Called into the plough today on the off chance for some lunch, we both ordered the sunday dinner, I had the beef and my daughter had the pork, it was the best sunday lunch I have had at a pub in a long time, the portions were large, I couldn't eat it all, the service was good, didn't have to wait long, the staff were friendly, couldn't recommend it more.

Decent traditional pub near the canal. I was walking and needed a break. Just had a lunchtime pint and soup with a sourdough Demi-baguette, but it was good.

My mother, our dog and myself visited today. Staff were attentive and very friendly, wanted to make sure everything was right for us. We started with cocktails which were lovely. Then I had the chicken wings which were 10/10, mother had the mozzarella sticks which were nice. I had the veggi sausage & mash dish which was gorgeous and mum loved her mushroom and tarragon pudding, unfortunately they didn’t have the sautéed potato’s but they were happy to swap these out for chips for her. So nice to see somewhere have more options than just a bean burger for vegetarians! Really delicious options as well. Nice outdoor seating in the sunshine, clean toilets and a nice walk along the canal for after. Would visit again definitely recommend! :)

Went on a Monday at 13-00 hrs. Service and food was overall was good. The locals were very friendly. My wife had a burger and chips which she thought was very good. I had the gammon which was good. Chips were frozen, these were slightly tough not slightly crispy with a soft centre. We would use this pub again if we were passing.

The staff were great, but compared to how this pub used to be, it is a real shame. Menu and food a complete let down, although served hot, it was just frozen mediocre food. Shame because it was always busy and had an atmosphere, but sadly that has gone, but at fault of the staff.

The people in the plough where very nice. The food on the other hand couldn't be more opposite. We both had lasagne as recommended by the chef. It was awful, it didn't taste homemade at all, maybe put together at home from jars, then frozen for some time after being microwaved then served to us. When they took are full plates away and asked if it was OK, my reply being, "not something I would be proud of", I then herd him relaying the message back to the chef and manager who just laughed and ignored him. We just left in embarrassment for them. It's a shame as this pub is in an ideal place and could be an outstanding place.

Came here for a birthday dinner. The staff were some of the kindest and most helpful people I have ever met in my life. The food was also incredible (I had the Sunday roast beef and the strawberry meringue cheesecake) and service was incredibly fast. The vibes are also peak, it really gives off cute local pub energy. Would totally come back again.

Incredible memories of eating here as a student and 8 years on the place is still performing so so well meeting my rose tinted expectations (in fact in many ways beating them)The Godfather burger remains an unbelievably enjoyable experience. Such great value. Really juicy and succulent beef patties with thick (and I mean thick) cut bacon and what feels like inches of melted cheese. The fries are crispy on the outside and soft in the middle (personally still prefer the thick cut chips which my partner had with her lasagna though)Service is great and they have a good and robust system for covid. Overall a fantastic meal out.

Booked a table for 5.15pm inside with the proviso that if it was nice we would sit outside which it was and we did. We did the covid things and then ordered using the app. Everything eventually arrived but as it was busy we expected to wait and we did. The food as always was delicious and there was only one slight error over someone's chips which was put right without a problem. Top marks and we'll be going again.

We arrived at 5 30 having booked for 6pm, delighted to get a table on Fathers Day. We saw the signs about an hours wait for food which wasnt too much of an issue and apparently neither was the fact we had arrived early. We waited30 minutes for our first set of drinks so we ordered a second set via the app immediately, but these too also took another 30 minutes After 1 hour 30 I asked about the food and was apologised to and we were 'next out'. After another 30 minutes ( and other various meals, being served), we got up to leave just as our food arrived, having been told it had been 'moved up the orders'. Bizarre as there were numerous empty tables, it was just very badly organised. There was an offer of a free drink at the 2 hour point, but the young female staff really didn't seem to care, it was the young male who was the most apologetic. Food was ok but sadly wouldn't return or recommend.

