Needed food while on a journey, sat nav said there was a pub just off the main road so followed it. Very happy we did. The food was excellent, the staff were friendly and it was a good price. I don't normally eat Sunday lunch out as it never is as good as the one I cook at home, but if I lived closer, I would go as often as I could. We had one beef and one gammon Sunday lunch, homemade cheesecake drinks, and coffee. It was all really tasty. Couldn't fault anything.

Not very good if you're vegetarian. There was only one choice of main meal for vegetarians, which was bog standard, vegetable lasagne. The waitress cam to take our order and said the vegetable lasagne wasn't available and I wasn't offered an alternative. This is very poor service. Surely if trying to cater for all appetites they should offer more than one vegetarian option. Needless to say, we wont be going back.

We visited The Plough in Houghton Green for the first time last night & was a little apprehensive as we have always gone to The Winwick Quay which unfortunately has recently closed. Well it did not disappoint & ezceeded our expectations...the staff were lovely & friendly & very welcoming & even though it was really busy, we didn't wait long for our meals which were all beautifully presented & piping hot. The restaurant is well set out & very spacious & has a lovely atmosphere & the staff went above & beyond in making our visit very enjoyable & we will definitely be returning as it looks like we have found our new GO TO so definitely a HAPPY BUNNY!!

Peaceful and laid Back with a Nice vibe. Open for breakfast and lunch wed - sun which is ideal if stopping the night in a camper. Cheapest ale in local area too. Had an amazing Christmas dinner yesterday, everything was fantastic. Crispy roasties, perfect veg, tasty turkey and gravy with all the Xmas extras, generous portion served piping hot. Absolutely the nicest dinner I've had for ages and retained it's heat so I could enjoy it instead of just wolfing it down before it got cold . The room was nice and toasty and I imagine at night time it is very cosy and Christmassy. And Charmaine is just the nicest person and landlady, she is always so warm and welcoming. She makes that extra effort to make our visits special and we always appreciate her kindness. If you haven't been before I would recommend trying it, lots of home-made dishes on the menu and reasonable prices too. Good sized hot drinks too which is much needed on a cold day! Has always been a favourite of ours and will continue to be. Thank you Chef your Xmas dinner was delicious.

Had a beef Sunday lunch, overpriced & underwhelmed. I can’t remember when I’ve had 1 so bad. It was £14.95 for 3 under cooked roast potatoes, 1/2 a sprig of uncooked broccoli and stringy bought in beef. Frozen mini Yorkshire pudding, (not even an aunt Bessie’s 😂, an ice cream scoop of mash & a stiffing ball. Tasteless Garvey. Felt like I was at my nans in the 90s. Very disappointing especially since it gets good reviews! Didn’t take a picture because I couldn’t believe what they actual thought was ok to serve! Staff must be embarrassed bringing that crap out to customers! £3.50 for a cup of tea is an outrage really! We won’t be going back. Could have & should have gone Toby carvery for a tenner 😂😂

Just returned from a lovely afternoon meal as a family of 4. The service and food was absolutely amazing. The menu was Italian which is the reason we visited for the 1st time. Some of the worst food I’ve ever experienced. The claim of fresh food and the freezer for ice cream is nonsense. My child’s chicken nuggets were clearly from the freezer. The bolognaise ‘meat’ tasted very much from the freezer too. As for the ‘Italian’ pizzas, they were inedible. Burnt so badly it tasted vile. Tasted like it had been scorched on a dirty greasy oven top. When the waitress asked how was the meal and I replied ‘not good’, she didn’t ask how or what was the matter, but rather stated ‘oh that’s not good is it?’ As she walked away with the near full plates of bad food. To make matters worse it is expensively priced as well. I shall not be returning.

Booked a table 20 minutes before arrival with no issues. Was served a drink whilst perusing the menu. After a long wait after ordering, we were told our choices were no longer available. Then we were told that they had run out of Tomato sauce so all pizzas were off the menu. Pizza made up the bulk of the options!! We paid for the drinks and left to go elsewhere. We won't be going back. A good example of 'if you can't do something well, don't do it all'. They could have turned down the booking, or got more tomato sauce from either of the nearby foodstores.

