My first visit to The Pig and it won’t be my last, just need to save up - but it’s well worth it ❤️ You’re paying for the whole experience not just the food or the room, The Pig is the complete package. The attention to detail is amazing, from the floor boards and the light switches in the bedrooms, the decorations throughout the house and just the added extras such as welly boots and beautiful smelling toiletries. My very comfortable room was amazing, bath and all, spotlessly clean and with everything you could need, especially in the well stocked fridge, something for everyone. Dinner was a pleasure. I dined in the restaurant all three evenings and had something different each time. My favourite has to have been the pork loin, exceptional. The vegetables were so fresh, home grown in the wonderful kitchen garden. Take the tour at 11am it’s a must. Zac was my guide and answered every question put to him. I came away with a head full of ideas and more of a knowledge of how hard the team of gardens work throughout the year and just how busy they must be. Mornings I had the cooked breakfast, top quality food. So much choice on the buffet and beautifully laid out. No rush to get downstairs either so could have a lay in if wanted. Treated myself to one of the spa treatments available throughout the day, facilities located in the gardens but booked at reception. Would go and do it all again tomorrow if I could, thank you Emily it was soooo good. To be able to sit in the grounds, watch the deer and soak up the peace, space and fresh air is an experience all in itself and very relaxing, especially if you turn your phone off !! I would also like to give my thanks to everyone who made my break away so memorable, you were all lovely, very helpful and happy but my special thanks go to Angela and Steph who were exceptional, nothing was too much trouble. Also Dom and Ben who helped me brilliantly through the dinner menu, answering all my questions and matching my enthusiasm for the food and wines - thank you all. I will work hard to save up and book again next year. Exceptional Xxx

My friend &I had a treatment each in the potting sheds treatment rooms in the garden,we both thoroughly enjoyed the massages,we've both had a few in our time but we both agreed, these were some of the better ones we've had.Having said that double what we'd normally pay. Lunch afterwards was very pleasing as the last few meals I'd had there weren't that good!We had the lunchtime special,2 courses for £26.50,8oz Rib eye was included in this deal and it was a very nice steak, good wine not too expensive,Brilliant service, great atmosphere as always.will certainly be back soon.

We went to celebrate our Golden wedding Anniversary with friends that were also celebrating theirs. I had the pork and my husband had beef. Both very nice but extremely pricey. My daughters had already prepaid for a bottle of bubbly and red wine. The table was small and difficult to get all the dishes on. Very cramped. They brought in a glass of sweet wine ea h for our celebration. We weren't having a pudding and are not keen on sweet wine . A bit disappointing. A bit overated will try somewhere else next time .

The Pig near Bath is fabulous. Very relaxing and very relaxed. It’s gloriously quiet with lots of surrounding land - even has its own herd of deer just outside the front door - all carefully fenced in. You can wander freely through the extensive vegetable gardens and orchard. Wellies and umbrellas thoughtfully provided against the English weather. The room was extremely comfortable and a great shower - wasn’t too impressed by the bath in the bedroom but as we’d been given an upgrade to a larger room we didn’t complain about it. Just ignored it! The food is wonderful. Complimentary afternoon tea served in one of the many comfortable lounges with a choice of cake. Pre dinner drinks came with home made pickled vegetables. The menu for dinner was varied and caters to all tastes. A tasting menu would be a great addition as I was keen to try more than I could possibly eat! The smoked mackerel fish bite was a generous portion. The roasted tomato soup was superb. Great flavour. The John Dory with leeks and a Cornish dulce was so tasty. No room for dessert. Breakfast was a generous and healthy buffet with locally sourced fruit, bread and pastries as well as local ham, cheese and eggs. We couldn’t manage a cooked dish after the night before but other guests were tucking into what looked like a generous breakfast. Would thoroughly recommend.

First rate service and incredible food! If you’re looking for somewhere to celebrate a special milestone this is the place. We came to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. The team very kindly upgraded our room to a garden room which overlooked the kitchen gardens. Very comfortable and decorated in a stylish homely way fitting for the environment. In addition to what you would expect it has a log burner, not that we needed it! We had lunch dinner and breakfast here on the special August promotion. Everything we ate was incredible and memorable. New on the menu last night was a chocolate and basil ice cream that was served with a chocolate custard and stewed blackberries. It was stunning! 🤩 We really have had an amazing time, could have won and award for the longest game of snooker of all times in the afternoon. Enjoyed a complimentary tea and cake at 4pm. Just had a huge and delicious breakfast and plan a walk from the hotel after we’ve had our tour of the gardens. If you’re foodies like us you will love it. They also have an extensive wine list. Highly recommend this and the team here are so friendly.

