After being regulars at this pub for 2+ years and being happy with the service and food on all occasions I will never be going there again. The pub was apparently closed for a wedding but with no signage anywhere to tell the average customer this. We were met at the front door with ‘what do you want’ which quickly escalated to me being called an aggressive cow, and my 60+ father a c*#t who they then threatened to take to the car park for a fight when told they had poor customer service. I have worked in the service industry for most of my career and can not believe the way we were spoken to today. If you have any issues with this pubs service don’t dare challenge it as they are aggressive and threatening. Avoid at all costs as people like that should not be allowed to be customer facing

Fantastic late lunch today with family, and always thankful that food here is served throughout the day as I like to eat mid-afternoon. We had Goats cheese & beetroot salad, and Chipotle Chicken Gyros. Great value for money, generous portion sizes and really fresh and tasty food. Somehow, and I don't even know how after the mega chicken gyros, I couldn't resist the warm chocolate brownie and the best cappucino I've had in a very long time in the UK! The bar was getting a little busy, however service remained prompt and all staff very welcoming. Comfy seating in a cosy setting, and fantastic beer garden too. Must drop in on a pooch walk soon!!

Pre booked for a table of 7 on a Friday evening to celebrate a birthday. Staff were pleasant - but our waitress could have been a bit more friendlier. After bringing out our food we just got left - no checking in, or asking if we wanted another course. Pizza wasn’t as good as it has been on previous visits - a bit dry. Disappointed that some of the dishes we asked for had run out. It was a busy Friday night & we’d have thought they would have made sure there was plenty of food in for customers. It was okay - nothing special…it won’t be a first choice for going out for a meal in a while sadly.

Met with family to enjoy a meal and a few drinks. Left disappointed and feeling cheated.A lot has changed in the last 12 months +, it seems the Plough have increased costs and reduced portion sizes.Orders were incorrect, started off with the drinks order, rose wine instead of red, no ice for the cokes and a 3/4 filled glass of lemon and lime.Food order needed to be clarified a few times and then when it came, utter disbelief at the portion sizes.Unsure on why it is now acceptable to offer such small portions at such an increased cost. The homemade burger and chips for example, yes the burger itself was nice, but the chips..... They needed longer in the fryer, and then to only have 8 small chips, it was laughable, the whole tables worth of chips probably only amounted to 3 potatoes worth. The homemade coleslaw.... Well it was missing from all the meals that stated it should have been served with.£15 for a burger in a brioche bun, 8 chips and a small salad/ few pieces of lettuce, it was totally unacceptable. Then there is the pricing of the desserts, at £7 a portion it seemed way overpriced, needless to say, where normally all 6 of us would have had one if it had been £4.50 / £5 a portion, we left without ordering. A missed trick there by the Plough, seems their greed of trying to maximise revenue has backfired as none of our party ordered, which could have been another £30 on the bill, plus another round of drinks. An expensive night at £130, I can't say I will be returning soon. Far better choices nearby, will probably explain why the car park and seating area at The Horse and Jockey was full when we passed on the way home. 2 stars at a push, that's only due to the nice pint and the burger itself

Food - horrendous, steak came out blue when asked for medium rare. Was told whilst getting my food that one of the sides were not in stock and if I wanted another... should have sorted this prior to bringing our food. Service was so poor that we only managed two round of drinks in the space of 4 hours. In fact it took staff 40 minutes before they even came and greeted us.. told us food was an hour wait and yet there were only 4 other tables in the whole place? I came here with my partner and her sister thinking ‘ooo lovely looking pub in nice location’ but yet so disappointing... with the right ownership this place could be made amazing. Owners / managers - improvement is needed.

Well, we nearly walked by as we were soaked to the skin but needn’t have worried. Very warm welcome from the staff, they even lit the fire for us! Gorgeous home made beef burger in a brioche bun with salad bacon cheese and coleslaw! Gorgeous chips too, just didn’t want to leave any .Super hot radiator in the ladies loo which was very welcome for a quick dry out after our drenching.Excellent waiting staff, and as each one passed us we were asked if everything was alright.Totally recommend the chocolate brownie for dessert too To top our lovely meal off, before we went back out into the pouring rain, a staff member even offered us a lift back to our campsite. Very much appreciated the gesture. All in all, a wondeful experience.