Lovely new play area for the kids, but drinks over priced and had to wait 1 1/2 hours for our food. Ordered a roast…Frozen Yorkshire puddings, griddled chicken, new style potatoes, and veg. This wasn’t what I was expecting for £15, garlic bread was over powering and had to scrape most of the garlic off so we could eat it. Such a shame as the old menu last year was delicious home cooked meals.

Pre-booked for lunch on Friday 20/05/2022 at 12.30 for 4 Guests. Arrived at 12.20pm to a very empty building. However, we were greeted by a very pleasant and helpful staff member. She explained that we could sit almost anywhere as we were ,( at that time !) the only Customers. Duly seated and drinks orders taken, we were given the Menu. The Waitress/.Server explained that most of the menu wasn't actually available until after 3.00pm ! but went onto explain that the first 3 pages were for the lunchtime Orders. Each of us ordered a Starter plus a Mains. My own two selections were; Brushetta topped with a very tasty and plentiful tomato and onion salad. ( I could have eaten it twice over as it was so delicious) and a superb Pate with accompanying mixed Salad. My other 3 diners chose the Minestrone soup then a Tuna salad, Chicken Sandwich and Meatballs in a Tomato sauce. All 3 choices received a thumbs up 👍 All in all a very tasty meal. Large quantities, which we all appreciated. Do visit " The Plough Inn" . Service was great 👌 and the food taste and presentation was very good.

Not as it used to be... I haven't been here for a good 4/5 years but remember it being a cosy pub, serving home cooked food. We were passing by and fancied a pie or a Sunday dinner. Sadly, the menu on Google Maps is the old menu still and upon arrival we discovered it was an Italian menu, with Sunday dinners also an option. Neither of us fancied Italian so we both ordered beef, which was dry, the roast potatoes were like boiled potatoes, only one of us had pigs in blankets - which were over cooked and the Yorkshire puddings were definitely from frozen and also dry. The toilets have had a refurb since I last came but the floor was like an ice rink and the soap dispenser had hardly anything left. I was quite embarrassed I took my friend here as I'd said how good it used to be...

Birthday Meal for the wife who had a fillet steak I had a ribeye both of which were cooked to perfection, the chips were huge and very tasty. Size wise they were on par with the stones at stonehenge, nice to get proper sized chips. The wife also had a side salad which unlike most other places contained more than just lettuce. A bottle of Waddling Duck Sauvignon Blanc and Orchard Thieves cider for me which made for a great experience. We thought it couldn't get any better until the sweet came out, a cherry cheesecake but no ordinary cheesecake. The chef had made a large cherry out of the cheesecake mixture with a red glaze and a slither of chocolate for the stalk and placed on a biscuit base. Overall a very good experience, from initially walking in to walking out all the staff were very helpful, smiling and never in your face. We'll be back on Saturday.

Another cracking meal Having had a really enjoyable visit with my parents last year we returned on a Sunday evening. Once again we thoroughly enjoyed our meals and received excellent service. I had a burger again which was cooked nicely and had great flavours. The bun was a bit dry though. I had it with truffle parmesan fries and they were great. My Mum had mixed grill hanging kebab. All really good quality meats. She swapped fries for a portion of garlic broccoli. My Dad opted for the roast again and that was also fantastic. Clean plates all round. Previous visit: Absolutely banging prime cheeseburger! One of the best tasting beef patties I've ever had. Thick and juicy with superb flavour. You won't find a better one in Warrington. Really high quality meat. The bun was nice and the sauce was tasty too but didn't need quite so much of it. I like a messy burger but it was slipping out of my hands. The triple cooked chips were fluffy and crispy and just about the right size portion considering I had the rib starter on the side too! They were delicious as well, nicely seasoned and the right amount of sauce on them. I was disappointed that the pulled pork burger addition wasn't available but I still thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The service was great too, really pleasant staff. My Dad enjoyed the roast and my Mum really liked the teriyaki fish kebab. Closer to a fine dining place but not overpriced for the quality of the food and service.
