The Plough Harborne in Birmingham

We needed a place to stop before heading to the QE for a consultation. So this was a great place for food. Which was tasty and reasonably priced. Staff were friendly and welcoming

Worth going just for the outdoor space, great garden area.

The food here is fab! My mate and I always have the same dishes and share them 💥💥💥

Staff extremely pleasant, found me a table for one with no booking, served quickly and food came quickly, excellent. Had to remind several staff about my drink, which I got eventually. Asked if I wanted sauce and pepper with my pizza, to which I said yes but never received. Took several attempts to get the bill and even longer to pay, and it was ridiculously expensive for what it was. £20 for pizza and damn near £7 for a shandy plus a £4 service charge is just nuts. I read the menu and I still ordered it but if you're going to charge a premium the service needs to be better. Food was decent and the pub is pretty but I won't be back in a hurry.

Came here to eat, rather than stay. We hadn't booked a table but fortunately there was space for our visit. I opted for the goats cheese pizza whilst my husband had the spicy vegan burger, which I tried and was very spicy! Our daughter enjoyed her pizza from the children's menu. All plates were emptied and we enjoyed our meals.

A great gastropub with lovely staff and a good range of dishes including calzone, burgers and pizza. Good selection of beers. Over the years the things that made the place a mind-blowing favourite have sadly disappeared, for example there used to be some very different dishes; beef carpaccio, Stilton and Parmesan pizza as well as another with candied bacon. There used to be an incredible range of whisky, which whilst pricey were varied and interesting, the range is much smaller, the whisky bar has gone and the prices have become eye watering at £12 for 25ml of something that costs £56 a bottle. The latest change is the place no longer accepts Amex which is an annoying inconvenience after all these years. Still love the place but what set it apart is not quite the same.

Great venue....Great staff....Great choice of drinks available....Food menu is rubbish....no chicken dishes....Roast only available with beef....should be a chicken option....no burger meal options....i had to eat two kids meals as nothing i could eat on the main menu....spoilt my experience....would ot recommend & i won't be returning to eat here.....

Wow no puede fallar la comida de hoy a pesar de que es el día de las madres significa que estaba ocupado. Sentado "afuera" como tenía perro con nosotros. Pero fuera tiene calentadores y está totalmente cubierto, así que está bien. La carne asada era excelente y tazón de clavo para nuestro invitado sin lácteos también era excelente. Los postres eran excelentes. Gran budín de toffee pegajoso casi tan bueno como el mío jajaja. El mejor pudín de pan y mantequilla que mi marido ha probado. Servicio excelente vibraciones. Si tuve alguna queja fue al azar que las zanahorias asadas estaban frías.

Just wanted to say a big thank you to the lovely lady who served us today (sorry I can't remember her name!). It was my mom's birthday and she made it extra special by giving her a free drink on the house, a birthday card and a £10 voucher, she then brought the cake out and sang happy birthday also. It was all so very sweet and we were very shocked as it wasn't expected! Thank you very much for making my mom's birthday extra special.

Had a really good experience tonight. Our waitress was friendly and smiley but not too over the top. She was efficient, attentive and polite. The food was good, nice and fresh, a lot of items were homemade. Good selection of cocktails and wines too.

I was there with a friend, we ordered at the same but my food took ages to arrive. My friend had already eaten all her food because it took that long, I asked for a refund, apparently they processed it but I’m yet to see it in my bank account 😨.. I got my things and I was ready to go, in that moment the food arrived and my cuban sandwich was burnt 😱 - how would you rate my experience?

