I'm celiac and it's hard to find a gluten free chippy . Unfortunately this place is just to expensive £4.00 for curry sauce and £7 large chips and if you have fish chips it's £18.75 I can't afford to keep paying them prices so won't be back Unfortunately

Always excellent - reasonably priced, quick service and a very experienced family that run it. Highly recommended!

My husband recently was advised to have a gluten free diet. We have found it hard to find a chip shop that offers decent gluten free food. We arrived and was greeted by a very friendly and professional man . We explained about the gluten free and he was so nice and welcoming and did everything he could to make my husband feel comfortable. The food was the best we've had in a long time and we're over the moon that it's not too far from out house . I can't praise this chip shop enough! Thank you

The gluten free options are the most important to me, being a celiac myself. Little on the expensive side but that is way things are now. That said, the food is tip top, hot and delicious.

I’ve never been more excited and thoroughly pleased to try fish and chips. There isn’t any takeaway that safely offers Gluten Free in Quinton or around Harborne. This place was recommended to us, they safely offer Gluten Free with a separate fryer and even cooks it right in-front of you, and it’s fresh to order! It costs only £10 for GF small fish and chips, and it certainly isn’t small either! The chips were soft and crispy, plenty of salt, the fish batter was actually CRISPY and the fish itself was flakey, soft and juicy. My husband isn’t GF but he ordered it too and said it’s absolutely delicious! This will now become our regular fish and chip shop, thank you for catering to coeliac disease so safely. You should put signs outside offering GF, or advertise it as i’m sure even more people would flock here. Thank you to the staff🩷

I've been getting my fish and chips from Stan and the team for as long as I can remember. Always lovely and fresh and very tasty. Super friendly owner. Love going in to see them every time.

I went there with my son and was greeted by a young lady with a writing pad at her disposal. However, despite the fact that our order was WRITTEN DOWN, the order was still cocked up!! The chips were like recycled cardboard and the roe that I asked for was cooked in a microwave and not deep fried as I expected. I paid £5 for a small portion of chips and roe. On reflection, I would rather have gone hungry. If the staff.... (the young lady in particular) can't read the order that SHE has written down, why is she taking the orders??? I would NEVER ENCOURAGE anyone to use this place.... no matter how hungry that you are!! I have to admit that we didn't spend a massive amount of money in the place, however, the overall service was very poor. I regret the time that I spent looking for a local chip shop. I won't be using this place at any time in the future.

I’ve been gong her for the best part of 10 years. However after visiting earlier today I received appalling service.-I simply wanted some Fred chicken but they had no chicken at all, so I ordered something else, another customer came in after me and ordered same food but was served first with no acknowledgment of my presence in the shop ior the facts i gad ordered and had my cash out to pay. I asked if there was a reason why the other customer was served whilst I was waiting before him and I was not given a reason. I will not be purchasing from this establishment again. Very dissatisfied and disappointed with the very poor service.

Been ordering from Harborne fish bar for several years for delivery and can honestly say they are consistently the very best option locally. I've tried others in Harborne/Quinton and then eaten tons of fish and chips all over the UK coast. These guys deliver freshly cooked, crispy battered sweet cod every time. Wherever in the world we go on holiday, we look forward to a delivery upon return. Its the only takeaway/delivery we have now. Even the mushy peas are great! Keep doing what you do guys :-)

Ordered the £8 fish box around lunchtime. Most definitely yesterday's fish. Clearly re-heated batter . The chips and curry sauce was ok . Not worth £8 . Fresh is best . Probably wont return.

It was worth a short drive to then enjoy the most delicious gluten free fish and chips. Nothing was too much trouble for the owner who even served gluten free curry sauce and vinegar. To add the fish was fresh, it definitely didn’t taste like frozen-It was absolutely delicious! 10/10 ⭐️⭐️

This is the best fish and chip shop for miles. We travel from Bromsgrove because it's just so good. The food is fresh, the shop clean and the flavour is like the fish and chips of my youth. Will not go anywhere else

After a long journey, me and my uncle decided to stop for some food and searched for a local gluten free chip shop. Walked in, asked about gluten free and had it confirmed. I then went to order my food non gluten free and got basically told that gluten free orders come first and they need to take that order before they can take mine. Tried to charge me £6 for a gluten free sausage and chips, but demanded we were told the price before we were allowed to order. Was very rude telling us that it would be 5 times more expensive to have gluten free. My uncle buys gluten free sausages on a regular basis and they are literally a pound or two more expensive than normal ones. Charge me £10 for a battered sausage, mini fish and chips - which was a precooked sausage that had been left in the hot hold and then taken out and battered, the batter didn’t even stick to it. The fish was very saturated in water, that it had no flavour and was not enjoyable, I tried to feed it to my cat who loves fish and even he turned his nose up at it. Absolutely horrible service, not a smile or a thank you. Probably the worst chip shop I’ve ever visited and probably never will visit again. Staff are rude and the guy who I assume was the owner just had no customer service skill. It’s just like they’re going against those with dietary needs. No advertised prices for gluten free or signage saying that gluten free was a little more expensive. Not happy.

