We really enjoyed the whole experience and great place to eat over looking the bay. Service was excellent and all courses and meals were really good but gets a 4 as it’s a tad pricey especially when adding sides.

We left feeling cheated! Whilst the venue, location and service were all top class we left with a bad taste in our mouths. I am sorry to report that the menu is disingenuous, the food is somewhat stingy and all at alarming high prices for what you receive. The wife and I think nothing of dropping 2 - 3 hundred pounds for a really good meal, it’s our thing and we work hard to be able to do so. But when my wife ordered the copa ham to start and 3 slices turn up on her plate with a garnish of pickled veg I was disappointed for her. Her main was even more so disappointing! Ordering the black Angus salt beef my wife was looking forward to a hearty slice of beef and mash. Alas no what my wife received for £30 was no more than corned beef hash in a posh juis. My meal also left us feeling dejected, the crab bake is more mash than crab and I received a very lonely looking ray wing in brown butter which was under seasoned but tasty. But it certainly was not £30 tasty it’s one of cheapest fish in the sea, cost price for the whole plate £4.75. Cheating pig price £30. Sadly the nicest thing we both ate that night was the side of cauliflower cheese… If you value value as well as quality the don’t eat at the cheating disingenuous Pig on the Beach

A birthday treat for me. Having heard great things about The Pig Hotels I was excited at the prospect of a night away and to try the delicious food. Busy, even on a Sunday night, the staff were welcoming and friendly. The bar and lounge areas were comfortable and inviting with sofas, cushions and log fires. The menu was not as varied as we expected and the balance of flavours slightly missed the mark. For starter I had a huge, hefty slice of venison terrine (too much to eat) followed by a ray wing in a very rich brown butter sauce which needed some sharpness, no vegetables or potatoes were served with the dish. We ordered a side dish of buttered greens, which were tough and not tasty. I felt that the prices charged were not justified for the quality of the meals we received at dinner and lunch. The popularity of The Pig brand seems to ensure it's continued success....for the moment. (See other recent reviews). We eat out regularly at excellent local restaurants in Dorset which offer a far superior experience. The music at dinner - guitar riffs and rock - was loud and seems out of keeping with the sustainable credentials of the British brand. We asked to have the volume reduced or to have more mellow music but we're told that this is the playlist they are required to play. At breakfast we were accompanied by Radio Solent; strange choice. The buzz of the atmosphere and the beautiful setting require no additional music. A really great breakfast and we adored the decor, and geraniums on the window sills. On the plus side - a huge, comfortable bed, big towels and bath robes and a bathroom with a double ended bath and great rainwater shower. A gorgeous old house, fabulous views of The Solent and to the Isle of Wight and wonderfully tended kitchen garden, complete with free range hens wandering about, all a stone's throw from the beach.

My expectations of this restaurant were high, as I saw a review of its sister hotel in the New Forest on television, and it didn’t disappoint. I had asparagus and poached egg as a starter, and a huge pork chop as my main course. The service was attentive.

We came here for a special anniversary lunch last week and we couldn’t have chosen a nicer venue. From the warm welcome on arrival to the restaurant service itself, everything was so hospitable and the quality of the cuisine was excellent. Thank you to Sam the restaurant manager and our waitress Kate and her colleagues for all making a special occasion thoroughly enjoyable.

Thought we give this another go since it was quite a long time since we were last there. First impressions staff were all very polite and helpful Was sat in a very cold draft by the window not very good and only realised how cosy the rest of the restaurant was when we were leaving Food was quite good but not exceptional for the price, had the pork and it was tough, we did have wine , so 200 pounds for lunch is pricey for 2. I also thought the whole place could do with a good clean it did feel very grubby. Although this place does have a certain charm but don’t think we will be returning.

Met up with family for midweek lunch. A lovely small hotel in a beautiful location with wonderful sea/coastline views. Having heard rave reviews I was so looking forward to enjoying my meal but sadly I was underwhelmed. The menu didn’t particularly inspire me, in the end I opted for the dressed Crab, which was tiny, served with chips, Marie Rose sauce and 2 burnt pieces of toast. 5 out of 5 for the staff who were friendly and attentive.

