We visited yesterday evening after a day hiking up Helvellyn and we was in need of a pub food fix and after all the amazing reviews we thought we would give this place a try.The quality of the food was amazing we had the pigs in blankets and calamari to start and gammon steak for mains and it was cooked to perfection. The staff and Owner were lovely and we even ended up staying for alot more drinks than we should have due to how friendly the staff were and how amazing the atmosphere in the pub. (Sore heads this morning!!)Highly recommend visiting this place we would rate higher than 5* if we could!

We stopped by here for some evening drinks. We had already eaten before coming here, but looking at the food it all looked good and we kind of wished we ate here now. That said, we took a seat outside with the outer heaters going which was nice. The drinks were good and the staff super pleasant and welcoming.

We used the takeaway service during our recent stay in the area and we were chuffed with our choice as the food was spot on. Word of warning, "on the large side" is not to be underestimated as portions were huge which is not a bad thing.

We saw they had gluten free options on their menu which where highlighted with GF next to them. However, when I asked about gluten free and said I was coeliac, they decided they wouldn't serve me. They said food is fried in the same oil and the kitchen was too small to guarantee it would be free from cross contamination. You should not advertise gluten free if you cannot cater for it.

Went to the pig last night, got a table no bother had to sign in for the track & trace, the barman was wonderful & gave us a drink whilst we were studying the menus, there was no rush to order food, he kept coming by asking if we were ok for drinks & chatting to us.. The food didn't disappoint, slightly expensive, but huge portions... Well worth a visit if your in WindermereJoanne & Paul...

We called in to the Pig for a glass of hot mulled wine after a day out in the cold to warm up but because Covid can't infect you in a pub if you have food, we decided to play safe and order a meal. I went for the pig platter (photo's) and The strife went for the suckling pig with mashed potatoes. The portions are enormous....Not just big.....ENORMOUS!! the best scotch egg I've ever eaten, the 4 pigs in blankets are 4 massive sausages each in a full bacon rasher with ham and a colossal hunk of suckling pork I challenge anyone to finish this in one go......oh and a bucket of the best crispy chunky chips. Amazing!!!!! All this in a very cosy, and well stocked very clean bar. Will be going here a lot from now on!Thank youNeil & Lottie

The Pig is overall fine, yet no more than fine. It is expensive with what is a surcharge for being in Windermere, a burger being approx. £15 which is I’d say £3-£5 on top of what I’d expect however charges this due to its location, whilst the quality doesn’t match the price. The beef itself is very large, sort of a spam consistency, whilst I don’t doubt fresh and potentially from local suppliers the meat itself looked like something you’d see on Kitchen nightmares. The chips were ridiculously big, and crumbly in the middle. Limited lagers/craft ales on tap, I think they had Bud-light and Camden. Again £5 for a pint, which is what you’d expect from Lake District prices. The owner (who I believe was the owner) was fine in short bursts however a bit irritating and from reading previous reviews where there has been a reply I can see if pushed his petulant child comes out. Worth a visit if your a tourist, but unlikely to return. Positives they are adhered to Covid restrictions as best as they can, hand sanitiser available etc.

Great food, the cured maple bacon chops were delicious. Nice chunky chips. My girlfriend had the Bobotie which was also great... just was a bit disappointed with the service. Not sure if I did something to offend the waiter/manager but service was abrupt and borderline rude...when asking for salt and sauce for my chips (which wasn’t offered) he responded with a laugh a “no” and some remark about it being sacrilege. It was a shame as the food was absolutely fine, just seems that the front of house staff are taking their kitchen for granted and are treating their guests with contempt

Popped in for lunch, food excellent quality very good portions, tasty, cocktails lovely, reasonable prices for food & drinks. Social distancing terrible but could have just been the table we were at, it was right in the door way everyone coming in was touching the back of one person and table next to us too close. So although food was lovely would not return as did not feel safe. But other tables most probably ok.

The staff were lovely and the food even better. Just been for a meal and drink for two early evening. We had crayfish, pork scratchings, chunky chips and a salmon salad. I am gluten free and the salad with crayfish, olives and chick peas was one of the tastiest (not boring) salads I’ve ever had. Chunky chips were massive, tasty and gluten free too. No booking system so we were expecting g to wait but as it was early it was relatively quiet when we got there, but busy by the time we left. Certainly recommend this place if you are visiting Windermere. Nice relaxing atmosphere and tasty food with all the trimmings.Sorry only pic we took was of the room and not our food.

