Food was disgusting! Sausage full of gristle and the cod was full of bones.

Food very bland and everyone seems to be aloud to use disabled toilet as it is closer for them so disabled people have to queue put a radar key on it

Beautiful restaurant right on the pier with an excellent menu at decent prices. We had the grilled seafood platter which is basically fish and chips with some salmon and prawns. Prawns beautifully seasoned and salmon cooked to perfection. Haddock in light, crispy batter and plenty of it. Hot tasty chips and plenty of tartare sauce. Kids had standard fish and chips which were very decent portions and one had a chicken burger which was also tasty. We also shared some battered halloumi which was a treat. Very filling! Excellent service and a lovely location. The tide came in while we were eating so the shore had completely transformed by the time we left. Well worth a trip.

What I can say people 5 stars. about food can't say same I think on the day when we there I think they been short staff in kitchen chips undercooked burger dry,fish hard and over batter have better expectations about what people say in other reviews

Lovely food slowest service ever tho but worth the wait

I was at this restaurant 6 months ago and it has deteriorated since then. The service was polite but they were confused with the order. They kept bringing us the wrong drinks and kept asking us to repeat our order. The fried food was anemic looking and was a greasy. I felt nautious for the rest of the day. The atmosphere was not restaurant standard...more chip shop and burger van with can of cheap coke. Which is okay if that's what you expect and pay for. Which is my main complaint, which is that it is expensive for what you get. I only ate half of my £15 fish and chips as it was badly cooked. On a side note, the tarter sauce is a strange cocktail ofchemical solution

Absolutely stunning fish and chips and the service is second to none.

The food was okay. We had the classic fish and chips. But they kept forgetting half the sides. Like lemons and tartar sauce. So the service was a bit lacking and slow. The worst part was a hair in my tartar sauce which means I will never visit again and honestly lost my appetite after that. This was not a pleasant experience since I drove an hour to eat this over hyped fish.

It was busy when we went so there was a long queue and a bit of a wait for food but totally worth it. The fish platter was amazing and my friend who had the pie was impressed to find it was a proper pie. Chips were great and prices reasonable. If you're looking for fish and chips in Cleethorpes, this place perfectly hits the spot.

Great fish and chips. Decent price. Big portions. Meals were freshly cooked. Probably a quid more than corner shops but hey you are on the beach. Not sure about the negative recent reviews…our food was excellent! Staff is polite too. Overall a nice experience. Thanks Papa!

Very good service. The food was delicious; However, to my taste, the fish was a little oily but very well seasoned. The gravy was delicious too. Good atmosphere to go with family.

Came today for lunch with my family.. was rather disappointed with the quality of the food, my fish was overcooked dry and not a lot of flavour. My wife’s fish was the opposite, but just greasy. . Food wasn’t piping hot. We had noticed it was busy, but this shouldn’t impact quality or consistency. We also had ordered a pot of tea, and there wasn’t communication from bar staff to complete this, the waitress had to go back and see why this hadn’t been taken over.

Visited a few times and sadly this will be my last visit. Each visit the food and service has declined along with the maintenance of the building especially the toilets. Not a scratch on the Hulls branch of the franchise. Huge shame!

The food is still good but that's the only thing that is, the restaurant has seen better days and needs some tlc and a good clean, the staff arnt much better either, probably not there fault could be down to training they receive, a smile every now and then wouldn't go a miss. It's a shame as it was beautiful around 5 years ago now it seems it has the nobody cares attitude and it reflects around the restaurant.

Visited today and not happy with way how I was served on takeaway side .had number 113 and my friend was 114 ,she got her food before me and even 118 got food while I still waiting .after shout 113 , I have to say 5 times it's my order ,nearly give it to another guy who didn't remember his number .already put gravy on chips for that guy who wanted my order .as autistic I dealing bad with these things ,unfortunately my brain working differently than others and can't deal with gravy all over my fish and hardly on chips. Tried tell her 3 times I don't want gravy on my chips but unfortunately she just ignored me and serving others..just put on counter and run away from me..I understand it was busy but still I'm costumer who deserve some attention and not being ignored..I know how stressful takeaways can be by myself but this is not way how to serve costumer .of course after didn't enjoyed and put nearly all to bin because of that gravy . Thank you and wouldn't see me again .

Been here before and was nice so returned yesterday and the food and service wasn't the best. We waited a very long time for our order to actually be brought to the table for our chips to be under cooked the gravy was like thick jelly and.the steak and ale pie was hard and seemed over cooked. They offered to replace our food but what was the point when it wasn't right the first time so they issued us a refund. Definitely won't be returning, you get better service and food at the take aways on the beach front

Booked a table online at 10am for 12.30pm. - looked like they didn't get any booking when we arrived. Unfortunately we had to keep our coats on in the main hall as no heating . Food came We both ordered the battered platter - a medium fish Chips with sausage and a fishcake Was surprised when it came, the fishcake wasn't the homemade ones, obviously a flat frozen breadcrumb potato cake that was full of salt Sausage Well It was black as the ace of spades - batter had been frazzled. The meat was dark brown Inedible ( picture uploaded) Very over priced. Quality is not great . Place was full of over weight Grimsby folk.

