I didn’t stay here so can’t comment on the rooms. I had a meal here, the staff of friendly and welcoming, the venue and location is very nice. What let it down for me was the portion size of the food and the price. I left feeling ripped off and still hungry.

The nicest welcome I could have asked for, which given my train had arrived at the station an hour late at 11pm, and I'd had to walk the forty minutes to the hotel, was wonderful. The room is cosy luxurious, and in the morning they kindly sent me off with a desperately needed coffee. Great people

Called in the beautiful harbour side pub for food and drink. Initially bought the drinks at the bar while we chose the food. That was where the idyllic dream ended. Served by a lady called Tamsin who was clearly annoyed that customers had the cheek of wanting to be served while she was telling another worker some story, she couldn't have been ruder or more dismissive. I ended up paying top prices for the drinks. This included £6.30 for a cider that normally costs a little more than a fiver elsewhere. We skipped the food and went elsewhere in the village to eat, where there were a lot of excellent quality eateries, and the staff were pleased to serve us.

We visited on a Sunday lunchtime after a walk , we just wanted a snack so ordered a bowl of soup each. What an absolutely charming pub this is , the staff were a delight , the decor light and fresh and everywhere immaculate. I cleverly tipped my bowl of hot soup all over my lap , the table and the floor 😩. The staff were there in an instant with cloths and smiles , and an assurance that they’d get me another bowl straight away. I felt such an idiot but they were so sweet , my new bowl arrived quickly , and they couldn’t do enough for us. The soup was delicious. We were inside as it was cold , but there’s a lovely outside area that overlooks the old harbour and the sea. I’d highly recommend the Pier House , we will definitely be back - thank you !

Lovely pub, restaurant and hotel, right by the coast and alongside Charlestown harbour. Good food, friendly staff and great views. Also recently refurbished throughout.

Busy sunny Sunday but service not too bad on waiting time. I had their roasted butternut and it was absolutely delicious. My daughter had the steak, asked for medium rare but the edges were a little burnt, but still edible. Lots and lots of tables and chairs all around and you can find a quiet place. A pleasant experience no issues. Yes I Would go again. Lovely venue for a large party. We didn’t stay in the hotel.

Just had 2 lovely nights at this hotel, attention to detail in the room we stayed in was amazing, very homely and comfortable with nice touches such as the homemade bics, fresh milk, dry robes . Bed was very comfortable. Staff all seemed to take great pride in their workplace and I didn’t come across anyone who wasn’t very friendly and helpful, and we were made to feel comfortable and relaxed. Quality of the breakfast was great, lovely coffee and surroundings. I think a lot of hotels could take a leaf out their book on how to run a place that makes you want to come back and stay as soon as you can, lovely place and highly recommended, thanks very much to all the team, we were so impressed

What a champion find. Right on the harbour side. Well appointed and tastefully decorated rooms. Fabulous extra touches. Breakfast was well cooked with a range of choices and dietry requirements met. Friendly and helpful team on reception, bar and in the restaurant. We had a small room so no sea views but the room was great. Beautiful views of the harbour from the main bar and eating areas.

Booked a two day getaway for R & R through Booking.com. Stayed Saturday and Sunday nights on B&B basis. (1st & 2nd March) We checked in around 3pm and were taken to the room by friendly staff member. The room was introduced as a "Cabin" style room. At first we thought that it was quite small and very little room to move. Facilities were excellent and very clean and modern. Especially the bathroom. Again small but useable. Bedroom space was very different, tiny area, hanging space was at a premium. 3 shirts and the space was full. The bed was enclosed in a tight corner with only one access side, so exiting was difficult to say the least. I enquired about a bigger room and the extra cost to do so. I was informed that if someone did not show up I would be informed and the room would be offered. That unfortunately did not happen. I explained that my wife had limited mobility and found it difficult to enter and exit tight spaces but it appeared to fall on deaf ears. A follow up to say sorry no rooms were available might have helped us decide not to stay the second night. I think maybe it would have been better to book direct with the Hotel and the possibility of discussing room size etc. I thought for the money we paid Booking.com the room would have been more standard size. I get Genius discount with Booking.com so my assumption was completely wrong. We likened the room more to "Rabbit Hutch" more than "Cabin" For the price we paid I would consider the room expensive and more to be used as single occupancy rather than double. All other aspects of our stay were lovely, the staff, the public area's, food and drinks were all very good. The only other worry I have is parking ticket arriving at a later date. I asked at the time of check in if it was in order to park just up the road in the general Car Park and was told to give my Reg number to reception and that would be ok. On leaving the Car Park I noticed the "Have you paid an displayed" sign. We gave our details to a young lady service at the bar and she said she would enter it at reception on our room number (4). I checked later after returning from a walk and found it had not been and was done then but informed there would be a problem because the Car Park was not monitored. I hope that statement was correct!