Lovely pub, nice helpful staff. Lovely beer garden. We’d just moved house and needed a full belly. Got a nice table and ordered 3 ‘swords’ at 7pm. There was only two other people in the restaurant when we ordered. An hour later, after chasing the food, we were told the swords take 45 minutes to cook. (I’m not sure how as the steak is medium rare and the halloumi is grilled ? ) But anyway, an hour later they arrive, impressive to look at, lovely coleslaw, flat bread and spicy chips. But… and here’s the big shame. Everything was stone cold. Cold steak, cold mushrooms, cold sausage, cold chicken and cold halloumi. We were starving and we couldnt wait any longer so we ate the cold food. We did mention it and the friendly waitress apologised and offered us a free dessert. I’d rather have had a hot £95 main meal… Shame as everything else was on point.

I have heard brilliant things and the photos posted by the pub looked really good, We attend the pub on Father’s Day and was expecting it to be busy. We where greeted by a sign saying there was an hour wait for food which we didn’t mind. We sat down and looked at the menu then ordered, There food coming out looked really nice and seemed to be a steady flow. We waited around 45 mins and then a waitress came over to offer us a round of drinks on the house due to our wait, We hadn’t complained or said anything and we did say that there was no issue with the wait. Then we noticed people walking up to the bar with food in there hands and then it being taken back to the kitchen. There was a frozen apple pie and a burger. We waited a little longer and then our food arrived 1 1/2 after we ordered, I ordered a chicken, ham and leak pie which arrived with gravy over the top of it, Then I noticed the black tinge to the outside of the pastry and yes it was burnt,. They had put the gravy on to mask it badly. The others seemed to enjoy there meals and it was a shame. Maybe it was down to how busy they where, We will try again soon hopefully.

Nope Sorry ; we have been spoilt with too many good restaurants where we set our bench marking.Eg - Leandras Plymouth and St Elizabeth’s House also of Plymouth.

At the end of our holiday we decided to pull off the M6 for dinner to break up a long journey.Unfortunately after some lovely meals in Scotland this meal was somewhere between average and poor.A real shame as its a lovely setting but clearly the food leaves a lot to be desired. The childrens fish and chips was alright but like warm, the childrens mac and cheese was in a white sauce but it was difficult to taste or see and cheese. The bacon burger was hot but felt stingy in size and very well done, thrown onto a bun with some very crispy bacon and a tiny bit of burnt cheese. And the chicken burger was cold for which we got a refund. We were warned the wait was up to an hour and as described after 55 minutes we received our disappointing meal.

This was the second time myself and my daughter visited the plough recently for Sunday dinner The first visit the food was lovely and I was told by a member of staff they had run out of roast potatoes but they could replace with chips which I was happy with they had also run out of Yorkshire pudding which I thought we were booked in at 6pm maybe they had just been very busy and that's why they had run outThe next time I booked I booked in earlier 5pm thinking they won't of run out of anythingI ordered Lamb which comes with Yorkshire pudding and mint sauce My food was brought out I had thin slices of meat which was tasteless to be honest I wasn't sure if it was lamb or beef There was no Yorkshire pudding and no mint sauce. I asked the young girl that took my order what my meal was and there was no Yorkshire pudding and mint sauce she went off to ask the young lad that brought my food to me they had a discussion round the other side of the bar and the manager came over and told me abruptly that my meal was lamb brisket and dissapearedI mentioned the items missing when I paid for my meal and was told we had run out of Yorkshire puddings and you should of asked for sauce I'm very disappointed in the managers attitude and the way I was spoken toI was never offered a discount or given an apologyI won't be visiting the plough again

