Drove 30 minutes to get here on a Sunday to find it closed, phone lines not receiving calls, no signs or information on website or Facebook page. Google still advises its open. Wasted journey. Very disappointing that no effort made to inform customers. My son did a wee in the car park.

A pretty poor experience unfortunately. There has clearly been a lot of money spent on the decor, but some of this should have gone towards the uninspiring brown menu and lack of staff. An overpriced meal eaten under a perpetually paused flat screen TV. One plus was that the rump steak was well cooked, but any restaurant that can't produce a decent steak should be shut down.

Stopped by for a quick lunch on the way home from Berwick. I had the tuna melt with soup of the day. The tuna melt was lovely and the bread was really good quality, my only niggle was that there wasn't much cheese in it at all. The soup of the day was a rich, chunky tomato soup - just wish the portion size was a bigger!

From the arrival through the curtain with our dog it was an experience. The African theme with zebra pelts on the walls would probably have most vegans screaming for the hills, however there was a lovely warm welcome and a great menu on the table. The food was superb however the chef did seem to have his own take on the recipes as my mushroom with blue cheese and walnut salad had neither blue cheese or walnuts (plenty of almonds and hazelnuts) however tasted fabulous. Our only moan was that we ordered a glass of large house red and was charged £9 for the privilege...

Having read so many good reviews about this place, we decided it would be just the sort of place we like - quirky with great food and it didn’t disappoint. We were greeted warmly as we walked in and were seated at a table close to the log burner. Everybody was very helpful and offered great advice as to what I could have that would help me avoid cow’s milk- not something that always happens. There was a great choice and we made our selection. There was a little hiccup with our meal but the staff were dealing with a boy being sick over the table and some of the party wanting their meals immediately so they could leave. We received an apology and the food was so beautiful it really wasn’t a problem. If you like quirky decor and gorgeous, unusual food then this is definitely a place to visit.

Called in here recently whilst on holiday in Northumberland. Decor is really unusual but this restaurant has a nice feel to it. Staff were very friendly. Blade of Beef was absolutely delicious but was really the only thing on the menu which appealed to me. Lots of fancy sounding stuff but I'm a lover of good old fashioned plain food. We visited after a very difficult day and we are truly glad we did. The Plough on the Hill is decorated fabulously. A rather muted welcome turned out to be because (unknown to us) we arrived shortly before last orders. However, once we had been seated and ordered a drink (so nice to find Timothy Taylor's 'Landlord' so far north) we felt more welcome. The African influence is very strong and animal skins adorning the walls would not be to everyone's taste. At the end of the day though it's the food which is important and the cod masala was absolutely excellent, perfectly cooked.

We (me, my wife and two young children) visited The Plough on the Hill on the recommendation of a friend. When we arrived we were very pleasantly surprised by the lovely (and quirky) decor. It’s obvious that a lot of care and attention has gone into creating such an informal, authentic, comfortable and welcoming dining experience; just as inviting for a family as it is for a romantic meal for two. Pretty hard to pull that off I imagine. I loved the African and Asian influences - they were quite unexpected in a rural Northumberland restaurant!

this has to be one of the best restaurants I have ever had the pleasure of dining in, I am very well travelled and been to south Africa many times, ive eaten in Michelin star restaurant's around the world but this whole experience beats them all, from the moment you walk into this beautifully refurbished establishment you are blown away by the sheer class, no money has been spared from the 140 year old solid French oak tables and gin bar to the antiques collected from around the world buy Sarah and Robert the owners, I opted for the Inka grilled mother in law masala seekh kebab with charred baby gem-red pepper-green chilli & Mint Chimichurri to start and my wife had the crispy tempura vegetables with bean sprouts, spring onion and chilli salad, both dishes were incredible a sheer taste explosion, I then opted for the traditional authentic south African bunny chow curry WOW!!! melt in the mouth slow cooked Angus beef cooked in spices sourced in Cape town ( one of the best curries I have ever eaten, my wife opted for the butter chicken, well she couldn't even speak except just to say omg this is wonderful, the experience you get in this place is something money cant buy, the owners Robert & Sarah and the manager Nicola are just naturals and make you feel part of the family, the choices of worldly wines and gins are unbelievable, the crystal glasses beautiful, now to the views, this has to be one of the most relaxing beautiful views in Northumberland by far, the unbelievable decking with French oak and Italian marble tables are beautiful. if you dine anywhere this has to the place, a must try please believe me......

We were given a voucher for lunch and visited yesterday on a beautiful bright sunny day. The location is amazing with views across the countryside to the coast, would be wonderful to sit out on the terrace in the summer. Inside the log burner provided a cosy atmosphere without being stuffy. Decor is amazing and unique. Nicola welcomed us and was very friendly and attentive, explained the unique dishes on the menu with knowledge and enthusiasm. Food was wonderful and plenty of it at a very reasonable cost. I had the butter chicken which was beautifully spiced without being too hot, served with rice and naan bread - delicious. Hubby had blade of beef which looked amazing and he polished it off double quick. I will try it next time I think. Panacotta with rhubarb and ginger was devine as was the chocolate mousse. The landscape that surrounds the Plough on the Hill for dinner expanded my horizons. The sky above this area of England seems to expand like an ocean that radiates incredible colours that light up the road and fields. Coloured large sofa's, solid wood tables and fascinating artefacts from around the world make this place interesting - it offers so much more than your usual restaurant. Visited The Plough on the Hill for lunch today, we arrived as a group of 4 adults and 1 toddler. We also arrived over an hour earlier as plans had changed and the staff were very accommodating and we were able to be at our table early. The welcome was friendly and very attentive to my child who was given Christmas playing cards and a balloon to keep him occupied. Our waitress came to take our drinks and the service was outstanding. We all ordered the Crispy chicken/prawn dim sum which was beautiful and the sauce which accompanied it was second to none. Again we all ordered the beef blade which was absolutely hands down the best beef I have had, it fell apart and melted in your mouth. Robert the owner came over for a chat and spoke so easily to our group it felt like we had known him for years. Service again was very attentive and we were offered the dessert menu. 2 of the group had the Chocolate Box which was incredible and a rather large portion. After the bill was settled we headed to the children’s play area for a quick run around which is a nice extra touch. My son loved it. Our entire group left happy and full. The topic of choice for the car journey home was how beautiful the food was and what lovely hosts welcomed us. We will definitely be back.

We visited with family, including a number of children. They were very organised and made sure the children were fed first to then allow the adults to enjoy their meals. Small thing but very helpful. And the owners even helped entertain the kids while we enjoyed a great meal. Would highly recommend for their food and the warm reception.

I was looking forward to going to this pub on September 7, 2024, so I booked an accommodation nearby, but unfortunately it was closed.

Buzzing place. Good food. Service quick but so sour and unfriendly. They need to learn to smile and acknowledge when customers are trying to interact with them. Doesn't matter if you're busy, a smile goes a long way.

Friendly charming staff. Sunday dinner was excellent. The pork & beef perfectly cooked. The staff managed every drink request including a negroni. Warm cosy decor. Lovely outdoor area and gardens. Looks like a great wedding venue too A perfect romantic Sunday night away
