First visit for a couple of years food was really good as was the service and ready on time.

Nearly always tasty sometimes a tad greasy but it's never bad!

Gave us chips while we waited and such lovely service!

Not likely to use again. Got an OAP special - cod & chips. Fish was good but chips tasted like they’d been re-cooked. Disappointing.

used to be Best food in Sussex. now they can't even be bothered to grill fish for you. NO LOCAL SERVICE. just a total let down.. went to alibaba next door.

The food is properly cooked and one of the best around the South Coast I found a lot of the good ones the standard has dropped and we no longer use the others.thanks for a great service

I got a beautifully cooked piece of cod and brilliant crispy chips in my takeaway this evening. Everything tasted fresh, and the service was efficient and friendly. I am happy that we have such a good chippy in Southwick Square.

I like it here. The chicken pie is nice and so is the sausage and I like the chips. Not all of the chips, as 6 chips had marks on them. They also serve fish, and battered sausages. I had a plain sausage as I did not want a bruised sausage, it cant be nice for a defenceless sausage being beaten up. Next time I come, I will bring all my imaginary friends with me, I expect they will have battered sausages.

Stumbled upon this restaurant after doing the Southwick Square Halloween trail (which is great fun for kids) and what a find it was! The food was fantastic - my cod and chips was fab and the portions were very generous. Service from the owner was great too. Highly recommend!

I go here most Wednesdays to collect fish and chips when my mother in law visits. It's our favourite chip shop, they are always really friendly and give very generous portions. The food is always cooked fresh and tastes great.

I came for some fish and a battery sausage. It was ok good price but nothing special.

Thought the prices were a bit toppy for a local fish and chips shop. However it was worth every penny the chips were massive and probably the best I’ve ever had. Shame it’s not closer to home.

Visited here not long ago, and have already decided I will not be going back. Staff were just plain rude and clearly spend more time gossiping about each other and customers than doing their jobs, manager doesn’t seem to have a care in the world, the service was just awful with the exception of a couple of young girls. On top of all this, I didn’t even enjoy my food, extremely fatty and barely even warm when I received it. Definitely won’t be going back and don’t recommend to anyone visiting.

Stopped off for fish and chips whilst in the area. Really impressed with the quality and price compared to what I'd be paying in London. A large cod and chips was fantastic and a decent portion of curry sauce. Service was pleasant too and I'd go back there for sure next time I'm in the area.

Worst haddock supper ever and most expensive Being a Scottish fisherman fir 35 years and know a good haddock or not. Fresh haddock should be pure white when u peel the batter off. This fish was grey and orange colour probably been frozen for a long time. Don't recommend this place for a fish supper. .

I visited the Plaice in the square today, I was rather hoping for improvement, but sadly no change here. Large cod with medium chips for just under ten pounds. Once home unwrapped fish, which was swimming in fat, a good size cod as ordered large, but had no taste whats so ever. Maybe really old frozen fish would taste of nothing. I ordered medium chips, which were a good size, but seemed to be reheated not fried to order. Chips were dry, but more annoying as I had to check them as they were covered in black spots. The Plaice In The Square stands out, needs mass s improvement.

For the third time I have failed to get fish and chips from this plaice (see what I did there?) as, yet again, it was closed during its advertised open time. This time we were waved away 35 minutes before they were due to close. This baffles me. Surely at the moment, restaurants like this rely on being open, nothing else is. So why close early? Anyway, we went to a plaice (yep I did it again) in Shoreham which was open, and cheaper. And probably better.

Had been to The Plaice in the Square for Fish & Chips several times, also the chips were odds & ends not of a `quality` potato. Because, next day one goes to the toilet, have the screeming abdabs (diarrhoea)!! So now will not use them. Found that their prices are higher than most.

I bought a piece of cod on Wednesday 12th. August. I took it home and when I started to eat it I noticed firstly that it was not very hot. Secondly it had no flavour whatsoever. Thirdly the skin was inedible in asmuch as however much I chewed it, it refused to break down. Hence I put it back on the plate. Fourthly the fish was dry - not an ounce of moisture in it. It must have been cooked hours ago and left under heat to dry out. What a waste of £5.50. An old saying - Bread baked with indifference will taste bitter. Same goes for any food. An utter disgrace. What a way to treat a customer!