Room location and staff and breakfast could not be faulted as for the evening menu it was very poor not a lot of choice portions small for the price and to fancy The Rashleigh menu is much better for choice etc Will stay at the Pier house again definitely but eat elsewhere

Having visited Cornwall multiple times each year for many years, we have never been to Charlestown. Would highly recommend this historic hotel. Rooms were in keeping but had all you would expect from a modern hotel. Nice touches such as complimentary Korev in the room mini bar fridge and well stocked mini bar, Elemis Toiletries and raincoats for ‘Cornish adventures.’ The staff were all friendly but professional. Service was excellent. The food was delicious and the Sunday Lamb Roast was truly the best that I have ever eaten. Lots to do in the local area and many little independent restaurants and bars within Charlestown to walk to. Overall a perfect winter stay

Beautiful views, reasonably priced Brew and amazing food.

Excellent place to eat. Great location, tasty food and nothing is too much trouble for the friendly staff. We've eaten here a couple of times a month for several months now and have never been disappointed.

Cider was fantastic but the food menue had no cohesion and was expensive. Should suggest beer to go with food.

My wife and I plus our dog we're made to feel very welcome by the staff as soon as we entered the hotel. We were offered tasters of the beers available and a loyalty card for beers served. The food we ordered was perfect and exactly as we had requested due to my allergies. Fantastic customer service from all of the staff creating a lovely homely feel plus welcome we received from staff and locals alike are a credit to Charlestown. Friendly staff, great location, decent breakfast and comfortable room.

We had an amazing stay at Pier House. Rooms were lovely, extremely clean with lots of well thought out products in. We especially liked the Elemis shower products and complimentary beer. Food at the restaurant was amazing, best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Super friendly and attentive staff who made the experience even better.

Beautiful hotel, the room was fantastic, amazing attention to detail. The staff were lovely and very helpful. Dinner was fantastic, the best fish and chips I've ever had and very reasonably priced menu. The menu had a massive choice for myself being gluten free which was very refreshing. Beautiful cabin room, service was on point and friendly staff also you can’t beat the harbor side and sea view. All in all great stay.

Beautiful place, excellent helpful staff, food and drink expensive. The only criticism is the disabled access. Had to put on coats and outside clothing to get from the room to the front of house. Outside access lighting also poor.

The location is good. The place is clean and there's plenty of seating inside and out. The food is quite expensive but of good quality. Sadly we weren't given the specials menu with the other one (we were given it along with the dessert menu afterwards and saw something on there we wish we'd known was available for the mains). They were also out of one of the sharing platters we wanted. The service was okay. The drinks were ridiculously priced. 2 large G&Ts were £28!! That's even more expensive than London and we were disappointed they didn't have a bar menu so we could see this price gouging - we would have chosen something less extortionate that way.

Friendly staff, however service is erratic and random. Several dishes had sold out even at 7:30pm on a Tuesday evening. Pretty much none of the (over-priced) main courses came with vegetables and incredibly there were no vegetables as sides (other than three types of chips)! Only option was a salad which looked as if it had been purchased from Tesco several days previously. This is a great location and has great potential if only they could improve the menu, the service, the pricing and pretty much the whole experience!

Newly refurbished hotel overlooking the harbour entrance room was spacious and very comfortable a full breakfast was included in the rate . Rooms over two floors reached by a staircase no lift . Staff welcoming friendly and courteous.

