Promptly opened to the 11am chimes of the local church bells. Regulars don't hang around in popping in for a morning pint.

Excellent quiz night first Thursday of every month. A pleasing level of difficulty to the questions and the MC controls it well

Oldschool dingy pub with cool (fake?)18th century signs. Good for a pint and watching football

FOR some strange reason I have never been to Gillingham even though I live in Dorset. That was rectified recently when we decided to drive up and spend part of a day there. We visited the town's very good little museum and later had a meal in a cafe before we felt the need for a pint. With no knowledge we had to ask about local pubs and one resident recommended we try The Phoenix because it was a friendly pub where the beer was kept well. They were right on both counts with staff giving us a nice welcome and pouring me a pint which was as clear as crystal and very tasty. Fittings were simple and basic but the toilets were clean and well kept which is all you can ask of any pub you visit. Certainly we'd have no hesitation in coming back to the Phoenix when next we are in the area.

We were hoping for food, but its s wet pub, so only rolls. Looks nice and comfortable and the barman suggested alternatives.

Ok place, landlord not very welcoming and pretty cold in the bar, on a plus note the cider was good 😉

I really enjoyed my time in the phoenix. All the customers were friendly, and the barmaid was very nice. I found the prices very reasonable for the area too

Not a big pub, but very friendly and a good range of beers. Conveniently situated for a quick pint or two before visiting the Tandoori house just around the corner. Nice.

Good value lunch time meal. Simple menu serving large portions. Home cooked. The pub is dated and basic but they serve good pub food. I'm told they keep their ale well.

My husband and I recently had lunch at the Phoenix. The food was very good, staff friendly and the beer is always perfect! We often stop by in the early evening just for a beer. The landlord keeps his beer very well, and there is always a nice selection. The atmosphere is friendly. Everything you’d want for a town pub. Always a warm welcome when you come in the door.

Fantástico asado servido por el nuevo chef Gino. Yo sería feliz de tener este día de Navidad! Todo por 7 libras. 95. He tenido dos veces el precio de las comidas que no son un parche en asado ginos.

Several lunchtime visits, all good. Friendly and efficient service. Good quality, ample portions and good value. Friday lunch main course for just £5 per head. Two courses at £6.95 the rest of the week. Hard to beat when it comes in a friendly, unpretentious pub.

We stopped in here for lunch after a quick walk round Gillingham, quick because the high street was dominated by 8 estate agents and about the same amount of charity shops. As far as I could tell this was one of only two pubs in Gillingham. We were allowed into the bar area with our dogs, as were a few other people, and the very friendly and helpful barmaid laid our table and brought us menus. Food was basic pub food; my wife had a baked potato with prawns and I had the ham, eggs and chips. For what they were they were very good, ham off the bone and nice chips, and we were happy enough with what we had. Reasonable sized portions that were plenty for us at lunchtime. Really enjoyed the Sharpe's beer too. Seemed a very friendly pub with a good atmosphere and would definitely visit again if in Gillingham, although that is very unlikely as there seemed to be very little to see or do there.

Uneasy atmosphere and poor service, recently went in and was stared down by the barman, making me uncomfortable. He then rudely said I wasn't allowed to use the toilet, because I hadn't asked, because he had intimidated me I didn't want to say anything. Will not go in again.

Average small town pub, quite comfortable but with a somewhat 'quaint' atmosphere. The first time I called in for a swift pint I found myself surrounded by little old ladies 'taking tea' - I thought I'd been wafted back to the 'thirties! Three pumps but only one on - Badger. Say no more. Now re-opened and with a new landlord it at least does some decent ales now - the Tribute was spot-on.

Reeves the bakers are very expensive, they charge £3.60 for a sausage roll.!!!!!! We will never use them again. Our local bakers charge £1.39 for a large sausage roll.

No idea how this chain is still in business. Apparently a frap is a lukewarm watery drink with some cream on top - for a fiver!