I can't really believe the bad reviews posted about this restaurant. The food is of a high quality with excellent friendly & helpful staff. We have eaten at many Fish & Chip restaurants, but this has to be the very best & wouldn't go elsewhere for this type of meal. May it long continue

Tonight we decided to give this place another go after having given up due to a hair in the chips plus the quality being dry tasting as if we were getting lunchtimes chips or even the day before.So still no improvement I'm afraid chaps. The same clumped lump of dry chips as seen in the pic.My sons left it all.

I had a sit down fish and chip lunch that included a cup of tea and bread and butter.with my wife at the "Seniors Special" tables. The staff were efficient and polite, the meal was fine and the price was fair. Will come again.

We have used this fish & chip shop previously and it was lovely. Not last night! Ordered cod & chips & battered sausage and chips. The only positive was it was still piping hot when I got it home. Other than that it was awful. Greasy chips. Soggy batter & and the fish wasn't even White, Grey looking. It tasted really strange too. Clearly not fresh fish. It was sitting on a plate in the heated part of the cabinet. Nobody else was in there being served, so don't know how long it had been there. Shame as this is the nearest to where we live, but will drive further afield in the future. The girl who served me (long dark hair, tied back), was not very friendly and threw the chips onto the 2 papers she wrapped the food in. All in all, sadly, bad service and awful food.

As I was being served my order a young girl with long black hair came in to start her shift.she went straight behind the counter were the food was being dished out and changed her clothes, but then she started to comb and tie her hair up.i complained to the person I thought was in charge but he just shrugged his shoulders and said what's wrong with that. I have been using this shop for a number of years but no more.

Realmente no puedo entender las malas críticas de esta encantadora tienda de fish and chips. Mi familia y yo hemos comido en varias ocasiones y ha sido delicioso cada vez. Pescado muy bien cocinado (especialmente el abadejo) y patatas fritas encantadoras, así como salsa tártara. . . El servicio es excelente y siempre está limpio y acogedor. ¡Muy recomendable! !

Hoy entré con mi familia y pensé en una bonita y pequeña cafetería cerca del mar. Nos sentamos y pedimos papas fritas y pescado para un niño 5. 50 y papas fritas y un pastel de pescado para un niño. Pedí un bacalao grande y papas fritas 8. 90 y mi compañero pidió papas fritas y un gran pastel de pescado (les preguntamos si están hechos aquí. No fue la respuesta, así que probó nuevamente calamares, por favor, "eso también se compró", así que terminó solo con pescado y papas fritas.

All stuff I ordered was already cooked and was very dry . Batter was already off when I got home . Considering it is a expensive shop ,it was poor . Would prefer to wait for my food than eat dried out batter

Chips are OK, but portions are really quite small for how expensive they are. One positive is that meals are wrapped in paper so minimal waste.

¡No daría estrellas, pero no es una opción! ! He comido aquí tanto llevar y sentarse en numerosas ocasiones a lo largo de los años. Pero esta vez fue horrible. Las patatas fritas eran horribles, grasientas, cocinadas, era casi como si hubieran sido fritas y recalentadas. La salchicha machacada de mi esposo estaba cubierta con espesa masa sin cocer y la salchicha era dura como una roca, y ni siquiera podía cortarla. Su bacalao era dos piezas fritas juntas, pero parecía congelado y no fresco. El personal en el área de la caja debe dejar de tocarse el pelo y las caras y dejar los teléfonos. ¿Lo que ha sucedido? ? ? ?

Estoy muy decepcionado. 2 savaloys, 1 salchicha, 3 bacalaos medianos, 6 nuggets y 2 chips supuestamente grandes para 27. 00! ! ! Guau. No hay sonrisas de las personas que sirven. No educado hola. Las fichas son duras y dos porciones grandes eran porciones increíblemente pequeñas en realidad. Lamentablemente, hay lugares mucho mejores a nivel local que aquí.

