Went to The Plough on Sunday 10th December 23 with family for lunch and was very disappointed in the service, the food and the general attitude of some of the staff. One of the food orders specifically asked for gravy not to be poured onto the dinner. When the dinner arrived it had gravy all over. The dinner was returned and I saw the waitress and the lady behind the bar give each other a look (as though we were making a fuss over nothing). The dinner then arrived without one of the vegetables, but we left this. We then ordered pudding from the menu which specifically said Chocolate Brownie, Ice Cream, Chocolate Sauce and Squirty Cream. We ordered two of these and I asked for no Squirty cream. The brownie arrived with chocolate sauce and that's it !! When I asked about this the waitress apologised but I had to show her the menu. Surely your kitchen staff are familiar with the menu? She then went away and brought two scoops of ice cream in a bowl. The whole atmosphere in the pub was very uncomfortable and. what should have been a pleasant lunch, turned out to be quite unpleasant. Will definitely not be going there again

Booked a table back in January for us and 2 friends for dinner, even calling to confirm our reservation earlier in the day. The young lad behind the bar was very pleasant and professional. We ordered with him, again he was very knowledgeable about the menu, asking if we had any dietary requirements/allergies etc. The starters were very slow to arrive, however before they did we had the above-mentioned rude manageress inform us that last orders would be at 8:15pm! On a Friday night... Between the starters and mains arriving the same misery greeted us by this time trying to clear clearly not finished drinks from the table and trying to close the curtains behind us. Clearly trying to make us feel uncomfortable as to usher us out of the door. The main courses took another age to arrive but my burger and chips, whilst basic, was actually pretty tasty. The mussels my partner and friend ordered however were vastly overcooked, to the point of them being rubbery, and the sides arrived quite a long time after the mains. The poor lad had obviously been sent home by this point as we were now left with the head of operation 'get off work early'... Needless to say, we weren't offered any dessert menus. Her plan to sack off serving patrons was however quashed with the arrival of a group of locals. Much to her annoyance we ordered another round of drinks before leaving! Won't be returning...

I visited this quaint pub/restaurant for a meet up with friends for a catch up. As someone who has a number of uncommon food allergies, I struggle to eat out due to not feeling safe. I contacted the pub to ask if they have an allergy menu, and was asked to let them know what I'm allergic to, and they would tell me what was suitable. On ordering my meal, I felt reassured that my allergies were taking into account as I saw my server adding it to to till ordering system. When my food arrived, I was very impressed and it was very tasty to. I can honestly say I will be returning for another visit soon.

We arrived without a booking but they still managed to seat us- even though they were very busy! There was a choice of 4 roasts to choose from, I had the chicken, it was presented beautifully. It was absolutely delicious, everything was perfect. I am not a lover of gravy but I’ve never tasted gravy so amazing, I finished everything- which I never do! The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The pub had an amazing atmosphere, warm and friendly- highly recommend but on a Sunday best to book! Will be back very soon.

Although they were busy, staff at the plough found time and space for us to eat. The Sunday Roast was amazing. Staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. With a choice of 4 meats and a vegetarian option there was plenty to choose from. The roast was great followed by homemade treacle sponge and custard and loads of custard. Great atmosphere and again great staff. Well done

Called in without a booking after dropping a family member off at Luton airport. Arrived at 5.30 p.m. and the pub was buzzing. Chap behind the bar found us a table and served our drinks (excellent ales on draught ). Varied and interesting menu that should please most palettes. We chose 2 Plough burgers and one gammon steak ,all came with really tasty sides and eere delicious. Staff helpful and friendly. The pub had a block booking for about 30 in the rear dining room ,so we felt very fortunate to get a table .Chose this pub based on trip advisor reviews ,can now see why they are so good.

A typical British pub serving food in a relatively remote spot in the countryside but well worth the trip. Making a family occasion special in the relaxed restaurant area while we all tasted different choices was satisfactory to all. The ladies serving were so pleasant and welcoming too. If doing again we would probably have stayed in the bar area for a more warm atmosphere but that was our choice. We enjoyed thoroughly and when visiting again , will be back.