We arrived at the beautiful Pig nr Bath in time for a wonderfully informative guided tour of the impressive kitchen garden. The variety of vegetables, edible plants and herbs is astonishing! Service in the hotel and restaurant is extraordinarily relaxed, welcoming and friendly – absolutely perfect. We started our lunch with the most amazingly complex yet delicately flavoured fennel and white onion soup with herb oil that was outstandingly delicious. Equally delicious were the tender carrots with thin slices of pickled apple on a bed of almond cream. The main courses, on the other hand, didn’t seem to make use of all the flavours available in the kitchen garden. The roast pepper on a garden herb polenta with pumpkin seeds tasted predominantly of a bland tomato sauce and too much salt. The very earthy glazed bolder beetroot was served in heavy chunks that overpowered the flavour of anything they were eaten with. They could have had a deeper, more layered flavour, maybe some juniper or a honey glaze, and be served thinly sliced. The wood pigeon with beetroot, walnut and blackberries also lacked complexity and was slightly overcooked and salty. Was it worth it? Yes, but we would choose selections of starters next time, bypassing the mains altogether.

I'm a real foodie and so I was excited to eat here, having heard good things about The Pig as a (high quality) chain. The setting is lovely – we were seated in the light and airy feeling conservatory. It's a relaxed atmosphere – the staff are all wearing jeans and T-shirts, while all being very polite and attentive. The food was overall very nice. I had crackling 'Piggy Bits', hot smoked trout, and then sole. The fish and plated accompaniments were delicious. However, I also ordered garden steamed 'greens' – which was kale – and I had to send this back. It was basically raw and chewy. They offered to re-do me a fresh bowl, which I accepted. But it came back exactly the same, and the apology was somewhat tinged with 'we cook greens so they are al dente here, like proper kitchens do…' Erm. It was KALE! Yes, give me al dente spring greens or cabbage any day, but Kale has to be cooked properly, because otherwise it's like eating tree bark! There was also some oversell on the extraordinarily large drinks menu. If I say I would just like a bottle of cider, please don't then convince my husband to order me a £10 quite small glass of flat, strong, overly sweet cider I didn't ask for. So a couple of things irked me, which is annoying considering how easy it is to spend a LOT of money in here. The situation of the place is wonderful and the gardens are lovely to walk around after lunch.

Beautiful setting, amazing grounds and lovely to see the deer. We went for Sunday lunch with some friends and were very excited after hearing all the hype about how incredible it was. Car parking was difficult and the car parks were so untidy so not the best first impression. Finding your way to the restaurant on a first visit takes some doing. We found ourselves to be gate crashers at a private event and then were left to make our own way around the grounds to the restaurant. We finally found the restaurant and it too was stunning. We were a little early so we were directed to the bar. We found seats and queued to get drinks. After 5 minutes a staff member arrived and told us our table was ready and accompanied us to the restaurant. We hadn’t managed to order drinks at the bar. After a while they took our drinks order. A bottle of wine and non alcoholic drink for the driver. It took ten minutes for the bottle of wine to appear. The other drink didn’t arrive at all until we reminded the staff 15 minutes later. Food order was taken. Finger snacks, followed by starters and then a main course. The pre- lunch finger foods arrived at the same time as the starters. There was no room on the table and we actually didn’t want them at this point. We accepted them graciously and we know mistakes happen (two of us have worked in hospitality for over 40 years) . We ordered a sparkling and a still water. They weren’t chilled at all. Just warm tap water and warm fizzy water! The menu was a confusing muddle. It wasn’t clear what actually came with the meal and what we needed to order as side dishes. The waiter had to explain it to us. The roast sirloin was lovely, the roast potatoes were hard, veg were nice but everything was cold. The braised beef was a dried out chewy lump of beef The cauliflower cheese was awful. We ordered two side dishes of cauli cheese and one was completely black on top. The cauliflower was overcooked and had obviously been sitting on a hot plate somewhere. It was mushy and dried out. The greens weren’t cooked at all. Cheese and biscuits were awful. One tiny piece of cheese and hard tasteless biscuits. We ordered two Irish coffees and received two whiskeys? We asked where the coffee was and eventually they returned with two Irish coffees ( they were very nice) Shortly after they brought us two whiskeys that we hadn’t ordered. They then took them away again and billed us anyway. For the price of the meal we were expecting to have a wonderful experience and instead wished we had gone elsewhere. It was busy but that’s no excuse. This is a very expensive place to eat and at the prices they charge everything should be absolutely perfect. It wasn’t and we certainly won’t be returning. The young staff were lovely and very polite and efficient. It’s the quality of the food and the numerous long delays that were the issue. I totally agree with a previous reviewer who said there are far superior places in the area to eat.