Wow most overpriced bar I’ve ever been in. £28 for 2 Gin and Tonics? Cost more than the food. They didn’t give us the specials menu which was much more appealing than the regular menu. Only one vegan option. Hummus a bit dry. Padron peppers lacked seasoning and should have been more blistered. Lovely decor, clean toilets and friendly waiting staff but the prices are a disgrace. We aren’t tourists as we live in Cornwall but even if we were, I would not have visited had I known I was about to be ripped off. The place isn’t all that, now the museum has closed it’s just a place where a tv show was once filmed. Antique shop is worth a visit though.

Great evening dinner on New Years Eve 2024.

A lovely friendly venue but unfortunately will not be visiting as often as prices have gone up. I was charged £15.40 for 2 cappuccinos and 2 small Diet Coke for my grandchildren.

Great place right overlooking the harbour of Charlestown.

Very modern, well decorated, good food and great staff. Had seen social media (I think)!back in the summer saying The Pier House had undergone major restoration so we were keen to try it out with friends. Visited on the Sunday between Xmas and NYD for lunch. Basically, it was exactly what we’d hoped for as a slightly “up market” venue but still very relaxed. You can always judge a restaurant by its toilets (true!) and they were beautifully clean and modern. Serving staff were efficient, polite and above all friendly. Our roast dinners and desserts were spot on. We’ve had some awful disappointments over the years, especially in busier touristy locations but the Pier House wasn’t one of them! Well done to the management and staff.

Exceptional service, decor and food

Still awaiting a response from my complaint re festive lunch. Waste of time pre ordering, it took two emails plus a phone call to pre order, then on the day there was no record of the order and to top it off two items were not available! We were given a prosecco on the house but The Pier House is not what it used to be in the days before St Austell brewery took over.

Great looking place and well done on the refurb. Nice atmosphere. However your prices will restrict many repeat visits. To charge £22 for a burger and fries and pushing £8 for a pint is simply too much now. I saw a large family sit down, look at the menu prices and walk out. They made the comment that if the prices had been reasonable they all would have stayed. Thats lost business.

Fantastic stay; the details in each room were such a great touch. Fabulous breakfast, we also had lunch which was just as delicious, local crab!! Staff were so helpful, esp with a baby in tow which made things much easier for me! Perfect stay

We had lunch there today. The vegetables were cold.spoke with waitress who said they had a gas problem. When we went to pay again explained about cold food.Given 2 scratch cards instesd of 1. What a RIP OFF. Will be contacting St Austell Brewery.

We needed a break to recharge. After a couple of days deciding where to go, we settled on the Pier House. We travelled down to Cornwall from Oxfordshire, stopping off for lunch on the way as you can book in after 15:00. The Pier House hasn't long been reopened after a fire, and we couldn't fault it in any way whatsoever. The restaurant and the outside dining area are extremely relaxing with friendly staff. There are other restaurants nearby for people that may be looking to stay longer than a couple of days. The interior has been designed and built to an excellent standard. We were very lucky to be blessed with fantastic weather, walking around the village, harbour, and the shingle beach in t-shirts. In fact, I wished I had taken my swimming stuff and joined the people swimming in the crystal clear water. It's said you can't please all the people all the time, but this place ticked everything for us, and we would not hesitate to recommend it.

Will see you all on March 3rd 4th and 5th can wait been loads of time and it's unbeatable see you soon Alison 😊

Impromptu visit to the restaurant on a grey Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately on arrival we were told we could eat in the lower front but couldn't sit in the restaurant unless we had booked!! Not sure of the logic or logistics of this. We ordered our food at the bar, which would probably be the only disenerable difference as to where we sat and had a lengthy wait for our food. We both had simple meals of Burger, Fish and Chips which was fine.

Visited for Sunday lunch. Good options available, generous portions, reasonably priced for what’s on offer. Very well done. Restaurant has recently been refurbished and is a pleasant place to be. Highly recommended

We really enjoyed our visit and meal at the Pier House, Although the menu is not extensive, the food was excellent. Personally I would like the option of vegetables as a side. (We were amazed that each table had a tall lit candle, they seemed precarious and you could see the dried flower decoration had been singed already. Just thinking, after the previous fire here) Service was very good.

We went twice during our 1 week stay in Charlestown and had an excellent meal both times. The menu is not huge or imaginative but gives just enough choice. Food was well cooked and flavoursome with the bonus that the fish and chips were gluten free. Staff generally very attentive and helpful. Prices seemed about right for the quality and location.

