My word the worst meal I have had in a while Super thin sandwich and some cheesy chips, ordered chicken strips which were nuggets. Awful couldn't eat it. £34 for the privilege and we only had 1 coke and 1 lemonade Never returning there I would not waste your money or time. Honestly not been this disappointed in a long time

Two of us came here for lunch. We had a friendly greeting but no attention. There is now a smaller lunch menu than most pubs. It used to have an imaginative and varied menu. We ordered spaghetti carbonnara. When it came it bore no resemblance to this classic Italian dish. It was a sloppy watery mess. The spaghetti was overcooked and floating in the sauce. The pub was quiet. The staff were chatting among themselves and the service was very casual. This is a nice pub in a good position on the waterside. It has gone right downhill in its standard and provision of good food, and in its atmosphere. A real shame.

Thursday evening drinks & food out with Friends. Really smart bar, landlady was really friendly and helpful. Quite a basic menu but decent pub food. Our friends had the burger and said it really nice. I went for pie and chips which I really enjoyed and my wife has chicken wrap which she really enjoyed so all good. Good selection of beers & wine. The family running the pub have only been there a few weeks but seem really nice and the few times I have been in for a drink has been a lovely atmosphere.

We've not been to The Pier in Lower Upnor for a while and popped in today as we were passing. It has new owners who have improved it no end. Its run by a family team who are friendly and polite and we were so impressed at the change we stayed for food. What a treat! The food was delicious, plentiful and extremely good value - and the service was excellent. We will definitely be going back and would recommend anyone in the area looking for a drink or food to give it a try.

Visited today. Appreciate that managers are new. The menu was limited...ordered cod, chips and peas. The dish came with salad, not peas. The cod and chips were very, very poor quality. I think they came from the bargain department of Iceland; tiny, dry, breaded, tasteless fish and overcooked cheapo chips. At £12.95 a portion it was daylight robbery. There were no desserts. The 'chef' and other staff then proceeded to eat a takeaway Macdonalds in the restaurant!!! I think that says it all really. Will not be recommending or returning. The Pier would have been far better off not doing food until they are properly prepared and have a qualified chef.

Three of us visited for a Sunday Roast. I'm vegetarian so asked for a vegetarian roast dinner but this wasn't catered for. So I requested a vegan burger instead of the meat for my roast dinner. This became very complicated for the staff as I tried to explain. I received a vegan burger and chips together with roast potatoes Yorkshire puddings and vegetables. 2 X Meals on 2 plates! The food was good and was shared amongst my friends as didn't want to leave any. Too full to fit in a dessert and was carried out to the car cos too stuffed to walk!! 😨 Please incorporate a vegan roast in your menu it would be so much easier to order.

14 of us stopped for drinks following a walk that we regularly do in the area, on a Monday afternoon. One of our group happened to bring some leftover snacks from the weekend and handed them out to us. The landlord came out shouting saying that we could not eat there (even though the sign outside said there was no food available on a Monday) and that it was not doing his business good. We did not bring a lunch to eat there (this we agree would not be acceptable) - however, the service was really slow and his overall attitude throughout was rude. We will not stop again.

Where to start!! Awkward upon entry, seemed as if nobody wanted to approach us to ask why we were there. The table wasn’t ready even though we booked in advance and paid sizeable deposit of £90 (£10 PP) Slow to take our order No condiments on the table and had to request them on two occasions. Couldn’t start the meal as we was wait for for the condiments for 5 minutes or more… English mustard was requested and we was given a miniature ramekin the size of a bottle lid for a table of 8 and it was actually American hotdog mustard. One salt an pepper pot to share Full deposit wasn’t deducted from the bill as one of the diners didn’t arrive. No itemised bill of what we had been charged and when requested it was a couple of scribbles on a piece of scrap paper with only subtotals of food and drink. Staff wasn’t very attentive and took for ever to come back to us. Food was bland and didn’t look appetising A dish had to be returned as it was cold. Automatic service charge of 10% when the service was shocking. When we questioned why the deserts were taking so long and why they were sitting on the service hatch… the manager approached the table and proceeded to tell us in a condescending manner, it was our fault as we asked for the fudge cake to be hot and the only way they could be warmed was by heating it with a 2000W light bulb… and the reason that the service was slow was because there were 8 of us… wouldn’t mind but 70% of us ordered a roast which seemed to consist of mostly frozen produce… I even offered to preorder our food upon booking the table, appreciating that it was a large group but was assured it wasn’t necessary. When I challenged the manager on how he was speaking to us and the inconsistencies with the bill, he became agressive and grabbed his notice from the entrance table which listed his terms and conditions and small print… of which, none were explained when I booked it in person. The remaining staff spoke to us as if we were stupid and expected us to know and look at all of their notices dotted around the place. I think they should take a leaf out of the the books of the other pubs within Upnor to see what quality food and service actually means. Certainly won’t be returning or recommending this place any time soon.

This is in a nice location and has great potential but fails to really deliver it's potential to get a 4 or 5 Star rating. The positives are that the general look and feel are fine and it's a spacious place. The food is of average price and average standard - nothing to write home about but nothing complain about either. You get what it says on the Tin basically. Unfortunately Real or Cask Ales were off during our visit (at the weekend) and upon our arrival the venue had mistakenly booked us at the wrong table to allow a Dog but proceeded to blame us for not telling them when booking, which was complete nonsense and I'm sure with retrospect the Gentleman may have handled that situation better, he did say thanks for our visit at the end which was massively appreciated. I scored a 3 but without the Dog incident would have scored a 4.