We had previously stayed at The Pig at Combe and it had been amazing. However, The Pig on the Beach did not remotely live up to it. The room was tiny with malfunctioning radiator - we were offered a different room but this was even smaller. Whilst the restaurant setting is lovely, the food was subpar. My husband had the plaice which was swimming in oil and inedible. The service was unattentive making it difficult to ask for a replacement dish. We will not be returning.

Sunday lunch for 2 booked at 3pm to celebrate anniversary…..turned up - table was 30mins late…waitress was apologetic but just said we could sit outside and wait and she would give us a menu to look at - no offer of getting drinks for us or any nibbles so had to head to the bar ourselves - not a great start Sat in restaurant, crikey, tables are incredibly close together. We were sat next to another couple and you couldn’t help but get drawn into their conversation as there was barely 50cms between the tables…. Piggy bits were tasty - belly pork and tempura fritters. Roast pork ordered - steak knives given and even with that, we struggled to cut into the pork. No crackling on the pork - no seasoning on the veg, roast potatoes must have been reheated in a microwave as they tasted like the ones I do at home with leftovers….really poor for £29 each. Pudding was good - crumble and the chocolate choice. Service from the young team in the restaurant was ok but nothing better than the local pub. Lounge area was really unloved with all the sofas looking tired, cushions flat, old newspapers left lying around - it really looked like it was unloved which is such a shame because the setting is lovely and it could be amazing….. Bill with one glass of red each and an aperitif each was £140 - we were even charged for tap water! At that price tag, you have to serve food that is tasty. We have been a fan of the Pig brand but I am afraid this experience will mean we are very unlikely to return to any of them

I’ve usually stayed at the Pig this time I didn’t so came for dinner. I arrived an hour early to intentionally have a drink on the lawn taking in the breathtaking views. I then went to table a lovely view inside ( I was given the option of inside or out and it was the hottest day of the year but chilly as the sun went down . I had the spiced Portland crab cocktail with Marie Rose sauce- but it wasn’t Marie Rose as I know, it was ok it says spicy but it wasn’t, it was £19. Then pollock was very nice in a lemon sauce with a small bed of greens . I had a scoop of blackcurrant ice cream lovely and a nice touch served with a pig 🐖 biscuit . I don’t drink alcohol so an Elderflower cordial £6.50 and a latte. It came to £85 so an expensive meal but lovely and attentive service from the young staff.

Beautiful location and facilities. A really interesting and different hotel. The views are breathtaking and the grounds are superb. We were given an evening meal gift voucher as a present so were very grateful and looking forward to something special. The staff were lovely and very attentive and we were seated perfectly on time. Unfortunately it kind of went downhill from there. The menu was quite limited with a lot of fish dishes and just one pork and one beef option. We ordered still water, one starter, 2 mains (the pork and the beef) and one small side dish of potatoes. The starter was a ham hock terrine with bread, however the bread was rock hard (literally) which meant it was actually painful to eat. We then waited nearly an hour for the mains to arrive (despite the starter having been cleared away almost as soon as it was finished). I ordered the beef (which I had to request be cooked medium, otherwise I was advised it would arrive well done). So glad I ordered it medium cooked as it was very tough, bland and the well done parts were completely inedible. The sauce/dressing tasted like fresh grass and was actually revolting. The pork was ok but was cooked blush and had large chunks of inedible fat round the edges. Best thing about the food were the additional minted new potatoes but even they were average at best (and an additional £6). We elected not to go for dessert as it was now nearly 2 hours since we sat down. After the surcharges, the charge for tap water and the mandatory 12.5% service charge we realised we'd paid nearly £100 for one starter and 2 mains. Not impressed. Won't be going back. A real shame as the whole dinner service experience coloured our experience quite negatively.

We have regularly eaten at The Pig on the beach since it opened and it was always a "go to" place for special occasions, however after our most recent experience we will not be going back. The recent changes in ownership have resulted in cutbacks on both the quality of food and the service. Our food was average at best and didn't reflect the fresh quality we had previously enjoyed. For example, the Isle of Wight Tomato Salad used to stand on its own with just the flavour of the tomato but now it seems to be marinated in something and the flavour is not the same. All things point to a move toward prepared food vs the fresh to the plate experience of the past. The thrice cooked chips are now no better than a fast food chain. Service is also not what it used to be and this can only be a reflection of the training provided. Wine prices are very high, but have always been willing to pay that bit extra because of the location and wonderful views. About a year ago they changed the offering at the outdoor wood oven which used to be freshly cooked pizzas and is now pre prepared warmed up flatbreads so we haven't been back there either but had better hopes for the restaurant. This used to be a place we would bring visitors for lunch or dinner but sadly it is no longer what it used to be. Always hopeful that the management may read some of the recent reviews and see that it has slipped but they probably make enough money from one off visits and dont need to worry about quality / return guests.