The staff even allowed us to bring our own custom-made birthday cake which we spirited away into the kitchen on arrival. The waiting staff all appeared at the end of the meal with the cake and sang happy birthday to my Mum, which was brilliant, especially when they were so busy. Since starting to do takeaway meals we have been ordering food twice a week including Sunday Lunch. My wife and daughter are both vegetarians and the nut roast is one of the best they have had. I usually have the roast chicken and that is also very good. There is plenty of vegetables and the portions considering they are takeaway are the same size as you would get if sitting in the restaurant.I have had the Chicken and Ham pie, Fish and chips during the week and the quality of food is what I alwys expect when eating in the Plough. I am a regular visitor there when the Pub is open and always had a good meal there. The chicken and Ham pie is packed full of meat and not like some pies I have had elsewhere where the pie of all pastry and little filling. The cheese and onion pie is also excellent which they have now added to their takeaway menu. The price is also excellent for the amount and standard of food. The service is outstanding a phone call for the order and pay by card and very thorough on the Covid-19 guidelines on hygiene and social distancing when collecting your orderHence the 5* excellent review

What an amazing find! Recommended to go by a friend as food was delicious so thought we’d try it. So glad we did! The welcome was so warm and genuine and as we’d booked the waitress actually knew who we were! Seated in a lovely area next to an open fire which was glowing lovely. Didn’t realise there were specials as the young waitress never mentioned them and we did have to ask whether there was a Sunday roast on. There was a large specials board by the bar, but we didn’t notice it until we were leaving. Would be nice to know when seatedThe menu was pretty extensive. I saw loads of things I quite fancied but went for the House Stroganoff which was so delicious! We ordered at the bar but were allowed to keep a tab so we could order more drinks and pay at the end. Husband ordered Lamb Shank and Mum had the Beef Stroganoff - I had the Mushroom Stroganoff. Great as you can order half and half chips/riceWe saw one table receive the Sunday Roast Beef with GINORMOUS Yorkshire PuddingsWithin what seemed like no time at all, all our meals came piping hot and looked amazing!!! The service was so, so friendly, it really makes such a difference when you visit a new place as you genuinely feel welcome. The portion sizes, as has been mentioned on previous comments, were pretty substantial and I couldn’t manage the whole amount of mine. In future I’d ask for a smaller, half portion if possible. On the tables were feedback forms asking for your views and on the form it clearly said if you’re not happy with something to please speak to the manager. This place genuinely wants to please and you can see that from the attitude of the staffWhen we’d finished I spoke to the chef and thanked her for the most delicious food. She said she was also the manager so I told her we’d definitely come back. Again, she seemed genuinely pleasedDiscovered dogs are allowed tooDefinitely recommend

I’d been told the food was excellent so I tried it. Got the ribs and won’t be going back. I think they had been microwaved? Dry, tough A real let down. The puddings definitely had been over microwaved because they were cemented onto the bottom of the plate and nuclear hot. The condiments were cheap and sickly, including the BBQ sauce. The meals are not cheap either - £14 for bad ribs and no onion rings included so non-standard for the meal compared to most restaurants - found them inedible so left them which is too much to spend on bad food. Sitting by the fire was nice though, it’s cosy. So I’d recommend drinks only. Overall the menu is presented nicely and appears of good quality but the reality is it’s the same rubbish and prices as it used to be but decorated differently. Meals more like the 2 for £10 you’d get in Wetherspoons but not as tasty. And I am not a fan of Wetherspoons, so the Plough was a dreadful disappointment. If the food was good the money doesn’t matter but £40 to still be hungry is appalling. Go into town to butcher and tonic. Similar menu and prices but the food is top quality. Or, the Fleece, the barn, and Holly inn/farm are not far.

Myself and a few friends visited the Plough to enjoy a meal and watch the cricket World Cup final. The food was delicious and was brought swiftly and served with a smile by the waiting on staff. After we had finished our food, the manager (short blonde hair, with an Eastern European accent, her name is Laura) decided to turn the television off whilst we were enjoying the live sport. This was for no apparent reason whatsoever and was carried out in a rude and abrupt manner. Looking at previous reviews, this is not the first time that this lady has behaved in an abhorrent way towards her paying customers. What also struck me is the disgusting way in which she spoke to her staff. One of the bar staff dropped a glass, the manager Laura publicly grilled the poor girl and shamed her in front of the whole restaurant area. Many of my friends have been regular customers here up until now. They no longer want to support this establishment whilst being made to feel like prisoners. I would like to reiterate that the food was lovely and the rest of the staff were exceptional. There was only one problem.

