We’re local and have been going to the Pier House for many years. We were heartbroken when the fire happened and closed the hotel for so long. The refit and layout is absolutely fantastic, the ambience and staff are absolutely fantastic and they offer the highest level of service and I cannot fault any of them. Unfortunately, we felt the meal we had was simply, just ok. The food wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t particularly great either. Which disappointed us. There is a lot of hot competition nearby, and throughout Cornwall, with amazing food, which makes it imperative to be on point with food offerings. I’m sorry to say that it’s unlikely that we will eat there again any time soon, but we will still pop in for pint. Of course, if the food is elevated to their previous standards, we would definitely book a table.

Big place, dog friendly, great location right on the waterfront. Lots of outdoor seating. I sat inside. The handpulled cask beers were St Austell Brewery's Tribute Cornish Pale Ale, St Austell Brewery's Hicks Special Drought and St Austell Brewery's Proper Job IPA, which is the one I tried. I ordered starter of Goat's Cheese Parfait - honey, pinenuts, sundried tomato, pistachio crumb, caramelised onion chutney, peashoots and crostini. For main I ordered a Greek Feta Salad with a side of buttered new potatoes. The salad was a glorious concoction, a colourfully vibrant medley, and a humongous portion served in a large bowl. Best Greek Salad I've ever had and I have had many originals all over Greece. Being a snorty piglet I had to try the West Country Meringue for pud - strawberries, vanilla cream, Belgian dark chocolate sauce and mint sugar. Everything was exquisitely yum. Food was top notch. Decor and vibe was brilliant. Good staff team but I really do have to give a special shout out to the wonderful and marvelous waiter, Chester, who was professional, polite and totally charming. Easy to remember the name as it's my home city. What a lovely, courteous, über helpful young man. Easy on the eye too!! 😂 Chester is a huge asset to the Pier and I hope your boss reads this. Exemplary service. Bravo to the Pier team. Super highly recommended as food was delicious and beautifully presented. (Can't help but notice that Chester gets lots of mentions and I'm not surprised, lovely kind person.)

We are locals who often visited before the fire. This was our first time since reopening. When we went on Sunday we thought the decor looked lovely but were dissapointed in the menu it seemed meals had been tweaked to try and modernise them. My partner and I chose the burger with black garlic mayonnaise which we did not enjoy, the burger was spoilt by the black garlic. Then when we looked at the desserts they were quite expensive and some just didn't tempt us.

Had a friend over from Australia and met up with my old schoolfriend and her husband who came down from Teignmouth so wanted to have somewhere memorable to go for dinner. The Pier House's position at the end of Charlestown Harbour was brilliant - we had drinks outside first and then had dinner inside. Three of us had a couple of starters each, one had the haddock and we shared a feta salad between us which was a perfect balance. Great views as the sun went down. Food very good and waitress was excellent as we juggled with our choices! We had a great evening. Thanks

Thoroughly disappointing. I had booked a table for three of us to have lunch. I ordered drinks one of which was wrong. We ordered the pork Sunday roast. My husbands plate was not placed on the table even though it was hot,he was offered his ate to place down on the table, even though staff could very easily have done this. There was no serving spoon for the vegetable dish, and we had to ask,but this was ignored again by the staff. I asked for apple sauce to accompany our lunch it arrived eventually. The chocolate brownie and ice cream was very bland, not nice at all. The only saving grace was the sorbet my husband ordered. Thank goodness the tea and coffee were up to scratch,as this was the only saving grace. After spending over £100, for this family meal,we left extremely disappointed and will sadly, not be returning here or recommending to family or friends. In my opinion, even the bill at half the cost would have still been too much. Not impressed at all.

Restaurant review: I really hate leaving any kind of negative review but feel that I should be honest as it may help the restaurant improve. 4 of us visited on 23rd July for dinner and drinks. My husband and I were excited to have one special meal out whilst here on holiday and have always had good food at the Pier house in the past. We had booked the table for 7 or 7.15pm (I think -our friends who live in Charlestown booked it) but had to phone and ask to move it back to 8pm. They said it was absolutely fine to move it as there wasn't anyone having the table after us. Unfortunately that night there was a big party happening which meant that service was very slow. The menu was pretty small with about 10 things to choose from. Prices are on the higher end but similar to other restaurants in Charlestown. I struggled to find something I wanted really but chose the lemon sole, something I don't cook myself at home. It took about 1hr 20mins for our food to come. I know they were busy but this is too long. The staff did apologize for the long wait. Two of us also had a bottle of wine to share. We were all disappointed with the size of the meal. A small piece of fish (husband's was a bit bigger thankfully) and a small side salad which included 2 or 3 of the tiniest potatoes. It was nice enough but nothing special sadly. Very expensive for what it was with our bill coming to almost 150quid for 4 pints of beer, 1 bottle of wine and 4 meals. No starters and no desserts. Some positives were: the staff were friendly, toilets are super clean and they've done a good job with the refurbishment. Unfortunately, the high prices, small portions and slow service left us feeling pretty dissatisfied overall. :-(

The refurb of the Pier House is great and we've had a few drinks in there since the reopening and we're really looking forward to our first meal in there but it wasn't great. The evening menu is very limited with only 10 dishes to choose from with 3 being salads, we went for fish and chips and burger cause tbh there wasn't much else to choose from! Our food rocked up from our server but with no cutlery which we asked for but after 5 minutes we still didn't have any so I went to get it. We couldn't believe how small the portions were of both our meals, like light lunches. My burger wasn't hot and the bun was hard and crispy so it was sent back, it was better on the re fire but just wasn't that tasty, the fish was alright but nothing more.

