A fantastic meal and service for an 89th birthday! My Nans favourite place to go for a meal for years, she was definitely not disappointed! Fun had all round! A really lovely evening!

Had my nephew’s birthday meal here tonight, the food was good and the staff were absolutely fantastic!!

lovely country pub, nice setting, staff friendly. food poor. i had fish and chips. waited ages and when it arrived batter was soggy and stodgey, very little fish which wasnt good quality. warmed up chips, not edible, not a cheap meal and poor value for money. other members of party had similar complaints. need to get a new chef. its a shame as the pub has great potential.

Came here tonight last minute plans at half 7pm with my Mum and dog. Such a lovely bunch of people who work here! Couldn't have done enough for us. The food was beautiful - all home made - even the chips! 🥲 Totally recommend the curry! And my mum had the steak (my mum is fussy) an she said it was cooked to perfection! The desert came out and it was so well presented! It was beautiful! VERY dog friendly which is a bonus!! 😁 Can not wait to go back! Next we are going to try a carvery.....I'm hungry again thinking about it 🤣😍 xx

Realy disappointing Sunday lunch. I'd pre booked for 5 people and they got that wrong and only wrote 2 down. Got to our table to be told to go to the carvery in 5 mins when the food was restocked but after 10 mins nothing had been put out yet and we had to wait nearly 20 mins. For the price of the carvery, there was a pretty poor selection of veg and everything was tasteless. We then got told that they needed the table, despite being made to wait for our food and wait for someone to take a desert order. We only ordered 3 deserts but only 2 came out so we ended up just getting the bill, which was also a farse because the staff struggled to split it. No apology at all for such a poor service and certainly not worth the wait or the money. We won't be going back

Booked a table for 2 for a carvery, turned up waited 10 minutes to be served. Couldn't find our reservation and sitted everyone who turned up after us. Put us a random table, never gave us a menu, or asked for our drink order, every server ignored us. Had to go and ask someone for a drink. Asked for a dessert menu twice never got one. Gave up and went to pay and the servers on the till where very rude, pretty sure they over charged us as they said they had no idea how much our order was. Carvery was standard but the service really let it down, no matter new or old management every time we decide to give it another go it always disappoints

We had a family meal for 35 of us for my nieces 30th birthday lovely welcome on arrival , service was outstanding, from all the staff , and food was lovely also -well organised from start to finish , we will defo be booking again

I'm not one to complain usually but I was highly disappointed. With 4 staff members being behind the bar there was no welcome on arrival and stood waiting for a table for 5mins without a word being said. Sounds a bit mad but we ordered 2 drinks, both were wrong and had to get them changed. The table next to us had the same issues. We ordered 2 meals, mine came with the wrong chips and I had to make them aware of that. For the price of the meals it was a major let down.

8 of us went for a birthday meal. Staff absolutely lovely, went out of their way for us bringing the birthday cake in and singing happy birthday. Food was delicious, my husband had the black pudding to start and thoroughly enjoyed it. The homemade steak pie that I had for the main was beautiful. All food piping hot and generous portion sizes. Will definitely be back.

Been tonight with Family for s meal and the staff were lovely. Food was great and wasn't expensive considering there was 8 of us. Will be revisiting again soon. Thanks guys

We booked at the Plough for a family of 5, we had a lovely warm welcome when we arrived. We had yet carvery and it was simply amazing, great choice of veg and meats and it was lovely and fresh and hot. Our daughters absolutely demolished their desserts. A lovely lunch and experience and a massive well done to the team and new operator.

I hate to say this as I've always loved our meals at the plough in fact it was my favourite pub to eat at but this time it was the opposite. When we arrived for the table we had booked the lady who showed us to our table was lovely and very polite. I wish she had continued to serve us as from the moment she asked a young waitress to take our drinks order it all changed. The waitresses on were all very young (there's nothing wrong with that but it was a very busy Sunday and they all seemed unable to cope with how busy it was). It took around 10 minutes to get our first drinks and when we ordered the second set of drinks, after 20 minutes of waiting, my husband nipped the toilet to find the waitress who took our order sat at the bar eating at that point my daughter went to the waitress to remind her we were still waiting and they were then promptly brought to us. My husband and kids ordered carvery and I ordered the steak and ale pie. It took quite along time for my meal to come but as I say it was a busy Sunday. When my meal did arrive it was lovely... the pie was gorgeous, hot, lots of filling and the chips were nice too. I didn't enjoy the veg but that was more on me as I'm a very fussy veg eater. Unfortunately the same couldn't be said of the carvery. Granted the meats were nice but the mash was tasteless, the roast potatoes were hard in the middle and the veg was very bland. The kids did enjoy the pigs in blankets thou. The man who was serving the carvery was miserable and looked and sounded like being there was the last place on earth he wanted to be. We had hoped that just because management had changed that the food and the staff would still be lovely but unfortunately we were wrong. We left guttered. I

