My friend decided to celebrate the 25th anniversary (to the day) of opening her independent shop on the Kings Road yesterday evening at the Phene in the garden, so this was a very special booking we made in advance. When we arrived, things had not gone to plan at the restaurant and we were offered a table indoors. We were gutted...The Manager said there was nothing she could do. We were 7 people. There was however a huge table outdoors where there were only 2 boys, so I figured we could work something out with them, considering it was such a special occasion. The boys very kindly moved, but it took my suggesting it after lots of stress instead of the Manager thinking about finding a solution herself. In my job, like most jobs, one must always find solutions to difficult situations. I could not say 'it is not possible.'. There is always a way. I hope the Manager will do this in future. The evening turned out well in the end. The food was excellent. The one niggle I would have is that it was too crowded in the garden where we were. There was a huge table behind us (who were lovely), but the tables could have been moved so that our table of 7 could have moved a bit more easily. I was too exhausted at this point to mention that at the time, but I think it is important for future reservations.

Absolutely shocking food quality. Our group ordered 2 roast beef’s and 2 Caesar salads. The beef was well overcooked and grey and the potatoes were soft as if they’d been boiled rather than roasted. The Caesar salads had a very low quality leg of chicken with bones all the way through. They were on a very plain bed of lettuce. Overall a very poor experience in what used to be a good pub.

It's a lovely venue and we had an extremely delightful waiter. However, the food was not up to much and the wine was not good either. Because we were a party of 10 we were made to order our set menu in advance when we booked. The food wasn't good. Sorry.

We ate in the very nice beer garden, which is somewhat of a luxury in the middle of Chelsea. The food was absolutely delicious, we had Lamb rump and Venison, and both were cooked to perfection. It's a fabulous oasis, with great staff, and wonderful food

I fell on this pub using Google maps, a lovely tucked away location. Although I didn't eat the food looked lovely. The downside I suppose was adding a service charge onto the bill when only having a drink.

I captured a wedding here last month and it was absolutely beautiful. I loved the floral arch and the staff were great. I look forward to coming back and shooting more weddings here.

🚇 South Kensington 🍺 £6.60 Amstel Tucked away in a leafy side street just a short walk from the King’s Road, you’ll find The Phene pub. The nearest Tube is South Ken, it’s a ten minute walk to get here. This pub was built in 1853 and was designed by and named after the architect and local character John Samuel Phene. George Best used to be a regular here, The Daily Telegraph called it “George Best’s second home". This is a stylish multi room Gastropub which has five separate areas. The main bar area is bright and airy with contemporary comfortable feel. The servery is located on the right, at the back of the main bar is cosy dining area with eclectic prints on the walls. On the first floor is a spacious room for hire which has a small bar. On the top floor is the snug Club Room which is an intimate setting. To left of the pub is a good size leafy beer garden. There is a decent choice of mainstream beers available plus once cask ale. I decided on a pint of Amstel, my pint was ok, price point was above average. The food menu consists of restaurant quality seasonal dishes which will appeal to the gastronomes amongst you. On Sundays Roasts take centre stage, most Roast options are around £20. I visited around 4pm on a mild March afternoon for an afterwork pint. There were a few punters in the beer garden and the main bar was relaxed and chilled. I had a nice chat with the Guv’nor who was kind enough to give me a tour and tell me about the history of the pub, top fella. The Phene, pronounced ‘Feenay’ is a plush Gastro that reflects the area it resides in. This pub will appeal to foodies that prefer the relaxed feel of a pub setting rather than a restaurant, If you just fancy a drink, you are still catered for. Yesterday we went for Sunday lunch, the food was great, I had the lamb rump, and my wife had the beef and friends had the lamb and chicken followed by strawberry crumble and custard plus ice cream. So, we arrived and got seated ok, had to wait ages for drinks and menu, they could not find a jug for the water, we had to ask so many times on a hot day. Salmon tarter arrived for starters, we never saw the sourdough bread! Mains arrived and we offered no horse radish or mint sauce, I had to ask several times for the mint sauce and was about to take my plate back when a waiter arrived with it, my wifes ice-cream had to go back three times before they got it right. The lady at the front of house was doing a good job trying to hold the whole lot together but the staff supporting her were a shambles, slow, not attentive, could not understand what mint sauce was etc. Also, they need to clean under all the seating and benches, looks the floor underneath them had not been swept for weeks, leaves, rubbish fag butts etc. For the sake of the chef and the kitchen this place must do better.

