We needed a break to recharge. After a couple of days deciding where to go, we settled on the Pier House. We travelled down to Cornwall from Oxfordshire, stopping off for lunch on the way as you can book in after 15:00. The Pier House hasn't long been reopened after a fire, and we couldn't fault it in any way whatsoever. The restaurant and the outside dining area are extremely relaxing with friendly staff. There are other restaurants nearby for people that may be looking to stay longer than a couple of days. The interior has been designed and built to an excellent standard. We were very lucky to be blessed with fantastic weather, walking around the village, harbour, and the shingle beach in t-shirts. In fact, I wished I had taken my swimming stuff and joined the people swimming in the crystal clear water. It's said you can't please all the people all the time, but this place ticked everything for us, and we would not hesitate to recommend it.

Impromptu visit to the restaurant on a grey Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately on arrival we were told we could eat in the lower front but couldn't sit in the restaurant unless we had booked!! Not sure of the logic or logistics of this. We ordered our food at the bar, which would probably be the only disenerable difference as to where we sat and had a lengthy wait for our food. We both had simple meals of Burger, Fish and Chips which was fine.

We really enjoyed our visit and meal at the Pier House, Although the menu is not extensive, the food was excellent. Personally I would like the option of vegetables as a side. (We were amazed that each table had a tall lit candle, they seemed precarious and you could see the dried flower decoration had been singed already. Just thinking, after the previous fire here) Service was very good.

We went twice during our 1 week stay in Charlestown and had an excellent meal both times. The menu is not huge or imaginative but gives just enough choice. Food was well cooked and flavoursome with the bonus that the fish and chips were gluten free. Staff generally very attentive and helpful. Prices seemed about right for the quality and location.

This pub/restaurant/ hotel has been recently refurbished from top to bottom- very tastefully done and is much much better than it was before the fire. A number of nice cosy areas - most with sea or harbour views. The set lunch was a revelation- good choice, very well cooked, fantastic value for money - and big portions considering it was a set menu. Slightly slow service was our only gripe, but when it arrives, it is very friendly!

We have not eaten here since they have refurbished the Pier House and when I walked in I was amazed with the decor! The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. Our waitress gave us time to order from the menu and did a courtesy check during our meal. The food was delicious and great presentation. There was a lovely calm atmosphere, while we enjoyed a family dinner after a long journey down to Cornwall! Another waitress took an interest with a book my son was reading that evening and shared her enthusiasm with Percy Jackson - thank you! Would highly recommend eating at the Pier House

Have eaten twice here since it reopened and am very disappointed. There's very limited vegetarian options (always is in the St Austell brewery chain) and very expensive for what you get. This time I had the cheese and chutney sandwich and there was basically no cheese in it so had to send it back, still not a very generous amount. The bread was dry, crisps were stale and no dressing on the salad. They also got our drinks order wrong. The setting is lovely and the revamp looks great. It's just unfortunate the food is very unsatisfying. I won't be eating here again.

We’re local and have been going to the Pier House for many years. We were heartbroken when the fire happened and closed the hotel for so long. The refit and layout is absolutely fantastic, the ambience and staff are absolutely fantastic and they offer the highest level of service and I cannot fault any of them. Unfortunately, we felt the meal we had was simply, just ok. The food wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t particularly great either. Which disappointed us. There is a lot of hot competition nearby, and throughout Cornwall, with amazing food, which makes it imperative to be on point with food offerings. I’m sorry to say that it’s unlikely that we will eat there again any time soon, but we will still pop in for pint. Of course, if the food is elevated to their previous standards, we would definitely book a table.

