The Copper Cow in Calderdale

Really disappointed. Visited this evening to meet with a group of girlfriends. The waitress accidentally dropped a very large tall tumbler of water with ice down my back. I was soaked to the skin. There was no attempt to help me get dried out and I changed my own chair for a dry one. I ordered the cod for my meal which was cooked beautifully but the potatoes and broccoli served with it were minuscule. I was so hungry I’ve just come home and eaten again. I was doubly disappointed to see that I had been charged the full amount for my fish and sparkling water. I know restaurants work on a tight budget but to not reduce my bill was a bit mean spirited given that I’d sat through the meal in wet clothes.

We came last week to have breakfast with Santa and we were so impressed! From the service to lovely breakfast sandwich and cuppa, to the lovely touches for he children. It was also so refreshing to not feel overwhelmed or embarrassed about our 2 year old wandering round and exploring as the session was aimed at them which we haven’t seen before. We were made to feel so welcome and, as it was our little girls first trip to Santa weren’t rushed and she was able to take her time to get her surrounding and feel comfortable seeing the big man himself! Thank you for making it such a special experience! We will certainly be back not only for a meal but hopefully next Christmas too!

Went as a family of 3 (2A and 1C). The food was amazing! Staff were friendly. Food was reasonably priced, but we found the drinks on the expensive side. We will 100% be returning and hopefully some time soon.

Came with a group and enjoyed a nice meal, drinks were good but the food was a bit bland, prices are quite steep and the ambience and atmosphere is very quite.

Visited for Sunday lunch with husband and my elderly mum. Food was delicious, even mum who is a bit picky, ate a lot more than she usually does. Service was great even though the restaurant was really quite busy with a few big parties. Worth a visit and we’ll be back.

I can't speak for the pies or steak as I didn't try them, but they looked good. The beef 'cowbab' with halloumi on a bed of salad with a home made wrap was sensational, as was the moo cow burger. This place has decent chefs. Also the pints tasted super crisp and delicious. Full marks.

We visited for a birthday celebration. This is a popular venue with couples and family. Staff worked hard although working under pressure. Well worth a visit. A little noisy as the restaurant became busy. Food excellent.

We've visited the Copper Cow for Sunday Lunch twice now and rate it as one of the best roast dinners we've had at any price, pushing for top spot in value. Matt and the team are hard working, welcoming and knowledgeable about their food and drink. It's well worth checking the specials board, and we recommend leaving room for the homemade ice cream at the end! If you fancy a walk to build up an appetite, there's a good canal path you can get to easily from the Tuel Lane car park (free on Sundays) a few minutes drive away. Note the pub is really popular on Sundays so it's probably best to book - easy to do on the website.

We had a takeaway meal for Father's day. Our food,mains and dessert was first class. The portions were generous and we thoroughly enjoyed the expetience. . Can't wait to order our next takeaway.

We've been here a few times now and this time decided to order for takeaway online and collected. It did not disappoint, the food was just as good as eating in the restaurant, super fresh and hot. I would definitely recommend visiting and also the takeaway option. We'll be back. Thanks again for another amazing meal.

We came across this gastropub when driving from Hebdon Bridge to Halifax. We had loaded fries with crispy beef and with buttermilk chicken. Both were excellent. Friendly staff, swift service and great food.

Perfect Sunday lunch! After eating my Mum's Sunday lunch for 30 years where everything was cooked for 3 hours, I hated Sunday dinners, the Copper Cow has converted me! Meat cooked to perfection, beautiful mash and roast potatoes, and don't start me on the carrots! Don't hesitate, just book! Staff couldn't be more helpful, an absolute gem in Calderdale! Great night out again. Just fancied a nice casual meal was not disappointed wow once again food was exceptional! My wife had red pepper and jalapeno hummus and I had my usual chicken wings. We both enjoyed. The hummus really nice.My wife then had seabass fillets with roasted potatoes and chilli garlic butter. I had special board it was pork loin steak cooked on a griddle with pakchoi and rice. To follow I had double chocolate brownie and ice cream wow!!! It was a shame it was quiet. It does not deserve to be. Exceptional food and great service. And reasonably priced.