We went to The Plough this afternoon with a view to using our Tastecard for a few drinks and a bite to eat. We have been numerous times without any problems and have always just turned up. As normal, we advised when ordering that we would like to use our tastecard. The polite and friendly young staff member advised us that unfortunately they’d recently changed the policy in that we had to book a table to use the Tastecard.

We were traveling north staying at Lancaster services Travel Lodge, nothing appealing to eat there so asked for ideas as to where we could get a decent meal, we were given a list (excellent customer service) on which was the Plough. Turned out to be a really good choice overall. Typical pub with excellent food on offer. Sirloin for my wife, Ribeye for myself, delicious. When we next travel north and stop overnight we know where to go.

7 of us spent the week on the Lancaster canal, and it was very enjoyable. We visited a few pubs but without any hesitation this was the best. The atmosphere was brilliant. The staff were very helpful and friendly, nothing too much bother. The pub was clean, bright and tidy, as was the loos. Our food was excellent and very well presented. And something I have never seen anywhere before, but so simple to do, was the garden tables, ordinary bench tables for outside use but they were painted, looked absolutely fantastic, along with the very well kept garden. If we didn't live so far away we would definitely go back again. Tried adding a photo but couldn't do it.

I popped into the plough on main road in Lancaster (Uk) for a quick pint of beer. The table in front of me were dining on what looked the the biggest tastiest burgers I've ever seen. Other dishes were at the table and looked equally as delicious!! Especially the roast beef and Yorkshire puddings. I'm looking forward to going back with my wife and kid's. I saw rainbow cake and chocolate cake at the bar that looked Devine! Would I recommend people visit?? That would be a massive YES!

Driven past this pub for many years and finally got round to calling in for a meal, and glad we did. On a lovely sunny evening we sat outside and enjoyed the gardens and eating al fresco. It was a busy Saturday afternoon and the wait for food was more than expected but the staff were apologetic and to be honest the quality and quantity of food made up for it. We all enjoyed our meals and I can recommend the Cumberland sausage, smooth mash and the best gravy I have ever had. Inside the pub is quite small with just one main room for dining so I would imagine you need to be early on days where you can’t sit outside as it will no doubt fill up very quickly. Wainwright ale which is always a bonus with me, will be back soon.

Food all looked nice enough in my large group when we choose here for tea. My vegan option of falafel pattie with vegan and cheese arrived I could have cried. No effort what so ever. You don't pile vegan cheese on top of an over cooked burger like that. Some iceburge lettuce and a tomato and that was it. It apparently had a Jam with it but that never showed. I took off the dry looking cheese covered it in tomato sauce and ate it because I was starving. Its a shame really but whoever made this thought nothing of the ingredients going together. At £10.50 I will not be rushing back.

We often eat here as we have never had a bad experience with staff or the food. It was my mums birthday today and made a last minute decision we would go out and booked the plough. 3 sirloin steaks on order all cooked perfectly and very tasty with plenty of chips and sides. My Nan and her husband both had the garlic mushrooms which are absolutely beautiful so full of flavour the sauce is perfect and had the cheese and onion pie, all delicious and tasty . Left full and very happy . Would highly recommend dining here, we will be coming back again soon

Stayed for lunch with wife and grand-daughter who was recommended pub by fellow students at Lancaster University. Menu was good, food was fresh, hot and large portions. Beer was good. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Our grand-daughter has a coeliac problem and needs a gluten-free diet. The Plough has a good gluten-free menu. Our Grand-daughter said that the food was of good quality and the menu varied. Suggest make a reservation as this is a busy place.

We enjoyed our meals immensely, I had a huge fish with mushy peas, I would have preferred the option of garden peas. The chips were excellent and beautifully cooked:.However the meal was freshly cooked and well presented . My husband had a steak pudding which was rich and meaty and also delicious. The only drawback was a couple of rather loud foul mouthed men who were at the bar. It was early on a Friday evening.