Big place, dog friendly, great location right on the waterfront. Lots of outdoor seating. I sat inside. The handpulled cask beers were St Austell Brewery's Tribute Cornish Pale Ale, St Austell Brewery's Hicks Special Drought and St Austell Brewery's Proper Job IPA, which is the one I tried. I ordered starter of Goat's Cheese Parfait - honey, pinenuts, sundried tomato, pistachio crumb, caramelised onion chutney, peashoots and crostini. For main I ordered a Greek Feta Salad with a side of buttered new potatoes. The salad was a glorious concoction, a colourfully vibrant medley, and a humongous portion served in a large bowl. Best Greek Salad I've ever had and I have had many originals all over Greece. Being a snorty piglet I had to try the West Country Meringue for pud - strawberries, vanilla cream, Belgian dark chocolate sauce and mint sugar. Everything was exquisitely yum. Food was top notch. Decor and vibe was brilliant. Good staff team but I really do have to give a special shout out to the wonderful and marvelous waiter, Chester, who was professional, polite and totally charming. Easy to remember the name as it's my home city. What a lovely, courteous, über helpful young man. Easy on the eye too!! 😂 Chester is a huge asset to the Pier and I hope your boss reads this. Exemplary service. Bravo to the Pier team. Super highly recommended as food was delicious and beautifully presented. We are locals who often visited before the fire. This was our first time since reopening. When we went on Sunday we thought the decor looked lovely but were dissapointed in the menu it seemed meals had been tweaked to try and modernise them. My partner and I chose the burger with black garlic mayonnaise which we did not enjoy, the burger was spoilt by the black garlic. Then when we looked at the desserts they were quite expensive and some just didn't tempt us.

Had a friend over from Australia and met up with my old schoolfriend and her husband who came down from Teignmouth so wanted to have somewhere memorable to go for dinner. The Pier House's position at the end of Charlestown Harbour was brilliant - we had drinks outside first and then had dinner inside. Three of us had a couple of starters each, one had the haddock and we shared a feta salad between us which was a perfect balance. Great views as the sun went down. Food very good and waitress was excellent as we juggled with our choices! We had a great evening. Thanks

Thoroughly disappointing. I had booked a table for three of us to have lunch. I ordered drinks one of which was wrong. We ordered the pork Sunday roast. My husbands plate was not placed on the table even though it was hot,he was offered his ate to place down on the table, even though staff could very easily have done this. There was no serving spoon for the vegetable dish, and we had to ask,but this was ignored again by the staff. I asked for apple sauce to accompany our lunch it arrived eventually. The chocolate brownie and ice cream was very bland, not nice at all. The only saving grace was the sorbet my husband ordered. Thank goodness the tea and coffee were up to scratch,as this was the only saving grace. After spending over £100, for this family meal,we left extremely disappointed and will sadly, not be returning here or recommending to family or friends. In my opinion, even the bill at half the cost would have still been too much. Not impressed at all.

Restaurant review: I really hate leaving any kind of negative review but feel that I should be honest as it may help the restaurant improve. 4 of us visited on 23rd July for dinner and drinks. My husband and I were excited to have one special meal out whilst here on holiday and have always had good food at the Pier house in the past. We had booked the table for 7 or 7.15pm (I think -our friends who live in Charlestown booked it) but had to phone and ask to move it back to 8pm. They said it was absolutely fine to move it as there wasn't anyone having the table after us. Unfortunately that night there was a big party happening which meant that service was very slow. The menu was pretty small with about 10 things to choose from. Prices are on the higher end but similar to other restaurants in Charlestown. I struggled to find something I wanted really but chose the lemon sole, something I don't cook myself at home. It took about 1hr 20mins for our food to come. I know they were busy but this is too long. The staff did apologize for the long wait. Two of us also had a bottle of wine to share. We were all disappointed with the size of the meal. A small piece of fish (husband's was a bit bigger thankfully) and a small side salad which included 2 or 3 of the tiniest potatoes. It was nice enough but nothing special sadly. Very expensive for what it was with our bill coming to almost 150quid for 4 pints of beer, 1 bottle of wine and 4 meals. No starters and no desserts. Some positives were: the staff were friendly, toilets are super clean and they've done a good job with the refurbishment. Unfortunately, the high prices, small portions and slow service left us feeling pretty dissatisfied overall. :-(