My partner, 3 year old daughter and I came for Sunday lunch and we throughly enjoyed our meal. The meat was cooked to perfection and the food was really tasty. We got some additional sides pigs in blankets, cauliflower cheese etc and all the food was fantastic. We also ordered ice cream and it was one of the nicest ice creams I’ve tasted. Only a very small niggle but we ordered the roast for 2 to share and it comes with a small jug of gravy, when I asked if we could have some more the waitress said it would be £3.50 which seems a little bit steep for a jug of gravy. The waitress was quite slow and we were sat without drinks for quite a while. Overall a lovely meal and will return.

Decided to eat here again, was not disappointed wow amazing food again. I had feta cheese parcel to start, so much more than it sounds! My husband had his favourite chicken 🐔by wing's gorgeous. To follow I had lamb 🐑 kofta on flatbread the flavours so good. My husband had chicken 🐔 burger 🍔 he said that was gorgeous also. The young chef in the kitchen was very talented, also the young waitress was very helpful and professional. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. Will be back soon.

We ordered 2 adult Sunday dinners and a kids Sunday dinner.The food was very cold, we had to reheat it. I asked and PAID for extra gravy but we got one tub of gravy and that was meant to do for 3 meals and there was supposed to be extra there too, we had to be very scarce using it for 2 meals never mind the 3rd and the supposedly “extra gravy”. We ended up having to make more gravy ourselves!!! The beef was very fatty and was the same with the turkey. We also ordered blue cheese and bacon mac n cheese and we received bacon and cheese ( NOT blue cheese) pasta!!! So wasn’t mac n cheese at all!!! We received no correspondence from The Copper Cow informing us that they had run out of mac - this is the only explanation I can think of as to why we got pasta!!Overall it was very disappointing and I can honestly say I don’t think we’ll be ordering from here in the near future

Third time we have used Copper Cow for Sunday Roast over these lockdown periods.Its less than a mile from home, can't think why we haven't frequented it more often.It doesn't deserve 5 ⭐, it deserves ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Ordering process could not be easier, confirmation e-mails show this is a slick operation. Packing is wonderful, all items are recyclable and enviro friendly.Ample portion sizes at reasonable cost. Beautifully cooked, exquisite quality, superb taste in everything.Best Roast Beef Sunday Lunch anywhere.

Ordered two burgers to be delivered for our Saturday night treat, we were not disappointed. We both said they were the best burgers we had ordered in a very long time, and my other half is a burger connoisseur! Thoroughly recommend.

Just had the most amazing takeaway, Some of the best presentation for a takeaway I can remember. Great menu choice and price was fine. Three of us ate here last Friday, the food was good, two of us had steak, the other a burger. We all enjoyed our food, the service was good & the procedures were all COVID compliant.

As it has become increasingly difficult to find the 'wow' factor at our local eateries, we tried this place for the fist time today and we're so glad we did! A warm and friendly greeting then led us to our table. The restaurant operates table service, a separate entrance/exit, loads of space between diners and is exceptionally clean, which immediately put us at ease along with the fabulous service we received throughout our meal. We each had a different 'Sunday Lunch' option (the kids Sunday Lunch was excellent value at £6 for the main plus ice cream) and each meal was cooked to perfection. We agreed this was the best Sunday Lunch in a long time and will be visiting again very soon. Well done guys & keep up the great work in these challenging times. A special thank you to our waiter, who was refreshingly professional and friendly throughout.