We came here for our last meal of our stay in the Lakes. It’s walk ins only and we were sat quite promptly. The table was a little bit sticky, however it did seem the restaurant was low on staff. The main chap running things was so lovely and 100% knew what he was doing, however the waitress working along side him was a bit out the know all the while friendly. This deffo isn’t the place if you don’t like pork because there’s not a great deal else. However my husband got the pastie and I got the duck and hoisin pizza with houllumi fries. It was all excellent food and we really enjoyed it. The cocktails were fab and my husband was over the knot to see corona on draft! We had a lovely meal, maybes not the best service but they were doing their best. It’s definitely worth a visit. Not super fancy so you could go in any attire and not feel out of place.

I would recommend that you do not need starters or to share. The staff were very friendly and attentive, they paid attention to social distancing which made us feel safe. Track and trace system up and running. The only down side was that the restaurant does not take bookings and therefore we worried about getting a table. We were staying in the nearby area and ate at the pig twice both times were excellent! My fiancé had the same pizza on both occasions (I think it was called the piggy pizza, mainly because it was all meat!) While I had the tandoori chicken burger the first time followed by the cheese cake, as well as a Long Island iced tea very yummy indeed. On the second time around I felt I should mix it up and decided on what was essentially ham, egg and chips but was so much more. The pork was glazed in maple syrup and this just made it fabulous. I stuck with cocktails again and this always makes food taste better so even if you just want to pop in for a drink it is well worth stopping here. If I lived nearby it would be very difficult to drag me away from this place as it has such a nice atmosphere and like I say the food is fantastic. Definitely worth the money and bonus we didn’t have to book on either occasion even during the current pandemic, but we still got sat very quickly. We will definitely come back again when we stay in the area.

My husband and I came here after reading the positive trip adviser reviews. Firstly, this place is popular and you can’t book so arrive early(ish), we arrived at 7 and got the last table after that people were queuing for quite a while. Service was a little slow not horribly slow but it was noticeable. However, all the staff were very friendly and helpful so I think if you had made one of them aware - it would have been fine. (I don’t think they like to rush people). The cocktails are strong and expensive but you only really need one. The food was good. I had the Piggy Chips which were down as a light bite (I couldn’t finish them) and my husband had the bacon maple chops. We were both satisfied at the end of the meal.

It's difficult to actually rate the restaurant as we never got to actually eat or drink anything at The Pig. I was excited to go as we'd had a recommendation from a friend, but our experience didn't match my expectations at all. First, when we arrived we had to wait outside in a queue. I wouldn't be a fan of this in regular times, but during a pandemic it seemed like a very sloppy approach to being Covid-safe. We waited in the queue for 20 minutes before we were shown to our table, which we spotted had be wiped down with window cleaner - again, not very Covid-safe, plus in our interactions with the waiter he put his hands on our stools and leaned in very closely without wearing a Face mask or any other PPE. The waiter brought us food menus but no drinks menu. I spotted a dish that had pine nuts in and asked if it was possible to have it without the pine nuts, as I can't eat them, and we asked for a drinks menu. I made it clear that if it wasn't possible to prepare that dish differently I was happy to eat something elseAfter bringing us a drinks menu the waiter went to ask the staff in the kitchen if my request was possible. When he returned, we tried to order a bottle of wine, but the waiter explained that because there are nuts in the kitchen actually they weren't comfortable preparing food for me at all. I explained that I have an intolerance, not an allergy, and that as long as they aren't an ingredient of my food I would be fine. He went back down to check with the kitchen, but returned and said they still weren't happy serving me, and that they're currently being sued by someone who said they had an intolerance but turned out to have an allergy, and asked us to leave. All told we wasted about 50 minutes not eating at The Pig - 20 minutes in the queue, 30 minutes sat at the table. They never took our drinks order - so when they asked us to leave they couldn't even offer us a free drink to cushion the blow. They did offer to seat us in a sister restaurant Brown Sugar, but we had been the night before, and the music was very loud in there, which again made us concerned about Covid-safety.If it's not possible to guarantee diners' safety because of the conditions in the kitchen, the restaurant should make this very clear to people who are looking to eat there. Even a note on the website would have told us not to bother. If they're hamstrung by restricted space because of Covid-restrictions, this might explain why they hadn't got around to putting an update on the website - but their sloppy attitude to other aspects of Covid-safety makes me suspect this isn't the case. Overall our high expectations were met with a deeply disappointing experience. After being kicked out we went across the road to Cafe Italia, who quickly seated and served us with no fuss, despite their restaurant also serving nuts.