The best cod fish in the whole of Birmingham. I have tried many places this is number 1 for me absolutely 💯 quality fish taste is amazing. Price is also reasonable always cooked fresh on order. Sometimes the chips are greasy which i don’t like. Apart from that 10/10

Now I'm a big lover of fish and chips and I can state without doubt that Harborne Fish bar produce exceptional fish and chips! The kebab meat is way better then the usual tat you get from other chip shops. Curry sauce is tasty and a great consistency. I've been ordering from here for a few months and have been very happy with the food each and every time. Thanks Harborne Fish Bar. Keep up the good work guys!

I've been here many times and I do think this is the best chippie around Harborne. The price, portions and taste is the best and the owners are lovely too. They've taken care of this place for many years and it's nice that there is a TV in there so you can watch while you wait for your order

I had given up on ever finding a really great fish and chip shop in my local area. So I did not have high hopes when it came to trying Harborne Fish Bar. I was mistaken it is an outstanding fish and chip shop, great chips, light batter on the fish, they even did a well cooked cod without batter. The staff were friendly and helpful, the shop looked clean and well maintained. I just hope they don’t change anything. This is a class chippy, probs the best around brum central. Thank you for reliable gluten-free fish and chips that taste amazing and fully worth the price. Only note is to please expand your delivery radius by half a mile so I don’t have to walk ten minutes to get it delivered - having said that, I have done and would do that again for these fish and chips. Very accommodating and use alternative batter for those with multiple food allergies. The owner was very patient and showed the ingredients of the batter and offered alternative batter mix due to our complex variation of food allergies. The food tasted amazing! The only chip shop we have come across who offer alternatives to those with food allergies!

Terrible fish! I’m really disappointed by this visit! The fish was actually disgusting, the batter was soggy and the fish had a chemical taste. The chips and the peas were not the greatest either!

Proper fish and chip shop, the owners are Cypriot and have been there for years they are so lovely. The food is quality, always fresh and tasty. This place is a little gem, I haven't found a better one yet!

Friendly, tasty food, very careful with allergens (nut free, inc traces and offer gluten free option), consistently best fish and chips. Only slight downside is they are cash only and local cash point broken is have to plan ahead!

Good portions of well cooked fish. Haddock and cod are both good. Beware of very large portions of chips. One portion is more than enough for 2 adults. Our regular choice for fish & chips.

I asked for a curry chip as I’m veggie and was given lumps of rubbery chicken in the curry. Vile and greasy took them 20 minutes to make a fish supper and a curry chip...

After reading the other review, we decided to give it a try. We phoned first to check gluten free fish and chips were available for my son. We placed our family order over the phone. I drove there and it was all ready! The man (sorry, name not known!) Was so incredibly polite and helpful. He even offered to carry the bag to my car! The shop was spotlessly clean and most importantly, food was great! Shall definitely be returning!

I wasn't aware of anywhere in Birmingham which did gluten free fish and chips. This was recommended to me and what a find! Delicious fish and chips and gluten free. The batter is crispy and the fish not at all greasy. It was truly delicious. Stan was very helpful and showed all the ingredients and the separate fryer where they are cooked. Best to ring ahead 15 minutes before on 0121 427 7759.

Well, it was Thursday and the kids fancied a fish and chips. We decided to go to Harborne Fish Bar as the food is usually very good. Unfortunately, the food we purchased this occasion was extremely poor. We ordered 2 fish and chips and I kid you not, the fish was 60% batter and 40% fish. It also appeared that that the fish had been over cooked or even worse, fried twice, it was rough and difficult to chew so the kids left it. The chips we’re ok. I can only assume less attention is focussed on weekday custom as the shop isn’t that busy. I am very disappointed and will think twice about visiting this shop on a weekday. This is the first bad experience I have had and feel let down as usually the food is good. The owners know exactly how long the food has been prepared for and should have perhaps on this occasion on observation disposed of the the food as it was over cooked and looked extremely unattractive, not to mention it tasted terrible and was thrown away. Let’s hope the standards improve in due course!!

