I've been coming here for many years. My wife and I took a couple of friends here on Wednesday. We always come for the friendly welcome; the beautiful, old, Cornish bar with its roaring fire and for the spectacular view down the Camel Estuary from the modern restaurant room. The food is always good but Wednesday's Gurnard special was sensational. And much more impressive (and better value!) than Padstow's more famous venues. Can't wait to come back.

We were looking forward to our first visit to the Pickwick Inn. I should have smelt the coffee when we called ahead to say we may be late having been held up on the A30 due to an accident only to be told… “I’m sorry the kitchen closes at 8pm we can’t hold your reservation”. We made our 7.30 reservation. When asked where we were i politely said this may affect some of their Customers…I was told “ if you’re at Launceston that won’t affect us”?! 🤔 . Not impressed. On arrival we had a beer and viewed the specials board only to be told the crab linguine was off. Thereafter we were shown to our table and ordered our starters. So far so good. I ordered the moules mariniere and my girlfriend the “blackened squid”. The squid rings looked very manufactured ( maybe Brakes frozen)? Pretty rubbery and tasteless. My moules were ok but no shell nor finger bowl. Things went downhill from there… I ordered the confit pork belly which was fatty and no crackling plus a dreadful gravy which looked and tasted like Brakes Maggi Demi glace. I had to leave most of it. My partner ordered cod and chips which was laden with soggy batter and a manufactured tartar sauce with undercooked chips. We decided to quickly retreat to the bar to have a ‘safe’ beer only to be told you have to pay now before you leave the restaurant! 🙄. We left quickly. To top it all I’ve now spent 30 minutes on the loo with food poisoning (probably due to undercooked or old mussels). Shellfish goes through you pretty quickly if it’s bad! Overall it was a terrible experience. Having been in the hospitality business for 30 years apiece we do not like writing bad reviews but this was really awful. Not an experience we wish to repeat. Never again.

We ate here the last time we visited Cornwall 4 years ago so decided to book in again during our holiday this year. The restaurant has beautiful views over the Camel Estuary so it makes for a really great setting to eat. I chose the belly pork, my wife had the fish and chips and my 11 year old son had the adults burger. All 3 dishes were fantastic and the portion sizes were larger than expected. The prices may be a little more than other restaurants but I definitely think what we had was worth every penny to be honest. There was also a great drinks selection and the service was also excellent. We would definitely go back again in the future if we were in that area of Cornwall.

I've been going to The Pickwick every year for the last 20 years but this year will be the last. Our party was divided into two tables and one table had finished their main course before the other was served. The staff were indifferent when this was pointed out. The food was good but not the kind of experience we had come to expect. I felt we were treated quite shabbily.

Wasn’t the warmest of welcomes on arrival , but staff were ok . Sauvignon was on the warm side and had to ask for ice to cool it down which wasn’t great. Food was excellent, hot fresh and tasty. As we had our dog we had to eat in the bar which lacked atmosphere, apparently the restaurant which looked very nice has great views . For bar food it was pricey compared to other similar establishments

Excellent value at only £10. Retired to our room for a drink and relax. Breakfast again was excellent plenty of choice and all local ingredients. Couldn't fault it at all. We found a gem of a place at the head of the Camel Estuary. Quite simply perfect for a few days exploring this beautiful area. The Pickwick Inn is full of old world charm while having super modern rooms with fantastic views down the Camel estuary towards Padstow and Rock. We love this part of Cornwall and come here a lot from our base in Looe and although we can be home in 45mins we will be staying here again! As mentioned the rooms are brilliant. To add to this the food was also so good and the staff friendly and chatty all making for a great and memorable experience. We would recommend all day long!

I’ll keep it short…. Booked for Sunday Roast around 1.15, £20 per roast, I chose chicken and partner chose pork. Ordered and paid at the bar so £50ish quid with drinks. Food arrived promptly, well presented but was honestly the most disappointing meal I’ve had in a long time! Chicken was dry, roast potatoes had a weird tang, the yorkshire looked great but had a weird texture, gravy was watery, the veg which was served separately was boiled to death and floppy and to top it off, no stuffing?!? We both struggled to eat it, partner was getting embarrassed because it was quiet in the bar and she thought staff could see I wasn’t eating, tried to palm some off to the dog but he wouldn’t eat it either?!? Anyway in short, staff were nice but we left gutted that we paid £50 and still hungry. They did check to see if we were okay but there was no way we were eating anything else there and I’m not the person to demand cash back! Shame but probably won’t go back…..