My wife and I decided to book a last-minute Sunday afternoon dinner at The Pig. Most of the Chew Valley restaurants in the local area were either closed or fully booked yesterday. Pros: Beautiful setting, location and ambience. Folk group playing in the afternoon sunshine. Cons: Bland, uninspiring, overpriced food. Painfully slow service (despite an abundance of staff). We won't be returning, sadly.

We finally used a voucher for lunch here today on a Tuesday. After the many negative TripAdvisor and Google reviews we were a bit apprehensive about our visit. I have to say we needn't have been worried. The venue and surrounding grounds are simply charming. The food and wine was well cooked, presented & delicious. The service was welcoming and unhurried, adding to the relaxed atmosphere. My daughter and her partner gave us a very generous Pig voucher for Xmas, and as we were meeting old friends in Bath, it seemed like a good idea to use it there. We live near the Pig hotel at Bridge in Kent, had eaten there 3 or 4 times, knew the food was average (at best), but decided to give the hotel side of things a chance at The Pig, Bath. Hotel - very pretty, same decor in public areas as the Kent Pig, friendly reception and bar staff. Our bedroom was a great size and beautifully decorated, but the 'ambient' lighting was ridiculous. I couldn't find anything - even with all the lights on! Seriously, coming out of the room into daylight felt as though I had been losing my sight and it was miraculously restored! I'm not advocating for strip lighting and 100 watt bulbs, but it was crazy!! Restaurant - well, this didn't disappoint - it was as average, actually worse, than the Pig at Bridge. I ordered Fish Pie, felt they couldn't go wrong with that. WELL - it arrived with a tiny portion of hispi cabbage on the side (is that in season?), searingly hot, to the point where I had to wait 10 minutes to start eating. When it had finally cooled down and I dug in, it turned out not to be fish pie, but a cheese soup under a bit of potato with a couple of bits of fish in it. It actually smelled quite nice, but the combination of heat, trying to eat what was essentially soup with a spoon and the difficulty of attracting someone's attention to GET a spoon in another very gloomy room (same lighting issue in the restaurant - and I am NOT saying I would like flood lights) meant I ate the cabbage, the potato (the bits that hadn't disintegrated in the sauce) and the three bits of fish I could find. Husband had lamb, didn't taste of much. Nice, but very expensive, wine list. Breakfast - once again, just OK. Service was not good. I gave the hotel two stars for the reception and bar staff and the lovely bar area. I'm sorry but this place is Emperor's New Clothes.

