Complained about paying 4.49 for chicken nuggets that were straight out of the freezer - was told they don’t take complaints in the restaurant and I do not issue refunds - told they don’t specialise in chicken nuggets! And then was told to email Hr!! Manager refused to give me her name and was incredibly rude! Will never go here again… don’t waste you money plenty of other nicer and cheaper fish and chip restaurants in cleethorpes - appalling.

Got takeaway large haddock chips and curry sauce, was delicious, 5 adults and two children, all loved the food, Audrey who served us was lovely, friendly and couldn't do enough for us, thankyou, highly recommended

Absolutely lovely meal, fish chips and a pudding, had to wait a while for the pudding and had to remind someone it was ordered but I can't fault the meal or the staff who were very polite.

Best fish and chips in UK , absolutely loved it

This restaurant has gone down hill so much in the last year or so, today the food was absolutely awful, with all 3 of us leaving food on our plates. The cod was dried out, the fish pie looked like it had been microwaved to death and the chips were over cooked. Upon complaining after being charged premium prices for mediocre food, I was told no refunds and was offered complementary drinks or desserts. This was after being offered for them to replace the food. Why would you have more food from a restaurant that is no longer selling quality food !

Papa's is good value for the money

As a regular costumer every time I visit Cleethorpes I think it is fantastic but today I though it was appalling waited almost one hour and when the main courses arrived they was no cutlery and had to ask 5 times to finally get some after about 10 minutes with the food sat there going cold having to pick it with our fingers until cutlery finally arrived. The best server who sorted this out was Olly he was fantastic and totally understanding in this situation. Hope service is better next time because I am really considering even going back to a papas restraint after today's disgraceful experience.

Sat outside as we had the dog with us. Was extremely windy which I know is out of their control but some table weights on the tables would stop the paper menus and serviettes from flying everywhere. Food itself was good, we had a mixed range across the table, honey battered halloumi was tasty, scampi also, kids had nuggets which they ate (standard), others had a half chicken (took more than half away in a box as it was huge), and the grilled fish platter again absolutely huge, could have fed 3 of us. Chips were nothing amazing but met standard expectations. Overall worth the price. Toilets could do with some TLC as they seemed dated and in need of a good clean. We arrived around 12pm on the Sunday. As we left the queue was 30-40 mins for a table so expect a wait around 1pm.

The fish was absolutely delicious but that’s where it ends…. Far too long to be seated, far too long to receive the food and the value for money was shocking absolutely shocking! A lovely place to have some fish and chips - extensive menu in a huge ballroom setting with a balcony giving glorious sea views. Recommended

From the reviews we were expecting these to be great, however the food and service was poor.

We live in Cheshire, but we’re Grimsby/Cleethorpes born and bred. So every time myself, my daughter and granddaughters come over, we make a point of coming to Papa’s - it wouldn’t be the same if we didn’t! Yesterday, on our 2nd visit of the weekend , my youngest granddaughter accidentally spilled hot gravy over what did we dinner her legs. The staff immediately got her ice to put on her legs, and even gave both her and her sister Paps’s t-shirts, as the little one couldn’t wear her dirty clothes! After our meal, which as usual was delicious, the girls were given ice cream with all of the trimmings. Special shout out to waiter Marcus and greeter Sophie, who were so helpful and attentive, and made our experience (despite hot gravy!) a lovely one. Thank you, Papa’s, we will be back very soon!

Fish and chips were okay. Ate inside the cafe area which had a nice dated feel about it. Prompt service - downside was repeatedly asked by staff members if 'everything okay' which was a bit much

Visited today (25.08) Restaurant busy as expected on a bank holiday weekend, so pleased we booked a table. Ordered large haddock and chips, plus the sizzling salmon, mushy peas and curry sauce. Haddock was a good size, crispy light batter and not greasy, tasted good, plus chips really tasty too. Unfortunately the sizzling salmon wasn't a sizzling experience, very little vegetables and skillet full of oily liquid. However, we mentioned this to our server "Bailey" who was fantastic, meal replaced with extra chips and free drinks, so cannot fault the customer service. We will come back again and thanks to Bailey 👍