Love visiting here and it never disappoints. As a family of four, we all enjoy dining here. There is something for all of us, the food is delicious and its topped off with a lovely view.

I had a medium haddock and chips with a big side of mushy peas and a Cokes for just under £20. It was absolutely delicious and filled me up perfectly. The sea view is amazing and the interior is clean and comfortable. Well worth a visit!

Great food. Service was good and staff friendly. It's a bit noisy for my taste, though, but it is understandable due to the number of customers.

The restaurant looked busy, so figured it must be ok and went in. Not disappointed, fish, chips and peas were faultless! Service was top draw and the older lady who came to check everything was ok, well she was lovely! Wasn’t too expensive and so glad we did go in!

The steak and ale pie had no flavour whatsoever and the gravy was practically jelly. The mayo was not fresh and tasteless. Water used for the tea needs filtered taste like swimming pool water. Order was incorrect more items than requested.

I bought fish and chips and when I got it the fish there was no fish in the fish chips are ok go there if you want some fish with no fish inside or get something else

I love Cleethorpes and it's great to know money will be spent there soon improving things. Hopefully some will go towards giving the pier a new lease of life as it's looking pretty tired these days.

WHEN WE GOT THERE IT LOOKED LIKE THEY WHERE READY TO SHUT UP . THE CHIPS WERE VERY POOR LOOKED LIKE THEY WERE CLEARING THEM OUT AND THE FISH WAS GREY NOT WHITE LIKE OUR FISH SHOP . MUSHY JUST IN A BLOD AND SAUSAGE DID NOT TASTE GREAT . PREFERRED STEELS FISH RESTAURANT.

After being seated straight away and ordering shortly after we waited for 50 minutes for the food without prior warning of the delay in service to be then served raw sausages. The staff were apologetic but had I not been vigilant my child could have ended up with food poisoning. Please be aware and check your child's food.

Food was cold or burnt waited 1 hour to be seated with 2 people in wheelchairs, over priced never will go again and I advise everyone else never to go

Portions are big , food always steaming hot , queues can be an issue at popular times..

As a vegetarian the menu is obviously restricted, however the chips and curry sauce and mushy peas are great we also love the “ Hull Pattie” .we are so disappointed they have been stopped and are no longer on the menu .these we’re loved , this decision now gives us less reason to go to Papas ,☹️

Great fish and chips apart from the fish I had was burned on the bottom. I've never seen plack batter before. Service was outstanding. Guy with slick back hair was really really good.

Great Fish and Chips at the end of the pier. So nice to see Papas using the pier, and seeing it so busy. The food is fresh, with good sized portions.

This place is rundown overcrowded in restaurant waited ages for a table found it over priced went to the toliet again disgusting wet floors with urine toliets blocked will not be back here

Waited over forty minutes for our food. Chips were good and the fish looked big but it was mostly batter. Coffee and tea were tepid and the tea was totally stewed. Had to wait for cutlery after the food had arrived, and as we were sat outside because we had a dog with us, it went cold while we were waiting. Won't be going again

We visited Cleethorpes today and, although there was a bit of a wait due to how busy it was, Riley – one of the servers in the restaurant – went above and beyond for us. He’s only a young lad, but he’s incredibly hardworking, always smiling, and willing to help in any way he can. I genuinely think he has a bright future with Papa’s. He’s an absolute credit to the team and made our visit even better!"

Before placing my order I asked for long the time was for a pie as the menu said it can take a while, I was told half an hour. We were in a rush so I ordered burger and chips for speed, after half an hour waiting I asked how much longer we would be waiting, we were told 5 minutes. After nearly an hour our food arrived, luke warm and pretty sad looking. No apology was offered, only to be told 120 orders had come in, then 130 them 150 despite the staff openly annoying it was the quietest day so far. Surely over the holidays a company running this long would know when the busy period would be amazing would have staff accordingly, not giving excuses after excuses. I bet the BBC didn't wait this long...

No complaints, good food ,excellent staff, a very busy day so the main dining area gets a bit noisy. Will go again. Large fish and chips is an accurate discription, medium for me next time. Possible to sit outside if the weather is good.

Absolutely delicious fish. And although we ordered small haddock the fish was a really good size. The only criticism was the 45 minute wait to get our meal. It was surprisingly busy for a Monday dinnertime.