Pier House Hotel, Charlestown Review Pier House Hotel, Charlestown: This hotel certainly deserves a five-star rating. The location is absolutely beautiful, offering stunning views and a charming atmosphere. However, note that you'll need to park (for free currently) in a nearby location and walk a few minutes to reach the hotel. The car park's surface is quite rough, resembling an off-road experience with huge rocks, so keep that in mind. The hotel itself is superb, seemingly housed in an old listed building, which adds to its charm. We were given a traditional key instead of a keycard, which was a nice touch. The room was lovely and spacious, and we appreciated the complimentary cans of lager. Additionally, the room was equipped with useful items such as a loaner shopping bag, giant sea coats, and binoculars, which guests could use during their stay. There were coffee-making facilities in the room, although there was no milk provided, which was a bit odd but not a major issue. The bed was big and comfortable, and the view of the harbour was fantastic. Breakfast included a cooked option, and the chef prepared a delicious full English breakfast. One evening, I tried the restaurant, but unfortunately, they had run out of almost everything. This might have been my fault for booking after 7 pm. Overall, despite a few minor inconveniences, the Pier House Hotel's stunning location, charming atmosphere, and excellent service make it well worth the stay. The friendliness of the staff and the high level of cleanliness were particularly impressive.

First visit issue in kitchen only 4 things on menu, no problem ordered the burger was very nice! 2nd visit I ordered the burger again and it had to be sent back as cold and when received again fries were rubbery as if they’d been in a microwave, I think for nearly £20 for a burger I expect something as simple as fries to be good! Arrived solo for a couple pints and some nibbles 5/7/24 Standing at the bar, appeared the area manager or Rep was engaged in conversation with a staff member so the queue just built and we waited whilst they talked shop. I ordered a pint of Korev, just shy of £6! Took a menu and found it to be pretty uninspiring. Not much selection in the way of starters or nibbles, the only real choices being a seemingly overpriced and bland selection of mains. Finished my pint and went to find somewhere else. Have been here many times before and always found it to be good but something lacking nowadays.

Went with a friend to the nearly reopened Pier House. Looking around, it has been tastefully decorated and is all sparkly new. Staff friendly on arrival. We arrived at 6:30 and we wanted to eat in the restaurant area. We were told no tables were available even though there were several tables with nobody at them. I asked if we could have one of them but was refused as 'the guests would be arriving soon'. We were told that we could eat in the bar and to find a table, then order at the counter. We found an empty table and ordered some sharing food and drinks. Both were very nice. By this time, we had been in there for an hour. We decided to order our mains and another drink. This was then ruined as 1 couple came in with a large dog. Within a few minutes, a group of 4 people came in with 2/3 dogs. The dogs were put onto the newly decorated furnishings. Plus, you had staff members petting the animals. My friend and I are not dog lovers, so we paid for our food and moved to another table. We were deciding what we were going to have for our mains when in walked several couples, all with dogs. We asked again if we could go to the restaurant area as the table that was available over an hour ago was still available. Again, we were refused, citing that it was taken. Another member of staff said earlier that it was to do with not enough staff and not about reservations. With this dog invasion, we decided to take ourselves up to the Longstore, where we had a very good meal in a dog free environment. As local residents, we were disappointed with our experience at the Pier House. I'm not sure if we will ever go back because of the dog issue. We were disappointed that we did not get a chance to sample any other food from the menu 😞

We had really been looking forward to the reopening of this iconic venue. I would congratulate the interior designers on the amazing transformation of the Pier House Inn. It looks stunning and the location is everything you would want. However, we booked for an evening meal hoping for a great evening out. I just wish the people responsible for designing the menu had put as much effort in to it and the designers of the interior. The menu is truly bland and dull. I do not eat meat but i do eat fish but the choice of fish and chips everywhere i go just gets so boring. There isn't even a decent vegetarian option (or two or three would be good) and to have three salads on an evening menu is not exciting. You do not expect such a lovely venue to basically have a take away menu, burgers, fish and chips. You are better of going here for a drink and getting a takeaway on the way home than spending a fortune to eat it in. Every St.Austell brewery pub is guilty of this samey menu. Also, very disappointed that two of our meal choices (my fellow diners) the pork and linguinie were sold out and my favourite drink Rattler on draft is no longer going to be available. Really disappointed. So great venue for a drink with a view but i would recommend taking your dining experience elswhere. Dining out is a treat, it is not cheap or even good value any more so it should be somewhere worth the trip out.

£5.50 for cheesy chips. Spot the cheese !! Barely more chips than medium McDonald’s and not even a handful of cheese here. Poor value. £9.00 for 1 Scone with cream, jam and a coffee. 🙃

Terrible cream tea. It was spongy and seemed as if it was microwaved. If this is how they do it in Cornwall i am going back to Devon.

Great spot sitting in the sun, however the worst cream tea I have had in my life! The scones came out warmed, we asked if they were microwaved and were told yes, we asked if there were some not microwaved we were told no and that’s the way they do it, they tasted bland, spongy and awful… not great for £8.50, don’t bother just have a beer instead!
