When you walk in you are acknowledged and welcomed. Ian is a star in keeping his beers in tip top condition whereas Jackie runs the kitchen with speed and efficiency. The food is real - not boil in the bag and the variation in specifically theme nights every week means you don’t get tired of the menus. This pub is a must if you are within 30 miles its well worth a visit. You won’t be disappointed.

A great country pub newly refurbished selling good real ale a nice change from a tv on every wall here there are none a good talking pub with a more mature clientele. The lighting is a bit in your face it would benefit from a dimmer switch and some candles to make it cosier.

Possibly the rudest person I have met, went in for a meal had to wait 15 minutes to be seated, once seated, no drinks were taken for another 5 minutes, food was average at best. The burger came out cold, when I asked for it to be reheated I was told NO and that it had just come out the oven and I was just being “fussy”. Tried to over charge me £15 for something I didn’t have. The gentleman who was serving me was so rude. Would not recommend to anyone ever!

We have often driven past this pub on the way back from Southwell and although my husband has asked me to stop off for a meal at lunch time I have never been tempted. What a fool I was. We called in for me a quick drink but the smell from the kitchen tempted me to order a meal and I am so glad I did... The chef clearly knows how to cook as the meal was delicious. The food was up there with fine dining. Excellent presentation and taste. Service from the young lady at the bar was friendly. The pub also do themed evenings which look good fun. I wish I lived nearer and that this was my local as I would be here quite a lot.... . Will most definitely be back.

We have heard good reviews about this restaurant. However, we went on the 01/08/2017 and we had to wait 1 1/2 hours for our food. We didn't get what we ordered. We did complain about this, however, the kitchen was too busy to do anything. My boyfriend ordered a Lemonade and the glass came half empty and the waiter said he had "spilt some" but as I said the glass was HALF empty. When the meal had finished we went to pay and tell them about how we thought of the meal and they hadn't even got the order right on the menu, they had forgotten to write all of the food order down which then took about another 10 minutes to sort out. Overall we will never be returning to this restaurant as this ruined what was going to be a good night

We wanted to go somewhere which was quiet, with a lovely outside area and good food. Something you cannot get in Southwell. We had never been to The Plough before for food and thought we would give it a go, we are so glad we did! The owners made us feel very welcome and even split an adult meal for our 2 girls to share. The food was very well priced and there was a great selection. The food came out very quickly and was beautifully presented. It tasted great and was exactly what we fancied. We will definitely be returning.

We’ve heard some good reports from the Plough since it re-opened so we decided to book a table for two on a Friday evening. Having taken the time to book and ensure we could get a table, we were told by the landlord that the locals go in on a Friday and the pub gets very busy but, if it was a bit quiet, he would see about reserving us a table at 7:15. He would not ring back and confirm this, rather we would have to turn up in the evening and take our chance. Times must be good for the Plough at the moment. Will they still be refusing our booking if and when they start to struggle? This question is, of course, rhetorical, they won’t get the chance to refuse our next reservation as we won’t be making one.

Wow what a great fined, we had seen this pub on the dog friendly website so we thought we would give it a try. We were met with such a warm welcome. There was a good choice from the menu, great prices and we were very impressed with the food, every thing cooked fresh and all very tasty. The landlord and landlady were so friendly and said they had only been there 8 weeks, so keep up the great work and we will defiantly be back next time we are in the area, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Its over 30 years since our last visit to the Plough but it wont be that long till we return. We went for a late lunch on Saturday 5th of September about 2.30 pm when we got there their was only one couple in there (not a good sign) but we sat down anyway my wife and I both had starters I had the prawns and my wife had the crispy mushrooms both good, for mains my wife had the chicken and I had the 8 oz rump steak done medium and is was brill, we had a side of onion rings along with 3 drinks the whole bill came to only £26. The staff were very friendly asking if everything was fine, this isn't fine dinning but good tasty home cooking.

My partner and i live in the village and have eaten at this pub for the past 3 years. There is so much choice i can never make my mind up as it is all lovely food. Fresh fish comes from homemade chips. Home made pie is fantastic, ham off the bone with chips and egg, curry to die for. Mel is the landlord and Linda his wife is the brilliant cook. The best sunday lunch you will ever have! Oh don't forget yummy puds. Dont expect posh, it is a typical country pub with very reasonable prices. Thank Mel and Linda x Michelle and Phil.

