Gem of a pub, perfect place to hide from the rain, or just take the weight off your feet! Spent a lovely couple of hours here chatting to fellow holiday makers and the owner! Currently no food served, but we can confirm they do pour a cracking pint

Visited here yesterday with my wife and our 2 cocker spaniels. We received a warm welcome from the land lady and the locals. The pub has changed hands in the last couple of weeks and the new owner intends to serve food in the near future. The Guinness was good and there is a good selection of other lagers and draughts.

This my favourite pub and when we ard up on holiday, we spend a few hour most nights here! At the moment it only sells drink, but the atmosphere is great and only requires a couple of people to get going! I recommend the pint of Tennents as it is as good as you'll anywhere!

Perhaps the Plough Inn is struggling balancing income, cost and investment in this Covid-19 world. It’s only a very small pub and we were encouraged to sit in the beer garden only, socially distant from others, beer quality was good especially the local Cromarty Happy Chappie but they food selection was “basket fair” and if you can deep fry it, it was on the limited menu will all deep fried options £7.50. Shame as a touch of investment even with a limited menu would have been better and as we all look to keep ourselves hand sanitised, the toilets could do with some TLC.

Very happy customers after our visit to the Plough on Sunday evening. Sat in the cosy public bar and enjoyed a delicious home-made macaroni and a scampi, chips and peas! A great new menu with a choice to suit everyone, hearty portions too and great value for money! Great service, great food and a great atmosphere. A must try whilst on the Black Isle!

The pub lived up to our expectations during a mid week stop at lunch time. The Bar tender had only been in place for a couple of weeks but did his very best to tell us of the history of the pub.How the place that served the food can call itself a restaurant beggars belief. After waiting over 30 minutes for a simple sandwich of ham and cheese we were eventually given bread that was not buttered, cheese that was obviously from a bag of grated cheese and ham that was of the cheapest reconstituted type ever available plus a black hair inside my cheese sandwich.By all means pop into the pub but I would steer clear of the place that murders food. This place needs refurbishing and serving a menu that respects its customers

After sitting in the rather scruffy beer garden on picnic bench which looked like was on its last legs we decided to risk dinner as one of the few places we cd take our dog. Was told on arrival that our table was bring prepared. Told to go through to restaurant after a couple of mins to find cracked formica table had been wiped as was still wet!! Every Starter incl soup was off menu - battered mushrooms was all that remained. We then tried to get Cromarty crusty bread with olive oil and balsamic. Coped when told there was no balsamic but gave up when told Cromarty bread also finished and offered sliced white bread with our oil!!!! Eventually my fish and chips arrived - batter under done and peas weird!! Asked for tartare sauce and may as well have asked for crown jewels. White Wine was warm and after complaining was replaced with another glass of warm wine!! People sitting around us having similar experience - reminded me of Faulty Towers. Very scruffy pub and cannot believe these type of places still exist. AVOID AT ALL COST.

Rightio, I'm not one to complain and moan on this site at all. There were some really good things about the Plough and there were some really not good things. We'll start with the former;Ok, so we had a table booked for 7 o'clock, we got there just after 6pm we had a couple of drinks, sat outside in the beautiful beer Garden, loved the bar and general layout of the place, service was awesome, the beer was awesome. So far so good. However, as said we had booked a table in the morning for dinner at 7, we went through to the dining room, where the waitress just said to find somewhere and then went through everything they didn't have on the menu because they had been busy (No problem with that, places get busy) however, we sat at a table, which hadn't been wiped, even when our order was taken and she could see the table was filthy, it still wasn't cleaned. The food was lovely when it came, but then another wierd thing happened when we asked for another drink, we were told we had to pay for that in the bar seperate from the food, which we did, they had WiFi issues and the card payment took an age (I get things can be difficult due to the pubs remoteness)This place was frustrating because it does so many of the hard things right (good beer garden, friendly ambience, nice food, great bar service) and so many of the simple things horribly wrong, wiping tables, making sure that people can pay simply (trust me, people will spend more)

Have been here numerous times and have always loved it . But this time we visited between Christmas and new year . The pavement outside the front door was littered with cigarette stubs and rubbish and dirty glasses sitting on the bench . Inside the welcome was warm as always but wow we were shocked at how rundown it was . Wood burning stove door was smashed and a small heater was insitu . We saw two other couples come in look about and then leave, both visitors to the area .We live in the area but were sorely disappointed.