On a solo trip I like to dine every evening at the same place , if I like it on the first evening. And so it was I dined three times at The Pig. Overall a very varied menu, the Rather Large would suit those with big appetites, possibly after a day fell walking. On my first evening though I had a fabulous salmon salad, a pizza on the second and on third and final evening just had a tasty soup of the day (Leek and potato) followed by as a treat an absolutely yummy caramelised popcorn and sea salt cheesesteak with strawberries and mascarpone ice cream. The portions were big and we were both stuffed at the end of it. We decided to go back the next night as we liked it and thought why not. After a little wait outside the server popped out and told us they were busy but would get us in as soon as he could. No issue with this, we were in no rush. Maybe 20 mins or so we were in. Me and my Girlfriend arrived on the night of Aug 17th and we decided to go The Pig due to the reviews being good, therefore we thought it would be a good place to eat. We arrived and were met by a really nice server who served us most of the night, even though she said she was new, she was really nice and I saw her checking on plenty of people. Sadly, the food we order wasn't up to par - the sides: the olives and the halloumi fingers were really good and probably the best part of the meal, but the pig platter wasn't what we expected. The pork scratchings had hair on, they were really chewy and had no real flavour, same with the pigs in blanket. They didn't really taste of much. The scotch egg was the only pretty decent part of the platter. The house cider we got just didn't taste good at all. I ordered a second drink from a young girl and it never came in the end, so we just decided to leave. Overall, the waitress we had was really good, but the food was kinda bland and cider wasn't good at all.

We were very tired from climbing Scafell Pike and searching for a place to get some good food when we stumbled into the Pig. Part of the menu is Large Portions (roughly £14.00 each) and they are very large. I had the duck which consisted of 2 full duck legs and then a mixture of vegetables. Service was warm and friendly, food was excellent, price was very reasonable

Came across this place after we’d try to get in about 6 other places in the village on a Friday night. I’m contrast to those places the staff at The Pig were friendly and welcoming. Food was excellent with large portions . The confit of duck and the tandoori chicken burger were very good. Recommended.

We popped into the Pig around midday having walked Orrest Head for a beer at first! Then the smell we got from the kitchen (bacon) sucked us in for food! We went with a handful of small items as the menu is pretty big and each plate was delicious, see pics!! We were surprised how busy it was for this time of day and there appeared to be some locals in so must be popular!

We visited here for lunch on the way home specifically because it’s listed online as being one of the restaurants that is taking part in the eat out to help out scheme...yet when we were brought our bill is was full price and we were told they hadn’t opted into the scheme? Very disappointed. It’s disgusting that the restaurant has been listed online yet refuses to comply when customers come in. If we’d have known we would have gone somewhere else as I am a student trying to save money and I thought I was going to get the meal for a much cheaper price. AVOID IF YOU ARE HOPING FOR MONEY OFF.

Always good when you choose a restaurant based on them being on the eat out to help out scheme and still get charged full price. Why bother applying to be put on the government website but not actually do the scheme? Customer service at its finest.

We were recommended to visit here by the owners of local Guest House, Glen Wynne and we were not disappointed. There was a lovely ambiance and the quality of food served was impressive. The portions were extremely generous and the homemade dishes we chose obviously contained the freshest ingredients. If in Windermere, don’t hesitate to visit.

Excellent service. Friendly staff and great food. We called in without pre booking and luckily there was a table available. Highly recommend this place if you’re in the area looking for a decent place to eat.

First visit to the Lake District and we were greeted with a very warm welcome from Michael and the rest of the team. Food was fantastic, I had the sausage bap and my partner had the bobotie and we’d highly recommend both! Will definitely be coming back here on our next visit to the Lakes. Due to Covid-19, I’d recommend booking a table as there were a few people who were turned away due to less tables being available at the moment.

Wish I could give The Pig 5 Stars as their food was great, they had impressive cocktails and a good atmosphere. Sadly, there were a few issues with the staff. One member seemed a little tipsy when taking our order and managed to forget to note down my egg allergy, that I made very clear, bringing out a burger with coleslaw. Furthermore, we had to ask for tap water four times and only got it with the bill at the end (we asked for it with our first drinks order).Perhaps though we came on a particularly bad day and the staff were tired and overworked under the new COVID-19 restrictions so still worth a shot.

I visited The Pig with a couple of friends on Tuesday evening, we had no problem getting a table even though it was pretty busy. The two members of staff on front of house were amazing. They were very friendly and we weren't left waiting for anything. The food was fab and we definitely weren't hungry afterwards. Would definitely visit again and recommend.

Initially called in just for drinks, but ended up back the following day for breakfast after a very warm and friendly welcome. Best breakfast I’ve had out for a very long time. Lots of choice, massive portions and perfect service, especially under current circumstances. Would definitely recommend and will be back on our next visit, lots more on the menu we want to try! A lot of choice for veggies too!

