The Picnic Basket in Rother

Had a late vegan breakfast here while on a solo day trip to Bexhill on Sea. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly, helping me with my dietary requirements and giving advice on the local area parking wise. I will definitely eat here again.

The Picnic Basket is a traditional cafe, serving superbly cooked breakfasts and lunches, at very reasonable prices. All delivered to your table by delightful, friendly people.

I was out with a friend who has very particular tastes due to autism. The lady was really friendly and catered to my friend and it was a lovely lunch. I had the cheese salad which was so good. I cannot rate this restaurant highly enough and they made us feel really at home. The prices were good and they only took cash or paypal which was great for us as I disagree with the cashless movement. The chef was also really friendly. Wish all places were like this! We will definitely come here next time we visit.

This place is an absolute credit to Bexhill! We always saw the place when we went past on the bus and realised always busy at various times . Well we went to try it , walked in looking at everyone eating loads of really good looking meals - I had roast of the day which was pork ams my BF had liver ...his plate was half full of meat onions and gravy , looked delightful amd extra gravy in a jug , choice of potato type, and veg , , my plate turned up with 4 thick slices of proper cooked pork none of the processed stuff - 3 veg , roast potatoes and mash , stuffing and Yorkshire and extra jug of gravy - it was absolutely gorgeous! The value for money is unreal , they even do a smaller portion or a bigger portion ! And 2.50 for a hot dessert if you get it with the dinner ! We came out if there full to the brim and absolutely satisfied it was absolutely delicious , a totally worthwhile experience to go there , we went the next day for breakfast ! It didn't disappoint ! If you want a trip out for some good food and a great atmosphere run by lovely ladies this is the place for you !!!

I eat here every week with my friend. The menu is diverse, all the usual cafe faves and also slimming world fry ups too. Daily specials are great. I particularly love their home made quiche & coleslaw. Salads, pancakes, omelets, main meals, puddings with custard. All reasonably priced and served with love and banter. Nothings too much trouble for the ladies. My Dad comes here alot too and he's a master butcher and ex army chef. His praise of the place is very much to be proud of. Thanks ladies, keep on going. Went in here today,had breakfast,it was the best breakfast I've ever had,everything cooked to perfection, even the cuppa was good,place is clean,people who worked there were lovely,really friendly place,will be going back whenever I'm in bexhill

Good start to the day. Very good breakfast (I could customized it a bit) , great hot coffee, friendly staff. We keep coming back there.

Amazing service! The food was divine and especially for the price. The cleanliness of the place was impeccable. The staff are incredibly friendly and I would 100% recommend this cafe.

Lovely food at a great price. Cooked beautifully. The staff are really lovely here. The only thing i would say is that the decor could possibly do with refreshing. Will return though

Went for breakfast at the picnic basket after hearing that it had been rated best cafe in Sussex. In my opinion, a good fry up should consist of well cooked, locally sourced fresh produce. The sausages and bacon were of poor quality (type that is usually frozen in large quantities) and the beans seemed as if they had been microwaved, instead of cooked on the hob. The breakfast was served with potatoes chips, I didn’t feel there was a place for these on my plate, a hash brown or black pudding would have been much better. Was not offered a choice of toast or bread, the bread was nice and fresh bu I would have preferred toast and I’m not sure I’ve ever had breakfast anywhere that hasn’t given the option. The coffee came out with milk on the side, which is normal, however fresh milk would have been what I expected, not long life sachets that you would get in your room in a hotel. I didn’t drink the coffee and I won’t be going back for breakfast in a hurry. Disappointing.

Good old fashioned British that came with great service the food is always consistent good and I love coming back in here every time never fails to disappoint. The staff at cheeky incredibly and I love it. Will always come back. Best breakfasts around.

Had the veggie breakfast. Filling and tasty. Places like this are getting harder to find so get it while you can.

Don't be fooled by the ordinary look of the premises because the breakfasts are superb. They offer three sizes and we chose 2 midis. The quantity was just right and only £11 with coffees included in the breakfast price. Lovely bacon, properly cooked tomato and surprise, surprise freshly cooked sauteed potatoes. These normally taste terrible in most places as they sit on the side for too long, but not here. Very friendly, bubbly and efficient service too. No surprise it was voted best cafe in Sussex.