Our food rocked up from our server but with no cutlery which we asked for but after 5 minutes we still didn't have any so I went to get it. We couldn't believe how small the portions were of both our meals, like light lunches. Pier House Hotel, Charlestown Review Pier House Hotel, Charlestown: This hotel certainly deserves a five-star rating. The location is absolutely beautiful, offering stunning views and a charming atmosphere. However, note that you'll need to park (for free currently) in a nearby location and walk a few minutes to reach the hotel. The car park's surface is quite rough, resembling an off-road experience with huge rocks, so keep that in mind. The hotel itself is superb, seemingly housed in an old listed building, which adds to its charm. We were given a traditional key instead of a keycard, which was a nice touch. The room was lovely and spacious, and we appreciated the complimentary cans of lager. Additionally, the room was equipped with useful items such as a loaner shopping bag, giant sea coats, and binoculars, which guests could use during their stay. There were coffee-making facilities in the room, although there was no milk provided, which was a bit odd but not a major issue. The bed was big and comfortable, and the view of the harbour was fantastic. Breakfast included a cooked option, and the chef prepared a delicious full English breakfast. One evening, I tried the restaurant, but unfortunately, they had run out of almost everything. This might have been my fault for booking after 7 pm. Overall, despite a few minor inconveniences, the Pier House Hotel's stunning location, charming atmosphere, and excellent service make it well worth the stay. The friendliness of the staff and the high level of cleanliness were particularly impressive.

I ordered a pint of Korev, just shy of £6! Took a menu and found it to be pretty uninspiring. Not much selection in the way of starters or nibbles, the only real choices being a seemingly overpriced and bland selection of mains. Finished my pint and went to find somewhere else. Have been here many times before and always found it to be good but something lacking nowadays.

Went with a friend to the nearly reopened Pier House. Looking around, it has been tastefully decorated and is all sparkly new. Staff friendly on arrival. We arrived at 6:30 and we wanted to eat in the restaurant area. We were told no tables were available even though there were several tables with nobody at them. I asked if we could have one of them but was refused as 'the guests would be arriving soon'. We were told that we could eat in the bar and to find a table, then order at the counter. We found an empty table and ordered some sharing food and drinks. Both were very nice. By this time, we had been in there for an hour. We decided to order our mains and another drink. This was then ruined as 1 couple came in with a large dog. Within a few minutes, a group of 4 people came in with 2/3 dogs. The dogs were put onto the newly decorated furnishings. Plus, you had staff members petting the animals. My friend and I are not dog lovers, so we paid for our food and moved to another table. We were deciding what we were going to have for our mains when in walked several couples, all with dogs. We asked again if we could go to the restaurant area as the table that was available over an hour ago was still available. Again, we were refused, citing that it was taken. Another member of staff said earlier that it was to do with not enough staff and not about reservations. With this dog invasion, we decided to take ourselves up to the Longstore, where we had a very good meal in a dog free environment. As local residents, we were disappointed with our experience at the Pier House. I'm not sure if we will ever go back because of the dog issue. We were disappointed that we did not get a chance to sample any other food from the menu 😞

We had really been looking forward to the reopening of this iconic venue. I would congratulate the interior designers on the amazing transformation of the Pier House Inn. It looks stunning and the location is everything you would want. However, we booked for an evening meal hoping for a great evening out. I just wish the people responsible for designing the menu had put as much effort in to it and the designers of the interior. The menu is truly bland and dull. I do not eat meat but i do eat fish but the choice of fish and chips everywhere i go just gets so boring. There isn't even a decent vegetarian option (or two or three would be good) and to have three salads on an evening menu is not exciting. You do not expect such a lovely venue to basically have a take away menu, burgers, fish and chips. You are better of going here for a drink and getting a takeaway on the way home than spending a fortune to eat it in. Every St.Austell brewery pub is guilty of this samey menu. Also, very disappointed that two of our meal choices (my fellow diners) the pork and linguinie were sold out and my favourite drink Rattler on draft is no longer going to be available. Really disappointed. So great venue for a drink with a view but i would recommend taking your dining experience elswhere. Dining out is a treat, it is not cheap or even good value any more so it should be somewhere worth the trip out.

