Staff that served us seemed unhappy to be there which put us off wanting to stay it was early doors too, we was the 3rd group to arrive! I'd of got it if they had just spent the last few hours dealing with intoxicated people. Lack of toilets! having to share the disabled toilet was ridiculous Security/door staff absolutely lovely and very professional, we had a birthday ballon (not allowed in) no issue tho they offered to keep it at the door for us which we really appreciated. thank you! This place has great potential I hope my experience was a one off

Food was okay but cannot altar or add extras in burgers besides a patty. Was refused adding extra bacon or extra cheese etc. Drinks were cold and refreshing. Tables were sticky and seats broken and fallen through. The toilets were taped up and damaged with cobwebs of years above head height. The experience of light music, sports news provided a great pub ambience. To score higher would need to add more customisations to meals (don't mind paying extra for this) and need to maintain the fixtures, fittings and facilities.

Quiz night was a blast everyone was good to be around, staff are friendly, courteous and helped me with my needs as a disabled person. Will be returning next week on Monday for quiz night

Fantastic night out on July 22 & 25 for karaoke with my partner the only problem I found was when someone was singing I couldn't hear they're voice on the mic that much so I think the dj needs to turn the wireless microphone up. Apart from that it was a great night on Thursday and Sunday and the larger was £2.00 double vodka and coke £2.50 and a coke zero £1.70 and the staff and owner and doorman was nice and very helpful when I was having seizures on Thursday 22 July so I would like to thank all of the staff,doorman and owner for the great night Thursday and Sunday. It's a great place for karaoke and cheap drinks

My wife and I visited a few days ago and, while we sympathise with the hospitality industry in current climes, the ‘hospitality’ we received at this joint was beyond a joke. Upon entry to the building, we found ourselves roped off in a type of holding pen - entry forbidden. It wasn’t until a sourpuss with a temperature gun approached and, without a word of explanation, pointed the device like a pistol at our heads. My wife was terrified. We then had to wait nearly 20 minutes at our table before we were served, while the three staff members on duty stood at the bar doing literally nothing at all. I might add the entire pub was empty - no wonder. These guys need people to do them a favour and put them out of their misery. The place is in its death throws - do the compassionate thing and euthanise it. DON’T VISIT

Fancied popping in for a quick bite to eat which was great as usual. Due to the nice weather we were having I chose to have an ice cream sundae. A few different options but I chose my fail safe - marshmallow. It's was half price, huge and the toasted marshmallow on top created a lovely sauce. Hopefully will have more nice weather to enjoy another!

Social distancing with tables sectioned off with plastic curtains giving it a feel of being in an episode of Dexter. One way system for walking around. Not many at the bar. The door staff zapping on my head, temperature checks before being allowed in. Had a great first night out since lock-down

The staff are amazing and made sure we had a great lunch. I love the way the Phoenix have put up all the plastic to separate tables, it made us feel safe from this horrible virus. Will be back again soon :)

I visited the Phoenix with the family last week, during eat out to help out and I was pleasantly surprised. The quality of the food was excellent. The service was exceptional bearing in mind the restaurant was very busy and staffing levels have halved since lockdown. I will definitely return

Lovely atmosphere great food, my husband and I had the 8oz rump steak it was perfectly cooked, tasted beautiful with a nice little side salad along with chips and peas great value for money, the staff we very friendly and pleasant also well done for all the covid measurements in place, it was nice to feel safe in a clean environment

Popped out with some friends and wanted something light. Asked for a ham omelette and wasnt expecting much. Didnt want chips as an extra but the staff couldn't do enough for me and went through all the extras. Ended up with a huge perfectly cooked omelette filled with chunks of gammon ham (not the cheap packet stuff), mushrooms and cheese, 2 crispy hash browns, 2 sausages and 2 toast. Was far more filling than expected but tasted lovely! We had 2 meals for less than £10 and the pints were £1.99. Nice atmosphere with background music and TV screens. Definitely visiting again soon!

They told me the wait was 15 minutes. I ate all of my awful meal because I was so hungry by the time my food arrived. Bland fries that were covered in bland cheese. The burger was burnt and tasted like smoke. The staff acknowledged the long wait and gave a free drink - to the couple next to me. But not to me. It’s not a great looking place. I should’ve expected it to be bad. I wish I hadn’t used the toilet. It was disgusting.

Not good, food took ages and then arrived separately meaning my son had to eat on his own while we waited Fish was so undercooked it ate my chips!! Good pub for pint but a miss for grub

Didn't have anything to eat but as it was a rugby day we both had a small tray of curry and chips for free at half time. These were a reward if we bought more than 2 drinks. Staff were pleasant and friendly

Well! What can I say? As a first time visitor to Bridgend - and Wales! - I feel that The Phoenix was a very welcomed port in the storm. The staff were very hospitable, informative about the menu, and about the deals and discounts available. Service was so quick, and the portion sizes were surprisingly large, and delicious to boot. All in all, I can give The Phoenix a glowing review from a stranger in town. Definitely dotted down on our list of places to escape to.

The staff here are dedicated - dedicated to avoiding any semblance of work. This bar features some of the laziest people I’ve ever encountered in the world. And if you wanna be a record breaker then dedication’s what you need. Maybe we’ll go into a bit of detail. I’ve seen people go up to the bar hoping to be served and witnessed two staff members play the paper/stone/scissors game to decide who has to get off their backside and actually get the customer the drinks. Another thing I’ve observed is that the fire escape is basically for the ‘workers’ to smoke fags outside on stools (again, avoiding work) but, ironically creating a significant fire risk. To me, it’s astonishing the amount of fags smoked by the staff haven’t resulted in the building being burned to the ground.

Had a really good works party here a few weeks ago UNTIL a fight broke out about 1130pm. By the time door security arrived we had already dropped the lad. He may think twice about disrupting a Prison Officers night out next time. This place is ok until they move tables to make a dance floor. Once this happens the music goes up & it's good bye to any conversation. Definitely for the 20-30 year age group.

Am in the Pheonix now and just really enjoyed a lovely birthday meal. Had mixed grill and hubby had rocky road chicken. Was absolutly beautiful , meat done exactly as we asked for, lovely and hot and staff lovely. Would highly reccomend

We visited on the 6 May for Sunday lunch. There were four adults and a 2 yr old. The food was hot and delicious, choice of meats, you ordered at the bar , it was not a carvery. We also had a pudding, my favorite course, all were lovely, i did try a little of each from the family plates. The staff are a credit, very friendly and efficient nothing was too much trouble. My grandson even had a kinder egg from the barmaid which really made his day. Hopefully when we're down again my son will bring me back.

went there back in January for food for my birthday with work colleagues there was about 10 of us, not one of us enjoyed the food at all, the burgers were dry and i asked for the steak rare but it was clearly well done now i didn't want to ask for another as it took 45 minutes to an hour for hour food to come out.so yesterday being the 30/04/2018 me and a friend went in and thought it might of got better, we asked for 2 large mixed grills both with rare steak again we waited for 45 minutes for our food during this time we were watching the door open hoping this was our food but no instead a girl walked out of the kitchen in her chef whites picking her ear then looking at the tip of her finger and wiped it her whites, finally our food has come out the steaks were medium well, so i asked for a refund and explained to the women who came to see me this is the second it has happened and she looked at me mumbled something under her breath giving me attitude baring in mind this was the manager. i would 100% not recommend i.t