On entering the pub we thought what lovely cosy setting , very old world with beams , and busy ,we then went through to a very modern restaurant, which didn't seem to match the quaintness of the pub , we were welcomed by a waitress and seated and given menus , my 1st thought was it was cold in there yes there were only 3 tables dining in the huge space , but you should still feel warm. The wine menu was extremly limited if you didn't want a bottle, and just wanted a glass I ordered a dry pino grigio rose , when it arrived it was very sweet I asked had a mistake been made, and I'd been given a zinfandel instead , but the waitress returned saying no it was correct, I asked could I swap it as it was way too sweet , and most definitely not dry as a pino should be ,which they allowed but there was no other rose options by the glass so had to opt for a white pino instead. We then placed our order my husband ordered the pate and at £12.00 we thought quite expensive for a starter, but thought it must be something special I ordered the prawn and crayfish cocktail, again £14.00 for a starter which I've never paid in a pub restaurant, These prices are more high end restaurant, which this place is certainly not.my husband ordered the shepards pie off the special board to be told sorry i don't think there's any left , it sold out at lunchtime ( so why wasn't it removed from the board ), it wasn't exactly busy in the restaurant. It still wasn't removed after our order as a couple who came in 20 mins after us ordered it again to be told again no sorry it sold out . Our starters arrived and quite frankly we're nothing special for the money my husband had a small pot of pate a couple of small pieces of French toast and some beetroot pickle mine was a dish with iceberg lettuce with very cheap small prawns thrown inside covered in a spicy sauce no sign of any crayfish , for the price it was downright disgraceful I'd of expected a beautiful glass dish featuring what was advertised and maybe a longastine for decoration, but it was a cheap prawn cocktail aka 1970"s style. No service check was done throughout our starters, even though 4 waitresses were stood around by the kitchen doing nothing much , when the dishes were collected by a young girl I mentioned the lake of crayfish for her to say I will go speak to the chef , so I expected her to do so and return with an explanation, but no nothing , when the mains came it was a different waitress she was new that evening as she told us she was training earlier ,I again mentioned my disappointment at the starter , and she said she would speak to the manager . She actually did and returned saying the crayfish wasn't up to standard so they chose not to include it ,they did rake it off the bill, but sorry if you cannot provide the ingredients that's on the menu then you apologise and offer an alternative, or say are you happy to receive it without one of the main ingredients and don't just serve it and say nothing, thinking the customer will pay for something that's missing the main ingredient. We chose the pork belly main it was nice but we expected separate dishes of vegetables not it just all thrown on one plate with no care really taken apart from a pice of crackling stuck upright in the mash. Sorry but This meal was well below average for the prices the place is charging . We never leave a restaurant without leaving a tip but sorry the whole experience left of feeling one wasn't deserved last night . I would definitely not recommend this place nor would I return . Its over priced cheap quality food, The one waitress that was okay and doing her job was the new lady , but all the others seemed like they just couldn't be bothered.

From the moment we arrived and welcomed by the very friendly staff we knew we had made a good decision. The bedrooms are spacious and have amazing views over the estuary. The rooms are comfortable, well furnished and the local soaps in the bathroom are a great touch. We had an evening meal in the restaurant where the staff were so helpful and friendly. The food was first class. Likewise the breakfast was excellent and the views over the estuary makes it a good start to the day. A great mix of hotel, local pub and nice restaurant. Fantastic !

My fiancé had the steak which was beautiful, I had the catch of the day ‘Dover Sole,’ which came with peeled boiled potatoes, green beans and I believe pak choi. For me, it was bland. We turned up on the off chance that we, family of 5 and 2 dogs, could get a decent meal. We originally sat outside as one of our dogs is reactive, but it got cold so we moved inside and were given a table out...

Have eaten here many times over the years when in the area but sadly the quality has gone down and the prices very much up! Poor value for money, the quality of the food is average pub food, nothing special or flavoursome and the prices...

The best place we have been to in cornwall, from the rooms to the pub, the restaurant, the views and of course the staff. A special mention to Owner Nikki, to bar staff Sally and April and Chef Erik. They went above and beyond for...

Second time we paid a visit to this establishment, we hadnt booked our first visit, the landlord tried seating us in the noisy bar. It was noisy as he was hosting his friends and luckily enough his wife after a quiet word seated us in...

Visit here for a meal most years when we are in the Wadebridge area. Dined there on Sunday evening, what an absolute disaster. Places like this shouldn’t do Sunday roasts if they can’t do them properly. The roast potatoes, roast parsnips, cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire...

Fantastic restaurant with a fantastic view, all made better by the fantastic food. We were a party of 8 adults and 4 children, all part of a 50th Birthday celebration, and had a fantastic time. Would strongly recommend.

Okay food. Okay drinks. Mediocre service. No smiles from staff, and no management to be seen. Beer only upside.

Food not nearly as good as 2 years ago, but prices have gone up considerably. Riding the Padstow penny train until it kills them.

Found this delightful upstairs cafe by chance and had some of the best vegetarian food for a long time. We were made very welcome and chose the hummus bowl and roasted veg toasted sandwich. Both were excellent and very filling.

I've only ever called in for a beer but no complaints so far and staff are nice too. There's a big beer garden which is very useful for the kids and dogs.

The ice creams here are beautiful! Really generous portions and are very well presented. The customer service we received was outstanding, my daughter had a massive meltdown (ASD) and they were nothing but supportive, understanding and helpful. We'd had a very tough day today with meltdowns galore and this one was by far the worst of the day yet I never felt alone or judged. People like you make the biggest difference and I am so very grateful for you going out of your way to help and care. Thank you x