We have been 3 times now (in one month) and each time has been very different. The first time we booked but on arrival there was some serious confusion amongst staff and no table available for us in the restaurant so we were asked to sit in a pod outside. This wasn’t really what we had in mind so we left. We were offered an apology and discount for a future visit which we gladly accepted. 7 of us for Sunday lunch. Service was impeccable and the owner even made a point of coming over to apologise to us for our previous experience. Food was lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed everything. All staff had clearly been told about our previous bad experience as they mentioned it a few times. We decided to return again the following week and, well, a complete disaster again really. We were seated one hour and 15 before the first of us got our food (we had all ordered the exact same dinner, a roast). We were still waiting half an hour later for the rest of the meals. We ordered cauli cheese as a side which ended up being eaten almost as a starter as there was no meal to accompany it. The roast pork and cracking dinner had no crackling, and when asked, it was brought out stone cold. The food was good but not amazing like the week before. I had a chat with the manager and mentioned how disappointed we were, she said they had a new member of staff on which was the reason for the delay. I explained we had hoped for dessert but didn’t want to have to wait another 90mins to which she just smiled and said ‘yeah…. I’m sorry about that’ Family time for us is precious and being 7 of us is also not cheap… we want to know we can go somewhere and it be consistently good. This seems to be very hit and Miss and unfortunately means we won’t be returning. I am more than happy to leave good reviews when I feel somewhere warrants one, and did share this place online and recommended to friends after our second visit, but 1 good experience out of 3 in the same month isn’t great. A real shame :(

Ok, I'll start with the fact that this is a beautifully restored thatched pub, with more than a little history. It's cute, quaint and a quintessentially English pub. I can imagine the fire roaring in winter and a pint of good winter spice ale going down a treat. The staff are friendly, polite, and just a little laid back. The menu(s) are simple pub fare that shouldn't be an issue to deliver on, even during a fairly busy lunch run. Sadly, there are a few negatives: today the bar area smelt of urine every time the breeze came through the open door to the garden - straight past the toilets. The smell was very off putting. We eventually moved into the garden - thankfully the last of the rain had gone and the seats were already drying out, so not a problem. The food, when it eventually arrived, was terrible. we ordered a burger with bacon; onion rings; the cheese and chutney sandwich; dirty fries and the 'hunter chicken' by another name - Honey BBQ chicken. The burger was passable - the burger itself was okay, but the cheese used was a slice of smoked cheese, and way too much burger sauce. As a result the flavours were thrown off. The chips, in their native skins, were good and crispy, and quite hot - just missing a touch of seasoning. The salad, served on the side, whilst often overlooked, is something that I often enjoy - a fresh countenance to the meaty fattyness of the burger and fries. Sadly this salad looked like it should have been added to the compost heap about a week ago. Every piece of the mixed leaf salad was either very brown, or very wilted (or both). The Cheese and Chutney sandwich had real cheddar, cut so thick it was hard to eat, and the chutney was a bare scraping on the bread, which has been artistically toasted to add little brown lines. As a result the sandwich was cloying and dry to eat. The side salad, again, had seen better days. The dirty fries - described as fries in cheese and bacon with sour cream and chive dressing..... resulted in chips in a bow with bits of bacon, and two slices of the same cheese thrown on top and melted, then a dollop of Tesco Basics sour cream and chive dip thrown on top. I was hoping for chips with grated mature cheddar and Monterrey Jack, melted and mixed through (a la nachos style), with bits of salty crisp bacon to add highlights, and a drizzle of sour cream and chive dressing added for contrast. Instead, all I got was disappointment. Finally, the Hunter-style chicken and bacon with Honey BBQ sauce and cheese. The chicken was anemic white - looking as though it had never seen the inside of a hot pan or oven - the BBQ honey sauce had the consistency and taste of tomato ketchup, and the same slices of smoked cheese on top, rather than a good, tangy, contrasting cheese that would be the highlight of the dish. Needless to say we ate what we could, paid up and left much faster than it took to get the food to us.