This pub/restaurant/ hotel has been recently refurbished from top to bottom- very tastefully done and is much much better than it was before the fire. A number of nice cosy areas - most with sea or harbour views. The set lunch was a revelation- good choice, very well cooked, fantastic value for money - and big portions considering it was a set menu. Slightly slow service was our only gripe, but when it arrives, it is very friendly!

We have not eaten here since they have refurbished the Pier House and when I walked in I was amazed with the decor! The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. Our waitress gave us time to order from the menu and did a courtesy check during our meal. The food was delicious and great presentation. There was a lovely calm atmosphere, while we enjoyed a family dinner after a long journey down to Cornwall! Another waitress took an interest with a book my son was reading that evening and shared her enthusiasm with Percy Jackson - thank you! Would highly recommend eating at the Pier House

Comfortable friendly environment by the harbour. The 3 course set lunch menu was good value and very tasty. Portions were just right so we didn’t leave feeling over-full. Friendly waitress added to our visit experience. Have booked to return

Was not overly impressed. Beautiful building. Fantastic scenery. Looks posh inside and out. Food is nice but for £20, no. Burger and fries. Sat near kitchen with staff passing all the while but had to go chase them to get serviced. No cutlery given, had to chase that. October 2024

Went for Sunday lunch and a drink. Food was really good but service was quite slow. Staff good. Beer selection good including St.Austells own Mena Dhu stout.

Food was good, came for a Sunday roast. Service was 10/10! Will definitely be back.

Have eaten twice here since it reopened and am very disappointed. There's very limited vegetarian options (always is in the St Austell brewery chain) and very expensive for what you get. This time I had the cheese and chutney sandwich and there was basically no cheese in it so had to send it back, still not a very generous amount. The bread was dry, crisps were stale and no dressing on the salad. They also got our drinks order wrong. The setting is lovely and the revamp looks great. It's just unfortunate the food is very unsatisfying. I won't be eating here again.

Gorgeously decorated, with a lovely a location and lots of seating areas. Allows dogs as well which is always a plus. Food was delicious and reasonably priced and the team and management were so friendly and accommodating. Really lovely visit!

Great service as usual but now basically catering for the second home owners who have plenty of money! Very limited posh menu and quite pricey compared to other local hospitality venues. Bring back the seafood pancake and some more pub grub classics! On a positive note the restoration looks amazing and so much more roomy!

We’re local and have been going to the Pier House for many years. We were heartbroken when the fire happened and closed the hotel for so long. The refit and layout is absolutely fantastic, the ambience and staff are absolutely fantastic and they offer the highest level of service and I cannot fault any of them. Unfortunately, we felt the meal we had was simply, just ok. The food wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t particularly great either. Which disappointed us. There is a lot of hot competition nearby, and throughout Cornwall, with amazing food, which makes it imperative to be on point with food offerings. I’m sorry to say that it’s unlikely that we will eat there again any time soon, but we will still pop in for pint. Of course, if the food is elevated to their previous standards, we would definitely book a table.

Great setting, fantastic service. We enjoyed a delicious roast lunch. The service was excellent with our meals coming out together. The food was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Big place, dog friendly, great location right on the waterfront. Lots of outdoor seating. I sat inside. The handpulled cask beers were St Austell Brewery's Tribute Cornish Pale Ale, St Austell Brewery's Hicks Special Drought and St Austell Brewery's Proper Job IPA, which is the one I tried. I ordered starter of Goat's Cheese Parfait - honey, pinenuts, sundried tomato, pistachio crumb, caramelised onion chutney, peashoots and crostini. For main I ordered a Greek Feta Salad with a side of buttered new potatoes. The salad was a glorious concoction, a colourfully vibrant medley, and a humongous portion served in a large bowl. Best Greek Salad I've ever had and I have had many originals all over Greece. Being a snorty piglet I had to try the West Country Meringue for pud - strawberries, vanilla cream, Belgian dark chocolate sauce and mint sugar. Everything was exquisitely yum. Food was top notch. Decor and vibe was brilliant. Good staff team but I really do have to give a special shout out to the wonderful and marvelous waiter, Chester, who was professional, polite and totally charming. Easy to remember the name as it's my home city. What a lovely, courteous, über helpful young man. Easy on the eye too!! 😂 Chester is a huge asset to the Pier and I hope your boss reads this. Exemplary service. Bravo to the Pier team. Super highly recommended as food was delicious and beautifully presented. (Can't help but notice that Chester gets lots of mentions and I'm not surprised, lovely kind person.)