We are regulars here now, living locally in a nearby village. Came recently for the Curry night, fantastic food, better than our local Indian Restaurant, we had the Jalfreizi, the best curry I've had in a long time. Enjoyed the Scampi and chips tonight, always good food, staff are friendly and the villagers are good for recommending the beer, we will defiantly be back.

The Plough is not a gastro pub. I suspect it's changed little in recent years and it offers simple village pub fare. Don't expect wine or fancy Belgian beers! But if you're on the A1 and need somewhere for lunch it's good value. We enjoyed Sunday roasts with top class chips and good English draft beer.

I have never bothered writing reviews before but was compelled to tell everyone how lovely this little pub is. I have lived nearby for many years and stop here on a regular basis. I love the warm welcome we get, sometimes by the lovely dogs and sometimes by the staff! Yes it is a county pub and dogs are a big part of life around here. From speaking with regulars I see that the dogs are a big attraction to the pub for the kids and customers who want to bring their pets with them. Reading a previous review about dogs being under people's feet I have never known the pub dogs or customers dogs to do this when people are eating and on busy evenings I have seen customers dogs on leads relaxing in the corner. It is also often you will also see a horse or two in the car park or on the grass outside which is lovely that they allow this. The staff here are so friendly and try their best to please everyone, which they seem to do as the regulars love them. Keep up the good work to everyone at The Plough!

We visited with our 2 children and dogs, having never been to The Plough before we were unsure as to whether or not our dogs could join us for a family meal but to our delight the pub is very dog friendly! The staff were so helpful and welcoming and even provided treats for Milo and Jack (the pooches) and the kids loved it! The children's menu here is one of the best I have come across, so much choice and great value for money. Thank you to everyone at The Plough we have now found a friendly place we can bring all the family and feel at home, will definitely be back!

We had not been to this pub for a number of years, so we decided to meet up with some friends for a meal on a lunchtime. We were given a warm welcome by the staff but noticed a couple of dogs running round inside the pub. A number of tables looked as though they hadn't been cleaned from the previous night and there was little heating. The menu choices were good and after getting our drinks from the bar we settled down to exchange news with our friends. During this time the two dogs kept coming to our table and despite being told to go and sit in the bar they continued to have the run of the pub.Our meals were served and the food looked fine but now the food was present were recived more visits from the dogs. I like dogs but draw the line at them sitting under my feet whilst trying to eat. The food was ok, nothing special and a fair price. After reading the previous reviews I feel we must have gone there on a bad day but it no excuse for dirty tables and I shudder to think where the dogs roam as they appear to have freedom of the place. I am afraid we will not be be visiting this pub again which is a pity because it could be such a nice place to visit.

Looking for a place to eat on the way home from a short break in Norfolk and fancied a change from the usual places on the main route so diverted off the A616 into this charming little village.Although we only wanted a light snack, the lunchtime menu was very comprehensive and then there was the Specials Board as well ! The service was prompt, friendly and efficient. The food tasty and good value for money. Glad we have discovered this place and we will be calling in again.

I would just like to share my experience at the Plough Inn , Caunton. I had friends come from Leeds and we were at a loss of what to eat. It was suggested we had a snack at the local pub. We were not disappointed our friends visit many eating houses in Leeds so they are hard to impress. I cannot praise them enough for their warmth and welcoming on a chilly sunday afternoon. It is the best pub food in the area.

Our 3rd visit here and once again a lovely meal, reserved a table for 6, all had something different, food was nicely presented and very tasty. We prefer to eat at this pub rather than our local just down the road. Good choice on the menu, theme nights and excellent value for money. £55.00 for 6 people having drinks and a main course each, can highly recommend this pub.