The owner of this Fish and Chip shop is in complete control of the place and serves up excellent quality food. The place is hygienically clean, and the staff are very nice and friendly, keeping it professional, quick too. Fish and Chips isn't a cheap meal these days, so you need a chippy that you can trust to supply good quality food, Harborne Fish Bar is definitely that place in my humble opinion.

We've been to Harborne Fish Bar a few times before and always loved it, good quality yummy tasting food. On our last visit there was a change of staff, service was quick and polite but unfortunately the food was nowhere near it's usual quality. Very disappointing.

I’ve been coming to Harborne Fish Bar now for just over a year since i moved to Harborne and it’s always been delicious. The Cypriot couple who own the place and run it are lovely and so are the other staff. Always really chatty and friendly, making me feel a little more included in the community. Over the year I’ve ordered different foods including kebabs, chips, battered sausage, pies and halloumi. They’ve all tasted great and been cooked fresh. They don’t accept cards but the lady who complained about this in another review must be ridiculously lazy as there’s a cash point no more than 10 meters away from the chip shop. I’ll be returning just as I have been over the last year.

We've been buying our chips from here for a while now and recently discovered we can also get lovely fresh fried Haloumi which is seriously good in light batter. Definitely recommend this chip shop for anyone in or around Harborne!

The fish is always fresh and well fried. Apparently it comes fresh from Grimsby every day and it really does taste good. I love the haddock especially. All our family use it on a regular basis.

Fantastic would be an understatement. This is simply the best chippy on earth bar none. I have been here as he is about to close and he has still cooked me a portion of chips. The fish is to die for. Don't deny yourself the pleasures of life visit this place today. If you live miles away eat in the car outside its well well worth it.

Nicely thick cut chips freshly cooked. Decent size portions with choice of small, medium or large. Good location next to local bus routes into the city centre via Harborne high street.

There's a greasy spoon on High Street Harborne (real name: Kings) that is using the harborne fish bar name and domain for their website. Their fish and chips is not nearly as good and they're trading off the good name of the real harborne fish bar, cashing on on their great reputation built up over many years. Don't be fooled by these mean-spirited imposters, this isn't the real restaurant! It was also really annoying because I assumed it was the real fish bar (walking distance) and had to get my car and drive to King's. Shame on them! The real Harborne Fish Bar (Northfield Rd) is much better food - give them a call instead.

The fish is always faultless - perhaps the best of all is the haddock, but the cod is great too. Always very fresh, often cooked to order. Flaky and delicious. Oh, and they are huge portions - enough to share if you can face handing half over! The chips are really nice too. Not the best around because they aren't cooked in beef fat, but still very nice.

Best fish and chips I have had in Birmingham to be honest - the fish is always beautifully fried with crisp batter and flaky white flesh, while the chips, which often let places down, are just as they should be. Your choice isn't limited to fish either and there is plenty more on the menu if you fancy something different but whatever you order, the service is always excellent too. My only word of caution - everyone knows how good this places is, so sometimes you might need to queue! Well worth waiting for though, believe me.

I took my two children to get some takeaway fish and chips when my daughter requested it as her treat for doing well at school.We live nearby so travelling was no problem. It was a Thursday and only 5.30pm so we were among the first in.We were greeted with happy smiles by the lovely couple running the shop.There was a good range of foods and drinks available. I had to add one of their tasty looking sausages to the order.We had a minifish (which would be classed as a full sized fish in most fish and chip shops) which was very tasty - not at all bland - and covered in crispy golden batter than melted with a satisfying crunch in the mouth.The children shared a full sized cod which had more flavour than I remember from a fish shop cod in years and was far more than my 5 year old and 3 year old could eat between them, they had to leave half of it! The sausage was delicious if relatively standard fare, but was obviously not stale.The chips were tasty, crisp on the outside, soft in the middle and all in all, just right for our palates.Since we were eating take-away, that is all there is to tell really. In summary though, pleasant smiley owners and delicious food.Just shy of £10 for a large cod, a large chips, minifish and sausage which would have easily fed four people. As it was there was plenty left over by we three!

Came here on the back of a few good reviews and have to say I was impressed. Everything was cooked fresh and the chips were really light and fluffy. The battered sausage I had was great with a light crispy batter and my girlfriend's plaice was also excellent
