The Pier Cleethorpes - Papas in North East Lincolnshire

Went there this evening and Sky TV was there setting for Live at 8:00.

Great use of an historic landmark. Staff are lovely and friendly, food is really good value given both the location and amount served. We visit regularly as it caters very well for our kids, with one being a wheelchair user with special needs it's rare we get to enjoy a normal restaurant experience.

To the lady behind the counter who chopped me some salad and gave me some lemon for my scampi when my sister collected. Thank you so much!!! Beautiful lady

Lovely halal gluten free fish and chips, amazing kind helpful service from all the staff to the greet on the front door with Euen, Lesley & Connor, to the bartender Lola & Ryan to the chefs! Amazing tasty hot fresh food, cod and chips with mushy peas and gravy I got! If I could give 6 stars I would!

Bit disappointed, we come to cleethorpes every year for papas fish chips n curry sauce, and for my dog to run on the beach, but must admit this year the fish snd chips were a let down! We ordered cod but not sure we actually got cod! Also requested a bottle of Chardonnay to he told they haven’t got any! Do ordered pinot! Awful wine

Beautiful ball room restaurant and the service was really friendly - The staff want to do a good job! Had a bit of a cold so cannot speak of the food quality with authority but the curry sauce was very good!

I normally give a 5 star because of the good quality food, byt just a 4 star this time, as the fish i had (the mega haddock) was fine in/along the middle, but dry & hard all around the outside.

Not good this time, been before and it was nice.staff nice though. We really should have complained .My Dads pie was rock hard and the chips were all crispy hard bits mostly.I had a medium fish and my mums pensioner special was bigger.

Staff was very friendly and polite, food was incredible. Great eating venue with am abundance of space.

Visited the restaurant on Sunday 6th October, the food was delicious but the service really made it special. The young staff were so attentive and helpful. Katie in particular was outstanding, she constantly checked to make sure we had everything we needed, nothing was too much trouble, a shining star!

We took advantage of the weather and sat outside in the restaurant rather than having a takeaway. The tables were stacked with previous diners plates etc and no one cleared them. When we ordered the waiter didn’t take any dishes away with her. We waited nearly an hour for our food. Other diners were complaining about the lack of service and the long wait. There was a mix up with food being given to the wrong tables but eventually our food arrived. No cutlery was given and we had to ask for them which is no big deal except at least four other tables had the same issue. Eventually when a female member of staff, Supervisor/Manager came out to hear our concerns she apologised and said they were short staffed. When I asked if they could clear our table to make room for our food they took a couple of cups and sauces and left the remaining dishes. Just not good enough. Plus the meal was disappointing. Usually Papas serves the best fish and chips but not this time. Won’t be returning sadly.

Had a few hours at Cleethorpes and got dinner from here. Very yummy food. Fish n Chips Lovely the staff was very helpful and polite. Definitely recommend thank you 😁👍

Had fish and chips for our Grandads 82nd birthday on the 24/09. The staff was brilliant they allowed us through with our Labrador. The staff very kindly gave our Grandad a rum and coke on the house for his birthday too. He loves the little cake you all gave him him. Thanks very much will visit again. Probably the best fish and chips I have ever had. Plenty of staff for fast service. A very full room which is always a sign of good food.

They didn’t blow us away. Just basic. We did come away with a greasy feeling in our mouths.

Having been a lifelong fan of another fish restaurant that has gone downhill, I was really impressed with the service and the food. It's a busy place so not easy to hear conversation. Will definitely return

Helpful, friendly staff. Accomodated us with more than one vegan option. Highly recommend the cauli and spinach pie which was very tasty. After reading other reviews, I was nervous about using the loo but there was no reason to be. They were clean and comletely acceptable. I imagine during the height of summer with thousands of tourists around, that it might be difficult to keep on top of the loos and this might be the reason for other negative feedback but I was very happy with the toilets. It is pricey, but so is the upkeep of having a massive restaurant on a pier so I think to be expected really. It is as much about the experience and the scenery and views as the food. I look forward to going again very soon :-)

Another great trip to Papas at Cleethorpes. Unfortunately ive had to mark tgem down very slightly on service as we placed our order via a table number yet the staff tried to deliver the wrong food 3 times??? Admittedly, they were very busy but.....also, i had skate wing which is usually 1st class. Again, unfortunately it was over cooked. Couldnt seperate the meet from the bones all the way around the edges.

Visited with my mother in law who uses a mobility scooter. We asked if we could have a specific table so we could sit looking outside and the person who took us to our seat was happy to arrange this I had the medium fish and chips and I didn't manage to finish it as the fish was sooo big. We come from Rotherham and it is absolutely worth the drive to come and have fish and chips at papa's while overlooking the beach.

Great impromptu visit to the seaside for fish and chips

Called in here with our pooch - Fish and chips was great ! However seems strange to not have a dog friendly area inside however have to walk the dogs through the restaurant to get to the outside part where you can sit . Staff was really friendly great service .

