A little gem! Fantastic food and great service and atmosphere. First time visiting but will definitely be returning.

First visit - table of 6. Food was good, but a bit of a wait for desserts -bit of a mix up in the kitchen. However redeemed themselves by deducting 2 pudding cost from bill without us suggesting any remedy (and we probably would not have done) Will come again !!

Food, iv had better sunday roast. Specially for the price it was. Service was good.. people serving where very good and very friendly. But between dishes would take a long to to be served to be able to order the desert ect. Atmosphere was OK. But can be two loud.

We decided to go here at short notice and they reserved a lovely table in the corner for us. The chefs made sure our requests for food were met (gravy in a pot for the littlen & extra roasties instead of tonnes of veg) the veg was a little on the harder side, potato's were lovely and so was the pork belly & yorkies. The service was intermitted and slow but they had some very loud parties of people in there which dampend the amphosphre for us personally, we couldn't really have a conversation together without raising our voices, (this is not the pubs fault). The desserts were delicious. It was worth the wait in terms of ordering them, once ordered everything came nice and quickly and it was just delicious. (Banoffee pie & brownie). The ice cream.was probably up there with one of the best we've had to be fair. I personally would not go back purely because of how loud it was & having daughter who struggles in very loud enviourments.. the staff was friendly and smiley & it was an okay roast. But the price was High in total for 1 kids roast, 2 adult roast 3 puds & 3 drinks. We paid a total of £95. So I would of preferred to have a quiter, calmer experince with fast front of house service.

Thank you for a fantastic Mother's Day 3 course lunch, the food and service were of the highest standard and such a nice light area to sit in and enjoy the views of the South Downs around us, it has added to a very special day for me

Walked across south downs for lunch. Great gourmet pub with a good choice on the menu. The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating. Walker friendly.

Just such a relaxed pub, great atmosphere, had a few pints of local beer, some sticky ribs in homemade sauce and listened to a couple of blokes chatting about vintage aircraft. Its our favourite place.

Went here for a family meal. Luckily we booked as the pub filled up really quickly. It soon became apparent why. The service was great and the food was excellent. We were taken to our table and provided with a drinks and food menu. Really nice to have table service in a pub. I went for a Garden Burger which was very good and the banoffee pie was exceptional. The staff checked a few times to make sure we were happy with everything. Will definitely be returning.

I was reintroduced to this wonderful restraunt by a special waitress employee, who suggested a visit, when I was organising a family pre Christmas meal. As proved correct, it was an excellent choice as the staff under pressure by guests arriving several hours earlier than booked¡! They took it in their stride and sorted my table of ten (on time) with many a smile & curtesy friendly service, food was excellent. What else can I say. Smiles from my family. Well fed & watered. Thank you, Plough, for making it a great experience.

Not a huge menu choice but what is offered is great value and served with a happy team. Food portions are generous and very reasonably priced too. Recommend a visit.

We had a wonderful family Christmas meal at The Plough on 8th December, 2023. We had the Festive Menu, and it was fantastic! The food was fabulous, and the service excellent. Heartily recommended. This is our favourite restaurant as a family. Our favourites were the Pork Belly and the Chicken Ballantine.

The Plough was recommended to us so we thought we’d give it a try….it was excellent to say the least! All of the food was very tasty, well present and arrived promptly (my only very minor gripe was the cream on the brownie tasted like squirty canned cream so wasn’t for me). What has made the whole experience stand out for us was the service; the staff were just superb. Glasses didn’t run dry and no sooner than the baby had thrown something on the floor they were there picking it up before we could….even bringing over some hot water to wash his dummy when that got launched!! The level of service and attentiveness from the staff has certainly increased the overall dining experience for us and needless to say we look forward to a return visit! Thank you from the Heath family!!

Lovely food and a nice environment

It's such a great find on a wet and windy Saturday night! Great food, friendly service, and excellent atmosphere. There is plenty of parking and great value. We took our German visitors and had a really warm welcome from the team!

