, but that may just have been our table tucked away in the corner. Service wasn't bad, just a little slow. We waited a little too long after being seated to order drinks, and had to wait a bit too long when paying the bill. This was perhaps just down to inexperienced staff, and the maitre d' was very good during the meal. I will definitely return.

This was our second occasion at The Chester, the food has been incredible on both visits! The Service, atmosphere and Wine/Cocktails were also great.I would highly recommend a visit!

Had a dinner tonight and thought it was exceptional. Very good quality meal, all members of my party thought it was second to none. We had a trainee waiter – who missed a few things – but in the bigger picture it is highly recommended.

We had a fantastic night at the Chester for our annual work Christmas night out. The food was lovely, and both the drinks and food service was fab! The venue is tastefully decorated, and has a great lay out to allow for additional items such as sweet stalls etc.

Table for four, booked without hassle on-line. The evening meal was excellent, with great service. All four chose steak for our main course, it was cooked to perfection. Thanks to all at the restaurant, kitchen and bar.

I've stayed in many hotels in Aberdeen and this one is right at the top of the list. Despite working 12 miles away and with plenty of hotels closer by, I decided to stay at The Chester due to an excellent deal on the Internet.My stay was Monday through to Thursday and I cannot fault any element of it. The place really does have a quality feel about it. Check in was unfussed and polite and my room, despite being the smallest in the property, was superb - comfy bed, quality furnishings and a nice bathroom with refreshing rain shower (over a bath). Each evening I dined in the bar. On all 3 occasions, the service was prompt and the food was excellent - always hot and flavoursome. The carrot and ginger soup was stunning, the roast cod unbelievably tasty....it didn't disappoint. A good choice of wines and decent beers on draught (including Estrella Damm and Schiehallion) meant there was no need to eat in the main restaurant where the menu is more fine-dining orientated. That said, the main restaurant was where breakfast is served and again it was enjoyable on each occasion. It is mainly buffet style but the cooked food is properly cooked and hot without being dried out, a rarity in many hotels. This was accompanied by a variety of fresh juices, cereals and piping hot tea, all in keeping with the rest of my stay.Parking is available at the front and rear of the building. If the weather is kind, you can walk into the city. If it isn't, you can do a lot worse than stay in the hotel and enjoy it's ambience. It's also worth stating there is a comfortable lounge behind reception if you want some peace and quiet.A very nice place indeed.

Our group of 15 attended the Christmas-party night on the 3rd of December. The evening was well organised, great food, good music with first class service . Only one negative, at the end of the evening our table of drinks were removed while the company were on the dance floor. Bags and other items were left at the table so it was obvious that we had not left the building, Annoying when had just been purchased.

We arrived to find that due to a system error, the hotel was overbooked. The staff were apologetic and very helpful, they found us another hotel two doors down - Malmaison - assisted with check in and allowed us to use their car park for the night.Overall I was disappointed that we could not stay where I booked, but am pleased with the staff response.
