We visited on Sunday for a lovely lunch whilst looking at homes in the area. The roast beef was perfectly cooked and came with plenty of fresh veg. We managed to fit in a pudding which was equally as good! The landlady and staff were all very welcoming and we will definitely be back. There is also plenty of parking which is good.

I booked an accessible table for 3, the restaurant was quiet which didn't bother us as we had plenty to talk about. Matthew, the waiter, was charming and attentive but never intrusive or fussy. we didn't wait long for our meals which were delicious and cooked perfectly. we all had scampi and chips but as I ordered from the lunch menu my small glass of wine only cost £1! Wise choice as I had room for dessert, a healthy and delicious crumble. We shall definitely be back.

Sorry to say our Sunday lunch was not the best. Beef difficult to cut and tough. Yorkshire puddings were not fresh but frozen the Gravy was tasteless, We were really looking forward to this meal but were very disappointed. I hope it improves, the service at the table was good.

We came for a meal and was greated by the lovely old building and the gorgeous open fires roaring. We were seated and drinks bought over swiftly. We ordered soup for starters which came piping hot with fresh bread. Then I had a southern fried chicken burger which was to die for and crumble for desert and partner had steak which came out medium as ordered and looked fab! Staff were excellent all round what a great local pub.

So disappointed at the service we received after saying farewell to my beloved sister. The only reason we came back to have the wake was because we had a lovely Sunday Dinner previously. I will not or any of our family and close friends will ever requent this pub again and their reputation has been damaged. Absolute shambles and lack of empathy for our situation which I cannot forgive.

Saturday night booked table for 6.30 arrived at 6.15 and still hadn't got the main meal 2.5 hours later gave up and left at 9.45 having had only a starter after 1/5 hours which was deep fried chicken strips and which would have taken 5 minutes at most. Terrible service unfortunately. My wife had a similar experience a few weeks ago there with her friend. Pub gave excuses that they only had one chef on - so limit the number of covers instead of upsetting everyone! They were expecting 11 covers but had around 40 but even so 2.5 hours - I could have made the meals in that time. Poor management and poor communication

We visited on bank holiday Thursday lunchtime (Jubilee) first time since the change of ownership here. There were no other customers in the lounge area and there was a sign to say get a table and order at the bar. Different to when we used to come there was a pool or snooker table by the fire in this room which seemed a bit random for the lounge. On going through to the bar to order the lady there did tell us up front there would be quite a wait for food, which was fair enough and we appreciated the honesty. We decided to wait as we wanted to see what the food was like these days, when the food did come it was excellent, we had starters and mains. My husband had the pulled beef burger and said it was one of the best he’s had. It was good value for money, good portion sizes and we were very satisfied and would visit again, I think it was a bit of an odd day this Thurs bank hol so they were probably a bit short staffed not knowing what to expect.

Have visited this pub twice before. Service can be very slow, unless you are lucky enough to get the very positive and friendly waitress with the auburn hair. Food mediocre, chips floppy and anemic looking. Steak and ale pie has a strange bitter taste, quite unlike any steak and ale pie my husband has tasted before. Scampi was ok, very stingy with the peas. Dessert nice but too expensive for the portion size. Restaurant lacks atmosphere. What's with all the mirrors? People don't really want to watch themselves eat!! Pub has alot of potential but at the moment it's unfulfilled.

Visited this pub for a normal lunch as had been previously recommended to us a being great for Sunday dinner, however we were all quite disappointed with the quality of the food. We all had fairly straightforward meals but did not enjoy them, the chips were soggy, floppy and generally inedible, the chicken goujons were overcooked and hard, the "special" pasta dish was served with grated cheddar cheese (no parmesan) & the pate was served with 3 very small dry slices of French toast so I had to ask for more - I would have preferred just normal toast like the menu suggests. Its a shame the food was poor as the pub is really nice and we got a warm welcome from the staff/landlady. I might pop in again one day for drink but will not be dining.

We came into Cromwell Butler by chance looking for a place to eat while en route and what a serendipity experience. The pub has a restaurant and bar and only wanting a quick meal went into the bar, it being a Sunday we were told that 'we don't do bar meals on Sunday because of the restaurant trade. But I can rustle up a beef samdwich.' In double quick time we were presented with well filled sandwiches, chips and salad of excellent quality and value for money. If the restaurant is of similar quality its well worth a visit. In addition the landlord had a good choice of guest ales and was happy to give an opinion to suit your taste

My partner liked the firemens calendar in the ladies toilet. We had the chiili and a pie of the day (lamb) both were very tasty indeed and made from some nice meat. Nice and hot as well. Friendly and polite waitress, nice beer. On our Sunday Lunch tour of local eateries, this was plucked out of the bag this week. A very warm welcome as soon as we arrived, from mine hosts. Friendly, welcoming atmosphere and decor was noted. An oak table near the window had been reserved for us, the background music turned down and the clear menus handed to us whilst drinks orders were taken. It was good to see that child sized portions of all dishes was available. The substantial portions of roast beef, Turkey or gammon came with a good dollop of creamy mashed potato, three crisp roasties, a roast parsnip and Yorkshire pudding. Plentiful vegetables in four varieties, together with a large gravy boat completed the repast. We could not fault the quality or quantity. Our charming and cheerful hostess then offered the Pudding menu, informing us that today's special was Strawberry Shortcake Stack, which was duly sampled and appreciated. An enjoyable experience in a village pub, with plenty of room to move. I didn't see a Disabled ♿ toilet, and the ladies would have needed some negotiating with walking aids. That apart, definitely one to visit again.