🌟🌟🌟🌟 - Fantastic Food! It wasn't just the well lit wooden conservatory that attracted us to this pub, but the food looked great. So we had to check it out 🤌🏽 We ordered the broccoli soup of the day, which came piping hot and with a generous amount of bread 🥖 and butter 🧈. Perfect for a winter warmer. 🧣🧤 Bangers and mash was really well presented. Loved how they mixed the peas in with the gravy evenly across the dish with the mash and sausages in an island in the middle. Visually quite exciting, if you could describe it as such 😂 Defo wanna come back.

We arrived from the South Downs Way in muddy boots and with a dog. Signs told us - no dogs inside and take off your muddy boots. We opted to sit in the rear garden (more signs about dress code) but then they initially wouldn't serve food outside. After some persuasion they said they would. More signs inside the loos - blue paper, white paper, sprays etc. So, atmosphere not exactly welcoming. However, the beer was kept beautifully, the food was served promptly (from a wide menu), and was excellent, great presentation, hot, fresh etc. Not crowded when we went (Wednesday lunch time). The garden area is huge, with parasols against rain and sun.

Came here for lunch as it's midway between myself and family. Easy to find, but found almost no car parking and the spaces that arena the tiny car park are more suited to a motorbike...good luck if you have anything like an SUV.. anyway we would have sat outside as it was a lovely day, however the very loud roar of traffic from the A23 put us off that idea. Seated quickly but even though the place was empty service took ages, meal was ok..but for 4 adult meals (burgers) and 1 child and 4 deserts and 9 non alcoholic drinks the bill came to over £160.. have been there now, not overly impressed won't bother again..

Had a Sunday roast here. My pork belly was well cooked, but had a slightly chewy bottom. Very good portion though! Beers are on the pricey side. All in all a decent place with nice staff.

We turned up on a Sunday evening without a booking, and the were very kind to find us a table, we sat down and they took our order our starters came out very quick, after we finished our starters boost came back, we eventually got bored of waiting and ordered our food at the bar. After we finished we then waited ages for someone to come back, finally when they did we asked for the bill but then took ages to come back. The food was very nice and the staff were very friendly but did think it did took the Micky then to be charged a 12.5% service charge.

First visit to this lovely lively pub. We stopped on off chance for a Sunday roast. Initially told they were fully booked - but staff were so friendly and managed to find us a table. The roasts were absolutely delicious and great value for money. The pub was packed - yet the staff were lovely , friendly , efficient and attentive. They were all working flat out yet out food still arrived in good time. A great meal and will definitely be back soon. Thank you.

This is a hidden gem tucked just off the main road. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. I had the chicken Milanese and my sister had the sweet potato curry which went down very well. We had been here previously and enjoyed a mid week lunch and this time the food seemed even better. The staff were very friendly and attentive. I will definitely be back next time we are in the UK, highly recommended if you're in the area.

Sunday roast was the best I’ve had in ages, friendly & welcoming staff. Value for money & the tiramasu was to die for!

Very nice place, lots of seating, inside and out. Only disappointment were the pizzas, the bases were very bland.

Just had an excellent meal at The Plough … had the lamb fillet off the BBQ which was absolutely delicious … other members of the group had minced lamb and a large nachos with beef chilli. It was clear that everything was home made and the team took great pride in the food and service and experience was excellent Will be back

Delicious succulent chicken kebab and the ribs were just as good with the tender meat falling off the bone. What a lucky find on the A23 en route to visit family 🙂

All good, shame about the service charge?

