Gosforth Chippy in Newcastle upon Tyne

I have only requested delivery twice and both times the delivery driver has gone miles out of the way to a completely different address. The first time the driver was very apologetic and got me another meal. This time it was a new driver who went to the wrong address. It took 20 minutes for him to find my address and the food was lookwarm. I rang the chippy just before he arrived and spoke with the Manager who was quite off hand and made it seem like it was my responsibility to ensure the driver came to the right address. She didn’t offer any redress for the late delivery or food. She was having a two way conversation with me and another staff member which is very unprofessional especially as the driver could hear it. I’ve been a regular customer at this chippy, but will never go back again now. Poor customer service and communication.

Would have gave 5 but they stopped pre orders. That's a shame . Otherwise great.

Been going here for 20+ years and always good. People who moan about price need a reality check: everything is more expensive and it’s a business where they need to pay their staff!

Been only a handful of times but everytime I've had a warm welcome. Staff have always been welcoming. Food has always been very very nice. Price is ok for current times. Try it and I guarantee you'll go back.

The food was amazing! Nothing wrong with orders or anything, we've been using Gosforth chippy for quite a bit now and rarely anything is wrong with the food!

I have been going to this chippy for the last few months now (once a week Friday or Saturday lunch time). I can honestly say the fish is lovely nice and thick flaky chunks and just the right amount for me most of the time although some people may want a bigger portion. Too many chips for me but better too many than too few and they taste lovely and like the fish seem to be cooked fresh. I believe I read a review about consistency about the size of the fish and that although it is difficult when you fillet a fish to get a consistent size it sometimes seems bigger or smaller each time. The staff are really nice and the lovely manager who cooks the fish sometimes gives an extra cod bite if she thinks the fish may be a bit smaller than normal and that makes up for most of the size difference. I would definitely recommend this chippy and will be back soon. (the happy smiling bald man).

Always impressed with gosforth chippy we have visited lots over the years when we have fish and chips. Staff are all very polite and friendly, food is top notch, highly recommended! Excellent portion sizes too!!

I ordered from here although I read some of the negative reviews I thought I would still give it a go as there is equally good reviews. And I think some people just expect too much these days or they’re just complete Karen’s or have nothing better to do than complain so I thought I’d try it myself regardless. The delivery driver was lovely I had misplaced my £20 for takeaway so I had to give him £2 coins I was pretty embarrassed by that but he was happy regardless bless him he was lovely. The food was also packaged well and it was absolutely boiling! Which is always a good sign no one likes cold food. I thought the food was very nice the only thing I could point out is that me personally I like my batter on my cod bites to be really crispy but it wasn’t that crispy however I know this is due to it being hot and in the container so it’s understandable also the fish wasn’t too flaky and soft it was a little rubbery but it still tasted nice and I ate it. But it’s a high street chippy at the end of the day I think a lot of negative comments on here are people expecting too much for the prices they actually pay. But I can say its delivery was good the packaging was good, it was hot and it was tasty regardless also I asked for a bag of batter and obviously that was very nice. I would try this place again in future. Thank you!

A community staple providing excellent food and service that feels like family. I had never had the beef-dripping preparation of fish n chips but boy was I blown away! I will definitely be returning when I'm back in the Newcastle area.

I have been going to Gosfoth Chippy for nearly 20 years but tonight was my last time . I know the cost of living rises mean that take aways have to either cut portion sizes and or put up prices . They have done both but worst of all they are trying to cut quality too . Discusting fish , skin on both sides and was rubbery !! Horrible greasy chips !! So sad . Never again !!

I have been to this chippy a number of times. It has always been on the better side of average, but I have always returned as it is local and the service is very quick, even when it is busy. On our last visit we called in for our tea prior to driving to the ferry in Cairnryan for a short trip to Northern Ireland, so left our pets in the pet shop two doors down before returning to the chippy. On leaving the car in the space outside the shop, we were angrily gestured at through the window by the owner, to which we attempted to say we would be in to order food in a moment. On returning and walking into the shop to order food we were repeatedly verbally abused by the owner and staff, who claimed they own that space, that we were "disrespecting" their business, and that we hadn't really been intending to come in and only did it because they shouted at us. To be honest, it all seemed a bit unnecessary and over the top. I would have scored this 3/5 had it not been for the verbal abuse, so I have deducted one point to reflect this. I am not going to be petty and unreasonably give it 1 - the food is fine, the attitude in my view is not. We certainly won't be back, but it isn't because the food is bad, we just don't want to support businesses owned by such rude and unreasonable people.

Go-to chippy in Gosforth - I've been there a few times, and haven't had a bad batch yet. The delivery fees are reasonable too, and it's worth trying the lunch specials. Take away only, but parking is fairly convenient, and the nearby park is a perfect place to go to enjoy your meal.