We’ve already give the new owners one try and we’re not impressed at all. Anyway after a tough 6 months for everyone we like everyone else realised that our local businesses need us locals more than ever so we decided to forget about last time and give the plough another try! Really wish we’d of given our trade to another local company! The menu is an absolute rip off I mean come on who can charge £18 for fish and chips?! £16 for a vegetarian dish, there’s a pub 30 seconds drive away where you can get a steak for that. My husband was a chef for 26 years & when he saw the prices he shook his head & said “they’re trying to recoup all their losses out of the poor customers”The food itself is to a very poor standard and sort of just thrown on the plate, we were thrown in a room with two other couples which I didn’t think was great when the rest of the pub was empty? When we finished we spoke to another table who said it was their first time and they wouldn’t be returning. None of us were asked if everything was okay with our food. All in all a really poor performance & I really don’t see this pub lasting much longer, I have to drive past twice a day with work and it’s always empty. My advice spend your hard earned money somewhere where you get good value for money. This is certainly not the place.

I do not like to leave negative reviews, I like to leave good ones and sometimes find reasons to be positive about places... but this was really really crap. Food: Rubber gammon full of fat, strange flat Yorkshire puddings that looked like placemats. The roast potatoes... when places roast new potatoes, for me it’s a sin. To round off it was cold.Staff: All hung around in bar area with feet on chairs where customers sit, playing on phones.Never again.

We visited this pub on a Saturday night for a meal with friends. Overall we had a good experience but we found the food to be average quality and quite overpriced. Starters were edible but nothing special. Our mains were good size portions the lasagne was tasty but came with no garnish of salad or peas just garlic bread . Chips were at extra cost if you wanted them to add to an already expensive meal (£16) we looked at the menu and all commented on the pricing eg £18 for fish and chips. Would recommend the burger as it looked lovely but again was expensive for what it was.I feel that if the food reflected the price I would be happy to pay this but more effort needs to go into presentation and quality. The pub itself felt covid safe but we noticed a large amount of flies in the bar and restaurant areas this has been mentioned on other reviews.Lovely location but think if we visit again it will only be for drinks

It started with slow service. My sweet and sour prawn starter took 50m to arrive during a quiet service. Some prawns were rubbery and overcooked but to be fair, not all. Pitta bread was dry and hard, salsa was similar to a supermarket jar with pineapple added. For £7 I’d expect better. We waited quite a while longer for our mains. Prob 30m. Homemade chicken burger with bacon was battered, deep fried and greasy, and the chicken tasted of the oil too. The bacon was also fried. The chips that came with it were dry and unappealing. The coleslaw was a really odd colour and arrived warm - I didn’t dare try that. I had most of the chicken (without the batter) and picked at the rest. My girlfriend’s Lamb pie was not available (after ordering), so had to re-order and chose the replacement Steak and stout pie. The mash was unseasoned, no butter, milk or anything other than just potato. The veg were a mixed bag with some too firm (more than al dente). The gravy wasn’t meaty and rich, but quite weak and watery. The pie was ok though. Having left most of my dinner, the waitress asked if everything was ok, and I relayed our feedback. She apologised, but nothing was done about it. As a side note, in the room two other tables came in. A couple first, and then a group of four who were sat directly next to the table of two. The tables were too close together and social distancing was not adhered to. The table of two then moved to another empty table on their own accord as they felt uncomfortable - as we would have done. Being the only (3) tables in a room of 7-9 tables, this was really unnecessary.Being polite, the whole experience was very disappointing and I’d not recommend The Plough at Brackenfield to anyone.

