From the outside it’s a very pretty pub. We ate outside, which felt very cramped. It wasn’t a very relaxing atmosphere. The food wasn’t great. Our waiter was quite friendly. Sadly, I wouldn’t go there again.

The Plough East Sheen is a STAPLE for a great drink and incredible food, the team behind the bar and on the floor are made up of informed, kind and helpful stars. Who ever is in the kitchen smashes a pea hummus, I’ve never had a bad meal here. The garden is beautiful and filled with roses I heard their team tend to themselves, the dedication shows and the vibes are immense. It’s a slay all round

Staff just can't cope. Unable to flag a waiter down then had to get up to approach to make my food order. Shortly after needed needed drinks and was told I'd gave to wait! Poor show with inexperienced staff. All the time the landlady was sat drinking and socialising with client in the garden, totally oblivious :-(

Such a shame that the food at the Plough is not like it was in the past pre Fullers! We had dinner recently it being our local and were shocked by the portion sizes! We had the risotto as a main which was barely a starter size portion. The greens accompanying the fish pie only a few mouthfuls more like a garnish and the extra side of broccoli a measly 4 stems!! Left hungry and won’t be back in a hurry!

Updated as returned for a Sunday roast: Beef very delicious. Potatoes were a bit meh (never crispy at all pub?!). No stuffing but made up for it with delish cauli cheese and Yorkshire pud. Some red cabbage or peas would’ve been good. Were sat in the door so had to eat in coats as was so cold - as for a table away from it if you feel the cold! Our waitress shut the curtain but doesn’t help much when it’s opened all the time. Guinness was terrible and watery, couldn’t finish it! Original review: Popped by for a New Year’s Day lunch after a walk round Richmond park. V busy but lots of tables outside with heaters or covers so we weren’t fussed. Staff were pretty dismissive but let them off as NYD and probably hungover! Food was delish and the servers were v friendly (just not manager!). Burgers, fish and chips and chicken schnitzel all devoured. Will be back! £20pp including food, soft drink and service, not bad these days!

Just off the beaten track this was a great little find recently. After reading some reviews was a little unsure but should always go with the majority of views. We had a wonderful meal with great service. Hats off to the chef's for executing what seemed like a busy sunday lunch, we enjoyed our Chicken to share, perfect portions - so much so we couldn't quite finish. Surrounded by fresh veg and plenty of potatoes & clearly handmade Yorkies. Our server, I forgot to get a name was attentive, suggested us a great wine to compliment our meal. We will definately be back again in the very near future. Thank-you all.

It was a sunny day so we ate outside. An interesting and diverse menu, l chose a burger and chips, my companion chose lambs liver and mash. His was probably better VFM. He thinks not! I ordered Sticky Rhubarb Meringue for dessert : I believe there was a trace of cooked rhubarb, surrounded by raw and finely diced and coloured apple. The meringue was uncooked but browned and the pastry hard to break. A disappointment.

Great country style pub in the middle of suburbia. Service was 5* but food was positively a basic 3*. We had the Sunday roast - beef and vegetarian options. My partner said her vegetarian option was lovely but my beef was extremely fatty and roast potatoes were reheated. I guess some people love it but it’s definitely not for those who appreciate good quality fresh food. I can’t fault the service as the staff were 100% great!

EDITED - this was a review I wrote after a visit back in October 2022 but not uploaded - still it was disappointing. Despite having been in contact with them some time in advance regarding a couple of allergy issues, and being reassured there would be no problem, on the actual night they could not guarantee garlic free steaks. The menu was limited and very few specials were available. Portions were extremely small and very expensive - someone though the chicken was a starter! When ordering we checked what it came with and told it came with vegetables - 2.5 tiny new potatoes a half a leaf of Cavolo nero is what we got - really poor value for money. One of our group who did have the steak left a lot of it - meat was tough. Issues raised (in a quiet manner) were not handled particularly well by the manager and service was not great. We were a table of 10 and this was not a cheap meal and rest assured despite this being our nearest pub - which we used to really love and use regularly, we will not be returning. Not one member of staff said good-bye despite is being about 10.00 and the pub was pretty empty. Such a shame.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, etc. but lately (I’ve taken groups of friends to eat dinner three times in the past month) the food has been awful. Others in my road that were there last night reported the same to me. Such a shame. They really need a new menu. This is a very friendly homely pub. The food is very good and the portions are generous - so take your appetite! We actually sat in the smaller snug like area - which is very nice. I think they have the log fire on in the winter and to be honest you'd want to settle and not leave! They have books to read, you can play cards etc - and of course imbibe at the same time. I usually love this pub but on the last two occasions I have found the staff below average! When booking with open table the staff member that greeted us couldn't find our booking and didn't seem like she wanted to bother finding us a table. On our last visit I asked the waitress about why there were no prices for the carafes and her manor was off and condescending! When making our order to the next waitress who was quite young we said three times we wanted the main course portion of a starter and she acknowledged this, when it arrived it was very small so I asked is this a starter and she said yes it was!!! What is going on???

We booked a table of 8 for an evening meal with family and friends in between Christmas and New Year. We had a drink at the bar before sitting down to a table in this cosy warm, tastefully decorated pub. We were served by the manager Dave, who looked after us impeccably throughout the evening - his Irish charm certainly had the right effect. Our orders were taken swiftly and we did not have to wait long for our food. We had starters and mains and then shared a few puds, as everyone was so full. All the dishes were delicious but the standout dish for our party was the risotto with scallops - my parents said it was the best risotto they had ever tasted. Appealing was the fact that with many of the dishes, you can choose a starter or main size portion. Our meal was accompanied by several bottles of Sancerre, a family favourite. All in all a very pleasant exerience and a happy occasion for our family - thank you Dave.

This pub has been transformed into an excellent eating venue which is very popular. Near to East Sheen and Richmond park, with reasonable parking, the food choices are varied and portions plentiful. Meals are served at tables in the bar [no separate restaurant] which gives it a very cosy, warm and relaxed feel.

On this particular occasion the staff were exceptionally grumpy. They were also very critical of TT booking system - we had reserved about an hour before and apparently they had not been advised which they suggested was common, even though we had received a TT confirmation. At first they weren't going to honour the reservation as they were busy but we strenuously objected and they grudgingly relented - a little disconcerting though.

Visited The Plough in East Sheen for the first time last week & didn't enjoy it as much as other gastropubs I've been to, so was disappointed as it had been highly recommended.

I ordered pan fried scallops & king prawns which came with a mixed salad & fries. I got 3 scallops & 1 king prawn, the mixed salad was more of a garnish & I felt that the fries had been cooked ages ago & kept warm as they were hard & chewy & not hot & crispy! Not good value for money at £12.95! Also, once we had eaten our mains & said 'no' to a dessert, we couldn't seem to attract anyone's attention to get the bill & had to wait ages. I believe Sunday lunch is good, so perhaps I need to give them the benefit of the doubt & try again??

A few minutes from Richmond Park's Sheen Gate the Plough is one of the friendliest, liveliest pubs in SW London, with an extensive menu that should meet all tastes. Service is responsive, portions satisfying and ambiance attractive. It's not on a main route, but in a leafy side road, and although there's no car park, there's plenty of street parking space. On summer evenings the outdoor section is pleasant, with little traffic passing by. The locals don't brag about this place, they'd rather keep it to themselves. It's a secret worth sharing, though.