We recently had lunch in one of the pods in the beer garden. It was quite warm in there and we moved around a few times to avoid the sun trap (no fault of the staff of course). The food was brilliant - recommend the scallops for starters and the burger or haddock for main. Thank you for a great visit and we would definitely return.

As lockdown was lifted we looked around for a pub garden dinner and found The Plough Inn.Darren and Callum looked after us all as we settled in to one of the pub garden pods and watched the sunset over the hills.A couple of us had the hand made burgers. Very tasty (far removed from the bought in hockey pucks found elsewhere) and served with proper fat chips. The fish and chips were well received by our friends as was the ribeye steak which was well seasoned and cooked exactly as ordered by friendly staff. All solid pub favourites. I enjoyed the hoppy ale recommended by Darren. Its always a good sign when you can see in to the kitchen like the one at the Plough. It’s not often that it’s right by the front door where you can see the chefs preparing everything. The interior looks very welcoming and it’ll be great when we can all meet indoors again.

Casting our net around for a midweek lunch venue we'd never visited before we chanced across the Plough, which sits on a quiet lane just off the newish A5 link road to the M1 near Houghton Regis. There's a stack of new homes taking shape not far away so there's a whole new clutch of customers in the offing and the future looks good for a picture postcard village pub which didn't put a foot wrong when we popped by.The premises are very pleasing, clean and smart but with lots of old-fashioned charm, post-lockdown procedures are carefully observed and the staff were uniformly bright and efficient. It's a Fuller's house so the beer comes recommended, I enjoyed a light lunchtime pint from their Gales sub-brand rather than opt for heavier Pride. There was a midweek lunch deal offering two courses for £12.50 - cue two burgers (one meat, one veggy) and a top class haddock and chips, followed by chocolate brownies and a well-filled fruit crumble. Of course there are cheaper pub deals around, but you get what you pay for.It was a quiet afternoon when we visited, and I dare say it gets a fair bit busier for Sunday lunch. Fingers crossed the new tide of customers don't swamp the place, at the moment it presses every button and is well worth a repeat visit.

Happened to find this pub on TripAdvisor as needed a pub south of leighton buzzard. Really pleased we did. The Sunday Roast was superb, the pork belly cooked brilliantly, Yorkshire puddings clearly homemade and the roast potatoes and vegetables clearly fresh. The pudding was also delicious. Service was a little slow, but given the covid restrictions I can't complain. The staff were brilliant and polite and even the kitchen chef accommodating - a group arrived 5 mintes before the kitchen closed but the chef was prepared to take orders. All in all definitely will go back, a little well hidden gem.

Perfect belated Birthday lunch. I ate here with two friends on Friday to celebrate our belated birthdays. We had initially just wanted a light lunch so were a bit disappointed when we saw the menu which while small was for full dinner courses only - with the pub recently under new ownership. However I’m so glad we all decided just to go for it anyway. We all plumped for the Beef & Venison Burger. It was perfectly cooked served with fresh garnish, bacon and cheese and was utterly delicious delicious - as were the chunky fries which were crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. What a treat!! My only regret is we didn’t take any photos. We sat in the garden as we had our dogs. Since the last review the owners have definitely tidied up as it was immaculate and very pleasant to sit in. I really hope the owners do well. I will certainly be returning to try some of the other delicious sounding dishes on offer.

The Plough had been recommended for Sunday roast but we decided to visit on a sunny weekday and sit in the garden. Lovely old pub with good thatched roof and big garden (which could have benefited from a tidy up). However, we cannot give it more than a three out of five mainly due to the menu not representing the 'photos on the website or vice versa and the portions being somewhat small. My partner and I enjoyed the visit but afterwards she commented that the chicken supreme did leave a lot to be desired being a bit of breast and not much else and, although I had not noticed the cost at the time, £16.00 was a tad over the top she thought. Had to agree.Shame really.