My Second Visit here this time, my Wife’s 40th Birthday Party, Meal/Buffet type Service and Food Quality is amazing and portions are massive. Maybe out touch with going out but I thought alcohol drink around £6.50 a pint is excessive. Soft drinks nearly £4

Disgusted I was at the plough pub in Harbourn yesterday. Wanted 2 wines gave £20 pound note to pay was advised the cash could be accepted but no chance could be given. I was shocked asked why not and told it was the pubs policy. Won’t be going again and Iv put on Facebook the appalling policy. No signs us to tell you cash accepted but no chance given. 🤬🤬🤬😱

Really nice place and very well located. The food is generally good, the beer options are not so wide, and it does not change almost at all. The biggest problem is certain bar tenders in Plough. Some are really good at their job, but others show a minimum appetite for attending to customers. Some, especially a girl with short blonde hair, are extremely rude even. I have encountered her several times, but I have not yet seen a day that she is polite or attentive. She makes sure you know she is rude, and she makes sure you think she is doing a favour when attending to a customer! Not acceptable!

I love the environment. Anytime I've visited it's bubbly and fun and super diverse. Staff are awesome, attentive and great fun. But... I'm giving them a 3 * for two consecutive awful filter coffees and the worst I've ever had. Scorched and dreadful and still expensive and a full English breakfast that had the bacon over cooked. This isn't normal.

Unassuming place from outside but on entry, boom, fabulous venue, service and food. Like a tardis and very busy. Will give 5 stars but kitchen feels a little underpowered for the demand. We are told there would be a delay and they looked after us plus we were not in a rush so pleasant place to hang out. Food quality was excellent when arrived and great varied menu.

This is easily one of the best pubs in Birmingham. The staff are lovely. Plus, I got served within 60 seconds of walking through the front door.

Really disappointed. Been here a few times where the food (the pizza) has been good. Nice vibe and setting. However today I was so angry I will never attend again and will ensure friends and family don't attend either. We booked a table for 20 people on Monday (6 days ago) for today. Everything was fine. I called this morning to ask if we could order food off the menu as we noticed the main meals don't start till 5pm and our booking was for 3pm, although worst case we can all order pizza which is what the place is famous for. When calling, the manager said unfortunately they cannot accommodate us ordering off the main menu. She then told me they had lost a member of the kitchen team and the Pizza oven was closed today. So effectively there was NOTHING for us to order and bringing a party of 20 people for a surprise birthday, left me gobsmacked. If I never called this morning they never would have called me to advise me. Luckily I called. Poor poor service especially for a big booking. Almost ruined my cousin's birthday but luckily I called The Rolling Mills in Jelewry Quarter who saved us. So disappointed with The Plough for not calling me at any point in the week to inform me their menu that would be available to us on Sunday would be no existent. Shame.

Although we had some questions about the menu as it was slightly different to the usual Sunday roast we have come to enjoy, Ed was really friendly and approachable and made our meal enjoyable and was ready to help with any issues we had.

Travelled down from West Yorkshire to visit our daughter at university and booked a table for my daughter’s 21st birthday. We informed the restaurant of her birthday when we booked and brought a ‘Happy 21st Birthday’ runner to put on the table. However, sadly not one person bothered to wish her a happy birthday or make our visit special. Food was pretty good but the service was bang average - one pleasant waitress and one grumpy waitress. We’ve been there a few times before and always had a pleasant meal but overall on this occasion it was a disappointing experience.

We were running late for our booking time due to being at the hospital. We called the plough and they said no problem "come when we can"which was amazing . Beautiful Sunday roast cooked to perfection with excellent service. Thank you .. Mr Law

I've been here countless times over the years but more recently with several large lunch groups (15-20) from work. Each time all staff have been brilliant and the food is of a good quality, although there are only a small number of vegan options.

A lovely evening at the Plough. Food was a bit slow and two meals in particular took a while to come out but we were immediately offered for them to be taken off the bill - we didn’t even have to ask. Our server was extremely friendly and attentive and thoroughly deserved the service charge. Food was delicious too.

Lovely waiter who catered for our mixed group of elderly to young babies so nicely. We had plenty of room and the food was delicious!

Always a relaxing experience with great good. Free filter coffee with brunch made the meal great value.