Back to form. Excellent haddock in a truly light and crispy batter. A bit of a wait for outside seating, but on a sunny day even out of season that's not a surprise.

We had a lovely meal here. The venue was beautiful. Well run. I had fish and chips and they were good. We were not disappointed. Though we did find better whilst we were away. But don’t let that comment put you off trying this stunning venue.

Reasonable food, excellent service. However, in my opinion, the haddock was not as good as Papas near Hull or Steels in Cleethorpes. The chips were good.

Superb venue. Superb fish and chips. Disgusting brown sauce, asked for HP Sauce and we received a cheap sweet and nasty brown sauce, spoilt the meal, no HP no 5 stars.

I quite unique place for a fish and chip restaurant, a large old fashioned ballroom. The menus look like a newspaper. There is a nice amount of choice. I had traditional fish (haddock) and chips, with a side of curry sauce. The fish with very nicely cooked, crunchy batter. And the chips with nicely cooked too. The curry sauce was some of the best chip shop sauce I've had🤷‍♂️🤣. It wasn't your normal katsu, more spicy and Indian restaurant tasting

Complained about paying 4.49 for chicken nuggets that were straight out of the freezer - was told they don’t take complaints in the restaurant and I do not issue refunds - told they don’t specialise in chicken nuggets! And then was told to email Hr!! Manager refused to give me her name and was incredibly rude! Will never go here again… don’t waste you money plenty of other nicer and cheaper fish and chip restaurants in cleethorpes - appalling.

Got takeaway large haddock chips and curry sauce, was delicious, 5 adults and two children, all loved the food, Audrey who served us was lovely, friendly and couldn't do enough for us, thankyou, highly recommended

Papa's is good value for the money

This restaurant has gone down hill so much in the last year or so, today the food was absolutely awful, with all 3 of us leaving food on our plates. The cod was dried out, the fish pie looked like it had been microwaved to death and the chips were over cooked. Upon complaining after being charged premium prices for mediocre food, I was told no refunds and was offered complementary drinks or desserts. This was after being offered for them to replace the food. Why would you have more food from a restaurant that is no longer selling quality food !

Best fish and chips in UK , absolutely loved it

Absolutely lovely meal, fish chips and a pudding, had to wait a while for the pudding and had to remind someone it was ordered but I can't fault the meal or the staff who were very polite.

As a regular costumer every time I visit Cleethorpes I think it is fantastic but today I though it was appalling waited almost one hour and when the main courses arrived they was no cutlery and had to ask 5 times to finally get some after about 10 minutes with the food sat there going cold having to pick it with our fingers until cutlery finally arrived. The best server who sorted this out was Olly he was fantastic and totally understanding in this situation. Hope service is better next time because I am really considering even going back to a papas restraint after today's disgraceful experience.

The fish was absolutely delicious but that’s where it ends…. Far too long to be seated, far too long to receive the food and the value for money was shocking absolutely shocking! A lovely place to have some fish and chips - extensive menu in a huge ballroom setting with a balcony giving glorious sea views. Recommended

From the reviews we were expecting these to be great, however the food and service was poor.

Sat outside as we had the dog with us. Was extremely windy which I know is out of their control but some table weights on the tables would stop the paper menus and serviettes from flying everywhere. Food itself was good, we had a mixed range across the table, honey battered halloumi was tasty, scampi also, kids had nuggets which they ate (standard), others had a half chicken (took more than half away in a box as it was huge), and the grilled fish platter again absolutely huge, could have fed 3 of us. Chips were nothing amazing but met standard expectations. Overall worth the price. Toilets could do with some TLC as they seemed dated and in need of a good clean. We arrived around 12pm on the Sunday. As we left the queue was 30-40 mins for a table so expect a wait around 1pm.

Papas on the pier in cleethorpes. Lively looking venue, for what I was told is the best chippy in the surrou ding area by country miles. Well, here's a bit of honesty. The venue was really nice, the old ballromm, fantastix and usinfg thenpier outside as part of the agresco approach was nice, but it wasn't a nice weatger day. The service in the bar waiting area was not good on ny visit, and the glasses they served up with were disgusting, filthy stained and still had lipstick on some of the glasses that had gone through the cleaning process. Obviously, they were busy, but this is no excuse. So for me, I loved the area and the venue, though tired in areas, but the battered fish was soggy, and the glasses were shoddy..