We have been customers for over 35 years and despite living 20 miles away have always used this pub for family birthdays and anniversaries. My wife had her 21st birthday party in this pub over 32 years ago.Well today we took our mum of 84 years there for a family birthday treat so 6 people. First of all the starters took over an hour to be served. Simple things with very little prep. One of the starters was returned to the kitchen as the prawns on the skewer were raw. .It took another 20 minutes before they came back and by then all but one person had finished their starters. Well the next part of the meal was atrocious. 4 beef and 1 pork roast dinners and one steak. The roasts were all very sub standard. The meat was like processed vacuum packed school dinner beef and the vegetables were terrible. We ate what we could but all ended up leaving a major part of our meals. To cap it all off while my nephew was eating his steak he found a human hair on the steak and it put him off eating so half of the steak was wasted. When the table was cleared we were asked if everything was ok by the waitress and we explained how very disappointed we were with the quality of the meals and were told the manager would come and see us. Well after 20 minutes the chef came out and was rude and aggressive. We were told we had put the hair onto the steak and that the meals were all perfect as everyone else was telling her how good the food was. We were scolded like little children and made to feel that the issue was our problem not the pubs of hers. Eventually the bar manager came to speak to us. A wonderful lady who has worked there for I guess over 9 years and she was so helpful and was really sorry about our food. While she was talking to us the Chef was shouting that she wanted all 6 of us banned from the pub and we also heard a few choice words being shouted. Well we don’t need banning as we will never frequent the pub again. Such a terrible experience for our poor old mum on her birthday. Please think carefully before choosing this venue to use for food as you may be on the receiving end of the rude and quite aggressive chef if things aren’t as they should be.

We went back today for a larger family occasion and were extremely disappointed. The staff were rude when we arrived. Instead of welcoming us, they asked us what we were doing there. At first they only provided us with the limited light lunch menu rather than the full lunch/dinner menu. When we asked about wine, we were not shown a list but instead told some of the choices with no indication about the cost. The food was good but the service was incredibly slow. We arrived at 1pm and it took nearly an hour for our starters to arrive. My friends and I have been meeting at this pub for years and during that time we have experienced highs and lows in the standard of food. It used to be fabulous proper home cooked pub food, with the liver and bacon a real highlight. Sadly however, over our last few visits the quality of the meals has gone right down, and the length of time taken to actually deliver the meals has increased to an unacceptable long wait, especially given that there are rarely many, if any other diners.Tonight was the last straw for me, I ordered the special, mixed bean chilli with rice and sour cream. I was presented with what appeared to be a tin of mixed beans in chilli sauce, warmed through, some over cooked rice and a pot of what tasted like tartare sauce. I queried the sauce asking for sour cream as stated. I was told by the member of staff that it was in fact sour cream and chives, she had checked on the bottle! And did I want it or not? No, I didn’t, nor did I need her attitude, thank you. I am a customer.I did not take the matter further tonight as we were there to celebrate and I did not want to spoil the evening for my friends. I would suggest that the owners address their customer service along with their menu.

We (two people) arrived at The Plough at 12:15 on a Saturday lunchtime. There was one table of three waiting for their food and a table of five just arriving at the same time as us. We looked around the pub and saw a table of four with a reserve sign on it, the rest of the pub was completely empty of customers and there were many empty tables. We ordered a drink and as they were put on the bar asked if it was okay to order food. Sam replied that no there were only two members of staff in and they would be too busy to serve us. As we'd already ordered our drinks we had to stay for the next 20 minutes, in that time Sam did not serve any customers, the table of three were served their main course and the table of five had yet to order. We sat surrounded by empty tables and when we had finished our drinks we took our custom to The Fancott in Toddington, which despite being very busy encouraged us to find a table and served us a delicious fish finger baguette.

