Excellent pizza and desserts, really good menu and specials, light and airy and friendly service. I drunkenly wrote a review for the Plough on TripAdvisor about 10 years ago, stating they serve the best pizza I've ever had in the UK which was a pretty bold statement, however the pizza is very very good, with quality ingredients and beautifully cooked.

My review has changed due to the poor service experienced in October 2024. It's a shame as when we came last year and it was a lovely experience. It seems they have employed young staff who don't seem to want to be there and don't make you feel welcome. They really don't cater for children either as no paper or colouring pencils were offered. All they have are signs saying all children must stay seated. If that doesn't spell, we don't want kids here, I don't know what does. As we came in our table was not ready and had to wait. We were then not given any menus and had to look online ourselves. After waiting for an hour to be served, the waitress refused to take our food order at the same time as our drinks order. I've never not been able to do this at any pubs. This place has really gone downhill and we won't be returning.

What can I say? So far my favorite place for a Sunday roast has always been The Bristol Bar in Kemptown (which is always exceptional). So what a delight to find this place in Pyecombe. Me and my girlfriend came here today for a Sunday roast. What a lovely pub. And the amazing staff (big shout out to the wonderful Alyssia who was just delightful and very friendly). The lamb roast was delicious. Pretty much every thing was perfect. I would 100% recommend this place and we will definitely be going back for more. 10/10 for everything and a huge thank you to the wonderful staff.

Took our friends here whilst they were visiting from out of town. Unfortunately the food was average and the service was non existent. On arrival it felt like we were forgotten about. We did not get given menus and had to ask after waiting for 10 minutes. Tables arriving after us were served first. We waited over an hour for our mains. Roast came with 2 tiny carrots and the cauliflower cheese was awful. Beef and roasties were ok. Not once did we get an update or have an apology for delay. Got given half of a portion of a side and they attempted to charge full amount - only when questioned did it get adjusted on the final bill. Unfortunately we will not be returning.

I am absolutely furious with the experience we had today at The Plough. My friends and I came in excited for a roast, but what we got was a complete disaster. When we arrived, it was busy, and we were seated at a table that was clearly too small for four people. We couldn’t even sit comfortably without bumping into each other, so we asked to be moved. They accommodated us by moving us to a table in the corner, but apparently that meant forgetting about us entirely. We sat there for ages without menus while watching another family get seated, handed menus, and have their drinks order taken immediately. Fine, we thought, we'll wait. But after 15 more minutes, it was clear we had been completely overlooked. We had to ask for the menus and only then did they take our drinks order. Finally, the drinks came, and we placed our order, only to be told they were out of most of what we wanted, including cauliflower cheese. There was just one portion of pigs in blankets left, and we settled for that. As if the slow service wasn’t bad enough, we then watched the family next to us get served all their food before we had received our starters! By this time, we were starving since it was already past 3 PM, and we hadn’t eaten much all day. The starters were pretty decent, and they cleared our plates, but then we were left waiting for another hour for the mains. When we finally asked if our food was coming, the waitress acted completely flustered, muttering a weak “yes” before disappearing. Another 15 minutes passed without any explanation or apology for the delay. Clearly, we had been forgotten again. When the food finally arrived, the steak came with a congealed sauce that had obviously been sitting out for far too long. Then, the roasts came with the most b-tech, watery, sad excuse for cauliflower cheese, which was ironic since we were originally told they didn’t have any. The pigs in blankets? Two sad little sausages on an abnormally large plate when we were expecting three. We asked the waitress about this, and she lazily admitted that “there usually are three” before walking off with them, only to come back and tell us there were no more left. We had to haggle the price down for this! At this point, we just wanted to eat, so we dug in. I asked for four portions of cranberry sauce and got one. By the time I could’ve asked for more, I was too hungry and had already eaten most of my meal. The food itself was atrociously whelming. Not bad, but certainly not great. The beef was alright, the Yorkshire was fine, and my two potatoes were decent. But the size of the two chunks of carrots were laughable. A broccoli stem that was nearly impossible to cut with the dull knives we were given. Trying to cut into it sent my cauliflower cheese flying onto the floor, and thus ended up with gravy all over my shorts. When we received the bill they tried to charge us for the full portion of pigs in blankets. Overall, the entire experience was nothing short of disappointing, and I left feeling absolutely frustrated. This level of service and food quality is unacceptable. I will not be returning.

Went for a Sunday roast .. decided to have nachos to start whilst eatting the nachos which we had only been given 5 mins prior .. our roasts turned up which is obviously frustrating. Roast beef was extremely chewy! After we finished eating we was waiting and waiting nothing so I took myself up to the bar to settle the bill. Once I had paid I looked at the receipt and noticed I have been charged a service fee ? Without the choice I wouldn’t normally mind however the service just wasn’t there. Arrived at the pub lovely looking pub with a friend service was good food. Very disappointing. Lamb shank clearly a boil in the bag lamb shank. I ordered the spicy prawns a chef myself. Was surprised to find that the prawns still had the shells on it, pasta undercoat the sauce was basically cream and what can only describe as ketchup. Meant to be spicy. Tasteless. No seasoning really need to think about there approach to serving good food never to return.

Once again there was wonderful food and attentive, knowledgeable, polite service. Atmosphere is what you would expect from a bar restaurant, lively, but friendly. We opted for the Spicy Penne+Prawns, Seabass, Lamb Shank and Curry Risotto. All four of us agreed our meals were delicious. £116 inc service for the mains plus a round of drinks.