Saw this place on Facebook and was desperate to give it a try so finally managed to get a table booked for 6 of us last weekend. It definitely did not disappoint!!! Covid regulations all in place and sanitiser everywhere, staff were amazing and put our minds at ease about the whole situation. As soon as we entered we felt like family! Rich and the barman were so attentive and could pretty much read our minds as to what drink we were going to order. Little things like that really add up to a 10/10 experience for us. Anyway on to the food, my parents shared the cote de boef which was huge and cooked to perfection (price is well worth every penny and it goes by the weight of the meat) I don’t think this place gets enough credit for being a “steakhouse” but it couldn’t have been any better for us! I had the sirloin rare, again cooked to perfection and we had a mixture of other items including the daddy burger (HUGE) and some rather healthy chicken kebabs! The truffle fries were to die for and the homemade chocolate brownie sundae (that we all shared whilst struggling to breathe) was insane! Also impressed that all their ice cream is homemade too!! We were so impressed with the food we’ve booked to visit again next week and are planning some birthday meals there in the future too! Give it a try, you honestly won’t regret it! All in all, main road and easy parking, amazing quality for price, foods INSANE (hence the title of my review) and the staff couldn’t do more for you! Fantastic hosts very friendly and attentive!Excellent service food arrived 10-15 mins after ordering. Both my hubby and I had the roast beef dinner we were asked how we’d like our beef!It melted in your mouth delicious! Lots of tasty vegetables, a generous amount of roast potatoes and a huge homemade Yorkshire pud! Then I ordered the cheesecake very light and yummy!Highly recommend you visit.Parking opposite.Covid restrictions were all in place! I’d say the only downside is it’s location on a main road but it didn’t spoil our meal!

We went to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary having been many times before. As always the food was brilliant and the service exceptional. Good social distancing was evident and there was hand sanitiser to use on entry / exit and also within the restaurant. WE couldn't fault a thing. We both had the Sirloin Steak which was spectacular as in our experience are all the steaks there. The staff as always were fantastic, friendly and efficient.

I recently ordered from the Copper Cow's newly opened takeaway service and was so impressed. The collection area in the restaurant is really well laid out and feels incredibly safe with hand sanitizer at the entrance and plenty of space. I arrived about 10 mins early and our food was still being prepared, which I was really pleased about as it means the food is cooked to order and was fresh off the grill. The meal itself was just fantastic, fresh and flavoursome and the burgers were cooked to perfection. I also loved the sustainable packaging they used, which was all cardboard so could be easily recycled. Will definitely be back and will be recommending far and wide. Thank you!

Went with family who live locally, Fantastic service food and ambiance. We have the roast sharing platter there was plenty of food cooked to perfection, for dessert on the recommendation of my cousin I had the the best Crewe brûlée I’ve ever had. We will certainly be back next time we are staying in Halifax.

Party of 5. 3 x Meat eaters & 2 x Pescatarians (last evening before we do Veganuary for the month). So we chose this restaurant based on their great choice of veggie/vegan & to some extent fish choice (unfortunately only 1 fish main on the autumn menu). Beer prizes are very reasonable, the food quality was superb 3 x Fillets, a Mushroom & lentil pot pie & Fish burger for mains. The fillet & fish burger were excellent. In fact the fish burger is better than a famous high street gourmet burger chains! Starters (chicken wings, cauliflower wings & 3 x filled yorkshire puddings were also great). Watching the kitchen team in the kitchen you could see this is a highly polished and great team. Front of house was also exceptional service. The skill is knowing when to approach the table and when to leave alone and the lad we had was excellent throughout. All in All cant recommend enough. The Value is excellent for the quality and the service from in the kitchen to attending the table were superb. Well done!

Very few complaints considering the prices, definitely a decent eat when visited with a bogof taste card discount. Rump steak was reasonably good, not as good as the decor and setting may suggest but few complaints, steak was a little over seasoned and not rested as long as I personally would like. Truffle butter was an excellent accompaniment! Fries were overly greasy and not crispy. Staff were very friendly and inviting, restraunt was very quiet for an evening, good drinks menu. Not somewhere I would personally visit again.

Food good but I feel over priced for what we had a burger and chips, drinks very expensive. Tasty and plenty of food. Parking can be a little tricky if busy.

Myself, my fiance and our 4 year old daughter have been here around 4 times now. We originally came for the Sunday roast sharer, which was amazing, the pink beef was definitely our favourite. What I do love is that there is a steak for children which our daughter loves, I haven't been to a restaurant yet that serves a smaller steak for children, it is always cooked to perfection and it's a brilliant deal as she gets a drink and a choice of ice cream for afters. The guy who welcomes you is nothing but polite and friendly. This place is a firm favourite for us.