I was really looking forward to a nice dinner with my family. Sadly though our experience was very disappointing. The pub was riddled with flies which really spoiled things, and the prices are verging on the ridiculous for very average food. Booked a table at this restaurant, my husband ordered the butchers block grill, I had rib eye, my eldest son had fish & chips my youngest had a kids steak. All came out together, but asked for my chips 3 times, by the time they came I’d ate my steak and the chips were pale and undercooked. At £24 for a main not cheap, I asked to speak to the manager who presented himself as the owner, which doesn’t make any difference to me. He shrugged his shoulders and said I will knock you £3 off the bill. He didn’t seem bothered not the attitude I’d expect. If a chef cannot send the food together it shouldn’t be sent, or if the waitress had forgot just say that instead of coming across like you don’t give a damn !!Would I revisit def not ate at better places for less money, who actually care about the customers. If you would like to eat in an establishment where the service you receive is both sarcastic, disrespectful and aggressive tone from both the Manager and Chef . Then this is your place to go!! Go for Sunday dinner and half the things is missing off your plate is not an unrealistic thing to complain about .For the chef to claim to be a top chef with 2 rosettes I wouldn’t be bragging about that and a novice could cook much better food. To say the plough inn is under new management you would think they would want to keep customers- I can see this place going down hill very quickly if there attitudes stay the same. To have been many times in the past for someone who lives locally I will never return here again. Not only ourselves complaining that evening but others too. I would expect a reasonable outcome but to have £10 off Our total bill was unacceptable. If walking out was an option we would of because the attitude we received is not something I would expect from anybody. If I could give 0 stars I would because that’s all our visit was worth.

Can’t fault this place. Took advantage of ‘eat out to help out’ offer over 2 separate lunchtimes in August and was impressed with both the food and the level of service and hospitality shown by the young staff and the owner himself. We decided to try this place for the first time on a Tuesday evening. We rang in advance and enquired as to whether they were participating in the eat out to help out which they confirmed they was.We reviewed the menu online before visiting, based on this the mains were mainly priced at £15 with two of them at £19. We thought this would be the menu being used as there was no mention this was a sample menu. However when we arrived we given the paper based printed menu and the mains were quite a bit more. I chose the fillet of beef at £24. The food was lovely although a bit too salty, the meat cooked as requested, the chips were really nice and they accommodated my milk allergies. Despite the food being nice i think it was overpriced for a mid week meal and cant help but think they they have whacked the prices up just because of the eat out to help out offer.Upon paying they had problems with their card machine working which i do understand is something out of their control but it was a little frustrating that we had to wait to pay for the same amount of time as it took us to order and eat our food. We offered to pay cash but we was told that to take part in the eat out to help out scheme payment had to be taken by card. (Strange as we had previously paid in cash when dining elsewhere under the scheme.) We was not made aware of only being able to pay via card at the time of booking, i think this should have been done or clearly stated on their website or upon entry. In the end we left our details and paid over the phone the next day.Overall the food was nice but overpriced, I wouldn’t return.

We visited here as a party of 6 and I have to say its probably one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Food was either of poor quality or just inedible and so overpriced! Extra cleaning was obviously not in place as our table had the previous diners food still on it.. Which isn't great at the best of times let alone in current circumstances. The menu advertised on Facebook and website was not what was on offer the night we visited and the 'makeover' that is advertised on social media is non existent!

Poor experience which is a shame as we’d come before many times. We had fish cakes to start which were wonderful but were let down by the mains. £20 is incredibly expensive for battered cod and chips and the 3 mixed grills were poor. You couldn’t tell the meats apart and the sausages were barely cooked. We sent 2 back but it was clear these were just remicrowaved as the sausage on one plate returned cut in half as we’d done prior to sending it back to check it was cooked. Service was very slow and made it hard to order drinks. The menu didn’t reflect the menu on the website either, there we in re only 4 starters on the menu and 3 of them were pate variations or salad. There were around half the mains offered that we’d seen on the website which no one had told us about on booking. The fillet of beef and steak were delightful though.