Taken to this rural pub on Saturday evening for a meal by our daughter and son in law. Not easy to find unless you know about it and fairly quiet when we arrived. Warm welcome from the landlord and a good selection of pub food. Good sized portions and quality was excellent.

The Crawley supporters were on the move again - this time to Northampton for a league match - we were looking for somewhere to have our usual pub stop and found the Plough by our usual method of the internet and google - we contacted them about a stop and they agreed. This is another gem - again just a few minutes of the M1 motorway at junction 11a - we arrived at midday and stayed until 1.30pm - the hospitality we received was excellent and so was the buffet provided for us - the staff could not have been more helpful - they served all 53 on the coach with drinks in very quick time - so now we have another visit in two weeks time when we travel to MK Dons - can't wait. Why people use motorway services I don't know when there are these gems so close.

We booked for a Saturday evening - it wasn't busy when we arrived around 6.15, but got quite busy around 7. From the great food and excellent customer service, I can see why! My partner was using his wheelchair and so we were given an easily-accessible table.

Visited for a Sunday lunch and it was fantastic! Their menu is great which made it difficult to choose from. Booked ahead and went for a chicken liver pate and beef roast dinner which was so moorish!

Very nice atmosphere matched with great food. The menu was a traditional sunday lunch/christmas lunch and was executed very well with other tasty sounding daily specials such as the burger (which I opted for).

We've been here many times before but the quality of the food, attentiveness of the staff and friendly atmosphere bear repeating. This was a family meal having returned from holiday so we were too tired to cook. What a great choice! Service was swift but not rushed and it was good to have proper food again! All for a good price too! Highly recommended.

A family get together of 7 people and 3 dogs were warmly welcomed to The Plough Inn on Sunday last post our walk on the lovely Dunstable Downs. I had booked a table as we were a large group with hounds and the woman I had spoken to said we could either be in the garden or in the 'conservatory' (a room off the main bar). It was a hot day and the conservatory was cooler - it had a big table to accommodate us all comfortably with direct access to the garden. A large bowl of water had been put down for the dogs - a really nice touch - and there were dog biscuits for sale at the bar. The service was good - orders taken quickly and timely arrival of food. All the meals were enjoyed - standard Sunday roasts and a specials menu. I wouldn't say the food was outstanding but it was fine - the beer was very much appreciated! Overall, it was just right for us - plenty of time to sit, eat, drink and catch up in a friendly village pub. Thank you The Plough Inn.

We loved the pub and the food was amazing! Compliments to the chef! However the bar maid got our drinks wrong, was sarcastic and paid more attention to the locals and her mobile phone than the passing trade. It is doubtful we will eat/drink here again. The beer selection is poor, although the real ales are great. It is a shame one person can have such an impact on an establishment!!

There were 12 of us celebrating my father-in-law’s 80th, and they had already given us the conservatory to ourselves, which was a good start to the occasion, especially being able to put up some birthday bits & bobs and having a table for cards & presis.

Four of us visited this pretty thatch-roofed pub in a quiet countryside setting on a Sunday afternoon. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. For me personally, the best pub roast I have had in many years. It would have been the perfect visit had it not been slightly soured by a member of staff who spoke to us quite abruptly on two separate occasions. It was rather off-putting and at one point we contemplated leaving, but the rest of the staff were friendly and helpful, and later the attitude of member of staff in question changed for the better. Despite the negative part of the experience, I would still recommend this pub for its picturesque setting and decent roast at a decent price.

Went to The Plough Inn on Father's Day and though the service and the staff were very friendly and efficient I couldnt decide on whether to rate the food poor or average. I had the garlic prawns for starters, though they didnt taste very garlicky and someone in my party had the white bait which were very good. We had the roast dinners for our mains and was a little disappointed. The food was tepid, the vegetables were a little too al dente and the yorkshire puddings were doughy and stodgy. Would give The Plough another try because of the friendly staff and service but wouldnt go for the roasts.