We came for my moms birthday a meal for 4! The food was absolutely amazing and such good value for money! And to top off they found out and brought us some free shots of Jammy dodgers. Would 100% recommend! Brilliant evening and money well spent!!!!

I went to the Copper Cow with three friends on Saturday the 23 of November. I had never been before but will be happy to go again. The ambience was nice, the staff attentive and most of the food was nice. My three friends enjoyed their meals but I had one of vegetarian options for the main course, lentil and mushroom pie which not that nice and I felt a bit of a token vegetarian option. We had the house red wine which was relatively cheap for this standard of restraint but quite nice.

My husband and I are totally addicted to the beautiful Sunday Lunches at the Copper Cow. The sharing platters provide a range of three meats cooked to perfection... we like our beef pink (option to have medium/well done), so it's nice to have it melt in the mouth opposed to chewy and bland like they seem happy to serve at some restaurants. I'm gluten free, so to be able to enjoy gluten free stuffing and a crispy, tasty Yorkshire pudding is a huge plus, and it's never a problem as dietary allergies are well catered for on the menu. The vegetables are wonderful... served albdente, with red cabbage in what I think is a fennel or similar sauce accompanied by crispy roast potatoes. Mash would perhaps be a nice addition, but you can't have everything! Service is perfect, the waitreses are always very pleasant, efficient and attentive, as is the main chap, front of house who always makes you feel very welcome. We live local so we are fortunate to have this on our dooorstep, but I'd happily travel for this level of quality food and service. It's always busy, so best to book!

Visited for a sunday lunch - definitely won't be going again. Mash potato was cold, beef was tough as old boots and the yorkshire pudding tasted like it had been stored with a load of ginger - partner tasted it and said the same. Roast potatoes were tough and the entire meal tasted like it had been pre-cooked and just warmed up. Not what I expected for the price.

We have had many meals here, from myself and my wife to family gatherings and have always been pleased with everything. However, the last time we went, we both had burgers. Both were very undercooked, over half the inside pink, the coleslaw looked and tasted rather strange and the 'chips' were skin on chipped potatoes that were hard. When my wife complained to our waitress, her reply was"sorry about that". It would have been nice if the chef had acknowledged our complaint. Careful Copper Cow, there are lots of places to eat nearby!

Went for Sunday dinner and it was amazing, portion sizes were good, beef cooked to perfection, helpful staff and gorgeous deserts especially the sticky toffee ginger pudding. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Visited on a Friday evening and the place was very busy which was a good sign. Service was quick and friendly and food was delicious. Portion sizes were pretty good so visit when hungry!

We pre-booked a restaurant table and arrived on time. We were immediately asked if we wanted drinks beforehand and said no as we'd have wine with the meal. Instead of going straight to our table we were then asked to wait at a table in the bar (by an open door) & were given menus. We were left alone for 15 mins and started to wonder whether our online booking had actually worked. We had to ask for a wine list and clarification on whether we had a table booked. After ordering food & wine we were taken through to the restaurant which was mostly empty. Despite this, we were sat next to another open door and had to ask for it to be closed. My husband ordered steak with pepper sauce but it arrived with the wrong sauce, which he didn't realise until he'd poured it on and tasted it. It took a while to get the waitress's attention, then she just ended up bringing him a pot of the right sauce instead. His steak was nearly cold and he had to scrape the wrong sauce off it and pour the new one on top! My lamb kebabs were ok - nothing special. Definitely won't go back.

I’ve been to the copper cow twice recently with my friends, both experiences we’re lovely! The staff are really friendly and very welcoming. The food was delicious and their puddings are AMAZING! Really cute/cosy restaurant would highly recommend and will 100% be going back!

We visited the Copper Cow on Wednesday the 14th. I cannot fault the service, I was struggling with a bad back and the staff were brilliant.

The Sunday roast here is really delicious, perfectly cooked meat and vegetables, very generous children's menu and the most wonderful home made ice cream in a range of flavours.
