The website for this pub advertises it as one of two pubs on the site attached to a small brewery. The photos are of what I assume was the Plough pub. They look like a cosy stone walled pub. But it seems that it is The Taproom that is now open. That is a huge, brightly lit, echoey high ceilinged room with very little atmosphere. The brewery is now apparently closed. The menu is a much reduced version of the one on the website and is pretty basic. The food was okay pub fare and the service very friendly. This place would be less disappointing if it was represented on its website accurately. We thought we were going to a small cosy pub with a comprehensive menu of local food. Instead we got a limited menu in a large barn like room.

Very good service and very good food in decent quantity. It's just a pity that they don't open on Mondays and Tuesdays otherwise we would have visited again. A little bit out of the way which probably explains why they were not too busy but we would recommend giving it a try.

We rang ahead the week before to ensure that this lovely rural inn could cater for our party of 12. We were asked to preorder our food, which we gladly did as their menu was very appetising. We all ordered a 3 course meal for dinner, and each course came out in a timely manner with very generous portion sizes. The staff were wonderful and very friendly. The food was amazing. We all very much enjoyed our food.

Popped in for lunch while on holiday in the area. Walked in and we were greeted by two friendly bar staff. We ordered sausage and mash and burger and chips. The time between ordering and being served was just right. Both meals were really good. Sausages were of excellent quality as was the burger. Good sized meals. (Too big for me) If in area again would certainly return.

We drove miles to The Plough advertised on their web site as the Woods Brewery pub. When we got there we found they do not sell Woods Beers apart from bottles We were mislead and disappointed. The pub featured how they make Woods Beers and advertise all the the well known Woods beers, They just don't sell them any more on draught, Suggest they rewrite their web site!

We go passed the sign to this pub quite regularly but have never turned off the main road to pay a visit. Eventually we have and were very pleased with the service and quality of the food. It was really home cooked and served promptly and hot. Sasha looked after us very well. My only complaint would be the price of the wine!!

Booked a table for a large group for a birthday 3 weeks prior to the date, then called on the day to advise them there were 2 less people. The first person I spoke to couldn’t find the booking but said it was fine . I then received another call querying the name it was booked in & that there wasn’t a table available. Then received a third phone call saying it was available! Complete joke, if a pub can’t even take a booking for a large group properly then I wouldn’t risk putting your celebrations in their hands ! Avoid!!

We popped in late Sunday afternoon, having travelled to the area on holiday. It’s always a risk trying to get a roast at this time of the day: meat has normally been sat around all day and veg are likely to be mush. Completely the opposite here! Three of us had the pork roast which was plentiful with fresh veg and even a little crackling. Couldn’t have been better. One had an ale pie, which was also good. Great to be able to try their own range of beers too. All good.A couple of lovely glasses of red helped wash it all down.Friendly, helpful staff. Clean and tidy restaurant. My wife and I were looking for a good Sunday Lunch and decided to try the Plough - and were rewarded with one of the best we've ever had. There's a good selection of starters mains and sweets all of which looked so good that it was hard to make a choice. I went for a fine crayfish and smoked salmon salad while my wife went for deep fried Brie wedges. We then opted for a roast - beef for my wife and Gloucester Old Spot pork for me - and each came with a fine vegetable selection and were really good. We both finished off with the home made white chocolate cheesecake. Service from a team of young waitresses was very friendly and efficient. All in all a great lunch and there's the added bonus that they serve from 12noon right through to 6pm. Highly recommended.

Lord help anyone who happens to stumble upon this lifeless dump (surely no locals would drink there?!). I would have experienced more atmosphere in a funeral parlour. It's ONLY redeeming feature was a log burner which wasn't even lit on a cold January evening!!! Completely bereft of any character, soul or warmth (like the barmaid!). You might as well visit a Wethererspoons, at least the drinks are cheaper! Only gave it one star as zero wasnt an option, so they can think themselves lucky! Can't wait to get back to the Victoria in Durham - a REAL pub!