After personal recommendations and good comments on Trip Advisor today 7th August we decided to give it a try. Our first visit, and the last!On arrival there were 2 people in the bar and 3 at a table in the dining room. The pub itself is beautifully kitted out, splendid dining room, lovely loos, cosy bar and spacious outdoor seating! Sizeable car park. Were were served with drinks and given menus by the waitress...and it took 20 minutes before she came back to take our food order. It was clear that she was the only one waiting on...and she was serving in the bar too. It took a further 25 minutes before our food arrived. My husband ordered scampi and chips and I the ploughmans. The chips were overcooked and dry, he ate a few and left the rest, and he had 6 pieces if scampi on his plate. He said the scampi was tasty. The bread that came with my ploughmans was as hard as a brick and had to be sent back. No bread..when, nearly 15 minutes later, I was brought more bread it was a pre baked baguette/ "bake it in the oven for 10 minutes", and it was white, hot and undercooked! However, the fish and chips that were served to the 3 people nearby looked fresh and hot.

I've been here quite a few times now and its always been top notch food in my book. This time around I came with friends and they never been here before and I know they loved the food.Arriving here the staff are very pleasant and made you feel welcome which is nice and makes customers want to come back. We arrived just before it started getting more busy, the food came out within 15mins and I thought it looked small when coming to our table, I was wrong the rest of the food ie vegetables came in bowls and plenty of it, so I was very happy. All the food was cooked perfectly and presented to a very high standard. The staff are so good running around serving us and they do a really good job and they should be happy with themselves for the work/job they do, also two nice owners that do a very good job bring us back to have more nice food.Staff came around once to check if everything was OK and let us carry on with our meal (I don't like staff if they come around to many times to see if everything is OK)The plough is really nice in a nice village and inside is clean. This is the first time, we’ve visited The Plough despite only living 3 miles away and we went following a series of good reviews on Trip advisor. The food was really good - tasty and good portions with good friendly service with the restaurant being very nice as was the bar when we went thru to for a drink afterwards (Ian was very welcoming)The only minor comment is the presentation, my wife had the Mushroom pot (which was lovely) but this was presented just in a pot alone and would have looked better in the pot on a rectangle plate with a chunk of bread and some butter - likewise my soup (again lovely)This is a very minor point and we have a great evening and will undoubtedly visit again both with our friends, family and our dog (to eat in the bar which allows dogs with the same excellent menuThanks for a lovely night out

Yesterday 15 of us sat down to a Christmas lunch and we all agreed that it was excellent in every way. To add to the quality of the food all of the cask beers were in faultess condition. Despite there being another similarly sized party in the pub the service was exemplary , quick with everything done efficiently yet in a pleasant and friendly way. All this at a very modest price.

My wife and I found this pub/ restaurant by accident. We called in for a "pit-stop" with a walking group at lunchtime. The beer was excellent and the menu looked good - standard menu and blackboard specials. We decided to return for a meal the following evening and were not disappointed. We decided to eat in the pub side rather than the restaurant as it was "early doors". The atmosphere was great. Friendly landlord/lady and locals, with a welcoming log fire. The service was spot on and the food was well presented, tasty, good portions and nicely presented. I had the belly pork with perfectly cooked ribbon vegetables and dauphinoise potatoes. My wife had chicken linguini and was asked what other ingredients she preferred with it. She loved it.I would certainly recommend the Plough for both it's beer and food. In fact my daughter and her husband have since had a meal there on our recommendation and were suitably impressed.

We have been here quite a few times over the years but not recently. We called in here for our mid-week dinner last night. It's very popular with the locals - the sort of place we would like within walking distance of our home - and as said in other reviews the owner is very welcoming. We had a mains fish sharing platter for two which was really delicious and as we are not keen on calamari swapped it for other fish. My husband finished off with chocolate and toffee torte and ice cream which disappeared within minutes (I had two spoons - yummy). We will definitely be back and now that these guys have taken over The Chesterfield in Bingham we will be trying it out there soon.

We arrived at the traditional village pub with a very warm welcome from the owners, whilst there appeared to be a lot of regulars we where made to feel like old friends. The food was perfect for mid week and a good price, around £8 for 'homemade' chips, juicy gammon and all the trimmings (its years since I'd had gammon, egg and chips), well worth a visitChris

Extremely dissapointed, went in for sunday dinner, the starters looked as if it had been thrown on a plate with what i assume was supposed to be a side salad, overall not bad in taste but rather unsightful.the main... quick service, very large portions, beef of an ok quality, horiible lumpy mash, roasties sodden in oil. Not impressed... then to top it off, we had an extremely long haired dog sat begging at the table. needless to say at this point we put down our knife and fork and politely asked for the bill declining the dessert menuthis place has dramatically gone down his from a few years ago.