After taking the walk to the Fairy Pools (there’s access to the path just behind this establishment), we stopped at the Plough Inn for a tasty lunch of roast beef and fixings. Services wasn’t the fastest we’ve ever experienced, especially considering that there was only one other group in the restaurant and they had already received their food, but the staff was charming. We ordered toffee pudding for desert, since apparently the only place in the world you can get decent toffee pudding is in Scotland; it was quite good.

What a lovely traditional and amazingly friendly pub this is. The bar is stunning and obviously very old. This is why I love rural Scotland. We went back three times during our visit. Natalia looked after us and our two wee dogs (A Tibetan Terrier and a Westie). They loved young Natalia to bits. She was the most attentive and caring person of any hostelry we have ever visited. The chef is a gentleman and superb cook. In fact all the staff and locals were welcoming. This is a wonderful old pub with modernised rear lounges but it is truly what Scotland is all about! The Plough Inn is barely average. Stopped in for some dinner as handy to where we were staying. Service was half hearted whilst the food was poor standard and value (fish batter not cooked and gammon steak hard fired). Gents toilet was in dire need of cleaning. Nice attractive pub serving food and good Happy Chappy beer.. Interesting to hear others' favourable comments about the food. We went to the Plough last Monday and found a 'restricted' menu which we went along with as Monday is the chef's day off and we had to eat somewhere.... however...the macaroni cheese was actually AWFUL, overcooked (pre-cooked?) pasta in a white sauce with not a hint of cheese `apart from the sprinkling of cheddar on top. Couldn't get it down, just ate the raggle of frozen chips and salad leaves and left, picked up a chicken breast from the chippy on the way home. Even on the chef's day off the food shouldn't be this bad. The manager or chef should take command of quality and decide if serving food on a Monday is really playing fair with customers of the Plough.

Not a good evening at all. Started with the barman (who appeared to have had a sense of humour bypass) failing to mange to pour a beer and not understanding what "Is it dead, then?" meant. Continued with my chum's order of haddock, home made tartare sauce, chips ..." (as the menu stated) not having the tartare sauce. When asked for it, waitress said "Sorry, there's no tartare sauce." Could have told him when he ordered. My macaroni cheese (Scotland's national dish) was poor. P*ss poor. Could have been made by a nursery class.Friends' beef burgers could have been incinerated less to make them suitable for a crematorium end-product. Then we ordered four more drinks. 10 minutes later reminded waitress and eventually glum barman comes and makes a big show of opening and serving the small, one serving bottle. I gave up and snatched mine in the end as I couldn't bear the drama, especially as we'd finished our food by then. When we paid, we didn't leave a tip partially because it was all so bad and partially in protest as the people who'd come in late next to us (only other ones in the place) were told their drinks (a slimline tonic and a ginger beer) would be on the house because of the delay in cooking their food. AND they waited ages more ... Terrible. Hope they didn't leave a tip, either.Three of us paid cash and the fourth went to Glum Barman, tried to explain that the waitress had taken cash from us and only wanted to pay his portion on a card. When that finally got through after several attempts at explaining, he used the contactless machine. Friend asked for receipt to check the amount he'd paid and was told the machine doesn't do receipts. Machine then proceeds to print out receipt. Egg on face look from the Glum.Redeeming factor? The chips were OK.Won't be going back even though it's close by and we tour round the eateries on a monthly basis. Give this a wide berth until something happens to improve the overall quality of the place. Shame that the owner has a wonderful cafe in the next town and could transfer something to this dire pub.