Nice food generally, but the ice-cream I ordered had a gritty texture so was either not made properly or kept at inconsistent temperature. Service wasn't overly attentive either but maybe the large birthday party taking up about six other tables at the time could account for that. So, OK but not five stars. We decided to go here at short notice and they reserved a lovely table in the corner for us. The chefs made sure our requests for food were met (gravy in a pot for the littlen & extra roasties instead of tonnes of veg) the veg was a little on the harder side, potato's were lovely and so was the pork belly & yorkies. The service was intermitted and slow but they had some very loud parties of people in there which dampend the amphosphre for us personally, we couldn't really have a conversation together without raising our voices, (this is not the pubs fault). The desserts were delicious. It was worth the wait in terms of ordering them, once ordered everything came nice and quickly and it was just delicious. (Banoffee pie & brownie). The ice cream.was probably up there with one of the best we've had to be fair. I personally would not go back purely because of how loud it was & having daughter who struggles in very loud enviourments.. the staff was friendly and smiley & it was an okay roast. But the price was High in total for 1 kids roast, 2 adult roast 3 puds & 3 drinks. We paid a total of £95. So I would of preferred to have a quiter, calmer experince with fast front of house service.

The Plough was recommended to us so we thought we’d give it a try….it was excellent to say the least! All of the food was very tasty, well present and arrived promptly (my only very minor gripe was the cream on the brownie tasted like squirty canned cream so wasn’t for me). What has made the whole experience stand out for us was the service; the staff were just superb. Glasses didn’t run dry and no sooner than the baby had thrown something on the floor they were there picking it up before we could….even bringing over some hot water to wash his dummy when that got launched!! The level of service and attentiveness from the staff has certainly increased the overall dining experience for us and needless to say we look forward to a return visit! So we had to check it out 🤌🏽 We ordered the broccoli soup of the day, which came piping hot and with a generous amount of bread 🥖 and butter 🧈. Perfect for a winter warmer. 🧣🧤 Bangers and mash was really well presented. Loved how they mixed the peas in with the gravy evenly across the dish with the mash and sausages in an island in the middle. Visually quite exciting, if you could describe it as such 😂 Defo wanna come back.

We arrived from the South Downs Way in muddy boots and with a dog. Signs told us - no dogs inside and take off your muddy boots. We opted to sit in the rear garden (more signs about dress code) but then they initially wouldn't serve food outside. After some persuasion they said they would. More signs inside the loos - blue paper, white paper, sprays etc. So, atmosphere not exactly welcoming. However, the beer was kept beautifully, the food was served promptly (from a wide menu), and was excellent, great presentation, hot, fresh etc. Not crowded when we went (Wednesday lunch time). The garden area is huge, with parasols against rain and sun.

Came here for lunch as it's midway between myself and family. Easy to find, but found almost no car parking and the spaces that arena the tiny car park are more suited to a motorbike...good luck if you have anything like an SUV.. anyway we would have sat outside as it was a lovely day, however the very loud roar of traffic from the A23 put us off that idea. Seated quickly but even though the place was empty service took ages, meal was ok..but for 4 adult meals (burgers) and 1 child and 4 deserts and 9 non alcoholic drinks the bill came to over £160.. have been there now, not overly impressed won't bother again..

There were two guys serving that may or may not have been the owners, but I am guessing they were. Very pleasant and jovial characters. Took part in a bit of banter with one of them about our respective ages. Hence the title to this review. My partner and I had a pint and a half if Lager and for lunch she had Carbonara (which looked great by the way) and I had roasted pork belly on a bed of mash. Have to say the food was lovely 😍 by far the best pub lunch we had eaten for quite some time. Everything was well presented and hot ( we ate outside so quite a journey from the kitchen) and the service was excellent. These guys are true hospitality professionals, although without being overbearing. The total bill for the food and drinks came to around £48. We will definitely be back. They advertise a Sunday lunch BBQ which sounds amazing so if you are looking for somewhere to eat next Sunday I can absolutely recommend the Plough.

My new favourite restaurant. We randomly found this place when hiking across the Sussex downs. We had a few options for pubs but this place was ranked highest on Google reviews. We got in around ~3PM and were greeted by a wonderful chap. Super warm and welcoming. Sorted us with drinks immediately as we were exhausted from our hike. My young daughter went straight for the ice and was soon done with it. After that, she asked them for lots of ice, so they brought out a huge bowl of ice, which was hilarious, and she was REALLY happy. That kept her entertained for ages! Took our food order. Food came out very quickly. Starters were super but what really surprised us was the quality of the kids' menu pizza. You know when you order a kids pizza, lots of restaurants often won't try because it's "for the kids". Well, we tried the pizza and it was actually incredible. Well done. Our main course was solid, we had sausage & mash along with a chicken burger/fries. Both were incredible. Very generous portions too. For dessert, we had banoffee pie and some ice cream. Both wonderful. They had these wafer cone like things that came with the ice cream. My daughter loved them. She asked for more and they brought her out a whole bunch of them. Completely unexpected but she loved it. The staff were SOLID. I can't believe I've never heard of this place, it is absolutely incredible. I will be telling my friends & family about it.

My coffee experience failed at the first hurdle. £4.95 for a flat white. A coffee that could be "enjoyed" over looking a dusty car park, or from a hard looking interior with no atmosphere whatsoever. This is just nonsense. From two previous experiences I had looked forward to sitting on the balcony overlooking the vineyard. What a let down. I believe it is a legal requirement for traders to display prices. Then is none on show for consumers to make an informed decision.

The witch is a lovely pub with good food and great staff. I celebrated my birthday there recently. Everyone was very welcoming and patient, with 17 of us procrastinating over what to have. There were some nice vegan options for myself and my partner and everyone enjoyed there meals. 5 stars 🌟

Sub par food that was over priced. Charged £4.50 for 1 piece of broccoli split in to 4. Menu said 150cals, recieved maybe 30 calories. When questioned the staff I was told I just had to accept it. Not going back!