Fantastic location, but ... We were told to sit in the bar when trying to order drinks, and someone would take the order. This was done, but I had to go and remind staff about our order after a long wait, although there were only 2 other people in the bar who had theirs already. We were shown to a nice table for 2 and given menus, which were quite confusing as it appeared that whatever was under a heading was not included but extra which became hidden costs. The starters were nice but the main meal of pork was tough and did not have much taste. The confusing menu resulted in 2 greens and no potatoes being served, although each were asked for. Bread water given and not told it was extra. When the potatoes did arrive they appeared to have been remicrowaved and black in places . The Manager did take off the cost of the vegetable sides and one main meal . There was a large table of one party which kept the staff extra busy. Overall we were very disappointed as it was a birthday meal. So please read the menu carefully as the charges mount up including water and bread and which are not made clear.

Such a disappointment! Went there for a drink in the garden... staff at the garden bar were charming and gorgeous space...we wanted to book for lunch a few days later. We’re advised by the young guy who was front of house in the restaurant that we could not eat inside the restaurant without dog unless we wanted to ‘tether’ him outside whilst we ate which we did not. Fair enough that they don’t have dogs in the restaurant but I asked to book the terrace instead with our dog and was told they don’t take bookings for the terrace as the weather was unpredictable so just to turn up on the day. So we did...a gloriously sunny day..only to be told by a young blond haired woman in the driveway who was meeting and greeting arrivals that the 25 mile menu was not available on the terrace and that we could park in the car park near the beach ans come in to the ground da for a flat bread or a dressed crab which was the extent of the menu offered on the terrace but they were not taking anymore bookings that day for the terrace. I advised her we had been told two days ago we could not book a table on the terrace and were told to turn up on the day. We had not been told that the 25 mile menu was limited to only those earring in the restaurant. She reaffirmed the situation and when we asked if we could book for the following day she reverted back to the ‘we don’t take outside bookings as can’t predict the weather and it’s likely to rain tomorrow’ response. Furthermore, she looked rather pleased too with herself to be conveying this message to us with a good dose of pomposity beyond her years thrown in for good measure. So..we took are money elsewhere and had a lovely lunch at the Bankes Arms hotel, our first indoor meal since lockdown began, where our dog was welcomed, the Starr were charming and welcoming and the food was lovely. We figured we got lucky. Message to the Pig.... with so many people acquiring dogs in lockdown you might want to think about extending your 25 mile menu to those with dogs eating on the terrace and you’d do better to sort out clearer policies about bookings..talk about confused messages..you might also encourage your meter and greeter to at least pretend to be less pleased to disappoint your potential customers..smug comes to mind. . I for one won’t be seeking out any pig again in a hurry...but will spend my money where I am respectfully treated..

Exceptional. The whole experience covers much more than just the food. Great views and setting. Pre lunch drinks on the lawn over looking Studland Bay followed by some wonderful fish and wine. The whole eating out experience is dressed up in fine style and the team are appropriately informal but attentive. Wine is a little pricey but it’s not as if we have been spending lots on restaurants in the last year. It makes coming to places like the PIG that much more memorable. Thank you.