Good straightforward food, lovely fry up, cheap and friendly. Good range of menu, or just a cup of tea.

I was recommended this cafe although it looked grubby I assumed the food would make up for it. Took friends and family. On arriving it was hot no Windows open and it smelt of burnt toast I stood waiting to order and although the ladies saw me choose not to acknowledge me I contemplated walking out but we were hungry I wish we had walked out now. The food was very mediocre I ordered scrambled egg on toast it was a tiny portion the toast was the end of the bread. We had to keep asking for more mayo as they put it in tiny pots. Gammon was over cooked The glasses were dirty. The woman was washing up at the sink and was also making toast at the same time.All in all terrible experience

Went here for breakfast. Child friendly. Friendly staff. Place is a little outdated but it was clean.

Always go to the picnic basket the maxi every time and you never leave disappointed. Even my kids know that going to picnic basket is a treat.

La clientela de hombres de negocios que dirigía obreros para las mujeres de compras cuando fui y había bastante cola para pedir comida en el mostrador, pero pronto nos sirve con comida maravillosa a precios increíblemente baratos, todo el día todos los días desayunos, cenas y asados, caseros, etc. natillas estuvó Qué lugar. A bit spit & sawdust but really friendly with generous portions and well cooked, what is not to like.

Can't go wrong here. The staff are really friendly and accommodating and the food is ample and well cooked. What more is there to say.

£5.50 p, por un Maxi desayuno - 2 salchichas, bacon 2 (excelente y crujiente), pan frito, tomate frito, mushrooms,2 huevos revueltos, 2 muy gruesas rebanadas de pan y mantequilla y una taza de té. Una gran relación calidad-precio y un verdadero antiguo fritos. Mientras que la decoración un poco dejado la bromas entre el frente de la casa y la cocina me mantuvieron entretenidos, especialmente que 'reír' !

We asked The Picnic Basket to provide a buffet for 60 people following a family funeral they provided everything exactly to our specifications at a venue elsewhere in Bexhill in atrocious weather and the food provided was very much appreciated by the people there. Thanks to all involved.Also the price was exceptionally reasonable.

The Picnic Basket recently catered for my Granddaughter's Christening. The food arrived on time, was generous in quantity and tasted great. Many of the guests commented on how good the food was. All the staff were friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. Our family would certainly recommend the Picnic Basket and will use them for any future family event.

The Picnic Basket supplied the buffet for my daughters Christening, and so many of our guests commentated on how lovely the food was. It was an excellent spread and we will most certainly use them again for any future functions

Since learning,The Builders cut, thick and thin bread options, Dry fried bread and red only tomatoesThe Picnic basket has gone from the best cafe in Sussex to one with no contest in sight.The great food, friendly welcome and free entertainment is second to none.No matter what the mood,what the weather, after breakfast, (all seems brighter) A great way to start the day!Well done girls, keep it up.P/S The other Bill was an evil Bill and I killed him.

It's not fancy, it's not got sea views, no band ever sang about it, but it's the best value breakfast you can buy in a café anywhere. Great staff, really friendly, lot's of humour and good service. Highly recommended, but please don't tell everyone, let's just keep this between you and me ;)

I have been here a couple of Times for a breakfast it was ok but have had better ones, could do with tables etc being up dated bit scruffy & outdated

You are paying for the food not the surroundings, we enjoyed a hearty breakfast that was cooked to order.The café is clean and well run with friendly staff

Easy to see why so many people go to the picnic basket and it has its regulars. The food is great and not found another breakfast locally that can compete.

Why have a cooked breakfast at home when you can have a great one at the Picnic Basket, excellent value for money with friendly staff.

As an occasional treat I loved to have a good old fry-up breakfast. The Picnic Basket is a great place to enjoy one. A lovely cafe with friendly staff and great food.

The menu is extensive, the staff friendly and the food of a good quality. If you like a good fry-up you won't go wrong here, and the maxi breakfast (which includes tea or coffee) will leave the biggest appetite satisfied.

The only place I go for breakfast, great food, fab staff, and child friendly, cater to any whim you have.

Absolutely dreadful place. Served by someone called Gemma. Terrible customer service and very rude. Will never return here. There are much better in Bexhill

Always get a good fry up here tastes good is not covered in grease like some cafes and is good value too
