Absolutely delicious fish. And although we ordered small haddock the fish was a really good size. The only criticism was the 45 minute wait to get our meal. It was surprisingly busy for a Monday dinnertime.

Recently had a family day out at Cleethorpes, so decided to try Papa’s. It was a very good experience, we had to wait around 10-15 minutes to be seated, but was definitely worth the wait. It was great quality fish and chips with excellent service by all the staff within, Thank you for the great experience

The staff were great and the food fantastic but the let down was the awful toilets, they were disgusting, only a few that worked and those were really smelly, a couple with broken locks dark and dingy.

Portions are far too big and it's quite expensive for fish and chips, the toilet is down some stairs. Didn't see a disabled toilet had to help a lady to the loo as she couldn't get downstairs

Really disappointed with my meal. The chips were limp, greasy, and had no crisp at all—probably fried at the wrong temperature or left to steam in the packaging. The scampi was even worse: wet and mushy inside, like it hadn’t been cooked properly. It felt like everything had been rushed or not done with care. Definitely not worth the money, and I won’t be rushing back.

Came here for dinner was served by a young girl called Nikita who was extremely helpful. Another girl called lola who appeared totally useless not sure how she is still working here. Nikita ended up sorting all our meals and any corrections that were needed while it appeared the other member of staff refused to be helping and had made a complete mess of it and left for nikita to sort for us which she did a fantastic job. This lovely young lady was left to run plates out on her own for 20 people with no help. Food wasn't great atmosphere wasn't the best either. I would definitely not recommend this place but 100% pleased with this young ladys efforts to server us

Loved the light and crisp batter and a great view from the restaurant on the pier.

First time visiting, we were going to get a takeaway but on seeing the que, i said lets go into the restaurant, but it was a long wait to get into the restaurant, staff did tell us they were busy and we would be shouted through when a table was available from the bar room / waiting area. When we went through, we were shown to our table and given a menu and told after you decide to go up to a counter and order, they would bring meal out when ready, Partner then joined the que at the counter , should of que'd at takeway. Very loud restaurant, but there is space between tables. Meal arrived, we both had the fish and chips, we were disappointed, having heard reviews, I expecting to really enjoy the meal, but it was just ok, my option ,nothing special. I was later informed by friends ,it is a bit hit and miss, guess we got the miss day. It was busy and it is reasonably priced so 🤷

Have been here quite a few previous occasions and after this last visit, will NEVER return. Table was booked for 15:30 and had to wait because "we've accepted a lot of walk ins"....well you should have told them you have tables reserved and couldn't accommodate them, otherwise what's the point in making a reservation? Might as well be a free for all. We then waited nearly an hour for two scampi starters to appear (I didn't have anything as you were sold out of what I had chosen) and they were both overcooked and unpleasant. Having waited so long, we had to also request the mains be served during the starters as well. Half my fish was beautiful but the other half was dry and overcooked....I don't even know how that's possible. Chips were very below par and nearly cold but again, didn't have any time to complain as we were going to the theatre. Sadly had to use the toilet during our visit and they were absolutely VILE. Disgusting. Paper all over the floor, multiple blocked cubicles and urine all over the floor as well. Busy or not, that is shocking and there is no excuse. Restaurant was also filthy, food on the floor and staff not paying attention. The only saving grace was our server Lauren, who is a credit to your business. She is the only reason I paid the bill as I didn't want to make things uncomfortable for her, so think yourselves very lucky. Whole experience was horrendous and have gone from regular family visitors to never again.

Not sure how this place got the title of best fish and chips by the BBC. Everything was greasy and underdone. The nuggets looked old and stale. We had two fish and they were both inedible. Ending up sending the food back. Chips weren’t great and the portions were really small too. Honestly one of the worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. Wouldn’t even feed it to the seagulls.

Papas you should be ashamed of yourselves 100s if not thousands of pounds you raking in a day and there ain't even a bin outside discussing

Was asked to wait 15 mins for a table. Could see loads of empty tables but not taken through. 30 mins later I asked about the delay as I’d seen people who came after us going through, the concierge was quite shirty about this. We were then shown to a table that was rammed in between two others. We felt like we were sat at a table with the other families. They had no potato cakes which seems crackers for a chip shop. Then for chips and sausage and fried halloumi we were kept waiting 40 minutes. This is essentially a chip shop with everything prepared in advance. When the plate was served this is what £11 gets you plus VAT on top. Service was terrible… just avoid this place and find somewhere else!!!

Papas was filling up rather quickly at 11.45 ,great fish ,chips and peas and a nice hot cup of tea , delicious .Staff really friendly and the view through the window out to sea was amazing on this sunny day.Would highly recommend a visit.