4 families needed feeding after a chilly walk on the Dunstable Downs and The Plough couldn’t have been more accommodating. They set up a room especially for us and made a crowd of children and 3 dogs very welcome. There were enough roasts for everyone and even some delicious specials. Empty plates all round! Very friendly staff - we’d come again!

The wife and I just arrived in England. We prefer to stay away from tourist traps (City/Restaurants). We enjoy dining at out of way establishments. We first started with the fried mushrooms and garlic mayo, wife had the traditional fish n chips and I had the 8oz sourdough burger. We finished every off with the cheesecake and the apple crumble. Everything was fresh and delicious. The ambiance was warm and inviting, staff was pleasant, the wood fireplace was the icing on the cake. We head to Leeds tomorrow, but will be back later next week, for sure, before departing to France.

I was traveling from London so Leicester, needed to stop and feed the family, really didn't fancy the service station! Found this place, not too far off the beaten track. The staff where wonderfully warm and welcoming, a delightful ambience, traditional country cottage. The food was absolutely delicious! Quality ingredients used, there was a better than average menu selection for the children too. No compromises in quality there either, very fairly priced. Thoroughly enjoyed our stop, I would highly recommend this place.

We visited the Plough at lunchtime in a program of trying many establishments for lunch. Whilst the food was good it din't particularly suit our requirements as we found the choice was limited, there wasn't anything we wanted for a light lunch and the meal cost was more than we wanted for a lunch. Were our visit to have been in an evening we might well have scored better as the food was very nice, the service was pleasant if a little slow and the ambiance of the place was very nice.

What a great place! We arrived in the middle of a downpour but soon found our spirits lifted. After an extremely warm welcome from the landlady, we were shown to a table and treated throughout the whole experience as first class customers. We ate from the lunchtime menu - £10.95 for two courses - bargain! Two of our party had potato skins to start which arrived with a great side salad. For mains two of us had Hunters Chicken and two had Gammon. Cannot fault the portion size, the time in which our food arrived, presentation or taste. It was all fantastic. Throughout the meal the staff were very attentive and happy to chat if you were. We all decided on pudding - bread and butter pudding for two, hot chocolate brownie and for our diabetic member a special effort to provide strawberries which weren't on the menu. Thank you to The Plough for that! The bill, together with two rounds of 3 pints, one soft drink came to £90. Not bad at all for four. Good food, good environment. Will definitely visit again

It started well with a good selection on the menu. When we came to order our breakfast sandwiches my friend asked how much it would be to add an egg to her bacon sandwich, at which point the waitress advised that the prices on the menu had increased so weren't correct & could only say they had gone up by about 50p. On asking for a sparkling water she advised that had also gone up by 20p maybe 30p, these increases were due to the cost of living increase. When we questioned why the menus hadn't been updated she advised there were new owners & it hadn't been done yet but that there was a sign on the wall inside the shop advising of the price increase, we were sat outside but to be honest anyone entering the shop wouldn't have seen it as it would have been behind them. She then brought out the A4 sign. She also tried to find an updated menu which she couldn't find. Firstly I am sure this must be illegal to advertise one price & charge another & secondly a hand written note could have been added to the menu or a copy of the price increase attached to the menu which everyone would have seen. Maybe the new owners should hold fire on the price increase until new menus are available as it may save their reputation. The breakfast sandwiches were very tasty, however the 'glass' that accompanied the sparkling water was in fact a jar with a thread for a screw top. Some might call it funky but not to everyone's taste. Needless to say it wasn't used. There are standards which have to be met & the clear advertising of correct pricing is one of them. We are all effected by the cost of living crisis & on occasions when we do our bit to support local businesses we might be watching the pennies too.

A very welcoming experience thanks to the excellent heritage centre guides who knew their stuff and pointed us in the right direction. The Centre is a must visit not just for aged train spotters but for every one. The line has a new future with East West Rail which needs all our support to get locals back on trains. Great coffee and cake made the day.