Recently had a family day out at Cleethorpes, so decided to try Papa’s. It was a very good experience, we had to wait around 10-15 minutes to be seated, but was definitely worth the wait. It was great quality fish and chips with excellent service by all the staff within, Thank you for the great experience

The staff were great and the food fantastic but the let down was the awful toilets, they were disgusting, only a few that worked and those were really smelly, a couple with broken locks dark and dingy.

Portions are far too big and it's quite expensive for fish and chips, the toilet is down some stairs. Didn't see a disabled toilet had to help a lady to the loo as she couldn't get downstairs

Came here for dinner was served by a young girl called Nikita who was extremely helpful. Another girl called lola who appeared totally useless not sure how she is still working here. Nikita ended up sorting all our meals and any corrections that were needed while it appeared the other member of staff refused to be helping and had made a complete mess of it and left for nikita to sort for us which she did a fantastic job. This lovely young lady was left to run plates out on her own for 20 people with no help. Food wasn't great atmosphere wasn't the best either. I would definitely not recommend this place but 100% pleased with this young ladys efforts to server us

Really disappointed with my meal. The chips were limp, greasy, and had no crisp at all—probably fried at the wrong temperature or left to steam in the packaging. The scampi was even worse: wet and mushy inside, like it hadn’t been cooked properly. It felt like everything had been rushed or not done with care. Definitely not worth the money, and I won’t be rushing back.

First time visiting, we were going to get a takeaway but on seeing the que, i said lets go into the restaurant, but it was a long wait to get into the restaurant, staff did tell us they were busy and we would be shouted through when a table was available from the bar room / waiting area. When we went through, we were shown to our table and given a menu and told after you decide to go up to a counter and order, they would bring meal out when ready, Partner then joined the que at the counter , should of que'd at takeway. Very loud restaurant, but there is space between tables. Meal arrived, we both had the fish and chips, we were disappointed, having heard reviews, I expecting to really enjoy the meal, but it was just ok, my option ,nothing special. I was later informed by friends ,it is a bit hit and miss, guess we got the miss day. It was busy and it is reasonably priced so 🤷

My wife and I called in having been before. Same friendly staff, excellent service, and great food. Would recommend.

Have been here quite a few previous occasions and after this last visit, will NEVER return. Table was booked for 15:30 and had to wait because "we've accepted a lot of walk ins"....well you should have told them you have tables reserved and couldn't accommodate them, otherwise what's the point in making a reservation? Might as well be a free for all. We then waited nearly an hour for two scampi starters to appear (I didn't have anything as you were sold out of what I had chosen) and they were both overcooked and unpleasant. Having waited so long, we had to also request the mains be served during the starters as well. Half my fish was beautiful but the other half was dry and overcooked....I don't even know how that's possible. Chips were very below par and nearly cold but again, didn't have any time to complain as we were going to the theatre. Sadly had to use the toilet during our visit and they were absolutely VILE. Disgusting. Paper all over the floor, multiple blocked cubicles and urine all over the floor as well. Busy or not, that is shocking and there is no excuse. Restaurant was also filthy, food on the floor and staff not paying attention. The only saving grace was our server Lauren, who is a credit to your business. She is the only reason I paid the bill as I didn't want to make things uncomfortable for her, so think yourselves very lucky. Whole experience was horrendous and have gone from regular family visitors to never again.

Not sure how this place got the title of best fish and chips by the BBC. Everything was greasy and underdone. The nuggets looked old and stale. We had two fish and they were both inedible. Ending up sending the food back. Chips weren’t great and the portions were really small too. Honestly one of the worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. Wouldn’t even feed it to the seagulls.

Was asked to wait 15 mins for a table. Could see loads of empty tables but not taken through. 30 mins later I asked about the delay as I’d seen people who came after us going through, the concierge was quite shirty about this. We were then shown to a table that was rammed in between two others. We felt like we were sat at a table with the other families. They had no potato cakes which seems crackers for a chip shop. Then for chips and sausage and fried halloumi we were kept waiting 40 minutes. This is essentially a chip shop with everything prepared in advance. When the plate was served this is what £11 gets you plus VAT on top. Service was terrible… just avoid this place and find somewhere else!!!

Papas you should be ashamed of yourselves 100s if not thousands of pounds you raking in a day and there ain't even a bin outside discussing

Papas was filling up rather quickly at 11.45 ,great fish ,chips and peas and a nice hot cup of tea , delicious .Staff really friendly and the view through the window out to sea was amazing on this sunny day.Would highly recommend a visit.

On a cold February afternoon this was a welcome retreat to have great fish, chips, mushy peas and an old fashioned dandelion and burdock drink. However, what made the whole afternoon was the customer service. Lauren was attentive, gave us time to look at the original design menu and check in every now and again. Everyone was lovely. Highly recommend

We went on my 78 birthday, this is the 3rd time we have done this, we had haddock chips and mushy peas, then a sweet, it was first class, great service. 👍