Establishment was very cosy, modern yet with a rustic charm.Very welcoming staff. Young lady waitress was pleasant, but on ordering food, was playing with her hair. Had false nails on which isn't a good look for the food industry. However she was nice. Food was delicious, although the vegetarian meal which was ordered came with very soggy tortilla chips, they wee inedible, so I shared my partners chips. They were delicious homemade, had no problem with them. Desserts were ordered, and on arrival the tiramasui had chocolate beans missing which was stated on the menu. The waitress apologised and told us they ran out, I felt this should of been mentioned before the order. Would of liked some incentive from the staff to knock off some discount in compensating for the soggy tortilla chips and missing dessert elements. Would of given a higher rating, but it let itself with experience.

Booked for Valentines with my partner after sampling the new Sunday lunch menu at the beginning of February. For a fixed price of £79 for both of us we got a bottle of cava and canapés on arrival, three courses and a bottle of wine. Not only was it fantastic value, it was fantastically delicious and all the staff made a real effort to make it a special evening with a rose on the table and a live jazz singer. My partner has coeliac disease so gluten free options are a must. The staff looked at adaptations to make options suitable for him and seemed very knowledgeable about the risks of cross contamination. He was very pleased with his meal, especially the award winning ice cream!I had the Stilton parfait, 50 hour pork belly, and creme brûlée, all of which have now made their way onto the Plough Classics menu... Attempted to book a table for 1pm but were advised that 1-30 would be better. Arrived at 1-30, placed order & were told we would be shown to our table when they had taken starters out to 2 tables of 6 they had booked in. We sat and waited, having already placed orders for 2 Sunday Roast dinners. We were finally taken to a table at 3 pm. I was very surprised to see our meals were already on the table. The food was cold & most definitely not worth the £12-95 price tag. We did receive numerous apologies about the wait and constantly told how busy they had been, but no offer of a complimentary drink or slight discount. There only appeared to be the 2 tables of 6 in the restaurant when we sat down. We probably should have complained at the time but I was so hungry that I couldn't be bothered creating a fuss. December 2019. nobody about to greet us, ignored by waiting staff, couldn't find the booking, clearly understaffed (two males on duty as waiters) one was fine but under pressure (restaurant was overbooked) and one who needed training/different job! - abrupt with customers (not just us), banged plates on the table, looked very unhappy throughout, and clearly didn't want to be serving, even the children noticed the very long delays between each course. we had to ask about everything - how long the mains or desserts would be. Wait between courses was at least 45 minutes, despite choosing menus well in advance of the actual xmas meal. starters were fine. turkey meals were average. they was sliced from a joint, not from a roasted turkey, vegetables were cabbage and carrots , not much effort made, so it seemed a bit like a school meal, desserts were luke warm and small pots of ice cream had melted, bar staff were friendly the odd time they brought drinks to the table. sadly atmosphere was very disappointing because of poor customer service, wouldn't recommend a special occasion here.

This was our first visit and won’t be our last. The Sunday roast was superb. Lovely tender beef with homemade Yorkshire pudding. Creamy mash; and veg. Dessert was cornflake tart which is a rare treat in my eyes and not served often enough. Views are great. Staff are friendly the atmosphere is relaxed and suitable for families or couples. Good beers kept well and a friendly landlord to boot.

We came as a family of four for the first time for lunch on a Sunday. The setting and interior is fabulous. The wife is still raving about the lamb shank. My roast chicken was great. Loads of veg and a good selection. They catered well for my vegan daughter. The service was very friendly. We will definitely return.

Took the old one out for his birthday. Wanted somewhere that all the family could enjoy. Yes that includes my best mate Chester. Absolutely stunning meal. New menu too. The trio of pork was superb. Scampi for father, pie for mother, which is an absolute triumph. I did have to assist with the eating of that. And my beloved, not Chester, had beef bourgin. Can’t finish the spelling but I’m sure you know what I’m on about. All presented superbly and priced very well.Staff attentive and friendly. Give it a go you won’t be disappointed.

We first visited The Plough about five years ago and were most impressed. We visited for the second time in a month or so, last night. Service was excellent; smiling, helpful and efficient. Surroundings were welcoming. Food terrific with no undue waiting. It's on the way up again, deservedly.