Papas on the pier in cleethorpes. Lively looking venue, for what I was told is the best chippy in the surrou ding area by country miles. Well, here's a bit of honesty. The venue was really nice, the old ballromm, fantastix and usinfg thenpier outside as part of the agresco approach was nice, but it wasn't a nice weatger day. The service in the bar waiting area was not good on ny visit, and the glasses they served up with were disgusting, filthy stained and still had lipstick on some of the glasses that had gone through the cleaning process. Obviously, they were busy, but this is no excuse. So for me, I loved the area and the venue, though tired in areas, but the battered fish was soggy, and the glasses were shoddy..

Food was great, portions were huge! Worth every penny!

First time eating in Papa's for fish and chips. It was a great experience!

Had a 30 minute wait for a table, so sat in the bar. Table had a stack of leftover drinks, not cleared while we were there. Wanted two lime and sodas, only enough cordial for one drink, so I made do with orange. Called through to sit in the restaurant at small table...ordered food at the bar, couldn't have the salmon sizzler although could have salmon skewer. Couldn't have grilled haddock, but was available in batter on the seafood platter. Platter consisted of battered haddock (soggy) 2 grilled prawns(nice) and piece of salmon (dry), and chips (meh) with some salad. Skewer wasn't skewered, 2 pieces of OK salmon. The place could do with a deep clean, floor was greasy. All in all, disappointing. Not a patch on the quality or service of Willerby branch. Nice that the pier has been resurrected though.

We decided to have a drive out to the seaside and after a couple of recent recommendations visit Papas for a fish and chips lunch. We didn’t fancy sitting down on the pier floor and benches nearby were taken so we opted to dine in. It was a 20 minute wait in the bar area for our names to be called for a table but I suppose it is the height of summer. Unfortunately it was then another 40 minute wait at the table for 2 portions of fish and chips. Place is looking very tired and needs a deep clean. Glasses were dirty, lots of people were complaining about this. Under staffed. Wouldn’t return.

Visited 16/08/24 Firstly was asked to find our own seats , where as other guests were guided to a table . We had to ask for our table to be wiped down too. Food was speedy and unfortunately as no cutlery had be given even after asking we had to find for ourselves . By this time food had gone cool. It felt as though we were invisible, tables either side of us got attentive staff , but not for us .

Large dining space, but seating outside of the restaurant can get quite windy. Staff friendly enough. Ordered fish and chips and scampi and chips. All sides are extra including peas or bread. No tartare sauce with scampi, chips were a bit pale, could have done with 5 more mins in the fryer. Female toilets either had no lock in the doors or no toilet roll so they really need to keep on top of this. Also dont understand why there isnt any seating on the pier for the takeaway customers. Everyone was sitting on the floor! Food was fine but definately not the best I have had.

We went here for my son's birthday as he had been here on a school trip and wanted to go back (that itself tells you something) it's really good food and service, they even gave my son a free (albeit XL) t-shirt, it made his day

The Google jury, after 7,000 odd reviews, have this place about right. My partner and I both had fish, chips and curry. The chips were good and plentiful. The curry was excellent. The fish was lacking in volume. The staff were excellent, we spoke to 3 or 4 and they were very pleasant. The wait was a bit longer than expected at around 20 minutes. The price was similar to other places when food quantity is factored in. Would I return? Maybe, maybe not...

Came to day as a large party all the food was per ordered drinks well . So I don't know why every body else was being served there meals because us we was the 1st in the place . Staff didn't seem to know what they where doing and it took a long time for them to get back to bring us any thing having to keep asking for every thing not a good experience. All the food was lovely except the salmon dishes we order was very dry not good at all

Good atmosphere, okay service, food nice but slightly greasey and skimpy on the chips.

Delicious fish and chips on a good portion size, great value kids menu and lovely staff. Waiting time for a table was about 15 minutes and all good is cooked fresh to order so wait for food was about 25 minutes. Would advise booking in advance - we didn't!