Just been here tonight (27/12/22) for a substantial takeaway, food was good, but what an attitude on who I presume was the owner, I felt sorry for the young girl that was serving, who was very polite, We all get stressed at times but there’s a time and place to vent it and that place is not in front of your paying customers

Beautiful food! Very fresh! (came at 4.30pm Sunday 17th July husband went in) we don’t live in gosforth but I have to say we have both just sat in the car and ate and my word! Honestly beautiful! Husband said the lady that served him was very pleasant too! Definitely be back!

The staff always displayed a couldn’t care less attitude and substandard service towards customers … but as they are just across the road I tried them again … but no more. The two bits of fish on display looked overdone and so I asked for fresh fish and was treat with eye rolling and outright reluctance. Gave up and went elsewhere…

Been using this chip shop for years. Rose and her daughter Julie keep the shop immaculate, the fish is lovely, chips lovely and staff lovely. Best fish and chip shop in Newcastle so ignore all the negative, stupid comments. We eat her every week and have done for years. Well done rose and girls

Just had a delivery of 3 fish and chips to my place of work. It should have been 4 fish and chips and 4 mushy peas. Not a complicated order by any streach. Paid £3.50 delivery charge and as the total cost was £37.50 we even gave him extra so it was a straight £40!! Opened the boxes and I thought we'd ordered kids meals!! First and last time from this plaice😂.

Just had some food delivered, which was prompt and food was still hot when we got it. We had cod bites with chips, mince pie, chips, portion of curry and batter.. Everything was delicious and portion size was, to be honest too much, but what we had was amazing, would definitely recommend this chippy to anyone and would use this chippy again.

I have came to this place for my entire life, I was raised on this food. Honesty the best fish and chips I have ever had me and my mates all love this place. Never had a bad meal here in my life. Go now literally best food on the world 10/10

I have been visiting Gosforth Chippy regularly over the last 9 years. I think the standard has slipped a little but it is still above average overall. The portion sizes are good and the fish is fresh. The chips are more variable, but usually fine. The home delivery service is slow and also more expensive than others I have used, a £3 delivery charge to bring the food half a mile is a good incentive to eat something else instead.

Absolutely awful. An hour and fifteen minutes late, would not answer the phone. When the order eventually arrived it was also incorrect. I emailed the chip shop the following day but weeks later have not received a response. Looking at other reviews on here they’re obviously taking on more than they can cater for/deliver. Happy enough to take our money though. Shameful.

I’ve been to this fish and chip shop regularly for the last 7 years and have NEVER had a bad meal. It’s one of the best fish and chip shops I’ve ever been to! They are always happy to accommodate dietary requirements and I’ve been impressed with how they’ve operated during the coronavirus pandemic. Ignore the bad reviews and give it a try. You won’t regret it!

No hemos tenido problemas hasta que pedimos hace un par de semanas y la comida nunca llegó. De hecho, logré comunicarme y me dijeron que habíamos puesto la recogida, no la entrega, lo cual era inusual, ya que normalmente es la entrega predeterminada. Sin embargo, obtuvimos un reembolso y decidimos intentarlo nuevamente esta noche con lo que pensamos que no fue exitoso una vez más, ya que no hubo entrega y lo verifiqué dos veces cuando hice el pedido. A pesar de que la comida es de buena calidad, no volveremos a utilizar Gosforth Chippy. ¿Cómo diablos se supone que va a saber que la entrega se ha realizado si no ha habido un golpe en la puerta o el timbre de la puerta? Entendemos el distanciamiento social pero otros repartidores han tocado o tocado el timbre para avisarnos que ha llegado la entrega.

Así que estoy a punto de hacer una tostada de frijoles.No me puedo quejar de la comida del Gosforth Chippy; sin embargo, esto me ha dejado rascándome la cabeza. ¿Por qué tomar el dinero de alguien y luego no entregarlo?El número de teléfono está permanentemente ocupado, por lo que no puede comunicarse con nadie.Si va a administrar un servicio de entrega a domicilio, hágalo correctamente o no se moleste en absoluto: es una pérdida de tiempo para todos, cuando toma el dinero pero no entrega la mercancía.

EVITAR A TODO COSTO. No sé qué pasó en los últimos meses, pero es horrible. Mi pescado llegó crudo, la comida en general estaba fría con una capa de manteca solidificada. Mi novio pidió una hamburguesa con queso, llegó un trozo de carne rebozada, sin pan. Llamamos para preguntar, la mujer del teléfono dijo: bueno, no es mi culpa que hayas leído mal el sitio web, también hay una opción para ordenar con un moño. Él dijo, pero no es una hamburguesa con queso, su actitud fue espantosa, dijo, bueno, solo córtalo, hay queso adentro. Esto continuó y, como gerente, disciplinaría a este miembro del personal por su tono y actitud. Living in Gosforth my whole life I've never visited a better chippy. Excellent quality food at a reasonable price. Fast friendly service and delicious food. Would recommend.