We booked The Pig for a family get together with some coming from London, Wales and Bath. Driving up the drive gave the impression of a stunning location although the cynic (and farmer) in me thought the placement of the chicken run would appeal to the masses. Anyway we were here to enjoy the food sourced within 25 miles. We were taken to our table and given menus. I chose the piggy bits to start (Hock Eggs & Colman’s Dressing and Saddleback Crackling & Apple Sauce) the Hock Eggs were ok, the Crackling underwhelming. followed by the Fish Pie (South Coast Fish Pie Agria Mash & Garden Greens) which is also what my wife ordered. Others on the table ordered the Pork Loin, Venison, Whole Sole and Confit of Duck. I have to say the Venison looked the better order. The Duck was a huge disappointment - one leg with more meat on a sparrow, the chap who had this was extremely disappointed as there was hardly any accompaniments as you are expected to pay an extra £4.75 for sides although some in our party ordered the Thrice Cooked Chips - well if they were cooked any longer there would be nothing left of them. My Fish Pie (which came with a tiny amount of greens which my Wife said was not local as they were out of season) arrived and while looked rather nice with its potato crust was lukewarm. On tackling the Pie, it was clear that what we had was actually a white soup under a thin layer of something with a few bites of fish. It tells you something when both my Wife and I had to ask for a spoon to eat the Pie/Soup with. I then had a Chocolate Mouse type thing which for £9.45 was another rip off. Probably the best thing for me was the floater coffee I had at the end of the meal. The staff, while attentive never seemed to smile - I guess they are not paid to do that as the bill comes with an already added 12.5% gratuity which you can remove if you want, how many do I wonder. We spent over £500.00 including drinks which just smacks of exploiting the public when especially they pride themselves on the 25mile food radius, £45.00 for a ribeye steak is rather extortionate compared to other establishments. I feel we paid Fine Dining/Michelin prices for underwhelming and mediocre food. To round off the day both my Wife and I got food poisoning from, what I can only assume. is the lukewarm Fish Pie. We shall certainly not be going back to this overpriced restaurant.

We were staying in the area and booked this quite sometime ago. We have stayed at The Pig near Bath and the one in Brockenhurst. So knew the food was really good and fresh. Todays lunch did not disappoint, we we collected from the lounge bar when our table was ready. Water for the table was offered, once ordered Bread and oil was bought round, the bread was the most delicious warm bread I have ever tasted! Our starters were bought out again very tasty, then the mains arrived, we both opted for a very tasty porchetta roast with all the trimmings. Throughout this the service was immaculate and given it was incredibly busy as it was Mother’s Day the service and food standards didn’t slip. We wouldn’t normally have a dessert but on this occasion we did and they were both delicious. We have had a lovely lunch with super friendly service. We would both absolutely return and would love to stay again soon 😍 thank you for a lovely lunch and the great service 😊

Overall, an underwhelming experience. I am a farmers daughter and always support local butchers and try to eat only in season food. I have wanted to try The Pig for a while as the ethos fits in with my ethos. However, visiting for a family lunch, I expected more. Whilst the property is impressive and the staff friendly, the food was average. For such local produce you would expect a reasonable cost as there are few travel miles etc. but the price is massively inflated and the dishes are not worth it. The chips in particular were very poor, thin fries cooked ‘thrice’ but with little potato left.

This venue has huge potential, the building, the setting, everything about it is perfect and was a huge attraction for me picking this place for a birthday event with friends. Sadly, the venue carries this place over the food - the food was a mixture of average to good. We had a booking for 2pm, slap bang in the middle of the day for Sunday roast and we are greeted with them running out of beef - to run out of one of your main components for a Sunday lunch booking seems poor. Service was friendly but incredibly slow. 5 of the 6 meals came out, then we all sat there waiting for 5 mins plus for the 6th meal and all the accompaniments - by this time, our meals were no longer very warm. For the cost the food was pretty average (starters and desserts were delicious) but considering everything is locally sourced and home grown - it was quite underwhelming on the whole.

First the good news, the ambiance, location and service were excellent. However, the food was poor. One dish, the pork was seventy percent fat (not marbled but fat). The dish was replaced by another choice but took 25 minutes to arrive when the other guests had finished their course. One of the childrens dishes, sausages, appeared devoid of meat and was not eaten (boxed up for the dog). The Sole whilst well cooked was extreme small. On the possède the steak was good and the childrens chicken was good also. Past experiences at the Pig have been good but whoever, or whatever, is happening on the food selection and preparation side has badly slipped. We will not revisit until some more positive signs appear