Pretty much sums it up. Cod was bland, frozen possibly? The batter is so greasy that it glued itself to the paper wrap, half the chips weren't cooked and ended up in the dog, as well as a nice black hair in the chip bag, fantastic waste of £8.

We have been on several occasions for an eat in lunch. Lovely food, friendly service and a smile. Bankers at Hangleton could learn a lesson from these boys.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, this chippy does gluten free Fish and Chips, I can't say enough how much I appreciate this effort from them and it is a real treat every now and again to be able to have really tasty well cooked Fish and Chips from a gluten free environment.

Hard to get carried away writing about a fish and chip shop but this one in Southwick Square approximately ties for best in the area with the Ropetackle one in Shoreham... at least in my opinion.

How do you review a chip shop? They do chips. Fish, burgers etc. Fish never too greasy, chips always freshly done , staff brisk and efficient... not tried the eat-in side but the food will be the same.

Popped in for takeaway Saturday night ,the staff were lovely and friendly as always and the fish and chips were delicious , cooked fresh and piping hot . Thoroughly enjoyed m dinner - thanks guys

Muy bien la calidad de la comida disfrutamos de mi bacalao y patatas fritas, en otras ocasiones cuando entran a la tienda me dan yo el pan de pita con ensalada y falafels que también ha afectado el lugar. Estaba muy satisfecho con el servicio...

Me fui con mis amigos ya que estábamos fuera de la zona y la opción de comer en fue muy servicial, la comida era estupenda y el personal era encantador

La comida de aquí antes y estaba muy bien. Pedimos la comida y esta noche era pésima, el pastel de pescado parecía que había sido perforado antes de colocarlo en el envase y sabor rancio. Pedí un savaloy y terminamos con una salchicha jumbo que era floja y sabía de nada las fichas donde lleno de grasa y todos pegaban. Nunca pedir desde aquí de nuevo.

No te puedes equivocar con pescado y patatas fritas, pero las tradicionales son bastante pequeñas porciones y se tiende a conseguir un montón de cosas de patatas fritas crujientes en vez de los grandes, macizos pequeños.

Always greeted when we arrive. Prompt service and generous portions. As I am fussy with my chips I like to ask to have them crispy. They are always happy to oblige. Go once a week . Would recommend.

This is the nearest fish and chip restaurant to the theatre in Southwick and, as such, gets a lot of trade from the audience and technical staff alaike. It was reckoned to be one of the best around and I have eaten both in and as a takeaway for many years.So comes to Saturday when I went in to order sausage a chips twice)It was about 6.45 before a show.When we opened the pacakage there was a LOT of small gravelly bits of chips and two sausages that were so hard that when you did break them it was obvious they had been fried before. The batter was about 1/4" thick and tasted rancid. The chips were obviously refied as they had that hollow dry taste about them.Later on it the evening I had tewrrible stomach cramps and paid many a visit to the small room.Saying to fellow members at the theatre I discover that at least one other person has suffered and several from long waits to be served.It will follow that I will not go there again and visit the local fish and chip shop in Manor Road.A shame as they uysed to be the best.Not any more!!

I really like the chips from here and they have some unusual (for a chippy) menu options also - tried the halloumi pitta once, it was really good but a bit too big for me to finish.One of the best selling points though is their staff, who are always friendly and somehow always remember my order, even though I don't go there often. They could use some more comfy seating while you are waiting but that's a minor point.

Staff are very nice, quality of the fish & chips is good, but I think the batter lets it down.It is really crispy, but because the surface of the batter is so spiky (like a tempura batter but thicker), it holds onto the frying oil making it quite greasy, which is a real shame, as the fish was nice.

Me and my partner decided to get fish and chips on Friday at a place in the square. We waited 30 minutes for our dinner (understandble being a Friday night and peak time), we paid £10.80 for fish and chips, upon arriving home we realised it was chips and batter with minimal fish.so called fish went in the bin and was he most expensive chips we have ever had. Would not recommend.