On a cold February afternoon this was a welcome retreat to have great fish, chips, mushy peas and an old fashioned dandelion and burdock drink. However, what made the whole afternoon was the customer service. Lauren was attentive, gave us time to look at the original design menu and check in every now and again. Everyone was lovely. Highly recommend

Been to Papas before and enjoyed but yesterday we were very disappointed with the meal. Waited for 45 minutes to be served fish and chips that were barely warm. Staff were very friendly and seemed genuinely concerned that we had not enjoyed our meal. Hopefully this is not something that happens regularly but it has put us off visiting again.

All good. Whenever we are in the area we meet our friends for fish and chips, especially because they do gluten free all day every day. Delicious 😋

Absolutely disgusting. The food was cold, my partner couldn’t eat his food, was asked if he wanted a replacement meal but the green chips had put him off. They wouldn’t take this item off the bill as “they offered a replacement” Sauces weren’t brought out with our meal, when we asked they printed the receipt and brought it to our table to prove we hadn’t ordered, which we had. By the time they did come the meals that were eaten were nearly finished. We was offered discount for the next time we visited but there will not be a next time. It was absolutely freezing inside. Kids had to keep their big coats on whilst they ate. Then as we left there was obvious gossip amongst staff about our complaint. Really disappointed

Table of 6. Took over an hours wait and lots of other tables around complaining about the wait time. All ordered medium haddock’s. I noticed several tables of 4 around us got food before we did, despite ordering 5-10 minutes after us. Food was very average and mushy peas were cold and soggy batter. Lots of green chips. No one checked back to see if food was okay. At end of service I spoke with the Manager who was apologetic and was not able to discount or take any Items off the bill as the system ‘does not allow them to do it?’ Instead offered a ‘return’ voucher. We’re not local so not much help.

Great location which should have been a great experience, unfortunately it was far from it. The food was mediocre…quality piece of cod unfortunately ruined by very greasy batter which once removed the fish was nice. Chips were dry and tasteless. The biggest issue was the venue itself visited on 2nd February, it was cold outside but felt even colder inside the restaurant, there was no heating on it was freezing, sat there eating our food with coats and woolly hats on. There was no reprieve from the cold in the washrooms either, no hot running water and a hand dryer which didn’t work. Certainly would not go again or recommend. Should have bought elsewhere and eaten outside it would have been warmer.

3 of us went here for dinner. 1 x senior meal, 1 medium fish and 1 seafood platter, curry sauce, peas, 2 alcoholic drinks and a pot of tea. £49 All really good, and portions fantastic. Service was very good by all. Only issue was temperature of the place, it was not very comfortable, as it was cold. But, this did not spoil the great food.

What a wonderful discovery, totally fulfills the hype! Smashing staff well trained in customer service (gratitude to lovely Lauren today, and the two chaps who brought us our drinks and food). Great to eat with a sea view from the pier. Lovely ballroom venue. And the food? BEST fish and chips ever! Our fish (and the deliciously light batter) were utterly perfect. Heartily recommended!

Called at papas on the pier at cleethorpes after a motorbike ride over from Doncaster,,,, well worth it, after being served by a very nice, polite & chatty young lady I enjoyed the papas classic for £9.50, fish chips peas, delicious, could not finish it & the fish was too big to fit in the box👌👌👌👌

Been raving about this place for years how big the fish is and the fact I struggled to finish it .went there last week had the big daddy and wasn't impressed at all ,it was half the size as the matching uniforms but not anymore disappointed..oh and that cost £50

Horrible! Been 4 or 5 times over the last few years and always loved it, but we won’t be back! Went in and it was freezing! But was lucky to have a portable fan heater on one of the seats on our table. Other people in the room were eating their dinner in their coats! The fish was lovely but the chips were cold and hard, like they had been sat there for ages. As were the mushy peas. The assistant didn’t come to the table even though we had stopped eating for atleast 5 mins. So we went to the paying station, having left 90% of our chips and peas. She asked if it was ok, we told her it wasn’t good enough, and she said she would tell the kitchen and said is it cash or card. She wasn’t remotely bothered that our meal was rubbish. Best fish and chips in Britain 😂😂😂😂 lol

Normally I love going to paps's, The service is normally good and the food is also good, it's my go to place for fish and chips. However on my last visit on the 11th of January I was very disappointed. Both drinks and food orders took a very long time to arrive and the disappointment didn't stop there, the place was freezing cold when our drinks eventually arrived they tasted as though the cups were too large for the machine and were topped up with hot water. When the food arrived the buns were hard on one side as though they had been left to one side by the fryer to defrost. It was so cold that by the time I had eaten half my meal I couldn't eat any more as it was too cold to eat. Under normal circumstances I would have walked out and gone elsewhere but I was looking forward all week to a papa's fish and chips. I will have to wait until summer to enjoy the fish and chips I know and love.

Without a doubt one of the worst places I’ve been to eat in my life. The place is absolutely freezing, people sat at tables in their coats, all the tables and chairs are worn and scruffy, everything looks battered and ready for replacement. The toilets were an absolute mess, doors missing from the cubicles, urine and toilet paper everywhere, hand dryer not working, disgusting. The place wasn’t even busy but the food took 45 minutes, for children’s chips and nuggets, we asked for it to be boxed because my daughter was that cold that she asked if we could go home, I asked for tomato sauce to take with us, to be told they had none? But had mayonnaise. This place needs looking at because if the owners don’t sort the place out, I’ll be surprised if it lasts the year in this town. Awful.