just opened when we went, refurbished after a fire, superb interior, our Server, a young chap with a beard brought us our Champagne, then asked us if he should open it, or we wanted to do that ? that was weird, but eventually he both opened it and served us, after that we got a properly experienced Server, Amanda, with 15 years of experience, she was truly excellent, and the food was very very good, so can highly recommend this place

Just visited Charlestown and the Pier House Hotel whilst on a break. Great to see it’s all ready to open again this Friday after a serious fire. Had a lunchtime meal overlooking the harbour. Fantastic setting. Service with a smile from Jennie. Food and drink excellent. Would highly recommend.

Popped in for lunch - had the special 'Lamb Burger & fries' currently served in take away boxes due to damage to the kitchen. Little pricey for a take away, but very tasty & served quickly.

Lovely lunch for our 10th anniversary. Friendly staff and good food, Staff explained food would be served in a box due to the recent fire which was fine and a bit quirky!

This was the first time we had visited the Pier House in Charlestown and I have to say it won't be the last! The atmosphere was very homely and the staff were very helpful and friendly. However, the best part of our visit was the food. I ordered fish and chips and I have to say it was the best fish I've ever tasted. The only downside was the chips were not homemade which would have made it perfect. Anyway, Whoever made it, needs a pat on the back! I'm sure the Pier House gets loads of returning customers because the food, service, location, and ambiance are second to none! Thank you

Limited service and menu after their kitchen fire earlier in the year but good to see it up and running. Food served in take away boxes as limited kitchen facilities.

Unfortunately there was a recent fire so food wasn't up to its usual standard. Brilliant views and pleasant staff.

Popped in for lunch as it was one of the few places in town that had a good amount of indoor seating. Appreciated the efforts to keep things up and running after the fire, had pizzas chips and a katsu burger between us and they were all delicious! The staff were extremely helpful and clearly wanted to do the most to ensure everyone had a great meal.

Was charged £9.95 for a large glass of Pinot Grigio. That works out at £30 a bottle. The wine wasn’t chilled and I’ve tasted better £6 a bottle at the supermarkets. Also charged £5 for a pint of weak tasteless st austell draught amber ale. Staff clueless. The place was less than 1/4 full at 7pm on august bank holiday week. Most people were “nursing” halves of larger then leaving. 5 star prices for a 2 star experience clearly isn’t working.

It is incredibly disappointing that you have gone cashless and I will be spending my money elsewhere. Customer choice should be paramount and i feel that this rules out those who prefer cash

Had a great night at the Quiz Night at the Harbourside. Brilliant atmosphere and a good laugh. We had the vegan burger (with proper melty vegan cheese!) and a double stacked cheese burger - which both were just delicious. A very welcoming team, thanks for a great night!

Wow!!! Hats off to the chef!!! I ordered the tandoori flatbread which sounds incredible on the menu but was told they had just finished doing lunch, so I picked something else from the packed menu. It was then the chef offered to make me my original order of the tandoori flatbread. I have to say it was incredible!! My girlfriend had the feta salad and couldn’t stop saying how amazing it was. Hats off to the chef she was incredible. The bar staff are all so friendly and accommodating too. I’m so glad it rained now and forced us inside for a refreshing pint and some of the tastiest food we’ve had during this holiday. Keep up the great work guys!!!

The ice creams here are beautiful! Really generous portions and are very well presented. The customer service we received was outstanding, my daughter had a massive meltdown (ASD) and they were nothing but supportive, understanding and helpful. We'd had a very tough day today with meltdowns galore and this one was by far the worst of the day yet I never felt alone or judged. People like you make the biggest difference and I am so very grateful for you going out of your way to help and care. Thank you x