We were holidaying in the area and looking for a traditional country pub to enjoy a drink in on a dank January night. We’d passed The Plough a couple of times and saw it was attached to a brewery, given it was in a rural spot as well we thought it looked perfect. As soon as we entered the building we regretted our decision . The pub comprised of a large souless empty room with high ceiling that felt like we were sitting in a warehouse. The welcome was almost as cold as the room and the £10 we were charged for our two standard drinks went no way towards warming us up either. The room was lifeless and decorated with brewery information boards , a cold lifeless log burner , which might have created a little atmosphere stood empty in the corner. If we had visited an empty Toby Carvery we would have experienced more heart than this place. If you have no soul or imagination this is the place for you , if you’re looking for a good local pub with soul and atmosphere give this one a miss. What a shame someone has ripped the life , soul and character out of what was probably once a great traditional local.

I visited The plough today for lunch because the pub I was going to attend was closed. I travel to the area quite often on business and usually stop for lunch. I happened to see the sign on the A49 to The Plough so I followed it. After turning right at the bottom of the lane instead of left, which I should have done but there was no signpost showing which way the pub was. Anyway, I found The Plough. It had a huge car park that already had a few cars. A good sign as it was only midday on a Monday. The restaurant is a bit like a barn but comfortable enough and the lady who served me was very cheerful and most helpful. I decided to have a pint of Shropshire Lad by the Wood brewery. It was a beautiful pint, which is not surprising given the brewery is right next door. I ordered a Bacon, Brie and Cranberry baguette with chips. It was delicious although the bacon was a bit fatty for my taste but that is a personal foible of mine. I hate fat! No problem - it was easily removed and the bacon itself was tasty. The baguette was fresh with a lovely crust and the chips were crispy and the whole lunch was hot. A very friendly pub.

Visited as part of a large group and the food was fabulous. Couldn’t fault the meal, particularly the chicken which came with a lovely range of vegetables (particularly the mash). Staff are very friendly and efficient. Will definitely visit again.

Monday lunch time, one of the few inns open on Monday, we had an excellent meal, well cooked and very well presented. The real ale was excellent, brewed just next door! A good value for money Pub, and George is slowly turning this into a "Gastropub", good luck, I think he is nearly there!

We went here twice on a recent holiday. On the first occasion the service was better than the food and the second visit it was the opposite.

Visited with family during the week for dinner. Food was excellent. I had the special of the day (Pene Vodka). The chef recommended it and I was not disappointed. The service was also very good. Definitely would recommend. It is worth a visit if you are in the area!

We had our works Christmas do here for 30+ people and we stayed the night. Front of house staff were lovely and welcoming, but that is all I can really say nice about our stay. Our room was like something out of the 70/80s very twee and old-fashioned. Quilt cover had a rip in it. Bath looked old, faint smell of cigarette smoke. No soap, shower gel etc in the bathroom - to help save the planet apparently - you could request some at reception. We were woken about 6am by what I assume was some kind of water cistern behind one of the bedroom walls that sounded like a plane going over head. The party. Arrival time was stated as 7pm and most (about 180) turned up about then. We were all crowded into the bar which wasn't big enough and soon warmed up to a very uncomfortable temperature. They eventually let us in at 8pm. Drinks were astronomically expensive - £7.50 for a pint £8.20 for a Baileys or a large glass of wine (£25+ by the bottle) and £7.20 for a pint of coke!!!. The main course wasn't served until after 9pm and my beef was dry and tasteless, though others who had the turkey said it wasn't bad. And my Xmas pudding was dry too. All in all not somewhere I would ever go again and certainly don't know where it gets it 4 star rating from. I did voice most of my complaints to reception before leaving.

Have been coming here for over a year and their Panang curry is the best! Portion sizes are generous for price - we always have enough leftover for a good size meal the day following. Staff is friendly too

The service was friendly and the food absolutely first-rate. Can recommend the Ploughman’s which is loaded with cheese, really top notch ham, and lovely crusty bread. Would have loved to stay for cake but we were all too full.
