The Shay Cafe in Calderdale

Lasagne was very cold when served to me chips were piping hot. I told one of the servers and she took it away, literally 2 minutes later my plate of food was brought back and no change to the temperature of the lasagne so I sent it back for a third time again on return the lasagne still was not warm let alone hot and by this time my chips were also going cold so I sent the food away. £8.00 wasted and we will not return there again .

Just recently they have extended into the shop next door it looks AMAZING well thought and planed out and very comfy seats. Really friendly staff excellent food and reasonably priced. Always very full on a Sunday but that's a great it means people love it. We've always been made to feel very welcome.

I love this place the food is excellent every single time! Every member of staff working there are absolutely lovely. The portion sizes are great making it worth every penny spent. Don’t hesitate to come here you won’t regret your decision.

Lovely little cafe. Really busy & popular. Went there because of the excellent reviews (thanks people). Really friendly, family-run business. I had a veggie breakfast - huge! And piping hot. Only downside was not having my beloved Turkish coffee available that day, as listed on the menu😒. Will definitely visit again when Im in Halifax❤️

Busy cafe smashing staff great breakfast!

Food was fantastic at a fair price. During our niecespilt a hot drink on herself and all the staffran over and helped us with a cold flannel and even gave some cream to help with burns.

Very busy. A bloody good caff. Just what you want! Generous and tasty food, I had a fry up, but lunches looked like they would be decent ‘home cooked’ food.

Found this on the off chance last weekend. The food was great, my mum said it was the best coffee she has had in a long time and the prices compared to most places were amazing. Definitely recommend this place if youre looking for an old school cafe vibe but with good food and atmosphere. Way way better than any wetherspoons breakfast!

Found this little place when visiting family in Halifax, great little cafe, very quick service, freshly cooked, community spirited, as used by locals. Definitely visiting again, food good, smiles all round. What a little gem.

As in the area popped in for breakfast. Was pleasantly surprised large breakfast as pictured £7.00 was cooked fresh and everything was hot unlike a lot of cafes. Sausage budget however was edible. I would visit again if in area

Great place,open Sundays and great food

Food OK but becoming expensive for a breakfast and a drink. My sons used to go there pre football but prices have crept up and no longer good value for money. Better value elsewhere.

First time visiting and we will definitely be back. Absolutely amazing food. The staff are lovely and even brought our food out to our car. UPDATE: After visiting this cafe a few times we are continually impressed by the amazing food and lovely staff! Would recommend to anyone.

To expensive n not very hot could be loads better and I expect better for price you have been warned

Coming up the North to see family and we all meet up to go for a breakfast as this was not to far away from where we was staying soon as we come in was really friendly with great manners the drinks come nice and quiet just within 5 mins the food was here 😊 all cooked and nice just one bit I was not to happy with was the omelette as was so much oil and was way to much cheese in it as it was all the pain the oven but everything else was great 👍

Took my dad here on a Saturday morning, great value for money and the food was brought quickly. Couldn’t ask for better really. (I had the vegetarian breakfast and my dad had the small full English - both came with toast, it’s just not in the picture)

I got a full English breakfast which included fried bread. The food & service were excellent.

The food come in exceptional sizes and well worth every penny.A must if you're reading this.

I really wanted to love this place. The decor is one of a traditional British cafe and I have to say looks awesome. The food however is very much aligned to greasy spoon. Sausages that have been cooked from frozen in the deep fate fryer, bacon that is a bit scraggy you get the picture. Not somewhere I would return to in a rush.

My wife and I were on a nearby stone carving course and staying in a Travelodge. According to Google, this was the only café open at 07:30 on a Sunday. What a great find! I had a large breakfast, and my wife a small. We also ordered takeout sandwiches for lunch. My breakfast, which, amongst the usual 'Full English', included fried bread and fried Spam. Most cafés now offer the inferior American option of hash browns nowadays. None of that cosmopolitan nonsense here. Just masses of great food. Neither I nor my wife needed the sandwiches until we were on our way home at 17:30. The sandwiches, a cheese and salad and a cheese, ham and salad, were once more huge and delicious. All that food and two teas were £20! My wife took half her sandwich to work on Monday for lunch. The service is spot on and fast, the staff are friendly and the café got fairly busy by 08:15. There is limited parking right outside the door.

Excellent breakfast (£6) and cup of tea (£1.20). Well worth a visit. Friendly staff.

Was ok, nothing to write home about. Tuna cheese jacket potato was decent but not enough Mayo on the tuna so was a bit dry. Food slightly expensive as well…

We are cafe owners ourselves but on our days of we always choose this place food is always good and the lady is lovely we came in with our new grandson today and she had to have a cuddle of him superb everytime

Excellent food and service every time myself and my partner visit. Never ever been and had any complaints at all. Super clean and comfortable with decent size tables a good menu choice and very friendly staff . Easy location to get to with some good parking close to it and around the area. Sunday visit this time and it was extra busy but they handle it with a very calm and relaxing nature. Well done and thank you keep up the fantastic hard work.

Great place, friendly staff. Food is okay, it is the sort of thing you could cook at home, but it is a family ran place so it's quite nice. I've been around 5 times and they have forgotten the drinks once, but they sorted this out pretty quickly. Would recommend :) I've had to amend this review. I've been here a lot of times now and I consistently see staff vaping inside, which to me isn't acceptable.