After four months in lock down, this was only our second meal at a restaurant since legally allowed to. It's a small building, many of the lake district properties are and it was filled with atmosphere and character. There were couples, families, drinkers and people eating when we arrived. We knew we wanted to go here, and also knew it was going to be busy and we would have to wait (not an issue, I would rather wait an extra 15 mins for a meal then get a table right away in an empty restaurant with no personality). We waited four a couple to finish paying their bill and then the table was deep cleaned including menus and after hand sanitising we were seated. We had a beautiful icy bottle of wine to start, we loved people watching- in case you didn't know (we didn't) Windamere and local Bowness have excellent evening atmosphere! Our waiter was Micheal and he was really personable, polite and took our orders right away. Food came out pretty quick. Food portions generous and great quality! I had the Halloumi burger and it banged. Brioche bun was unreal and not the standard supermarket bun, lightly battered halloumi - no grease and great tasting chunky chips! Can't wait to come back next year. Got my eyes on the Pizzas!

Despite restrictions and being busy due to COVID-19, we were quickly allocated a table outside on the front as we only wanted drinks. Our server was polite despite the difficulties she had with her tablet in the sunshine and we ordered our drinks and a portion of chips. The chips came very quickly and were enjoyed by our daughters. They were freshly cooked and very hot. The drinks took a little longer to come due to a staff changeover but the owner/manager apologised for the short wait and explained why. The drinks were exactly as ordered and were just what we needed to break up our afternoon. We only entered inside the venue to pay but it looked very popular with a great atmosphere. Would most probably look to return on a visit to Windermere.

Really wanted to dine here and tried to book however they don’t accept bookings. Waited in the rain outside for 10 minutes trying to get a table but no one came to see us. We left and went for drinks then came back. This time we were seen however very bluntly told they didn’t have tables and wouldn’t know when they would. It baffles me why you couldn’t book but had to wait outside in the rain to be seated in 5 or maybe 50 minutes. Waited for longer and then we were advised by other people having a drink they had a much reduced menu with only highly priced items on it. A steak was £37 Apparently clearly wasnt worth the poor service so we left.

A local pub recommended this restaurant on our quick stop over at this small town. When we arrived at the restaurant, there was already a couple who had been waiting for almost 20min and were not informed about the estimated time to be seated. A man came out shortly after who appeared to be the owner and told “we are too busy” with no curtesy or sense of respect to elaborate on waiting times. While this happened, two customers who were sitting outside told all of us that they have been waiting for a server to take their order for 25 minutes. At that point all 4 of us left the restaurant. The same man who told us they were too busy, took his sweet time just conversing with a group of customers who appeared to be his friends instead of informing customers waiting in line. While I can understand the challenge in serving and seating times at a busy restaurant, the communication and customer service was handled extremely poorly. I can also understand and be okay with the fact that they reserve the right to serve (or not) any customer. However, if you are in the service industry and operating a restaurant, you should not take the state of your business for granted. It can flip over night...We ended up going to the lamplighter dining rooms and had an amazing dinner. Great food, generous portions and great service.

Terrible customer service! The young girl at the till clearly did not want to be there. She was huffing and puffing at customers! Yes, it was very busy as yesterday, 15th October was a beautiful autumn day but I would think they would be glad of end of season trade! I could not sit down because they were so busy so opted to ask for take away coffee and cake, only to be told by her 'I'm not doing take away'. Really? The local co-op is closed for a refurbishment and they really could capitalise on that if they employed more capable, less miserable staff! Shocking!! Won't return!

Called here for a takeaway lunch, used them several times before. Service was disappointing to say the least. Not a please or thankyou from the ladies working in the shop - even when I pointed out they'd only charged me for 1 flat white! Previous reviews also highlight the fact that the staff are miserable, they respond but do nothing to address the concerns raised. Also, I would've thought that as u was the only customer in the shop on a very wet day would have been positive for them - obviously not! Not sure I'll return here.

Visited here with my Dad today. Asked for a tea cake and then a scone both not on the menu anymore. I had a bagel with salmon and cream cheese paid over £8 and that was it no sides, no even a bit of salad - didn’t taste great. Dad ordered pancakes in the end 2 tiny pancakes on a dish - still hungry when we left. Not great service either. Disappointed!

Called in for a coffee and snack after our frequent walk along the bay and round back into Arnside. When this first opened I was a little wary as we are used to small intimate tea/coffee shops in Arnside. However this was our second visit and as we entered we were greeted by obviously the front of house guy “David”. Wow does this guy know how to do it Welcoming ,friendly, Northern (always a bonus). Had a lovely coffee and Hubby had a great crisp bacon bun. The vibe in this cafe/restaurant is great., modern but great service. We live quite locally and are encouraged to go in the evening now as well. In our opinion the best restaurants are always about the front of house and Crossfields has it right. Everyone in this place has a great view of our beautiful Morecambe bay.