Great food, only fish & chips but cooked perfectly. The batter on the fish was delicious, and the fish itself was so fresh. Curry sauce was excellent, and the mushy peas were mushy. Will definitely be back.

Totally overrated. Chips were dry and mostly the ends of the potato. The ones that were thick were tasteless. Not sure what they’re trying to do with the halloumi. But just no. Honey doesn’t belong with gravy and chips. Jill patties was mostly sage and again, tasteless. Made the wrong choice coming here. Start of Jan and there wasn’t any heating on. It’s freezing inside And don’t get me started with the ‘bread’

Cracking chippy and nice location fish could have done with cooking fully but the main issue was burnt mushy peas not sure how but they managed it service was a bit slow but it was mega busy but come on burnt peas

What can I say, couple of southerners who thought we had the best fish and chips, just got shown how to do it properly, great food, great service and a great venue, just goes to show that simple food done amazingly is unbelievable, would 100% recommend to anyone.

Popped in for lunch on a Saturday, just before midday and luckily just before it got very very busy. Most arrivals thereafter had bookings. Service was excellent. Food also.

Best fish and chips in the UK, we had the big Papa’s haddock to share and it was absolutely delicious and good value for money (£18.99). You can share it between 3-4 people. We also had mushy peas and curry sauce which were all amazing. Very friendly service too. The only disappointment was the fried calamari we had. Portion was small and it was overcooked (£5.99).

A very large fish and chip shop; the portions are quite large, and the beautiful service staff I encountered were very kind and beautiful... which is a bonus.

Maybe not great because we didn't have the classic fish and chips but we didn't enjoy our visit. It was cold and the service was a bit slow.

We have had many fish and chip meals at nearly all Papa venues. We have always rated them as good value and well cooked. However today was a Huge let down. We were meeting friends for lunch one who is not too mobile. The waitress apologised for the room temperature . Having come inside from fairly bitter winds it did not feel too bad at first. However as time progressed it failed to warm up. Other diners were sat in overcoat. Meal was served on cold plates which meant the food rapidly lost its heat. We would have expected warm drinks to be offered as recompense. No issues with the fish as this was well cooked but the chips were soon cold. Would advise not going to the Cleethorpes venue until this issue over heating is addressed. Our friends who are both in their 70s were visibly shaking.

Fantastic experience at Papas fish and chips. Chris greeted us/looked after us. He was very polite, friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious and had good portions. Everything was very clean. I was very grateful for the use of the portable heater. On this cold and wet day.

The location is amazing and where we sat in the restaurant was brilliant. It was moderately busy but we had to go and get a server to order food and getting dessert was difficult to say the least I ordered the fish cake and it was a thin disc similar to a birds eye one, not what you'd expect if you searched online. Not bad in all, won't rush back

We had a dog and they let us sit outside. Been here a few times over the years on trips here. Not been for 5 years. Still a great location, nice they are using an old building. The menu choice seems to have improved. We all found something we liked. Prices reflect the venue. The pensioner special was good value though.

Visited yesterday 12/11/24 for takeaway. Audra/Audrey (apologies I misheard your name) served us and was warm, friendly and so helpful! I had never heard of a Hull Pattie before, Audra offered me one to try and now I wondering why we have never heard of these down south!!!!! The food was perfectly cooked and the portion size was more than value for money! Next time I am back up this way, this will be my first stop!

We have come down to kenwick woods for the weekend and we went to Cleethorpes for a walk on the beach and arcades and fancied fish and chips so we went on the pier and went to papas we went in the restaurant and my had a small fish and chips and curry I had medium chips and fish and mushy peas big portions value for money . If you go to Cleethorpes papas fish and chips is the place to go the beach is nice and clean . plenty of arcades for all ages

It's a beautiful building . Prices are at the higher end for fish & chips & sides are then extra . The fish is usually very good but the chips tend to be just shaggy little bits & not always the hottest .

Highly recommend visiting this restaurant, the food was great , the service was excellent, the staff are friendly and approachable and for such a large establishment,the atmosphere is good too. We were in a party of 17 and they had no trouble at all getting us all seated at the same table. Another place on our " will visit again " list

Great use of an historic landmark. Staff are lovely and friendly, food is really good value given both the location and amount served. We visit regularly as it caters very well for our kids, with one being a wheelchair user with special needs it's rare we get to enjoy a normal restaurant experience.

Lovely halal gluten free fish and chips, amazing kind helpful service from all the staff to the greet on the front door with Euen, Lesley & Connor, to the bartender Lola & Ryan to the chefs! Amazing tasty hot fresh food, cod and chips with mushy peas and gravy I got! If I could give 6 stars I would!