Visited the Plough following a walk around Pyecombe with my partner. The pub is lovely inside, possibly a bit too restauranty and not pubby enough but pleasant enough all the same. There were two guys serving that may or may not have been the owners, but I am guessing they were. Very pleasant and jovial characters. Took part in a bit of banter with one of them about our respective ages. Hence the title to this review. My partner and I had a pint and a half if Lager and for lunch she had Carbonara (which looked great by the way) and I had roasted pork belly on a bed of mash. Have to say the food was lovely 😍 by far the best pub lunch we had eaten for quite some time. Everything was well presented and hot ( we ate outside so quite a journey from the kitchen) and the service was excellent. These guys are true hospitality professionals, although without being overbearing. The total bill for the food and drinks came to around £48. We will definitely be back. They advertise a Sunday lunch BBQ which sounds amazing so if you are looking for somewhere to eat next Sunday I can absolutely recommend the Plough.

My new favourite restaurant. We randomly found this place when hiking across the Sussex downs. We had a few options for pubs but this place was ranked highest on Google reviews. We got in around ~3PM and were greeted by a wonderful chap. Super warm and welcoming. Sorted us with drinks immediately as we were exhausted from our hike. My young daughter went straight for the ice and was soon done with it. After that, she asked them for lots of ice, so they brought out a huge bowl of ice, which was hilarious, and she was REALLY happy. That kept her entertained for ages! Took our food order. Food came out very quickly. Starters were super but what really surprised us was the quality of the kids' menu pizza. You know when you order a kids pizza, lots of restaurants often won't try because it's "for the kids". Well, we tried the pizza and it was actually incredible. Well done. Our main course was solid, we had sausage & mash along with a chicken burger/fries. Both were incredible. Very generous portions too. For dessert, we had banoffee pie and some ice cream. Both wonderful. They had these wafer cone like things that came with the ice cream. My daughter loved them. She asked for more and they brought her out a whole bunch of them. Completely unexpected but she loved it. The staff were SOLID. I can't believe I've never heard of this place, it is absolutely incredible. I will be telling my friends & family about it.

I'd just walked 17 miles along the South Downs Way and was in desperate need of a pint, some water and a plate of salty chips. They supplied it all quickly and with a smile. I sat in the sun and recovered!

I went post football and despite our appearance they were very welcoming but advised us to take some space outside...I have a feeling our general scruffiness somewhat brought the standards down. My only gripe bar being cast outside was the price of their drinks. I only pay the kind of prices they have in central London. £6.50 for a pint of Beavertown ale.

My first time visiting this pub. I've been coming past here for 50 years and never once ventured in. Until yesterday. My wife recommended it for the amazing fajitas so we decided to simply turn up without a booking. The staff were friendly, efficient, and super helpful and we were seated within 20 seconds. It's such a great experience these days to be treated with manners and warmth and speaks volumes about the management here that they hire great people. The food was delish! The vegetable fajitas were incredible, tomato soup was great, and the margarita pizza for kids was uber tasty and high quality. Since we live nearby now, we will definitely visit the Plough regularly. Can't believe it took me 50 years to go in!

Celebrated 2x family birthdays here on a busy Sunday lunchtime but staff were up to the task! Enjoyed the duck parcels, sausage and mash and the roast dinners especially. Many thanks for helping us with the birthday cake - it was a windy day and the candles were not playing along! There's loads of room outside too - a good option if the conservatory is too hot for you, certainly worth taking drinks out.

We visited late afternoon so pub was virtually empty. We ordered drinks and asked for a menu. They wouldn't take the money for the drinks at that point. The reason for this is obviously if they add it to your food bill you then get hit with a 12.5% service charge when you finally pay. The drinks are also incredibly expensive, if you realised the price you probably wouldn't ordered another. I know they will say the service charge is hidden in the small print on the menu but it should be optional, in other words mentioned at the time of payment and not for you to see afterwards when you look at your receipt in detail and it is then too late to do anything. You expect a service charge if you are sat in a restaurant but not when you are sat outside going to the bar to order drinks. It's a shame because this marred the whole experience which had been good and the food had been nice. As a result I will not be returning.