Been here a few times over the years and it’s a beautiful premises and lovely as a celebration venue. However you’d be better to visit expecting style over substance if I’m being honest and it’s definitely overpriced for what you get. It’s madness that you can’t order tap water. We asked for tap water and then were charged on the bill and when we queried it were told they don’t do it. Food wise it’s always a bit of a mixed bag. Bread was amazing...starters and mains were of high standard but dessert and petit fours were below average. The crumble was very bland and the petit fours should never have gone out...the little tarts were frankly awful. Service was good when we visited on a Weds lunch. We’ll visit again for celebrations as it feels ‘special’ but its not perfect and is a little pretentious although they try really hard to keep it very casual/informal. Well set up for outdoor eating during Covid (covered, heated, blankets etc). Please just start allowing people to have a jug of tap water with their food, it’s ridiculous and doesn’t reflect well on the brand (even though I was assured some of the money from the water goes to charity)

Had a long weekend at worth matravers, and had wanted to come to the pig for along time so booked lunch on Sunday. Cocktails to die for, appetisers tasty. Didn’t like the crab gratin, was a bit sandwich spread in substance. The waiter noticed it wasn’t eaten and, all credit to the restaurant, the item was removed from the bill without being asked for. Pork was beautiful, as was my husbands cauliflower steak Diane. However, the restaurant was busy and I think overall, the cooking suffered a little bit as a result hence the reason for anticipation outweighing actuality. Can’t comment on dessert as we didn’t have any. Will give it another visit next time we are in the area but maybe not on a Sunday. Final note, I know jeans are an accepted form of dress for waiting staff these days but please make sure they fit properly at least! Twelve months after our first visit, we had high expectations for our second visit and were not disappointed. For our cocktail on the lawn three of us chose “The Fig on the Beach”, a daiquiri style cocktail using fig infused rum – the figs coming from their estate – fantastic. Before your main course, you have an enormous choice. There’s “Fishy bits, Garden bits or Piggy bits”, “Garden, Greenhouse & Polytunnel” – plant based and freshly picked and then a selection of “Starters” – mainly fishy / seafood. The Heritage carrots are particularly recommended. We were especially pleased with the sommelier’s recommendations of wines and I was very impressed with his recommendations for wines, especially when it came with our deserts. For my choice of Blackberry Gin & Tonic Jelly, he said, “Actually, given the level of alcohol in the jelly, a desert wine would spoil it”. I settled for a coffee and look forward to our visit next year.

We were shocked to work out that a whole pie (based on an average pie size and cost per slice) would be £120!!!Come on guys even a Marry Berry bespoke pie wouldn’t be £120!!From a Covid perspective very hit and miss. Sign on the door said all guests must wear a mask unless seated which we duly did, however , whilst waiting for my partner I saw 4 guests walking around and none of the staff said a word - it’s either a ‘ must do ‘ rule or a ‘we request ‘ rule if it’s the former then the staff should feel empowered and brave enough to remind guests to wear a mask if not seated ( a bit like air crew would do if passengers were walking g around during landing - it’s about the safety of everyone ), they can’t all have had ‘mask intolerance reasons .All the staff wore masks or visors - excellent, except when the Sommelier came to the table next to us clearly hot and bothered, lifted his mask carried on chatting and wiped sweat from his brow. I went with my wife for a Wedding Anniversary lunch at the Pig on the Beach. Here's my review. The Venue: The bar was old worldly in looks. It was OK, with a mixture of seating. The decor was a bit clutter (this is only my personal taste). The restaurant was in a large conservatory style, with large windows overlooking the garden and the sea (great views). There were indoor plants, mismatched chairs and it was a lovely place to sit and eat lunch There was also the option to sit outside (to many wasps at this time of the year). The restaurant was empty when we arrived, but filled up quickly. Tables were not too close together, so it felt spacious. The Food: The menu was varied and medium priced (Not McDonald's, or Michelin star prices), maybe a little higher prices than in main towns. The menu also gave information on locally sourced produce, as well as their own grown organic food.We had Pork loin with trimmings and Thornback Ray Wing for main course. Both were very tasty and well seasoned. The puddings were Pear Helena and Lemon Poset, with Strawberries. Both were nicely presented and quite nice to eat. We did not feel rushed, but also did not have to wait too long for each dish and drinks. The Staff: From entering the building, to leaving the Staff were friendly, helpful and professional. There were also plenty of people serving, so it was easy to ask for something.Health and Safety: I have only added this due to the current circumstances of Covid19. First off, outside the entrance of the Hotel there is a sign asking visitors to wear face mask while walking round in the building (except for the restaurant of course). This was a good start, but that's where it ended. No staff were wearing face masks (so customers wear face masks, but staff don't ????). A lady at reception was cough, cough, cough, all the time we waited to be seated for our meal. At this point we should have left and told them why. So all the serving staff were bringing food without a mask, breathing on it (which cannot be helped without a mask), which now makes me wonder what extra measures (if any) are being made in the Kitchen with regards to government guidelines on the reduction of spreading this virus. I work in a Hospital and trust me, I wasn't impressed with this. I would have given a higher overall rating if it wasn't for this.