When I asked why, I was told we don't sell a mixer splash, you have to buy a whole bottle of each. They were £4.40 Disgusting policy. No wonder on a Saturday night at 8pm, it was virtually empty.

Bitterly disappointed by the roast dinner. It was so unbelievably bland! I don't know how any chef can serve that food with pride. Vegetables boiled to within an inch of their life, the roast potatoes were soggy, and again, lacked any form of flavour. The gravy was essentially water, in taste AND consistency! 'Rich homemade gravy'.....it was a joke. The disabled/baby changing facilities were disgusting. No bin to dipose of nappies, and the toilet itself was foul. To top it off, the baby changing table was filthy. The ONLY positive to this visit was the two staff members that we dealt with. They were both really polite, friendly and professional.

This has to be the worst service I’ve experienced. It’s as if someone’s said let’s be as awkward as we possibly can to customers. High chairs not allowed outside and staff look at you like you’re stupid for not knowing their silly rule. They then moan at you for taking a cutlery pot outside as these are also not allowed outside. They offer a turkey roast but you can only have turkey if you have all three meats you can’t have it on its own. The roast was grim, looks like prison food tastes awful all of the meats were dry with a kids bowl with half a chopped carrot and about 20 peas for veg... And for near £17 it’s not acceptable and I’ll not be returning.

Food was below average. The soup was quite tasty but was so thick you could stand a spoon up in it. The toasted ciabatta was too heavy on the chutney, bacon was so over cooked I could hardly cut some of it with a knife, and there was hardly any cheese. Unfortunately, on a couple of occasions, we overheard the chef being very rude to an older member of staff who was only trying to get to grips with the job as she hadn’t been there very long. I have given my review 3 stars purely for the service we received from the 3 waiting staff. They were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. As for the chef, our experience was spoiled because of his behaviour towards very good staff. He rated zero and we would not return.

The Pier is in a nice location close to the water front (as the name suggests). Inside is clean and nicely furnished, with a sea theme - mooring ropes adorning the bar, for example. The staff are friendly and helpful, although we did overhear the owner giving out to one of our waitresses. Unfortunately it's not really good value for money, and the food is, at best, average for the price. A single course and 1 drink each for 3 people, cost £85. You might expect that in a dedicated restaurant, however for what is essentially pub grub, it's quite steep. The food is not bad, per-se, but it's certainly nothing to write home about either, especially at current prices. I saw a review on here from 2021, saying that they couldn't believe it was £14 for a small portion of fish and chips - unfortunately the same small portion, is now £17. At that price, they had better be spectacular - but sadly, they are average at best.

Staff (with the exception of one lovely lady) were incredibly poor at communicating, there was a real lack of people skills. Our server failed to inform us on arrival that there is a limited menu on Sundays, only roast options available. When the food arrived it was disappointing, meat was OK but everything lacked flavour and no green veg included. Unfortunately we won't be returning.

Whenever I’ve been here with my family we are treated well. Good space, parking to the rear and plenty of seating to the front (outside) too. Had lunch (Saturday) and the food was great, well portioned and there’s plenty of drinks to chose from. Service was really good, there were 5 people looking after the place. What I can assume was the owner was running around like crazy but keeping everyone happy and everything running very smoothly despite the lack of staff. Good experience and I really hope this continues.

Wish I could put no stars! Thought we would try somewhere different for weekday lunch. Arrived to be greeted with a man that was clearly having a bad day and took it out on two elderly women! Totally unacceptable and uncalled for. It wasn't our fault he was on his own as he kept reminding us as we tried to place our food order. Extremely rude and in the end I told him he could stick his lunch and took our business elsewhere.

We'd passed this pub many times, and said we must try it. The opportunity finally presented itself, and we dropped in on a Monday for lunch. Car parking was sufficient - there is a second car park around the side, and the option of the public car park a hundred yards away. The menu was broad, and there was a "two mains for £18" option, which we took. We followed our scampi with lemon meringue pie. The food was good. Ordering was at the bar, or using a QR code. Despite it being quiet, there was a short wait to order as the barmaid was involved in other things. The wait for the food to be brought was reasonable. Afterwards, we had a look at the small collection of animals around the outside area, which children would enjoy.

Perfect classic pub scran. Good value and defo fills you up. Ice machine was broken but not to worry, it’s November. The young, short brown haired lad with the glasses made our quick meal perfect with his consistent professionalism. Would recommend!

Loved this place and have been coming for over a decade, but new parking enforcement have made it impossible to visit. Got hit with a fine a couple of months ago because the team never told us we had to put our registration number in, despite going to the bar three times and ordering food. Subsequently got another fine as the parking company changed the maximum parking term from 5 hours to 1, without any notice. The parking company expressed that the changes were made after local running groups and other visitors took up parking spaces the pub wanted for their own customers. I can totally appreciate this, but the knock on effect to those of us who visit the other retailers is going to have adverse consequences - narrow minded.
