Visited again....Service is utterly appalling...probably worse than the ladt time we were there.....Food is OK...but 30 odd minutes in Queue to get it is ridiculous... Coupled with Staff who couldn't care less...definitely an experience we will not be repeating.... Can be good...but the serving staff need a good kick up the proverbial... Difficult to think up a less efficient way of serving customers...

Terrible. Cutlery was filthy, had to ask for more. They brought some from the dishwasher and again it was covered in caked on food. I ordered the mushroom and chestnut pie as im vegetarian. Looked lovely when it came. bit into it and it was a steak pie! Won't be going back there!

Good comfy chairs and staffs were all nice. Ordered Korean chicken with rice, rainbow slaw and kimchi, although not looking too appetising, it was delicious, minus couple of stars for the missing rainbow slaw as was quite looking for it, added another star for a free kids meal, very good value for families during school holiday

This John Lewis the place to eat is in need of a full revamp, its been like this for years, very dull interior & uninspiring! The staff also need to be more friendly and stop looking so miserable. The food, cakes, coffees, etc, are all excellent!

The staff are normally friendly but will be cooler at busy time .You can understand it but if you don’t want waste your big sandwich ,they don’t offer any packaging for you. The reason is to avoid food allergies to you .Excuse me ,I just ate half at your restaurant. Just because very busy , if it is not routine thing ,they don’t want take time to do that .

Asked for vegetarian menu. That was my first mistake. Clearly didn't know their own menu. I sat with a coffee and waited 15 minutes to be told my quiche wasn't available. So was offered a refund or veg curry. Took the curry. Waited another 15 minutes was served in a rushed passive aggressive way with a forced apology. Veg curry was bland. Staff were clearly stressed. John Lewis I expected better. Disappointed. Won't be returning.

Only visiting as I had John Lewis vouchers offering free cake and drinks. Well presented cakes and drinks. However, taste wise, these aren't great, not terrible but does not delight. Tables are clean and well maintained. Staff are well meaning but are neither efficient nor have any appearance of wanting to be there. Love John Lewis but wouldn't frequent the cafe unless I was using complimentary vouchers. Sorry!

You'd think for a café as long standing as this one, that an order for a hot chocolate and a coffee would be easy enough. Not so. When I asked for a decaf americano, I was told that 'the machine doesn't do decaf'. Apparently, if you order decaf, regardless of the type of coffee you want, you get a tube sachet. I ordered a 'regular' americano instead. The hot chocolate was more water than milk topped with a frothy scum. The 'americano' was like dish water. Aside the quality of the drinks, the wait is painfully slow - almost as if they weren't expecting customers to come at 11:00 for a coffee. The decor is now tired and drab and the staff (but who knows what's going on behind the scenes) just give the impression that they really don't want to be there. When will I learn not to go there. I guess I always hope for the best. I guess John Lewis doesn't care one bit.

Been here a few times now and they make an excellent cappuccino not so keen on the scones I think they glaze top with egg and it makes them far too hard but that's just down to my personal taste I also had a ham panini/toastie once it was ok wanted ham and onion but it was ham and cheese on menu ask if could have ham and onion but because it wasn't on menu didn't get but I'm sure they would have had some onions in the kitchen because I'm sure i seen it in a salad plenty of space to sit staff polite and organised well worth going even if it's just for a cuppa ☕

An oasis away from the frenetic retail therapy that consumes the locals. The service and the patrons hark from a bygone age, so don't expect the brand name dressed, ear pod wearing, more makeup than a corpse, denizens of two floors below. This is a mercifully quiet, civilized experience that is worth seeking out when you are at the end of your ability to tolerate the crowds of zombies that shuffle the streets. Thoroughly recommended

I cannot put into words how bad this cafe was, I waited 30 mins in the queue to order the service was unorganised, in fact chaotic, the sourdough turkey toasty was good but totally let down by the customer service, we had to ask for the basics, a knife and fork, a serviette, salt and pepper. Stayed overnight at the beginning of January. Had to go back for 3 nights so booked in again. Clean, modern room. Plenty of hot water. Adjoining bar is lively with happy hour every afternoon/early evening. Soho restaurant where you can eat in the evening and a lovely breakfast. Buffet service but you can ask for eggs how you want them. Reasonable price too. Special mention for Steven on reception and Gani in the restaurant but all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The area is very nice with lots of hotels with bars and restaurants so something for everyone. Some nice little shops nearby. Very close to the city centre. We will deffinatly use this hotel again next time we're up in Newcastle.