Well we picked a very busy time unfortunately and had a 45 mins wait time for our meals. The fish and chips were lovely. My granddaughter wanted chicken nuggets, the menu said 9 nuggets but there was only 8 on the plate, not complaining about that 8 would have been plenty! Unfortunately she didn't enjoy them. The waitress asked her why she just said she didn't like them BUT the chips were awesome 👏. All in all acceptable

We arrived at 4.05pm, waited 5 minutes at the restaurant to not be acknowledged we existed. Despite 3 of the staff walking by us. I should've trusted my gut. We went to their takeaway and ordered, it was ready a 4.50pm. The food was average.

I waited more than 1 hour to get the food. Honestly is not worth the time.

Update: still fab, such a busy day today and your staff are such a credit to you. Love the electronic ordering, especially for GF. Would recommend you get a order ready or collect screen inside and just outside for busy days like today, think that would help your staff and encourage more sales as people were put off waiting in the heat I think. Tend to return here on our trips to Cleethorpes, and went again today as we had someone that's gluten free with us, which Papas caters for. No hassle just ordered GF at the till. Brilliant standard of food, at a competitive price. Lovely! Will come again.

Came here for the first time with my mum and had an absolutely brilliant time here. Was really surprised with how big the portion sizes were, I went with the plaice and chips as I wanted to try something new and was blown away at a piece of fish bigger than my hand turning up on the plate while my mum had the scampi and chips which again was an extremely generous size. The food was absolutely amazing and delicious, you could tell it was nice and fresh which is always a plus. The place was really well kept and clean and the staff were really friendly and attentive, got talking with one of the staff members as we finished our meal and he was such a delight to talk to. Will 100% be back in the future

Best fish and chips I’ve ever had 10/10 massive sizes Strongly recommend

Asked for lightly battered and fish looked like it had been sunbathing for weeks really brown. Ate it so the table wasn't waiting for me as we were heading somewhere else after meal. Unfortunately this is second time I've been disappointed this year so won't be rushing to return. Told public toilets out of action and to use ones at front but wasn't given a code so had to go looking for staff member, the reaction was oh yeah I didn't think about that :(

Even though I arrived slightly after 9:00 p.m. they still served me. They gave me exactly what I wanted for the right money. Leanne was especially helpful

Went during rush hour and it was very busy. They didn't call or name or we didn't hear it so it took an age to get seated. Food is very nice but a bit pricey for fish and chips, the staff were very friendly.

The cod was delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The place itself doesn't feel as special as it used to. It's in the old ballroom and staff used to be dressed to reflect this however they now just wear t-shirt and jeans and at least one was in joggers.

A must for any fish and chip lover. I'm a big eater but I am currently struggling to breath after the large cod and chips. It's not cheap but the location, food and service is epic

Not bad, but certainly not the best first and chips I've ever had, find it hard to believe they've won awards. Chips exactly as you would expect but fish was a bit bland and the batter didn't have much colour to it. Price was reasonable for a dine in place although I wouldn't want it to cost much more £36 for two (medium fish and chips with curry sauce, large fish and chips with peas and 2 pepsi). Staff were very friendly and there was lots of space. Could do with a bit of renovating, it looks like they've literally just put chairs and tables in a theatre and would benefit from a more on brand decorating but it's still a nice building.

Shocking. I am actually still really disappointed about this experience and how it stole 2 hours from my life and still got no dinner.. Absolute disorganised chaos. Over thirty minutes to get drinks after ordering. After hour to hour and half I left and asked for full refund. Only to be told sorry yes we will process your refund. No real apology it just felt empty. Family of 6 with hungry kids.. This is such a shame when it’s effectively a chip shop with tables.

Wow! Great fish and chips, great staff, great place! Huge area and still loads of tables free on a busy Friday in Cleethorpes. We ordered the small fish and they were huge.

The staff were very nice and easy to cooperate with, on top of that the food was brilliant. I loved the look of the place and the interior, as well as the outside too and I got my food very fast and the price was very reasonable for what it is. Would definitely eat here again.

Disappointing as you can’t have a small cod, only small fish available is haddock. Batter was soggy and bland and the cod didn’t appear to be fresh. I would safely say frozen which is disappointing considering the location. Smeary windows!! They look as though they were cleaned with a dirty cloth. Lacks atmosphere. The staff ate pleasant. Food lets it down.