I believe The Plough is under new management but unfortunately it is not for the better! Went for a Carvery today and from start to finish it wasn’t good at all. I called to see if we could go straightaway they said yes so when we arrived the waitress pointed our table out and took our order for drinks we each wanted a Diet Pepsi, we were told we could go for our carvery, which we did upon returning to our table we were asked if we could move to another table which had our drinks on? They brought us 2 pints of Pepsi! We did not ask for pints! The table couldn’t even fit 2 plates on! As for the food! I had to ask for steak knives so we could cut the beef it was very tough! Frozen roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings! Cauliflour was rock hard, seemed liked tinned mushy peas, not impressed at all and £15.95 each!!!! Unless something drastic changes here we will not be returning. It is such a shame as we have always enjoyed the roasts when Jay & Jake had it. Very disappointing indeed.

Just been the Plough for my daughters 13th Birthday and what a disappointment. Really poor service from start to finish. Drinks were flat had to return 3 drinks. The food was just an let down - normally the food is absolutely lovely. Couldn’t get the orders correct. Staff didn’t know what was goin on. Asked for extra sauces took 20 minutes for them to arrive. Food used to be all home cooked and certain items seemed to be frozen this time around. Been here loads of time and it was faultless. After this visit - don’t think I will return. They couldn’t even get the cake right as they only lit the 3 candle and not the 1 candle and just said it wouldn’t work. And to top it off table was booked for 1500 and at 1625 asked if we had finished as they need the table which is so unprofessional Really really poor overall

Local to me, have been going for years, love the carvery and the atmosphere. Good value pub grub. Ample off road parking and play area for the kids.

Tried here on a recommendation of a friend and we were not disappointed. I had the carvery which was amazing, fresh and delicious. Husband enjoyed his burger and my son enjoyed his kids meal. Staff were polite, quick and attentive. An all round lovely Sunday...

ordered 2 adult meals along with 4 kids meals . take-away it was cold and they were all virtually the same size , not much meat on most ,sausage uncooked...not the best experience really

Spent the evening at this 19th century traditional country pub / restaurant located on Spa Lane in Lathom.The restaurant has a large spacious car park, beer garden and kids play area.This eatery serves your traditional cask ales, has lovely real fires burning and makes you feel home from home.The food is all locally sourced, the quality is very good, the portion sizes are big and the prices are reasonable.The staff working here are friendly and very professional. The place is really clean and operates a one way system for entering and exiting. The staff ensure sanitisation is in use and all wear face coverings adhering to social distancing guidance.Would definitely visit again when next in the area. which serves lovely

We had been several times before lockdown and really enjoyed every meal. We’ve been twice in the past two weeks and loved it. The food choice and quality is fantastic. The prices are great too.

Four of us was looking forward to a visit to the plough now that the orginal managers/owners were back. We ordered two starters one being tomatoe soup which the spoon stood up by itself and wasnt edible, for the mains three of us ordered the salt and pepper chicken with rice and chips and a thimble full of curry. All was ok except for the rice on the three plates which was cold. The other meal was lasagne with garlic bread which was like a brick. There was a lot of flies and we did not feel comfortable with distance between tables. We will not be returning.

Nothing too much trouble for all of the staff. Very busy due to everyone wanting a 50% off meal. Food was excellent back to its previous standard. Feels like the place needs an update.....toilet facilities need an upgrade

Well James and Jake are back and the difference is obvious from the start.Friendly service, attention to detail and great food.Came for Sunday lunch with my family, 2 had carvery (served and not self serve due to virus restrictions) which were lovely, hubby had cajun chicken pasta which he said was amazing and little fella ordered fish fingers and got home made dish fish goujons instead which went down a treat. Too full for pudding, maybe next time! Will definately be back, can't recommend enough now the boys are back.

Tonight was the 2nd time I've been here over the last two weeks. I was recommended it by friends. I am so glad they did. The Plough Inn has a welcoming atmosphere and the staff are friendly and helpful, nothing is too much for them. The Owners were out on the floor talking and greeting customers is a friendly manor. The food was to die for, we will definitely be back and 100% recommended The Plough Inn. Thank you again for a lovely evening.