Last time we went we didn't have a good meal and it put us off. Heard there were new people running the pub so thought we'd give it another go, not disappointed, friendly staff, ordered the chicken fillet burger and my partner had the steak, well cooked, well presented, good meal, very good choice on the menu with curry nights and other offers. Will defiantly be going back for another meal. Also a dog friendly pub and loved fussing the spaniel who wandered around saying hello. A very nice atmosphere in this pub, very clean. Good value, cost £21.00 for two main courses and a pint each. Well worth a visit, give it a try:-)

went to this pub about 5 year ago and can remember having a lovely meal so when we decided to have a ride out on saturday night for a meal i suggested this place, i wish i hadnt. we ordered our meal with 2 of us opting for gammon and eggs with chips and peas and 1 ordering sizzling chicken. 1 hour and 35 mins later after we complained about the wait they bought our meal out, chicken was not sizzling it was in a silver dish looking very dry and had been out for a while and gammon very over cooked and my eggs looked like they had been cooked in a dirty pan the underneath was disgusting and i left it round the edge of the plate. if we had not have paid before hand we would not have paid or eaten it. people on next table was also complaining about the wait for their meal.it was like eating in a tap room, so rowdy with some sort of either rugby, football team ect.

The plough serves superb pub grub, that is hard to beat for value and service. The outside decking is great in the summer, and the ever changing range of beers, means there is always something to enjoy on tap. Happened across this pub whilst in the area and so pleased that we did. Genuinely friendly welcome from the barman and, although we had missed the Sunday lunch by an hour or so, they were very obliging and let us order from the (quite comprehensive) menu. The food was plentiful, hot and very tasty and came to £16 for two main courses, one dessert, a beer and two soft drinks! Hope that they get the trade that they deserve because they really deserve to do well! From all accounts the new proprietors have only been there for around two months or so but they have some great ideas and the locals appeared to be very content too which is always a good sign. Although the village is miles from the main "drag", it is picture perfect.... complete with beautiful church, bubbling brook (we spotted a rainbow trout!) and lovely walks to be had in the vicinity too. We will definitely return again

We stopped here as our children were doing DofE and this pub was a check point. As it was lunch time we decided to have some lunch. It was a lovely hot sunny day so we made the most and sat outside. There was about six to eight of us. The food was freshly cooked , hot and tasted great. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. In fact it turned out to be the last stop for the kid`s the next day so we all decided to have brunch and coffees. Once again we were not disappointed and of course the kids after walking round the beautiful countryside were all ready for some proper food £ 3.00 for a full english with chips!!! Clean plates all round and happy parents as at these prices it was very affordable. Once again the staff were very friendly. As we don't live far away we shall be returning again! Thank you The Plough!!!

Birthday luncheon, we hadn't planned to come here, we met a butcher at Rutland show, he had just opened a bistro in Sherwood, unfortunately is was not open today. Being probably the hottest day of the year I did not want to travel too far, we have seen Launay's on a previous visit to Edwinstowe. We were the on dinners in the restaurant. I found the chairs a little too low and not quite supportive. Starters which we share were salmon wasabi pea puree and fennel citrus sperified balls, absolutely fantastic then chorizo cumberland and a wonderfully cooked egg. Mains, fried pulled pork and a sousvide steak, I had to try it because I sousvide at home, however I felt that it lacked taste and was a little dry. the tomato relish was pretty good, served in an old marmalade jar. dessert was to die for, basil cheesecake with micro lemon balm Definitely be back to ravage the a la carte menu

Four very nice meals. We had a rib eye steak, pie of the day, vegetarian wellington, & liver & bacon. Well presented & served with a smile. Waited about 25 minutes - good time for fresh tasty food. Followed by sticky toffee pudding & cheesecakes. Nothing left on plates! Clean throughout with ample close by parking. Thank you. Very reasonable prices. Will return.

Went for Sunday lunch with family. All the staff were brilliant and the atmosphere was good - nice to have a pianist playing while we ate. However the vegan version of the roast dinner wasn’t great. There was a nut roast listed on the website menu however when we got there it had been replaced by a different option. It was a spiced cauliflower patty which tasted good but didn’t fit on a roast dinner IMO. We were told that the mash wasn’t vegan so we would get extra roast potatoes instead, but we only got three small roasties each and when we queried this, we were told you usually only get two. The greens were inconsistent; I had a pile of kale while my cousin had green beans. The carrots and parsnips were rock hard (and cooked with honey so not truly vegan). The vegan dinner felt a bit measly compared to the others, with very little effort to substitute items or present a filling plate of food worth the price tag.