This was our sixth visit to this restaurant. The quality of the food and service remained of a high standard. However, perhaps to try and recoup Covid losses. This pig now has a bar in the garden open to drop in visitors. As a result the car park is now clearly insufficient. When paying around £180 for lunch you expect to be able to park your car. Either close the garden bar to drop in visitors or enlarge your car park Mr Hudson. It spoilt our visit and we will now think twice about returning.

The Pig on the Beach has a wonderful location. Heaven knows how much this property must be worth. Near the beach and wonderful views out to sea. The Pig chain have built up a good reputation over the years, but I think they now have overstretched themselves and I really hope that they can rectify this. The service from the staff, the restaurant manager and the wine waiter was appalling. Fancy your fizz finally arriving during your main course. When I chased up the manager, I felt like the service was that our a touristic resturant in Paris. A shrug of the shoulders and the Fizz finally arrived. The food was cold and tasted nice but was spoilt as it had been waiting for somebody to bring the dishes to the table. So Senor Management of The Pig group, I love your hotels and would love this hotel to get back to where it should the last time I visited. It really felt like the staff preferred to be back on Furlough earning money whilst on the beach !!!So please can we get back to the old high standards !!

A brilliant way to end your day on the beach. Escape the crowds and the car park to this oasis. Soak in the late sun in the garden before heading inside for a locally sourced feast. The food was excellent - the best meal we had in Dorset.

We were greeted by all the staff we passed as we came in for a mid-week holiday lunch. Its a beautiful building in a cracking spot with amazing gardens and views beyond. We were a family of 3 including our 3 1/2 yr old. He was made just as welcome as we were including at one point the barman making him his first ever mocktail which was made with all the flair of a cocktail, he loved it. The food was superb as was the wine we ordered. For dessert we said we'd like to sit somewhere and were happily taken through to a snug where we were not forgotten and continued to receive the same great service. After lunch we spent quite some time in the gardens especially the vegetable and herb gardens and green houses. It was all great, thank you, we'll come back next year

Had drinks in the beautiful garden (stunning views) followed by lunch in the lovely restaurant. The meal was fantastic .... we shared the radish small plate followed by the smoked salmon, aubergine with halloumi & the pork with plums. Faultless - the pork in particular being lightly smoked was delicious as were the potatoes with seaweed. The only reason I am not awarding a 5 rating is that the youngsters serving us were very disorganised - we had to repeat requests to several of them which is a shame. I would definitely go back though for the ambience & great food.

Food was brilliant, service was great, but paid 1.50 for garlic dip, an asked for it to be topped up an was told I had to pay another 1.50 for dip. Due to this I was forced to consume my body weight in the free tartan sauce that was available, should of just filled me garlic mayo up, would of cost you less.

This is our go to place for a special meal. Food and staff fabulous as always and the views arevstunning. We love wandering around their kitchen garden after eating, checking out all the lovely fruit and veg they use in their dishes. We weren't sure what to expect since they reopened with the covid regs etc, however all very discrete but safe with some lovely posh hand sanitiser on the table.

We were a group of 8 and booked a special meal in the Roundhouse 27 July 2020. The atmosphere couldn't have been more perfect. It had been a cloudy, rainy day, so the coast looked dramatic. The room was cozy and the staff were attentive, but not intrusive. The place had a relaxed rugged beach attitude and the staff were incredibly hard working and nice. The table looks like a large wooden wheel - probably the top or bottom of a wine barrel. It isn't shiny and smooth, but lovely and rugged which reflects the feel of the entire place. The room temperature was fine despite the cooler weather and the open door in the outside space. The toilets behind the hut were clean and easily accessible. It was a perfect place to avoid being near people outside our COVID bubble - highly recommend booking it as it is busy. Most of the complaints I've seen relate to time -- that doesn't and didn't matter to us. We had a lovely 2 hours to ourselves in a private building with fantastic views. Couldn't have been better. The food was superb. It is all local and fresh, which suited our taste buds. They make lovely meals using vegetables and unique combinations. Super crispy kale and roasted beetroot. Lovely pork shoulder, pigeon, fish. Desserts divine. Loved the piggy chocolate! We were near the outside pizza oven which looked and smelled fantastic.100% would come here again.