Having passed this quaint inn many times we dropped in and for me it reminded me of what a good old fashioned pub should be, except for the TV, but that is part of more modern times. The staff were all friendly and efficient and i was pleased to see there was local beers on tap. We were offered the dining room or 1 of the tables in the small bar, and opted for the cozy bar.The menu was not extensive but offered a fairly good variety and both our orders were faultless. Well done to all at The Plough Inn and look forward to returning.

A lovely old pub in Rosemarkie, built probably in the 16th century or earlier, rebuilt in 1907, as seen from the plaque over the entrance. Some of the locals were having a drink and were friendly. Unfortunately for us, the cook had gone off ue to a family emergency, so we had to content ourselves with Caledonian lager. Great!

Excellent food and friendly helpful staff. Little or nothing to complain about. The revuer of March must have suffered from her own verbal diarrhoea and is completely over the top.

We were through in Rosemarkie for the seaside, and decided to have some lunch first. There weren't too many options in the surrounding area, so we decided to try The Plough Inn.As I walked in, I noticed a distinct smell of cat pee. Im sorry if that sounds unfair or if it can somehow be explained, but I really didn't find it acceptable for an eatery. Other overall impressions of the place were that it seemed nice enough- cosy and quaint. I decided to continue and get some lunch, despite the offensive smell as there really weren't many places to choose from that I could see. (eventually, like any smell, you didn't really notice it, but it made me a tad uneasy to think about why it was in a restaurant in the first place!) The menu was varied, and it seemed a bit more than just "pub grub" as suggested in earlier reviews. I ordered the traditional steak pie and chips, which was actually pretty tasty, and a fair portion, too. Other members of my group opted to get a couple of starters rather than a main as they were looking for something lighter to eat. The kids menu was a nice addition, and the kids portions were well sized too. With such nice food, I was really looking forward to something sweet...The dessert was ridiculous. we went for the cheesecake of the day. AKA the foam in a glass of the day. This was not a cheesecake by any stretch of the imagination! For 4.95, you are presented with a semi- crumbled digestive biscuit at the bottom of a cocktail glass- maybe 1.5 digestive biscuits- I'm not too sure on that. The biscuit is then topped with a sweetened aerated cream and a strawberry cut in half so artistically plopped on top. I would consider the total cost to make to be about 50p. Now, I understand that a cheesecake base is, essentially, digestives with butter added and then a topping added and set. Simple. But this really took the proverbial! Also, considering it took at least 25 minutes to appear after our food (and it had been ordered all together) I was expecting something magnificent, but no, I got a foamy, sickly mess that I only ate because it cost me a fiver! Whoever created this shortcut should rethink their approach. Before we left, I popped to the toilet and noticed that it was grubby all the way up the stairway. Smudges and fingerprints everywhere. I understand that a place can only do so much to prevent wear and tear but in future- get silk paint and it can be wiped clean once a week! It was also rather off-putting to see that there had been some childish drawings added to the top of the stairs- Im not sure whether this is a nice piece of family art (in which case is excused) or if it has been an accident by one of the younger clientele which hasn't yet been fixed. It would literally take 10 minutes to paint over this. The toilets looked as though they really needs a bit of DIY. There were a couple of holes in the wall which would easily be panelled over, and again the toilet is quite grubby. I'm quite glad that I was on my way out, as I would have been tempted to drive to the next town if I had seen the overall grubbiness beforehand, coupled with the funny smell. I really don't like to give poor reviews, but I honestly feel as though this one was justified. The only reason the minimum score wasn't given is that the waiting staff were friendly, and the main food was quite tasty. Total bill was about £48 for 4 starters, 1 main, 1 child's meal, a cheeseboard, 2 "cheesecakes" and a child's ice-cream. On paper, this seems fair enough, but I can't help but feeling a little ripped off, given I would have been a tenner less, and enjoyed the experience a bit more without the foamy nonsense.I would not recommend this place, even if in the area. Drive to the next town and go to the co-op for a sandwich! Have a nice picnic on the beach, and you will enjoy it more. I would recommend that The Plough Inn gets a deep clean done as the summer season is nearly upon us and I would like for something constructive to come out of this.

the new owners have done an amazing job in redecorating and creating a great, cosy atmosphere, and the food is just delicious.

