A lovely cosy, comfy bar with a wide selection of drinks in offer. My partner was a particular fan of the Ullswater Blonde real ale. The rhubarb gin is delicious and so is the strawberry and lime. There is plenty of seating but has lots of little places for a cosy chat.

We used this bar as it is part of the Patterdale Hotel where we were staying. As a beer drinker I couldn’t fault the quality of the hand pulled beers, the ‘Wainwright’ in particular was very good. There is also a good range of gins and a wine list to suit all budgets.

Popular with both Residents and passing walkers. Good Ale,good food and friendly bar staff. If the weather is good you can drink and eat at one of the many tables located in the garden.

Popped into here for a very late lunch and the place has no character or soul. Ordered chicken, sweet corn and noodle soup that arrived almost immediately. It was alright, but had no noodles. Much prefer the other eating venues in the Patterdale area that have better food and a lot more character....

Visited here on Sunday 30th after an ascent of Hartsop Dodd. Chose the broccoli and Stilton soup that was really nice, which I would recommend. The surroundings were okay within the hotel, although my chair had one wobbly side to it. The service was pleasant. Some okay real ales served and there is a huge beer garden at the front. An okay experience if you haven't been here before.

The bar was quiet and well staffed, so the service was excellent. The staff were very friendly, pleasant and helpful. The menu had a reasonable choice and it changed every day. The food was good and well presented. They also had two local beers on hand pumps, very unusual for a hotel, and more than the local pub. Prices of food were very reasonable. We were led to believe that visitors were very unlikely to get a table in the restaurant as it is much smaller than the hotel accommodates. We were lucky enough to be able to sit outside and enjoy the stunning views.

Visited Patterdale as a group of 35 to walk (31/5/14) Helvellyn. On completion of the walk we stopped off at The Patterdale Hotel for a few welcome drinks taken in the beer garden. we returned later after dining at the White Lion Inn only to be told that we would not be served after 8.30pm due to a private function, music etc!!!?? A large sign was placed on the front door I'm sure to remind us! By chance, a member of our well behaved group at approx 8.35pm by a very pleasant member of staff who received an almighty reprimand from a very obnoxious and rude female manager. We took our business back to the white lion! Thing is, we explained we were happy in the beer garden and had no desire to be entertained at the function. Lots more food was consumed and beer drank in a the the White Lion. I'd be concerned that a manager turns good business away during peak season, I'd also suggest she look up the definition of good service!!! Great beer garden...that's it! Won't go again, I'd advise the Lion to anybody visiting the area

This bar is part of the Patterdale Hotel. The hotel has a restaurant which seems to be mainly for residents' use. (We did ask for a table one evening, but were told hotel was busy so no spare tables.) The lounge is nicely decorated with modern wall paper and seat coverings, plus beautiful glass photographs. The carpet is traditional looking and perhaps wasn't replaced during the makeover. We ate here twice. Both times we ordered as soon as the kitchen opened and the food came very quickly. The first night's salmon was good and fairly tasty. The next night the plaice was rather dry and flavourless. It came with roasted veg and chips which were both good. Nothing exciting really, but it was good solid food in decent portions which was welcome after a day on the hills. There were only a couple of tables which were comfortable for eating at, the rest of the tables were low, which would mean bending over to eat. There are lots of tables outside. Staff were pleasant. We chose to eat here rather than a nearby pub, due to the strong smell of chip fat in the pub on the occasion we popped in for a drink.

If you want a really tasty chicken burger then this is the place to go. They also do really good chips, not your typical fast food ones.Probably the only gripe is that they because they haven’t opened