First time visiting as we live down south. Baguette was amazing and the waitress was lovely. Always find it hard dining out alone with my daughter who is deaf as she wants to communicate with waiters. The young lady ( jade I think?) knew some sign language and my daughters eyes lit up. It’s just little things that make your day special. Thankyou again so much. Couldn’t recommend enough.

The Plough was the last place we visited on lockdown day and the first place after lockdown was lifted...and what a difference a lockdown makes. Firstly, Jake is back and this place has been nothing without him, it’s clean, the food is fresh and the service is second to none...back to how it was when he was here previously. Hurrah ! After months of lockdown the only good news was that James and Jake were back at the plough, the delight of being able to eat the only decent salt and pepper chicken this side of West Lancashire is just too much to bear! I was lucky I was there for the shift change so I got an hour of Jake and an hour of james! Top notch, felt safe, great food, great company, what more can we ask for, ? Onward and upwards

After coming last year on two separate occasions and thinking how bad the food was. We heard Jay and Jake were back so decided to give it another go. So glad we did, Carvery was so tasty and kids all loved there meals. Will definitely be coming back now as we used to come often. Well done boys for getting it back on track.

My wife and I made our first visit post lockdown this evening. We had driven passed the premises many times before but never stopped to try it out. This evening’s visit was end to end fantastic. Warm greeting from the staff, amazing food, reasonably priced food and drinks, large portions served hot. A very clean restaurant. We will definitely be returning for more!

What a difference! Me and the wife visited on Monday. we had be told the pub was under new management the minute we walked in you could see the difference it was clean and fresh and the lad and girl serving was very smiley we had are drinks very quickly and the food was amazing I had the homemade pie and my wife had the ribeye steak we will definitely be going back soon

I had two lovely pints of bitter in here today, and I am looking forward to be able to eat a carver in here again. It was nice and calm in there today, it was a very relaxing atmosphere.

we arrived about 18.15 one young female staff behind the bar we ordered drinks she was doing everything working the bar taking food orders and waiting on also clearing tables there was about 10 people in the whole place at this time a big lad turns up and processed are drinks we waited for are friends befor we ordered food another thin blond female walks out of the kitchen into the bar I walked over to be served the female returns to kitchen with a drink and disappears waiting waiting female returns said as she walked past sorry ladies won't keep you a minute goes back to bar has a discussion with the first female then returns to serving area opens a door and shouts up the stairs big lad comes down takes female into kitchen by this time I have lost the will got my bag and left the place I have never in all my life known such bad service these young girls have no experience on how to deal with people never mind food and running a bar

Cold Monday decided to pop in. Waiting around to be served and only two other people in the pub. Meat was dry and over cooked veg had been sat there waiting for a customer to take them. Disappointed to say the least to get the best experience is to go in on a Sunday when it’s busy and food is moving onto plates. Had the dessert apple crumble!!! It was no way a crumble may be some form of oats melted with margarine ... horrible.

Always go for the Carvery but can be a bit hit and miss at time, very small spaced to eat also, I always request a bar table or the carvery table.

Me and my friends ate here the other night- the food was nice as always, however the staff were vile. They rushed giving us our bill and making payments, then instead of politely informing us that they were due to close, staff were stood close by shouting "oh I wish they'd just leave". The Plough would benefit from putting their staff on a customer service course!

I've seen some negative reviews of The Plough but i went for lunch there today and the service and meal was excellent, i had the Hunters Chicken and it was piping hot and delicious, the waitress who attended to us was very polite and attentive so overall it was a very good experience for all concerned

After going the plough for about 5 years I don’t no why it’s so bad now but last night was the last time I will go!!! the food was cold and tasteless the staff didn’t look like they cared when told how bad the food was, the pub looks run down and dirty.

Having heard this place now has a bad reputation decided to go anyway , wish I hadn’t bothered the food is not what it used to be . Reading other reviews since being in there it seems like the 2 fellas that ran it have left . Shame used to be a decent pub with decent food . I won’t be back any time soon

This used to be a favourite I lovely restaurant visited often tonight we’ve been to find the place almost empty the food appalling the staff absolutely shocking at complained to the chef about us I’m teen times never have I been given pâté with piccalilli pie and mash when we asked for gravy you just thought we were asking for something they’ve never heard of the service was appalling for food was even worse such a shame the boys that run it before had such a good business God alone knows who is taking over now but the fact that it was empty speaks volumes that used to be full you would struggle to get a table

We've eaten Christmas dinner at the plough for 3 years now, this was to be our 4th.