Having been recommended to go here by what seems to be everyone who has ever visited Dorset - we made the most of the opportunity. Was it worth the hype? Not really. The positives; lovely setting, beautiful building, great views. The menu is quirky and fully of local produce. The food itself was very nice, we had the crispy brawn, pea hummus, then sirloin and a veg risotto. Pretty meager sirloin though for £30. The negatives; and these are small things but for a hotel / restaurant serving top whack prices and such a ‘reputation’ I expected nothing but perfection. In the bar area, it was chaotic, bar man sprinting back and forth in and out of the room - not quite the calm arrival and ambience I expected. Table not ready on time - despite tables being available. Not offered a drink or anything whilst waiting. Only given one menu for food. Only one side plate for bread between the two of us. Steak and chips - zero seasoning. Chips not even trimmed - covered in inedible black areas. So whilst there were lots of people working in the restaurant, there was no manager ‘running the floor’ and it was very evident. So all in all, it was good but nothing more. Not sure I would bother rushing back. It certainly didn’t live up to the hype nor the all round quality we expected. Shame.

I came here the day after it reopened post COVID and am quite surprised at the comments about lack of sanitisers etc. On every single table there was lovely brambly hand sanitiser which was also available within the restaurant as well. We sat outside for the meal as we were blessed by the weather and the food was delicious. I was a little sad that there was no vegetarian risotto or pasta on the menu - everything was very vegetable based with no carbs but my meal was still lovely. The tobacco onions are always a must when visiting any pig restaurant. After lunch we sat outside on the lawn and did not feel rushed or forced to order more drinks. A lovely relaxing day.

We were rather alarmed at the lack of precautions in the restaurant. No hand sanitiser anywhere, the staff weren’t wearing masks and there was no evidence of them keeping socially distant. I think if we had visited the restaurant last year it would have been no different. Food was good but I felt that a plate of beetroot (nothing else) as a main course was a bit grim. Beautiful setting and views

Fantastic meal but sadly almost zero coronovirus protection. Just a couple of gel pots. Not a mask or plastic barrier in sight. Many staff not distance aware but if management are not trsining them well it is no surprise. Tables too close and too many crossed paths. Shame really. We had a meal yesterday in a another place which was well organised...is IS possible and I hope the Pig takes notes.

Love the Pig. My first time on HUGE recommendation from my bezza. Love all the no shiny design and our room was beautiful with a free standing roll top bath in the bedroom. (Which is like my bedroom!) and the paintwork is fantastic LOVE IT. Also the bed was amazing and the bedding was perfect. Mini bar well stocked with bolly and stealables were high class. Walk in shower was fab - room 15 if you should ask.The grounds and building itself are both opulent and views amazing. Kitchen garden is inspiring. Food - just awesome. My partner did NOT like the menu - was far too scared of it. So by persuading him that we would order together and the promise of a McD if he didn’t like. So he had the onion tart and plaice AND LOVED IT - so we’ll done chef! Props to Steph who looked after us so well and should get a promotion.Try the old fashioned - life changer Final word - they have just opened up after lockdown so it wasn’t easy for them and you could see there was a fizz of panic but they did their absolute best to make us feel wonderful. 4 of us had Sunday lunch today at The Pig. It was brilliant in many ways. The staff are very attentive from the moment you enter. We got there 1.5 hours earlier than our reservation. So we filled our time sitting by the big warm fire having our pre-lunch drinks. We ordered some “Light bites”. Our order got forgotten, and following our query, the service recovery well exceeded our expectations. They were delicious and “on the house”. Apologies were wholesome and from two waiters. Not alone were the light bites on the house, so too were our pre lunch drinks. Quite impressed putting it mildly!!When our main courses were served, they were perfectly cooked and deliciously flavoured. We had, shared Barnsley pork chops, trout and pigeon breast. After our lunch, we toured the grounds and the highlight was the superb walled kitchen garden. Can’t wait for another opportunity to dine at The Pig again. Strongly recommended!