Over cook rubbish won't be going again

No forks, no ketchup, no tartar. Chips soggy. Battered sausages are different sizes. Curry sauce like brown tar. RIP OFF. Customer service zero! Awful and embarrassing taking friends here. Also editing review as forgot to mention there was a label on a chip that had been fried! Do have picture evidence. Disgusting!

The food in papas is very nice and good. It has been that good and that nice we wanted to order to pick up. So we looked on the website to orded to be told they don't do cheesy chips.... Even though it's on the website. we have left a complex with all sorts of food offers and then drive past alsort of food chains to get here to have the service is a bit disheartening. We passed all them options to go to papas to get that service. The explanation was I know it says on there but we don't do it. That was it no care or nothing.

Called into Papas a few day's ago for tea . Really nice warm day so opted to eat outside with view of the Cleethorpes coast. The medium haddock chips and mushy peas were excellent only negative from the visit been the Coors lager is like coloured water. Really enjoyed our visit with special thanks to our friendly server Stella .

A canteen at the end of a pier. Visited on a beautiful day. Requested an outdoor table but none were available. Even though some were unoccupied. So had to sit inside. The staff were exceptional. Ordering is old fashioned, I and my friend are disabled we had to negotiate all the tables and prams etc to go to the bar to order. Surely with the quality and number of staff table orders could be implemented? The food, although award winning, on our visit was unfortunately very average. Limp anaemic chips, greasy tasteless batter and very average fish. Quantities were good but none of us finished because it was so poor. So sorry to be so negative. We had such high expectations.........

Busy. No toilets for the public

Went here the other day sat outside beautiful view, fast service. I cannot thank the staff enough for catering for my needs.. as I’m unable to chew due to a broken jaw they made me a batch of mash potatoes even tho not on the menu just so I could enjoy a meal with my family. They went above and beyond plus the food was absolutely fantastic, being nervous to order and ask for special requirements they really helped and put me ease. Thank you and definitely will be returning as we live two mins away! :)

Come here on regular basis whenever with a group of family members..kids love it and the whole presence of Papas is iconic to cleethorpes. Ordered my usual medium haddock and chips in the restaurant. Fish cooked to perfection and chips nice and soft. My kids love the fish from papas and finished their plate..my wife enjoyed the haloumi and chips. Service is always brilliant from the waiters and waitress.

My dad and I had a lovely lunchtime meal and the service was commendable. Would definitely recommend the plaice!

On a Friday afternoon on summer holidays, it was not full or rushed. People very friendly and served very quick The food. WOW, batter light, chips great, peas mushy. Lovely room to have a chippy in, and could not fault it. We will be back My partner was gutted she couldn't finish it. But I did.

1st time at Papas with a seniors bus trip. Was told I couldn't order Cod, I'd have to have Haddock because it was from the seniors menu. (I hate haddock). When it came it was dried up, cold and the chips and mushy peas were the same. There was no tartar sauce to conceal the taste so I left most of it. The dessert was also tasteless. Like something we had at school. Took 2hrs from start to finish. My first and last experience at Papas.

We visited yesterday lunchtime around 1pm, it was very busy due to being a hot day. We thought we would ask how long a table would be and we were told 30 minutes which was fair enough and we could wait in the bar. We didn't see the bar when reserving a table but if we did we wouldn't have bothered. It was rammed with fed up people stood around. The bar had only 1 server. We queued for a drink and 30 minutes passed, no sign on a table. A woman enquired with staff saying she was told it would be 25 minutes and she had waited 40 minutes. The staff member argued back in front of everyone and snapped saying she said it would be 45 minutes. I was told 30 minutes so I'm guessing the lady was right! Everyone was fed up. After 55 minutes we were called through. There was at least 7 tables unoccupied. We were told the online ordering wasn't working and we had to queue again to order. Yet again there was a long queue with only 1 person on the till. By this point we were completely fed up. Food arrived and our table didn't have napkins or knifes and forks so asked for them and he came back with just knives and forks. The food was really tasty but the service is absolutely abysmal and I would never return. They had enough staff to cover the basics, there was no common sense at all. If it's a long wait - be honest. Have more than 1 staff on a till.

