Took my 4 month old son for a catch up and some food with a friend, plenty of space wherever we went for pushchair and all the staff were really friendly, beautiful to walk around and the shops are really lovely for a casual trip out. Wouldn't have guessed it was there driving through. Parking not ideal but Eureka car park is a 5 minute walk away and only about 3 quid for the day.

Looked a lovely place if you enjoy socialising and the outdoor vibe of shops and food and drink entertainment. I felt bad for the shops though as they seemed unvisited. It was a Saturday afternoon, you would expect it to be the busiest time for shopping but none were frequented by even just one human. The building is quite impressive but what was super impressive were the doors!!! Worth popping to see the piece hall if you are around.

Was privileged to see PJ Harvey at the Piece Hall last week....lots of safe parking nearby, well controlled access that was swift and easy. Inside...beautiful architecture and good viewing of the stage from anywhere. Short note about the stewards....they were fantastic! I have problems with Plantar Faciatis, one lady steward noticed my pain and very kindly led me to the 'wheelchair section' and let me rest on a seat for almost the entire gig, despite not making a prior booking! Forever grateful to her...

What a gem of a place full of independent shops selling a range of goods in what is a very historic setting. It was such a relaxed and delightful public space for all to enjoy. Bars cafes and food all being served and enjoyed under parasols given the good weather. Whilst we visited the venue hosted an outdoor music event which we attended. It was such a lively night the crowd were excited and security was tight. What a great time we had visiting during the day and then for the gig at night. Saw PJ Harvey and Pixies on consecutive nights - a beautiful and historic building surrounded by valley hills that is one of the jewels in the West Yorkshire crown, whether on a gig day or not. Definitely up there as one of the UK's best outdoor venues, and easily the UK's best medium sized/5000+ capacity venues, though there is a disappointingly small pool to choose from on that front. There's a lot of gripe over the strict doors closing time of 8pm, though I imagine this isn't solely a greedy ploy to trap the captive audience in to pay £6.80 a pint (though there is the exclusive 'Piece Hall Cider' on offer, who could refuse). Instead, there's probably a more rational explanation (I hope) as to why the crowds can't filter in and out and spend their cash in the many local beautiful bars and pubs. One advantage of the building's close proximity to the station is the town's disadvantage - if coming from Leeds or Manchester there's the potential that the visiting crowds might skip Halifax entirely and only spend in the venue. Looking forward to next summer's offerings, and visiting the Piece Hall again on a non-gig day to visit the local shops and take in all its glory properly.

Have visited twice this summer for Idles (weekend) and PJ Harvey (weekday) both shows either sold out or near capacity. Love the venue, beautiful surroundings and decent sound at the shows I've been to. Also really enjoy the fact it's got a good (but too small) bar provided by Loafers as opposed to the pretty poor main bars that sell your average overpriced froth. Genuinely a stunning place for an outside show on a summer night. However, the venue desperately need to sort the logistics out for entry at the entrance on Square Road. For Idles, arrived about 7:45pm and possibly had to wait 25 minutes or so to get in which was a little on the long side but didn't think much of it. For PJ Harvey arriving at a similar time had to wait in excess of 50 minutes to get inside in what was a total mess of a queue. Slow entry on both occasions seems to be caused by some seriously over zealous and slow airport style security (I'm talking emptying pockets into trays and full body scans) and a massive list of prohibited items that were being actively confiscated off people (some reasonable, some just bonkers). There were also a fair amount of security bods just stood about doing nothing... For PJ Harvey add in that the venue just didn't seem properly prepared for a rush of people arriving between 7:30-8 and there was initially no queuing system at the bottom of the steps up to the entrance. Whilst I have a view on the security arrangements it is what it is and I'm sure it's tied to licensing. My gripe is that if they are required/choose to put such stringent and seemingly time consuming arrangements in place they need to get significantly better at getting people through and into the venue. Likewise, I have to make the assumption that a significant number of people travel to this venue from the wider region and beyond (no offence Halifax🙂) so to not be properly prepared to handle an "after work" influx of people arriving between 7:30-8 for a show that was due to start at 9 with an advertised "last entry" time of 8 is pretty poor planning to be honest. I heard that it was a similar situation at the Air show as well with lengthy delays getting in on a mid-week. Can only put the difference in wait times at the two shows I went to down to one being on a Saturday so less of an after work rush to get in but in general they desperately need to get better at this aspect of their operations. It unfortunately takes the shine off what is genuinely one of my favourite venues at the moment.