Staff were under pressure, it was very busy. Some coped better than others! Our waitress was exceptional but the bar staff were not, we had to keep asking for service and we didn't feel welcome. In the dining room, however, it was a different story, nothing was too much trouble. The food was well cooked, fresh and tasty but have to confess I've never paid £8 for 4 asparagus spears and a spoonful of Hollandaise before! There was a good children's menu and plenty of vegetarian choice.Everything was clean and the view of Old Harry Rocks was glorious. A bill of £235 for a lunch for four adults and one child seems excessive when no one had a dessert and it slightly took the shine off the day.

We have visited a number of times, usually in summer months and for drinks in the beautiful, large sea-facing garden. This was a special birthday lunch for my wife. It could not have been better. We had pre-lunch drinks (with complimentary queen olives and nuts) in the lounge area whilst perusing the menu. We were then shown to our table in the conservatory area overlooking the garden. The food was exquisite, service was brilliant (a perfect blend of formal service level but with casual delivery). The wine menu is extensive and very well appointed. We retired to the lounge to enjoy coffees by the fire before leaving and vowing to return again soon. We highly recommend here for lunch and next time we will stay for a night too.

The restaurant manageress was not welcoming and told us to order quickly as the kitchen was not taking orders after 3 ( booking was 2:45!). The serving staff were most helpful however we had to ask for bread! Which arrived after the starter was consumed. One main course was unavailable and the chosen alternative was a poor ‘pub’ roast. Having eaten at The Pig-Brockenhurst and holding it in high regard-my partner and I were very disappointed with our visit to The Pig on the Beach. The staff made no acknowledgement of our booking and we had to remind them that we had booked a seat for dinner. We also had to ask for menus and the wine menu. In short, customer service was not of the standard normally associated with The Pig. In addition, we felt that the food was rather disappointing. It's rather annoying to pay premium prices for food which, quite frankly could have been ordered from a local pub.

Had dinner when staying at the hotel and were a little disapointed. Not enough thought seems to have been given to how the flavours and textures of the ingrediants will blend together on the plate and, with the main courses, the sauces were too heavy for the true flavours to come through. Details such as serving hot food on cold plates were apparent; it needs more thought. Having said that the potted goose was excellent, if everything else had been like that...........

We have stayed at most of the Pigs and enjoyed them all. Its difficult to get a booking at the Pig on the Beach and we now know why. The location of the hotel overlooking Studland Bay and Poole Harbour is second to none and we particularly enjoyed being there off-peak. All the staff are well trained and attentive and we were particularly grateful for their competence when one of us had a minor medical emergency. Both duty managers on the day it occurred, and the day after, were top rate and we have written a note of gratitude to them and their staff. Our room (16) was excellent and we enjoyed our food and wine. Guests should not expect Michelin star level, but the quality of the food is generally very good, and is sourced from local produce and their own gardens. We enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and the decor of the Pigs and we were very satisfied with our stay in Studland.

We arrived early for lunch and after a little walk around the kitchen garden we enjoyed a cocktail by the open fire on comfy chairs. This gave us time to peruse the menu. All the staff were welcoming and polite, particularly our waitress who was friendly and knowledgeable. This was a special lunch as an early celebration for a 50th birthday and we were not disappointed. We were seated in the main room rather than the conservatory which was a little quieter and ideal for us. The menu catered well for the meat eaters and plant eaters. Piggy bits and hummus followed by pheasant, lamb hot pot, veggie stew and Cornish whiting. The food was expertly cooked and beautifully presented.

Despite reading some of the more negative reviews on trip advisor we thought it might still be worth giving the The Pig on the beach a go for an anniversary dinner. There are two pages on trip advisor for the restaurant as some people write their reviews on the hotels page and some on the restaurant page. At first we were pleasantly surprised, nice relaxed surroundings, warm (despite other reviews saying it was cold), decent sized portions and tasty food. However as the meal went on we found became less impressed. The restaurant is expensive but the food is by no means faultless (over cooked fish, bones in mackerel mouse, few hairs in my main course) they were quite pushy in selling you things like drinks. The most disappointing thing was an hour into our leisurely anniversary meal while deciding about desert we were told to vacate the table as they would need it back. All in all, I don’t think we’d be back but I can see how it could have easily been a better experience.