7 of us in our group and we arrived early (1 hour) for our booked table. The staff did everything possible to accomodate us. Table was ready 20 mins later. We all had a delicious Sunday lunch followed by amazing puddings. The beef was so good (and I'm very fussy). The atmosphere was lovely. We will be back very soon.

My wife and my self visited this pub for a lunch on a Saturday. We placed our order and paid for the two meals before they was served. After a twenty five minutes wait my wife’s meal was served. Some five minutes later my meal arrived. I chose a pasta dish and I added chicken. The meal was covered with salad (not indicated on the menu) this salad was mostly diced cucumber. Cucumber does not agree with me and makes me feel unwell. It was in the sauce. Under the chicken. Mixed in the pasta. I removed as much as I could before starting but the dish had taken on the flavour. I did say that this was a awful dish and not very nice at all. The waiter did offer to exchange but my wife had finished her lunch and we was not going to wait a further thirty minutes. There was no indication of any compensation. I feel that paying for a meal up front is not correct as once they have your money, you become a nuisance if you are not happy with your meal. I will never go to this pub again as the whole experience as extremely disappointing

Me and my partner came here for some Easter Monday dinner, the food was really really good and definitely worth the money. It’s slightly more expensive than standard pub grub but the quality of food being served deserves the price tag. The lamb was cooked beautifully and my partner said his burger was spot on. Really good selection of alcoholic drinks too, and the staff were polite. We would definitely return :)

Stopped here for lunch on the way to our holiday and having seen the reviews we were expecting better to be honest. Don’t get me wrong, the staff are all very helpful and friendly, but several things that would put us off returning. The first thing that hit us was that the restaurant felt very cold and both my wife and I could clearly smell pub toilets/cleaning product from our seats in the bar area which was very off putting. Elements of the food were quite nice, chips in particular were very nice, but the burgers for £12.95 were unbelievably poor value, as described in other reviews that I’d missed but would have definitely avoided had I read, the burger is literally a frozen patty like you get from a burger stand at an event and about the same quality. It wasn’t horrible but at £13 for a burger you expect it to be a fresh patty. Some of the other food may have been better and the children quite enjoyed there’s, but the burgers really were very overpriced.

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE FROM START TO FINISH. BOOKED A TABLE, ONLY TO GET THERE TO FIND THEY HAD SAT ANOTHER PARTY THERE. THEN LANDLADY SAT OUR PARTY OF 9 AT A BADLY LIT,COLD UNINVITING TABLE. SHE EVEN COMMENTED HERSELF HOW BAD IT WAS! NO APOLOGY, NOTHING! THEN NEARLY TWO HOURS FOR A LUKE WARM MEAL ONE OF WHICH MY HUSBAND FETCHED FROM THE KITCHEN HIMSELF AFTER THE FORTH TIME OF ASKING.MOST OF THE MEALS WERE INEDIBLE. ALMOST AS MUCH FOOD WENT BACK AS WAS EATEN ANY DON’T GET ME STARTED ON THE SERVICE WHICH WAS NON EXISTENT. WHAT TURNED OUT TO BE THE LANDLORD ENDED UP SERVING OUR PARTYS MEALS IN WHAT CAN ONLY BE DESCRIBED AS WORKMAN STAINED CLOTHING! WON’T BE RETURNING AND WOULD NOT RECOMMEND EVEN FOR A DRINK!

2 and a half hours waiting for a kebab and some chips, not really acceptable when the driver was "on his way" a half hour ago according to the takeaway. real shame used to be quite a good takeaway but I won't be going back.

Went for a toasted sandwich, it was burnt on one side, and not toasted on the other. I gave the chap the money, which was over the amount, and had to ask for the change. The sandwich was just squeezed into the box, no serviettes or anything. I haven't been to Diggles for a long time, for the same reason. It hasn't improved at all.