Very good value, the puddings were very good too and the cheese board was a,axing especially the piccalilli! Yummy

First visit to this pub under current ownership. We had main course and a pudding. There was a little wait for the food but it wasn't s problem and we were served a great traditional Sunday roast and lots of veg then I had sticky toffee pudding. The staff were exceptional, friendly and helpful. Outside to the rear is a lovely garden which we were able to enjoy on the hot sunny day we visited. We all said we will go back.

My husband booked a table for Saturday evening as it was our wedding anniversary, we don't live locally but were staying with family which meant we had childcare. We had used TripAdivisor and the reviews read well and seemed perfect. We arrived and gave our booking name to the gentleman on the bar, his response was "sit were you like" which we found odd as we had booked, we ordered drinks and he passed us menus and we went to sit down, it appeared to be not very busy but the atmosphere we found very odd and there were so many flies it was uncomfortable. We chose what we wanted to eat and went back to the bar to place our order to then be told there was a 35-40 minutes wait for food, that was the bit we found disappointing, it should of been made clear from the start and also why were they not prioritising people who had booked, on appearance it looked quiet so we decided we would go elsewhere. It left us very disappointed and we just felt there was a lack of customer service. Cant comment on the food but there were flies and empty plates on tables so not positive for us and ruined what was meant to be a lovely time out.

Booked a table for 4 for a birthday meal. On arrival not too busy. A friendly waiter took our order of 2 chicken salads with chips instead of new potatoes. Beef stroganoff with chips instead of garlic bread and chicken sizzler with a side of chips. What came was one chicken salad with new potatoes instead of chips, a chicken breast with mash and broccoli and beef stroganoff with the garlic bread instead of chips! My son got the right order. To avoid waiting for the right orders we ate what was brought. After the meal we were given the bill without being asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu. The apologetic waiter went to get it. After waiting for 10 minutes we gave it up as a bad job. We weren't charged for the chips but doubt we'll go again.

Having visited about a month ago we decided to return after having a lovely meal the first time.We were not disappointed, The pie is awesome,it’s not stew with a lid!! It’s a proper pie!! My only problem with this is that it still came in a pot,put it on t plate duck!! This did not detract from the fact it was superb. My personal choice that’s all. Also we take Chester the dog with us where ever we go and and he was most welcome, which is good news for all canine owners.Give it a try peeps you won’t be disappointed. friendly staff, good service, fresh food and good beer. What more do you want??????

Came for Sunday lunch and was impressed by the standard of the roast and also by the spinach and ricotta tortellini and the sticky toffee pudding. Much less impressed by the loud disco music which really spoiled the atmosphere. The young staff were clearly enjoying it, the (slightly older) customers less so. Apart from that, the service was good and it's dog friendly too. Was sad that I missed the kebabs though which weren't on the menu until the evening.

My wife and I ate here last week after the place we had intended to go to was not serving food. That was a real bonus as The Plough was excellent. Possibly slightly more expensive that some pubs charge, the varied menu and quality of the food make it good value. My wife had a fabulous steak with all the trimmings for £11. We ate in the open bar area which was really nice, a typical pub setting, and the two waitresses on duty were friendly and knowledgeable. The service was quick and the food was beautifully presented. Would certainly recommend this place.

We visited on November 1st, 2024, and sadly, it was quite a disappointment. While the bar staff did their best, the kitchen service was very underwhelming. By 6:30 PM, they had already run out of the special main menu on the board! The food took a long time to arrive, and when it finally did, it was subpar. The steak & ale pie was more air than a hot air balloon and hardly had any meat. The crust was burnt and tasted like a heated-up frozen pie. The chips were clearly shop-bought oven chips. This was not the level of service we had experienced before. We left feeling quite disappointed. It seems the place is being sold, and I hope the new owners can bring back some quality!

Food was good for the price. Friendly staff. Beer was too expensive. That's the case for most pubs, but didn't expect a tenner for a beer & a shandy at a chain eatery. Maybe I'm just old & remember when beer wasn't a rip off.