Very busy but we had pre- ordered as we were on a day coach trip so didn't have to wait too long for food. Server's were very helpful and friendly.

Great food, take away service used only shame was about the lack of walk in for restaurant service. Understandable due to it's fabulous food.

The Pier Cleethorpes - Papas serves fish and fries, but my experience was disappointing. The wait time for my order was excessively long, with no seating available for takeaway customers. The fries were not crispy and quite expensive for the quality. Overall, the service and food did not meet expectations. Would not recommend unless you have a lot of patience and are okay with mediocre fries.

We had been waiting to visit the world's largest fish and chip restaurant for nearly a year & we were definitely NOT disappointed ! After a short wait (they were VERY busy) we were shown to our table in an amazing restaurant with the stage from the pier's show days still there ! The food itself was FANTASTIC, a great selection & the portion sizes are BIG (a medium haddock could easily be sold as a large !) After a minor mix up with one of our orders (our fault) it was VERY quickly & efficiently sorted by one of the managers (Courtney) & server ( Lesley) we can't praise these 2 enough for their customer service & efficiency. Definitely worth a visit & we will DEFINITELY be visiting again !

Visiting from Montreal and had one of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. The service was amazing and the price was very reasonable. As a matter of fact, I’ve just finished my dinner and couldn’t wait to leave them a review. As an added bonus, judging from the background music, they are massive Coldplay fans 😉

Beautiful fish and chips and a lovely restaurant to eat them in.

The food here was FANTASTIC!! We were a group of six with two kids. They gave us a table out of the way so there was plenty of space for the push chair. Everything was clean, including the toilets. Our food came out in about 30mins, everything came at the same time so we could all eat together and everything was delicious!! I would definitely recommend!!

We popped in to this place yesterday, after some take out chips so we could sit on the wall overlooking the beach and nibble away, and this place was not only perfectly located, but the staff chap was really friendly and very quick taking our order and getting our food. The chips did have a slightly oily taste to them, but hey, you don't expect them to taste like salad, let's face it!! The best bit was the Hull patty that we impulse added to our order - my partner was absolutely amazed by it and thoroughly enjoyed it. We've both said we'll be going back to Cleethorpes and that the Hull patty is a big part of that!!

Loved it well worth a visit if in the area

I have eaten here on many occasion. In the peak of summer and the dead of winter and the food and service are consistently good. The business does an amazing job of managing the insanely busy summer and equally so the exceptional quiet winter in comparison. Amazing work from amazing teams.

Stop off for some fish and chips, great service and taste as always

We've been 3 times so far and the food is always tasty. I like the trio selection as I can never decide what to have. The building is very grand and it looks like an old theatre and the service is always quick. The downside is that it's always busy and it's quite noisy due to the number of people in there but I guess that's the price to pay if it's busy. Don't go there either if you are just looking for cheap fish and chips. They are not cheap but it is very tasty!!

It was my first time eating Fish & Chips in the UK, but I can say it was delicious. The Medium portion was huge, the fish inside was not dry, the dough around it was crispy and not too greasy, and when poured with sauce it had a heavenly taste. A place with the atmosphere of a grand ballroom, the staff were very nice, they kept us company and asked if we needed anything. Very nice Mrs. Lesley 😊 I highly recommend the place.

I was the leader of a group of 14, mostly people with disabilities, we had 3 electric wheelchairs, 1 mobility scooter, 1 manual wheelchair. The staff, especially Laura were excellent as was the food. The venue is special, I cannot give enough praise and thanks for making our day memorable

To be honest the service could have been better had to chase up our meals but to be fair it was very busy what I had was lovely & very plentiful I couldn't finish it, I would definitely go again.

This establishment is a massive building holding people of up to 300 customers easily. Lots of seating and space. Very noisy atmosphere. Toilets 🚻 are available but not that clean, unfortunately. No parking as it is on a peer. Dog friendly.