I had lunch yesterday at The Pig near Bath. The food was good, not brilliant, but good enough. The service was excellent- couldn’t fault it in any way. I felt it was rather expensive for a special fixed priced lunch. However, my main gripe was the dining chairs which were unbelievably uncomfortable. Disappointing Experience for a Special Occasion I recently visited the pig near bath for my wife's 40th birthday celebration, and unfortunately, our experience fell short of expectations. Despite booking a table several months in advance, our evening started with a 30-minute wait for drinks at the bar. Once seated, we were placed in a cold corner of the restaurant and neglected by the staff throughout the night. Despite constant reminders, service remained slow and disjointed. The situation worsened when my steak, ordered medium rare, arrived blue. This resulted in a delayed meal for me as it had to be sent back to the kitchen. Additionally, the Bun desserts tasted old and stale, and the candied nuts were inedible due to being rock hard. While one staff member provided excellent service, the rest of the team seemed disorganized and unresponsive. Even with only a few tables occupied, I had to personally request the bill after the meal. While I understand that the holiday season can be demanding, it shouldn't serve as an excuse for poor service. As customers who are generally easy to please, we had hoped for a special meal on this significant occasion. Unfortunately, our experience left us feeling underwhelmed. I never usually complain, however due such poor service I wrote a polite email to the restaurant to explain our experience. However I never got a reply, which tells me all I need to know. Won’t be going to the pig again.

I’d been wanting to visit this restaurant for a couple of years and had high expectations. However we both left feeling like we’d been taken for mugs. £20 for a medium glass of Rioja! Outrageous. Being charged for tap water, £30 for lamb then an extra £5 per side. And to top it all off a 12.5% service charge. I sorely object to being dictated to as to how much of a tip I should leave. Totally manipulative because they know for a fact people are unlikely to argue the point in front of a room full of other diners. So you’re basically shamed into leaving a ridiculous tip on top of the already very hefty prices. Not entirely sure where the whole tipping the waiting staff idea came from to be honest but that is another debate! Nobody tips me for doing my job! Anyway the lamb was delicious. The rest of the food was nice enough but the £10 dessert left a lot to be desired (although the sorbet was exquisite). Definitely a one off experience for us, not to be repeated

The Pig is a lovely hotel, the house itself is very inviting with large communal areas, attentive staff and a glorious setting. It’s quite easy to while away a couple of hours in the bar or drawing rooms. I’d come back just to sit down in front of one of those fires for the afternoon. But we were there for lunch, giving the restaurant a second chance after a poor lunch a few years ago. My issue last time was not following through on its supposed principle of using its kitchen garden and only using ingredients they can “grow or rear themselves”, or source from within 25 miles. Being within 25 miles of Bath and Bristol they can clearly source anything they want, from anywhere in the world, which makes the first part of their statement superfluous. Unfortunately nothing has changed in the restaurant. Staff were charming and it’s a unique place to spend your lunchtime, but the food lets it down. The only significant ingredients which could have possibly come from their own garden, in our meal, were a couple of salad leaves, a few slices of fennel and some badly drained, unseasoned kale, which leached water all over my main dish. The food largely has the feel of mass catering with frozen chips, frozen peas and dry pastry. There were a few highlights, like our ham hock bites and roughly cut tartare sauce, but generally flavours are under powered and lacklustre. I’ve had worse meals, but what I have issue with is the prices they charge for ot and promising, but failing to deliver on, an ethos of growing what they serve. The Newt, only a few miles away, does this approach well at a higher standard of cooking for the same price. The Pig has recently taken over Barnsley House, which used to have a fantastic, vegetable focused, garden menu. It will be a shame to see that replaced by this uninspiring offering.

Booked a two night stay at The Pig near Bath as a quiet getaway for myself and my partner, staying in The Hide. The hotel is located around 15 mins from Bath, by car, in a beautiful rural location and had lots of car parking, including EV. Hunstrete House is a stunning period property and on arrival we were checked in by Ben who made us feel very welcome, told us more about our stay and then followed us back to the car to take our luggage to the room. The Hide is located a short walk from the property across the opposite side of the Kitchen Gardens, adjacent to the Potting Sheds, the Pigs unique treatment rooms. The room was cosy, complete with log burner and larder in the bedroom downstairs and a huge bathroom with roll-top bath and stunning views from both bathroom and bedroom across fields with deer. We booked dinner in the main restaurant for the first evening and enjoyed Piggy Bits and Bread for starters, followed by steak and pork mains. The food was fantastic, made with seasonal ingredients grown at the property. After mains were cleared we were asked if we would like to have pudding or cheese in on of the many ante rooms located on the ground floor. We sat in the main bar, which was relatively quiet, next to the roaring log fire, one of many around the various rooms and finished our evening with cheese. Following dinner, we returned to our room to find the bed had been turned down and the log burner lit which was a lovely end to an enjoyable evening. Though breakfast wasn’t included in our room charge, we opted to eat at the hotel and can highly recommend the Eggs Hollandaise and the Full Pig Out! My partner also had one of the Potting Shed treatments, a bespoke massage that she found really relaxing, thanks Freya! In summary, fabulous romantic location, stunning food, beautiful rooms. Would be return…hell yeah!!!