We found the food to be just OK, nothing special at all, which was disappointing as it is expensive. The service was poor, when we got our roast dinners we had to wait 10 minutes for the vegetables before we could start our meal, which went cool, despite asking twice. The restaurant was noisy and difficult to talk between ourselves in, so unfortunately, we won't return.

El servicio de una cálida reunión y saludo amable a la increíble atención al detalle y un gran interior con estilo. Bien hecho todo! Really disappointed. The place was really dirty especially table tops and windows. Bar staff not engaging and really slow. Choice of beers truly average. Such a change for the worse since a visit just a couple of years ago.

The portions were huge and the food was delicious with high quality ingredients. Service was great, toilet facilities were clean and modern, wine was good and there was a lively atmosphere even on a Wednesday night. A real diamond in the rough, couldn't recommend more!!

The reputation of being the best Gastro Pub in Harborne and surrounds is well deserved. The food was as lovely as the last time I was there, but the service also sets the Plough apart from other places. I don't know whether it is how they e been trained by the owners, or the choice of staff, but theyve a lovely way about them. Without being over-familiar or cheesy, hey make you feel like welcome old friends or family. We had a lovely visit, unhurried and comfortable and though the pub was very busy, the general design, clientele and seating plan meant that it wasn't too noisy, plenty of room and a lovely ambience. Rare on a busy Friday night in a popular venue. Thanks folks, We will, of course, be back.

Warm, family friendly place to eat, drink, and chat. Excellent brunches and lots of seating. Especially with the newly improved outdoor area. Mondays: 2 for 1 pizzas. Tuesdays: 2 for 1 burgers. 2 for 1 brunch (served until 12) for NHS and Blue Light Card holders.

Loved it here but on this occasion they got my order wrong and gave me beef. I'm a vegetarian and that got to me. Had to change my order completely. No discount was offered

Every time we visit, I honestly feel like it just gets better! The staff are amazing - friendly, helpful and fun. The food was completely spot on, with the children’s food even impressing a 3yrold AND 8yrold! Thanks again for another amazing stress free family meal, The Plough!

We’re regular customers and do enjoy the experience. However, on this occasion the service from the kitchen was very slow : 50 minutes for first course then a further 15 minutes for the main. Table service was fine . We had an apology and something gratis .

Not been here in many many years and totally impressed with its makeover - it’s now a really upmarket, great venue for drinking/dining. Location not great if you’re driving as parking nearby is poor and service wasn’t great but they were busy. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit and would definitely return

Fantastic expeirence from start to finish. Needed to expand our booking from 11 to 13 - restaurant confirmed quickly that would be fine. We were welcomed and had great service throughout even though the pub was super busy. Head heard it was great and can't recommend it highly enough!

great place for a cosy dinner,a small but amazing menu. I love their Poke Bowl the most. Their pizza is good too, very busy place so expect delays.The staff is amazing.

The staff were very helpful. But unfortunately the food wasn’t amazing. The Cuban sandwiches had too much mustard for our taste and the Caesar salad had hardly any chicken. I told the server about the Caesar salad and without hesitation she ordered another one but it took too long so we cancelled it. Then the server gave us a £10 voucher and took the salad of the bill, which was very good but it didn’t change the fact the food wasn’t amazing. But because we didn’t want the replacement salad and it had just been made, they put it in a takeout bowl. Also not a great section of gin either. Not a great experience. Sorry

Lovely evening, great service, didn’t feel rushed off the table

I love this place, but unfortunately my last visit was not great. We were invited to seat in the outside area, but the Heathers were just not enough to keep us warm. The food was a mix. We had the Christmas menu, the venison pie was lovely, but the Turkey sandwich was terrible, oily/greasy, heavy, not nice at all. For dessert we had a crumble and a sticky toffee pudding. The sticky toffee pudding was a large block of a dry sponge decorated with a bit of sticky sauce on top, definitely not the quality of food expected in this gastro pub. I couldn't eat that dessert, not even the ice cream was nice. A real shame, we ere so looking forward to having a nice end of the year meal, but on this occasion we were let down.