Visited today (25.08) Restaurant busy as expected on a bank holiday weekend, so pleased we booked a table. Ordered large haddock and chips, plus the sizzling salmon, mushy peas and curry sauce. Haddock was a good size, crispy light batter and not greasy, tasted good, plus chips really tasty too. Unfortunately the sizzling salmon wasn't a sizzling experience, very little vegetables and skillet full of oily liquid. However, we mentioned this to our server "Bailey" who was fantastic, meal replaced with extra chips and free drinks, so cannot fault the customer service. We will come back again and thanks to Bailey 👍

Fish and chips were okay. Ate inside the cafe area which had a nice dated feel about it. Prompt service - downside was repeatedly asked by staff members if 'everything okay' which was a bit much

We live in Cheshire, but we’re Grimsby/Cleethorpes born and bred. So every time myself, my daughter and granddaughters come over, we make a point of coming to Papa’s - it wouldn’t be the same if we didn’t! Yesterday, on our 2nd visit of the weekend , my youngest granddaughter accidentally spilled hot gravy over what did we dinner her legs. The staff immediately got her ice to put on her legs, and even gave both her and her sister Paps’s t-shirts, as the little one couldn’t wear her dirty clothes! After our meal, which as usual was delicious, the girls were given ice cream with all of the trimmings. Special shout out to waiter Marcus and greeter Sophie, who were so helpful and attentive, and made our experience (despite hot gravy!) a lovely one. Thank you, Papa’s, we will be back very soon!

First time eating in Papa's for fish and chips. It was a great experience!

Had a 30 minute wait for a table, so sat in the bar. Table had a stack of leftover drinks, not cleared while we were there. Wanted two lime and sodas, only enough cordial for one drink, so I made do with orange. Called through to sit in the restaurant at small table...ordered food at the bar, couldn't have the salmon sizzler although could have salmon skewer. Couldn't have grilled haddock, but was available in batter on the seafood platter. Platter consisted of battered haddock (soggy) 2 grilled prawns(nice) and piece of salmon (dry), and chips (meh) with some salad. Skewer wasn't skewered, 2 pieces of OK salmon. The place could do with a deep clean, floor was greasy. All in all, disappointing. Not a patch on the quality or service of Willerby branch. Nice that the pier has been resurrected though.

We decided to have a drive out to the seaside and after a couple of recent recommendations visit Papas for a fish and chips lunch. We didn’t fancy sitting down on the pier floor and benches nearby were taken so we opted to dine in. It was a 20 minute wait in the bar area for our names to be called for a table but I suppose it is the height of summer. Unfortunately it was then another 40 minute wait at the table for 2 portions of fish and chips. Place is looking very tired and needs a deep clean. Glasses were dirty, lots of people were complaining about this. Under staffed. Wouldn’t return.

Visited 16/08/24 Firstly was asked to find our own seats , where as other guests were guided to a table . We had to ask for our table to be wiped down too. Food was speedy and unfortunately as no cutlery had be given even after asking we had to find for ourselves . By this time food had gone cool. It felt as though we were invisible, tables either side of us got attentive staff , but not for us .

Large dining space, but seating outside of the restaurant can get quite windy. Staff friendly enough. Ordered fish and chips and scampi and chips. All sides are extra including peas or bread. No tartare sauce with scampi, chips were a bit pale, could have done with 5 more mins in the fryer. Female toilets either had no lock in the doors or no toilet roll so they really need to keep on top of this. Also dont understand why there isnt any seating on the pier for the takeaway customers. Everyone was sitting on the floor! Food was fine but definately not the best I have had.

We went here for my son's birthday as he had been here on a school trip and wanted to go back (that itself tells you something) it's really good food and service, they even gave my son a free (albeit XL) t-shirt, it made his day

Came to day as a large party all the food was per ordered drinks well . So I don't know why every body else was being served there meals because us we was the 1st in the place . Staff didn't seem to know what they where doing and it took a long time for them to get back to bring us any thing having to keep asking for every thing not a good experience. All the food was lovely except the salmon dishes we order was very dry not good at all

The Google jury, after 7,000 odd reviews, have this place about right. My partner and I both had fish, chips and curry. The chips were good and plentiful. The curry was excellent. The fish was lacking in volume. The staff were excellent, we spoke to 3 or 4 and they were very pleasant. The wait was a bit longer than expected at around 20 minutes. The price was similar to other places when food quantity is factored in. Would I return? Maybe, maybe not...

Delicious fish and chips on a good portion size, great value kids menu and lovely staff. Waiting time for a table was about 15 minutes and all good is cooked fresh to order so wait for food was about 25 minutes. Would advise booking in advance - we didn't!

Well we picked a very busy time unfortunately and had a 45 mins wait time for our meals. The fish and chips were lovely. My granddaughter wanted chicken nuggets, the menu said 9 nuggets but there was only 8 on the plate, not complaining about that 8 would have been plenty! Unfortunately she didn't enjoy them. The waitress asked her why she just said she didn't like them BUT the chips were awesome 👏. All in all acceptable

Update: still fab, such a busy day today and your staff are such a credit to you. Love the electronic ordering, especially for GF. Would recommend you get a order ready or collect screen inside and just outside for busy days like today, think that would help your staff and encourage more sales as people were put off waiting in the heat I think. Tend to return here on our trips to Cleethorpes, and went again today as we had someone that's gluten free with us, which Papas caters for. No hassle just ordered GF at the till. Brilliant standard of food, at a competitive price. Lovely! Will come again.

I waited more than 1 hour to get the food. Honestly is not worth the time.