Booked table for 7:30pm. Gave up waiting for main course to arrive at 9:10pm. 2 cold and 1 hot starter took over an hour to arrive. 1st couple of times we went the food/service was perfect, happy to spend over £80 each visit. Don't know if owner/chef left but service VERY poor. Staff un-prepared. 3 different servers, repeating same questions. When asked when food was coming told 'Sorry, 2nd Chef rang in ill' - tell me before I waste the evening and I could rebook, Not impressed. Won't be returning.

We booked a table for 3 on Father's Day. The staff are helpful and the food and service were good. We had 2 soup of the days 1 pate 2 beef dinners 1 turkey dinner and 3 apple pies. The food was well cooked well presented and tasted good. We had a couple of drinks each and had an enjoyable couple of hours . Very good value the bill was just over £50 which I felt was very good for the food we had. Wel go again for an evening meal and try some of the other dishes.

I was expecting more - which is probably where I went wrong. I booked thinking The Plough was at the higher end of pub eating. It isn't. The staff are friendly and helpful but not well organised. We were served by three different people. Consequently we had to ask for our menus, were asked if we were ready to order two minutes later and were asked for the dessert order twice. The food was okay, but the prawn cocktail and fish platter were both spoiled for me by vinegary mayo. This is the kind of pub I would happily stop off at if I was passing, but wouldn't bother booking again.

Had to write a review about the fantastic weekend we had - local pub, great food always something for the kids on a Bank Holiday, Easter Egg hunt, free face painting, free bouncy castle, space hoppers, games! Oh and a delicious food that was quick, fresh and so tasty!Always a warm welcome from Ian and Val and staff and we highly recommend. My husband is especially a fan of the real ales they always have on and are forever alternating.Beautiful country pub and well worth a visit.

Booked a table for 1pm on Saturday and food finally arrived at 2.25pm after chasing 3 times. Were not told on arrival that there was only one chef working. Other tables also heard grumbling about timing and consequent quality of the food.No bread for the table offered to keep us going and nothing taken off the bill - felt we were held hostage just for a lunch - a great disappointment and certainly not worth the wait. Clearly will not be returning Cropwell Butler in a rush.Felt sorry for the staff clearly not trained to handle the situation.

Dropping in for Sunday lunch was an absolute joy from start to finish. This is a genuine village pub that clearly prides itself on friendly service and very good value home cooked food. Val and Ian are natural hosts and welcomed our young son warmly. The traditional Sunday roast was just as it should be whilst the St.Austell Tribute was in excellent condition. The cosy bar, attractive lounge/ dining room and pretty garden are all welcoming environments. Cropwell Butler is lucky to have such a proper village pub.

We called in on the advice of the Good Pub Guide & were made so welcome. It was warm & inviting with a great menu. Our 2 year old & our large dog were all made very welcome & the food was really tasty. Despite there being a 'local' feel there was a great welcome & the service was excellent.

Went there for a surprise family meal for 28 of us and cannot fault anything. The friendliness of the owners and staff was first class and the food was delicious. Was able to relax with the family while being looked after and the service was second to none.Would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting to relax and enjoy a good meal.

A relatively new find for us, but so pleased to have found it. Fabulous area outside with pods meaning you can enjoy the outside even when the weather is not so good. Good choice of beers, and a great menu with sensible prices. Table service with attentive staff too. Highly recommended.

A real surprise didn’t seem like much from the outside but soon has you come in it’s like a funky surprise a very layed back place very clean but check the menu out a great selection on offer plus some if you’re a real ale person or fancy a beer they seem to have a good range on draft but yes a really chilled out place while waiting for the train much reasonable prices than star bucks or costa bomb buy nice service also .

We were sat next to an air conditioner that was blowing out freezing cold air. We asked if this could be turned off as it was so cold & the waitress rudely said no as it would get too hot and that she would bring a rug to put over it. Suffice to say that never appeared so had to put my coat over my legs & put 2 cocktail menus over the top of the air conditioner. There is limited choice on the menu unless you like chips and anything with sweet chilli or creamy sauces. I had an open sandwich with fillet steak pieces in Gorgonzola sauce. The sauce was so overpowering it was sickly. I like Gorgonzola but this was awful. One of our party did not get their food & we had to ask where it was. Apparently there was a mix up in the kitchen & he had to wait about 15 mins for it to be served but did get a free drink as a goodwill gesture. The food is overpriced for what you get and the service was extremely slow. We were there for 3 hours for just 2 courses. We definitely will not be returning to any of their establishments in the group. There were many other things like the very greasy onion rings & the really chewy halloumi sticks and that the yakatori sticks are mostly made up of onion.

Had a buffet here for my mum's wake as it was so convenient for Wilford Hill. Can't praise them enough as everything was so great and they made us very welcome. My friend took some photos and ornaments the day before and they were happy to arrange them in the function area for us. They really helped make a difficult day very easy. Thankyou so much.

A proper drinkers pub. Good selection of draught lagers and a few real ales on pump.