We popped into the Plough Inn for our tea after a long drive up the road from Perth. We were met by a very friendly waitress/barmaid (to our shame, we never did get her name but she was great!) and offered a seat in either the dining area or pub.We chose the pub since it was just the two of us in and it was quite cosy. The Plough Inn offers a varied and well-priced standard menu, as well as daily specials. The food was excellent and very well cooked - I was very reluctant to share any of my main with my husband! Our waitress was also very knowledgeable about the menu, while the chef was happy (or at least willing!) to make some slight changes to my starter by leaving out one of the ingredients I didn't like. It may have been a random pick, but the Plough Inn turned out to be an excellent choice and we'd definitely go back next time we're in the area.

We were staying at Rowan Cottage and decided to try eating at the Plough Inn as Crofters where we usually eat was closed until March. ThevInn has recently changed hands and has been redecorated beautifully. The service was excellent and the menu varied. I chose the fish and chips and have never had such good fish and chips. They were attractively presented with delicious chips, tastey salad and delicious home made tartare sauce. Our prawn cocktail starter was also delicious and very generous, full of prawns and smoked salmon. We were too full to sample the desserts but plan to return on Sat. I think They deserve to do well and become very popular. PpPpiP

After a morning moving furniture into my new home, I took the friends that had helped me into the Plough for lunch. One of my friends who is a vegetarian, remarked that she had never seen such a range of options in both starter and main course food.

Went for evening meal, no other people in lounge. Waitress very pleasant, did think she could have remembered who was taking what when serving meal, especially when we were the only diners! A few of us had pesto with fish, no taste of basil, cheese overpowering. The Raspberry cheesecake was a bit of a joke, small cocktail glass with some crumbs then ? A mixer of cream, cheese and perhaps one Raspberry mashed into mixture. The barman came through with drinks, no eye contact or banter. Surrounding quaint

We went in here with our dog and had an evening meal. Ok you are not able to go in the restaurant area with the dog so we sat in the bar which was fine. Our meal was beautiful and served by Audrey who was lovely and chatty. We had the lamb and the battered fish mains plus 2 gorgeous desserts and coffee. This was a lovely birthday treat and included the dog which is great. Thank you to all concerned. Give this place a try the meals are fab.

Fantastic food and service Suspect the buffet breakfast is bring down the scores of a brilliant evening restaurant which appears at the same venue in the evening Seriously lovely food, nouvelle cuisine portion sizes but seriously food prep; taste; and quality Extremely impressed by a in-house hotel restaurant being this good

Go to Wetherspoon's instead... Popped in here for lunch, but really wish we had gone elsewhere. We had a chicken burger, and a pulled pork and BBQ beef burger, and both of them weren't great. The chicken burger tasted cheap and heavily processed, and the beef burger was the same. It was also pretty dry and tough, and was missing the BBQ sauce. Both of us actually left a good chunk of our burgers and just ate the chips instead. We spent £56 pound, and the bill came with a service charge included, which felt like a bit of a slap in the face considering the food was bad and the service was non-existent apart from "here's your table, here's your food, here's your bill". I'd honestly recommend going to Wetherspoon's instead of this place if you want food. The food is about the same quality, but half the price. And the service was actually better in Wetherspoon's as well!

No food on offer other than crisps, ice cream and a meagre offering of cake, shocked as we were there for a 1pm show and had travelled over an hour thinking we would be fine for lunch at the theatre. Staff were fine, no hint of getting things done in a timely fashion and not much interaction with customers. Decor is depressing, such a big space makes it cold and echoey. Just no atmosphere whatsoever. Very disappointed and won't be back.

We all had Sunday lunch (£22), service was good and waitress was friendly. However the Roast dinner was lukewarm, the beef was far from tender and the Yorkshire pud was clearly reheated and very greasy. The bar wasn’t able to provide many of the beers/lagers on tap. Altogether a very disappointing visit. We were here last year and I still remember The Venison I had. Clearly new management/chef. Definitely give it a miss.