Very nice decor, very nice food, only one slight negative, took a long time to come and take our order despite saying that we were ready. It was not particularly busy so a little disappointed.

Wonderful place, excellent food, service is also excellent, all combined with amazing views and tall ships in the harbour. Definitely recommend.

Great beers especially the Proper Job and really nice food

We are locals who often visited before the fire. This was our first time since reopening. When we went on Sunday we thought the decor looked lovely but were dissapointed in the menu it seemed meals had been tweaked to try and modernise them. My partner and I chose the burger with black garlic mayonnaise which we did not enjoy, the burger was spoilt by the black garlic. Then when we looked at the desserts they were quite expensive and some just didn't tempt us.

Had a friend over from Australia and met up with my old schoolfriend and her husband who came down from Teignmouth so wanted to have somewhere memorable to go for dinner. The Pier House's position at the end of Charlestown Harbour was brilliant - we had drinks outside first and then had dinner inside. Three of us had a couple of starters each, one had the haddock and we shared a feta salad between us which was a perfect balance. Great views as the sun went down. Food very good and waitress was excellent as we juggled with our choices! We had a great evening. Thanks

Thoroughly disappointing. I had booked a table for three of us to have lunch. I ordered drinks one of which was wrong. We ordered the pork Sunday roast. My husbands plate was not placed on the table even though it was hot,he was offered his ate to place down on the table,even though staff could very easily have done this. There was no serving spoon for the vegetable dish,and we had to ask,but this was ignored again by the staff. I asked for apple sauce to accompany our lunch it arrived eventually. The chocolate brownie and ice cream was very bland,not nice at all. The only saving grace was the sorbet my husband ordered. Thank goodness the tea and coffee were up to scratch,as this was the only saving grace. After spending over £100, for this family meal,we left extremely disappointed and will sadly,not be returning here or recommending to family or friends.In my opinion,even the bill at half the cost would have still been too much. Not impressed at all.

Lovely place to visit for a meal,great location

Excellent roast Sunday lunch menu with generous portions, teapots full of gravy and classic Yorkshire puddings. There are also excellent alternatives for those wanting traditional pub grub such as fish and chips. With the most beautiful view of Charlestown harbour and a great range of St Austell brewery beers this is a great lunch or dinner destination.

Great pub. Drinks with friends were awesome. Service, drinks and interiors were all to the notch. Special mention must go to the interior design of this place. Awesome location as well. Couldn't fault it. We didn't have food or stay at the hotel. Just drinks.

Had a lovely meal and evening here catching up with old friends. Chester, our waiter, was delightful and so helpful. Felt like a special place for dinner. Would recommend booking in advance as it was busy.

I live local to the Pier House and have visited there many times. Lovely friendly staff and good food The view from the seating area outside is stunning across the harbour and out to sea. Lovely to sit and relax with a cool drink or coffee too

We stayed in the cabin room number 4.beautiful location to our favourite harbour. The food was absolutely amazing. All the staff were excellent and some had some absolute awsome personalities. Will be staying again next year really really lovely place to stay and people to be around

My partner and I stayed here for one night and really enjoyed it. The staff were attentive and extremely friendly, the whole pub/hotel was clean and well decorated, and our room felt luxurious. We had dinner and breakfast in the pub, which were both delicious. We have already recommended the Pier House Hotel to friends and family.

Beautifully situated on the harbour side, idyllic views. Extremely pleasant place to stop for a drink and a bite to eat. Not cheap but no different to anywhere else in the area. Lovely place to relax.

Unpretentious yet absolutely top quality food. I could eat here again and again. Sincerely friendly staff. They made a little mistake with our order, but then without hesitation, made good by not charging us for the late dish. I hope I can return often!

I have been a regular at Charlestown all my life since 1983 and have enjoyed seeing the quayside and the Pier House transform with the times. We had dinner one night which was superb, some of the best eating in the area and our waitress was lovely. Would recommend for a special occaision and the views from outside seating area are fab view of the quayside and the coast.