He estado usando este chippy durante 30 años y nunca he tenido una mala comida. Parece que los peces se han vuelto más grandes recientemente y, al haber sido forzado recientemente a probar los Gormans tan alabados, solo puedo decir que mi compañero y yo preferimos las comidas aquí. El otro lugar tenía ese sabor a 'aceite viejo', estos siempre tienen un sabor increíble y fresco, un pescado hermoso, una pasta deliciosa y unas patatas fritas encantadoras. Used this shop for years , quite a while back I rang and asked if I could place an order via the phone, got told quite cheekily that no you Carnt you can standing the queue like everyone else, by a bunch of young chavs

Use this fish shop at least once a month and normally happy with what we order. Tonight we ordered two fish and chips, one was a large haddock, which was the worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. The fish was tough as was the batter. I think it had been cooked ages and kept warm far too long.

This place is located close to where I live, so consequently I am eating more fish and chips than ever before in my life. I haven't found another to beat it, though Coleman's in South Shields may be equally good.

Haven't visited Gosforth Chippy for years, thought we would try it. Very impressed with quality of fish, I had haddock it was beautiful, big flakes and nice batter. The Chips were also good, would definitely recommend.

Rang from the local pub as know that the haddock here is cooked to order. Upon arrival 5 minutes later, 2 large haddocks were ready, and they were superb. Enormous, huge pieces of rich white meat, thin & crispy batter, and soooo tasty!

El problema que encontré es, sin embargo, la mayoría de los lugares en Londres y otras zonas en general es la falta de pescado fresco y papas fritas.

Aunque Vivo a pocas millas de distancia de este fish and chips siempre uso. He probado otros en la vecindad, pero ninguno se compara con este. Me pase varios sólo para llegar a ella. Cata mejor fritos, y mejor, la comida se puede encontrar. Lo recomiendo totalmente

My daughter went into here last night to buy some fish and chips.....only one other person in with two older ladies cooking and two young girls serving. As I was parked right outside I could see all the activity....where the two girls totally ignored her!!!! i went in and asked if she had been served and all of sudden they seemed to notice she was there and took her order.... total rip off charged £4.39 for 3 tiny measly cod bites and lots of chips....used to be consistent and good....not now....don't waste your money go elsewhere!!!!

We ordered haddock &chips twice and 1 gravy, with delivery it cost a little under £15. I can only describe the fish as thin small and overcooked, beyond disappointed as this is 2nd time we have tried the fish and both experiences were rubbish.

I called in on Monday night, bought fish, chips, curry sauce, mushy pea's and pie. The chips were tasty enough however the fish only half filled the box. I then found the majority was batter. They pea's were completely tasteless and looked like they'd been topped up with water. Not acceptable for £6.10.

The fish is always very nicely cooked and is served with lovely chips. The portion size is not massive which we find as a positive not a negative. Would definitely recommend and Im very happy to re visit

I heard that the other fish/chips places are more "classic" but actually I really like the chips in this place. I do not recommend fish and mushy peas - tried better one.

As a huge fan of fish & chips and having pretty much sampled most, if not all, of the local establishments over the years (and further afield) I have to say that Gosforth Chippy is simply head and shoulders above all others. Consistently outstanding and never lets me down.

Lovely fish and chips would defiantly recommend. Don't expect to be served in turn or be spoken to politely. Rudest staff ever!!

I have recently moved to Gosforth from Tynemouth and thought I'd try a local chippy. 90 minutes for delivery (!!!!!) and decidedly average food. I can't believe the skinflint portion of fish !!! It's like a kids meal. My fork is bigger! First and last order. Guess I'll be driving back to the coast in future.

Tried this Fishy after not being there for a year or two. The chips and fish were very good. Pity the fish appear to be getting smaller from the last time I was in. Typical mushy peas, india sauce etc. Again its a pity the india sauce does not have a choice.Still good and worth a try.

We got a takeaway from here last night. It was fast as it was all standing there. On a slow night, cooking fresh would be preferable for all - less waste and tastier for the customer.As it was though, we got half a piece of overcooked fish (it was dry) and mushy warm chips for just over £6 including a garlic dip is not great in my view.

Bought fish n chips here for years, they were always top notch. The last 3 or 4 stops here have been poor though. Love this chippy , always get them from here , I usually go & pick them up . Always spot on , staff a bit gloomy especially the manager , even though I'm a regular she never speaks & seems to be on the staffs backs all the time but we can't all be happy people I guess . It really bothers me when people review a shop by how fast there delivered food was. Delivery drivers have no choice but to travel the same route as themselves so are these moaners racing drivers breaking the law?

Gosforth Chippy used to be the best fish and chip shop in the area but standards have fallen. Our delivery arrived two hours late - after we'd reminded them - and wasn't hot. Come on, Gosforth Chippy, you can do better than this.

I've used this place for a long time and notice the fish portions getting smaller and smaller which now makes it very expensive when compared to others which are just as nice. A shame

This chippy was recommended by family and its a revelation! The chips were terrific, the fish although not huge was amazing. The deliveries are prompt and the service in the shop is very good and traditional!Please don't change!

In a nutshell, faultlessly prepared fish, limp chips, dehydrated mushy peas and sullen staff they couldn’t care less! They are as cold as their drinks fridge …..so 2 points 1 for the fish and 1 for the very cold drinks, not good enough.