I love going to The Plough for family get together. The food is great and a reasonable price, it's really central for us all to meet and the atmosphere and team working there are all amazing.

The plough has always been a favourite but this week I had lunch with friends. The mains were fine except they got the wrong order for one of my friends and had to take it back. Secondly, the brownie I had was uncooked, compared to my friend's brownie (she had the same). When pointed out to the waitress she replied - 'it was cooked in the same batch', clearly not! No offer of reimbursement. As a result my stomach has been a bit dodgy since Tuesday..... wonder why! The prices in comparison to the food are way too expensive and that goes for the service which has declined over the past few years. I will not be going back again as there are better places to eat at in Harborne.

Came here for a work Christmas dinner and it was lovely. We had sent our orders a few days before which seemed ti help. We did have to wait awhile before getting our mains but it was all good. Waitresses were really lovely too. Had a chicken and red onions calzone with three scoops of ice cream from the festive menus and Cajun chips!

Popped in for breakfast on my way to New Street Station. Food and ambience is amazing. Background music was sublime and at a nice level, not to loud. I had the full breakfast and it was really tasty and well presented.

Came yday afternoon. Connor looked after us well and made sure we had everything. Food was nice and there was a busy atmosphere. Would come again.

Milk! The portion of milk to have in coffee is tiny! Like white American and you get like a teaspoon of milk. The waitress was rude to a older lady, in ear shot. Loads of empty tables and because she hadn't reserved was made to feel guilty and bad.

Visited The Plough as part of a large (30+ person) group for a Christmas meal. The waiting staff were magnificent, patient with the large group and welcoming of us. Would highly recommend.

As always The Plough is a friendly well run eating place. Beautiful decorations and always buzzing with happiness. It’s our go to place in Harborne as although a little pricey offers a brilliant menu. Food is always great quality and well presented. Thank you The Plough…..we’ll be back!

Tuvimos el mejor tiempo allí! Mi novia y yo cuando necesitamos una buena comida siempre vamos al arado. El servicio y la comida es siempre increíble y fresco. Anna estaba cuidando de nosotros y ella era extremadamente servicial y atento. Buen trabajo chicos por tenerla en su equipo!

Friendly welcome and speedy service. Atmosphere was good, chilled but place was busy. Pigs and blankets ans garlic bread with mozzarella were both brilliant! Chorizo and ham pizza, to be honest was average (has been years since I was last there). Cuban sandwich with with turkey brie / cranberry, was also average. The toasted bread was very firm and the fillings lacked much flavour, too much cheese and not enough meat. The dipping sauce was spicy and really tasty. You do pay a premium, it was expensive for what it was. Not sure if return in a hurry.

Service really good. Food offering seems to have shrunk on a Sunday lunchtime. Would have liked wider choice in roast offerings.

I normally love The Plough for a meal and had heard great things about The Plough's Sunday roast. We ordered the roast beef with sides of cauliflower cheese. All of the vegetables were great and very tasty, but the Yorkshire pudding was rock hard and the beef was incredibly salty, so much so that I left the majority of it. The two friends I was with also found the beef very salty, but did eat more of it than I did. I did mention this to the waitress who took our plates and she said she would let the chef know. The sticky toffee pudding, however, was delicious.

We have been to the plough a few times so knew the high standards it keeps. I wanted a relexaed birthday brunch with my husband so we came down. I had the veggie breakfast and he has the house breakfast. Both were lovely and the expectional standards we are used to at the Plough. However, on this occasion the food was not the star of the shows. The star was the lovely server, Liv. Liv really made my birthday, she gave me a complimentary bilini and catered to us with a smile. Very helpful, friendly and chatty. I was a waitress for many years when I was younger and as such really appreciate good customer service. Friendliness and care go a long way, a small gesture from Liv actually had a huge impact on my day and my 31st birthday. Thanks Liv Ps - management, give this girl a raise.