This restaurant unfortunately has lost its way..Since Jake left along with the chef and team the standard has dropped! we use to come regularly for the carvery properly the best in the area. The last time we went it was very quiet and not as busy,no wonder the carvery was awful COLD and TASTELESS no atmosphere will not be returning such a SHAME!!

Having read several poor reviews, we still attended and found the place to be fine! Lovely carvery , well priced, beer was ok, service was very good. Don’t book by internet as they are not that up to date. ! Just ring! And speak! Family run business that seems to have been targeted by rivals to put customers off! It’s good value,

Very very dissapointed called in on Friday for lunch with my daughter this place was always my first port of call it used to serve great food great portions we both had the carvery not worth the money decent portion of meats but cabbage tasted of burn by being on the hot plate to long mash looked like it was 2days old by sitting on the hot plate all day long the temperature of the food is not up to be expected by the the food hygiene standard we won’t be returning

A superb pub/restaurant ruined by the loss of a great chef and capable management. We were regular visitors always enjoying good food and friendly staff. We felt so sorry for our waitress who had to keep apologising when we raised our concerns. The price of our drinks was taken off our bill but we will not return to any establishment that is happy to present us with substandard food. There are plenty of other good pubs around. A great shame that a good pub has lost it’s way.

Went with wife & children for a meal. The wait for the food was nearly an hour and when it arrived it really wasnt worth the wait. Rare steak was more medium well, Chips tasted like theyve been left in oil for ages. The only positive i could offer was that the young waitress (Erin) was very well mannered and apologetic for the wait, they won;'t keep good staff at this rate.

My family and i have been going to the Plough for many years and have always been delighted with the service and the food. The very young waitress was lovely, but that was the only good thing I can say about it. The food was shacking. My friend went with her family 2 weeks before with all her family she was of the same opinion. Awful. It will have to change hands before i go back

A dozen of us sat down to a reserved table. Service was reasonable quick, with friendly staff on hand to see every need. My wife having dementia with usually tastes was accommodated excellently. Food was wholesome and fresh. I would visit again if in area.

Went saturday with my family for a birthday meal, to start with the first two pints of lager had to be taken back to the bar because they smelt of rotten eggs(since been told this is because the pipes are dirty), not even an apology from the staff just a "what else do you want then", when we finally sat at our table the wait was long to be asked what we all wanted. When the food arrived it was luke warm to say the least, my steak was full of gristle and to top it off three of us ordered a steak sauce wuhich arrived ten minutes later, have been to the plough many times over the years but have to say your standards have dropped considerably, and your prices are so not worth the value for money, wont be coming back any time soon

Took family for a nice afternoon drink and to play with grand children, very disappointed the play area had dog droppings everywhere my youngest grandson slipped on some which ended up on his clothes, also broken glass on the grass. Ladies toilets disgusting with faeces up the wall and also on the babies changing mat also ladies used personal toiletries left on floor...We used to enjoy visiting but after the last visit we will not be returning..This is a health and safety issue and needs to be reviewed as a matter of urgency.

We have been eating here for years, not any more.The carvery is not a patch on what it used to be . I questioned wether they were now using aunt Bessie’s roast potatoes and was assured they weren’t. They were awful. Its a shame as I have recommended this place to friends and family.

Waited over an hour for food before I could get my paid for luke warm carvery It was absolutely awful , really no choice other than turkey as the other two meats looked like they had been there since Sunday ! Veg cold , gravy salty , Yorkshire puddings last two where somewhat burnt and no sign of mustards , cranberry sauce etc and when asked for them was told they would bring them, which they didn’t!!! Someone lit a cigarette on doorway to kitchen !!All in all a bad experience For £10 50 I could have made a delicious roast to serve 4 ! Very disappointing !

We have gone to the plough for years and it has always been lovely, beautuful food and lovely friendly staff. Not anymore!!! They have clearly changed management/staff and kitchen staff. The carvery is luke warm and dry and the food is not up to scratch at all, the service is not a patch on what it used to be, its a miserable place now with rubbish food an no atmosphere. We will not be returning EVER!! Was a lovely place when Jake & James ran it!! Dissapointing!!

If I could give it no stars I would. Loved coming to the plough for years always enjoyed the food and the service has always been amazing. Not anymore

Went for lunch on Wednesday afternoon. The food is definitely not what it used to be. Had the carvery which was just not the same as last time we visited.

We both had the carvery, it was nicely cooked to perfection. My advice is to go early because it does get busy.

from what was one of the best carvery you could find around the last time we visited it had lost its appeal, food was cooked but the standard had slipped a little, also the front of house staff are no longer there ( wishing them well in there new roles) and this loss seems to have worked its way through the pub. We will sadly miss the pub.
