A lovely well maintained Victorian pier, that just out into Swanage Bay. Good view, some seating on the pier, and fishing spots from a lower boat deck. Nice cafe, with good coffee and cake. Toilets available, and limited parking on site. There is a small charge to go onto the pier, but this was waived if using the cafe when we visited. The pier is accessible for the first half, but steps lead up to the last portion.

Absolutely love swanage. People are so kind, it's a small town but love it. The beach is sandy not stoney. The cliffs are a 5 minute drive from the beach or a 20 minute walk. Such a lovely walk up on the cliffs with beautiful views, a lighthouse & a few other bits to see. There's public toilets by the car park a little up the hill, a little hidden but they are there. There's also a pub. Also by the beach there are places you can walk just above the beach, that's a lovely walk too & a pier. Also, 3 more public toilet by the beach and smaller arcade. Plenty of people fishing by the pier, key & even the beach front. There's 2 arcades, a small amusement area & a large park. Plenty of public toilets around. We go every year & love it. Cruise ships rides, bus tours and steam train rides too.

A charming little pier. Generally not windy since the prevailing wind is from the South West thus this is sheltered. It would be completely different in a Nor Easter. There's a bar on the pier with seats outside and inside and the fee to go on the pier is modest. There's always some sort of activity to watch, boats docking, divers handling their gear and there are surf canoes for hire. If you are inexperienced in boats be careful, since it's sheltered in a SW wind it looks calm but if you go out a bit you may not be able to get back. It looks like there are plenty of locals who sail or paddle their surf canoes judging by the number in the local sailing club boat park. Another safety note Peveril Point just a kilometer along the shore is the site of a tidal race. Not a place to sail or canoe but a great scene to walk to from the town.

Excellent Weekend diving the Pier , volunteers who look after the access are very helpful and give you the rundown of entry/exit , safe area and even when major boat traffic is expected. Ideal for a relaxed bimble or if you have inexperienced divers , lots of wildlife and an interesting setting . TOP TIP ......try the Pier Carparking first , it can look full from approach road but you may be lucky , unload gear adjacent to entrance , wheeled baskets are readily available if you have to park up the hill , saves a lot of pushing and stops the baskets going walkabout. Cheap , fun , interesting diving and options for boat charter to some excellent sites , check out the Swanage Pier Website , loads of info for diving . Thanks to all the volunteers for your help

Swanage is a really lovely old fashioned seaside town with a beautiful beach and many features that attract holiday makers and day trippers alike. The wooden landing stage laughingly called "Swanage Pier" has no attractions and access is limited mainly to passengers of the little red ferry boat that picks up and sets down on the landing stage "pier". Quaint and picturesque but not really what most folk think of as a seaside pier.

Swanage has a lovely feel about the resort. This attractive pier is the original Victorian one constructed in 1859. Built for shipping stone, horses were used to pull carts along the narrow gauge tramway. A new pier extension was begun in 1895. In 1940 part of the pier was blown up as an anti invasion precaution. This was reconstructed but in the 1960s the pier deteriorated for almost thirty years. Grade 2 listed structure. Damaged by a storm in 1982. After renovations the pier reopened in 1998. The pier's wooden deck is covered with engraved brass memorial plaques, not seen that before on a pier. You can tell which are the local ones, due to their shinyness from regular polishing. Lots of information boards about. Good views back to the town and out to sea. Sheltered seating. There is an entrance fee for this pier: Adult - £2 Residents- £1.60 Child (under 14) free (accompanied)

We have recently attended two Sunday carveries under the new management. Our first experience was the trial carvery day and the second was two weeks later. We enjoyed the first carvery (the meat and potatoes being particularly good), but some of the vegetables on that occasion weren't so good. However, our second carvery food experience was markedly better. The turkey, beef and gammon joints were all well-cooked, the meats were succulent and tender and the portions generous. On the second occasion, the vegetables were also well cooked and there was a good selection. The staff are friendly and pleasant, but the ‘front of house’ could be better organised, although to be fair one member of staff said that they were trying different “meet and greet” options on the day. Hopefully this will also improve as experience is gained. After seeing very mixed reviews since the pub changed hands earlier this year, it is great to see a good carvery returning to the village. Give it a try and help support your local pub. We will definitely be back.

Dropped in after a trip to Norden and back. The old carriage is quite spacious, bright and attractive. Lots of outside seating on the platform and the grass bank. They also have a small book stall to raise funds for the railway. Prices are fine and the food and drinks are up to standard, but not as good as the Norden cafe.