Staff on the whole were helpful but not up to scratch for an expensive restaurant ie we poured our own wine after initial tasting with no one pouring more for us. No fish knives for the incredibly salty small lemon sole. It appears they are not used here! Cooked in butter is enough for this delicate fish no overpowering sauce needed. Steak was chewy and no better than a cheap restaurant. I'm afraid to say the menu needs to change drastically . No gratitude from staff when leaving. What a terrible shame as my daughter in laws birthday...should be very special. I'm afraid once bitten twice shy.

As others have commented recently, the restaurant is a bit of a rip-off. Over priced and not a very inspiring menu selection. Charging £5 for sides when the mains are so expensive but just come on their own is excessive. We were charged for tap water which I initially thought was just an error and didn’t challenge but now realise looking at other reviews that it is a rather underhand tactic here which I wish I’d challenged at the time. There are far better places in and around Bath which don’t leave you feeling you’ve been turned over!

Booked Boxing Day lunch treat for 3 generations of the family. We were not alone - lots of Grans being helped out of cars and into the restaurant. Staff were excellent - warm, friendly and welcoming. We ordered Duck breast, 2 x Braised pork loin, Turbot, Pigs in Blankets. All, without exception, overcooked, dry and re-heated. They pride themselves on ‘freshness’ and locally sourced ingredients. The Hotel is in grounds surrounded by dear, woodland and wildlife - a perfect Hotel Spa setting. Hugely disappointing then that they clearly identified this Holiday service as a money maker and allowed such poor food out of the pass. I suspect that if you are a corporate, business or Porsche driving customer arriving in March for a Spa treatment, 2 night stay and dinner, your experience will be infinitely more enjoyable, tho your wallet much lighter. Seriously - how can you overcook pigs in blankets?

Disappointing lunch. The turbot was not fresh and we requested a well done pork loin which arrived pink and then had to wait for the loin to be cooked further which meant I didn’t eat with the group. Sauces were VERY salty and roast potatoes just tossed in oil. We were offering teas/coffees and Piggy Fours as an apology but I wouldn’t return and cancelled New Years Eve Lunch.

Hugely disappointing visit for what was supposed to be a celebration lunch. My steak was £44 and was unbelievably gristly. The 'thrice cooked chips' tasted and closely resembled the frozen ones easily purchased at any cut price supermarket. The salad was the best bit of the main course - a few green leaves with a bit of dressing! The creme brulee aka Trinity Burnt Cream was good but in no way assuaged strong feelings of being ripped off. I was also less than impressed post-dining that my coat, which had been taken from me when I was seated and which I assumed had been hung up with some decorum, was buried 5 deep under a heap of other people's clobber. And I had to root around for it myself! Dear The Pig - please note - must do better. Style over substance all the way.

Three word review! Pretentious, overpriced, underwhelming. Overcooked chewy pigeon (but thankfully £16 worth was only two mouthfuls)! Bream was over salted! Pork loin was over 50% unrendered inedible fat! Venison was ok but again overcooked! A very disappointing birthday celebration!

We have just been for the Sunday lunch. The service was somewhat lacking. The roast dinners weren't up to scratch. We like el dente, but the broccoli could have been used in a brick wall. The roast potatoes were obviously just reheated, rubbery on the outside, and dry in the middle. The beef was very chewy and was very difficult to cut. My husband had the pork, and it was really nice. I'm not sure if it was just a bad day, but I certainly won't be eating there again.

Big fan of Bills in general and often pop in for brunch when in London for work. Visited the Bath branch during a weekend away with my partner, and have to say it didn’t disappoint. Service was top notch and food consistent with what I’d expect of Bills. All in all, deffo worth a visit- especially for a spot of brunch before visiting the Roman Baths or other nearby spots!