Amazing gem. We have been coming here for 7 years. Food is always amazing and the service is always great. We gave been for lunches and evening meals as a couple and a group of upto 8 people. We have never been disappointed or hungry. Well done to all the team

Great service, great staff, and fantastic food. Absolutely love this place and eat there on a regular, sometimes weekly basis. It is our go to for eating out.

Good selection of food. My only gripe was Service. We took my parents, and siblings with their husbands. And we had to ask for drinks rather than be asked if we wanted anything. Be more attentive when you are adding a service charge is all we ask. Food was excellent though. Parking can be a bit of a problem in busy days. Day we went was not too busy.

On our last day of hols we asked the sat nav for a close restaurant and turned up here! It was certainly lucky for us as I do love fish and I had a choice without the usual inevitable battered covered fish. I chose the salmon with a beautiful sauce including ginger, turmeric and coconut milk. The salmon was a generous size and very flavourful. My husband enjoyed his mixed grill and was a happy man. This is not my usual area to be in but would definitely take a detour to return for another meal.

Nice for a refreshing beer after a hike on the South downs

Walked over from Clayton with the dog and decided to have something to eat. We were made very welcome and had the spicy prawn starter and mushroom risotto...very good freshly prepared restaurant quality food served with a smile. We found everyone there very relaxed and friendly and it was very clean. I've been before in the winter but it's very nice on a summer evening too.

Stopped off on the way home to Eastbourne, the guys running pub very friendly and funny, had BBQ which is served every day, large portions and nice food, will definitely visit again

This is a friendly place but charged us £5.50 service charge on our bill. The whole bill for rib and chips, and ribs and salad and 2 cokes. £49.50 for this. Not good value for money. I know I could have refused service charge, but it's very confrontational.

Would prefer to tip what and who I liked to...12.5% service charge was a little steep tbh..

Lovely little pub off the A23. Stopped here for a bite to eat and was greeted by two lovely staff who gave us a seat and a baby chair for our son. Great selection of drinks on tap and the food was delicious a reasonably priced.

Have heard of this place being a great pub but hadn't managed to make the trip out of Brighton despite living there for years. What a lovely surprise! Great, delicious hearty food, friendly staff and a good spot for walking the south downs around. We will be sure to come back! They were also more than accommodating to our little 2yr old toddler. This is absolutely one of the best restaurants for miles around. The food is consistently excellent, the selection is great, and the staff are so friendly and welcoming that my family have been coming here for years and we have never been disappointed. Their Sunday Roasts are cooked to perfection and their portions are generous. Their Tiramisu and Banoffee Pie are EPIC! Very highly recommended.

Was a Saturday lunchtime very quiet.... was for a special occasion

Always a warm welcome. Food is amazing, one of the few places I will order a steak confident I will be able to eat it. Pasta dishes are also great. Huge glass covered dining room for wet days and garden if its sunny.

Firstly, hands up, we were 10mins late arriving. The guy who met us to seat us made us feel like it was the crime of the century. He said he'd given our table away despite the fact that we could see 2 tables of 4 that were sitting empty. We eventually got sat at one of these tables. It then took half an hour for someone to come over for our drinks order and we told this waiter we ready to order our food as well. He said 'no problem I'll just get your drinks order sorted then I'll be back for the food order'. So, about half an hour later we had to flag down a passing waiter to take our food order. When it arrived it was very nice if a little expensive. We didn't stay for dessert as we had sat there long enough by that point. The waitress who brought us the bill was lovely and the highlight of the meal. We won't be going back.

This is a must if you are in the area, a beautiful pub restaurant which my parents used to visit every week, I was able to take them last week after an absence of 3 years, and the team were amazing, super staff exemplary food and beautiful surroundings all make for a wonderful experience

Having eaten at The Plough quite a few times in the last couple of years I can say I love how consistent is the food quality and the service. They got a few vegetarian options, I have had pizza a couple of times and the veggie burger last time. Puddings are nice too. Bear in mind, it is slightly on the expensive side with, for example, a burger + a pint coming over £20 but at least you don't get disappointed with the food.