Helpful attentive staff and great ambience and good food at this stylish popular pub-restaurant in Chelsea last Friday evening. My friends had grilled mackerel and sole while I had a tasty Monkfish bourride (French fish stew) - plus a lovely Hungarian white wine. There's a noisy garden and the inside isn't quiet but we were able to change tables for our desert when a nearby party got unbearable, so it was an excellent evening

We loved The Phene, my daughter got married there, upstairs in the Oakley room which was stunning. There is a projector so you can do fils and photos. After the ceremony we had a sit down meal in the same room. Food was great, staff were attentive and attention to detail. Afterwards we went into the area in the garden set aside for us. Great day.

Wonderful drinks but beware if you sit on the patio there are tons of mice scurrying in the trees behind you and crawling up them…

Dropped in for a pint, no idea about the food, I was thirsty. Nobody else was in there so no atmosphere really, too early.

Roll the dice here - the food is excellent and atmosphere great, it’s only the service that lets them down. Not all service to be fair but the two females that looked after our table were useless and one was simply rude to the point we were considering removing service charge. If it wasn’t for the other waiters compensating for them it would have been that way.

I cannot recommend The Phene enough. We unfortunately had a venue cancel on us 2 weeks before our civil ceremony at Chelsea Town Hall. The same day, we went into the Phene to drown our sorrows and was met by Carys. After a chat, Carys and Ben figured out a way to help and to convert the back of the pub into an event space for us. Everything was sorted and communicated in one day. Not only was it a god send - we had the best time EVER. Carys ended up being our server for the evening and my entire family fell in love with her. Every detail was paid attention to, the food was amazing and the service experience from start to finish was beyond. Even the security guard working that evening watched the Chelsea game with my dad on his phone and made sure every family member got into a taxi. What could have been a disaster was made into the wedding of our dreams because the Phene team just decided to help. We can never thank you enough. If amazing food, atmosphere, service and generally awesome people are what you're looking for in a pub, I fully recommend the Phene.

Beautiful pub, and well made cocktails. The bar is very small though so the area gets crowded and it can take a while to get your drinks.

We have been here a few times and went for Sunday lunch. We did not have a reservation but they seated us anyway. The Sunday roast is excellent which we shared. We ordered chips with it, which aren’t on the menu but they do have them and they are delicious. It’s better than any other potato so might as well just put it on the menu. The roast lamb was delicious as were the Yorkies. It’s in a beautiful neighbourhood hidden away in Chelsea and well worth a visit.

Hosted our wedding dinner here, couldn’t have been better! Wonderful team and all the guests loved the food, thanks so much !

Really decent local gastropub in a small enclave just at the foot of Albert bridge. Attentive, polite staff, good food and a stripped back, relaxed decor and atmosphere make it a good place for brunch/lunch or dinner with friends.

We had a delightful evening at the Phene! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was intimate, the service was GREAT! Our waitress was lovely and made everything in her power for us to have a wonderful evening!

Worst bar service I've experienced for ages. Loads of staff milling around. Only one person serving at the bar. Hopeless

Vegan options include an excellent Vegan Sunday Roast. I really liked it: a mushroom-cashew pastry, gravy, roast potatoes, greens and root veg. A Bloody Mary was a good accompaniment. Pleasant service.

Terrible service and food. Waited over an hour for food.

My friend hosted his birthday party here, in one of the private spaces. Food was great. Staff was lovely and knowledgable. I approached a random staff member about my friend’s booking and he directed me to the correct place immediately. When it came to the end of the booking, one of the staff members gave appropriate warning to let us know that our time was coming to an end. We had a great time as a group! Shoutout to Kevin, who was bartending and serving food for us. He was so friendly and accommodating.

Having recently had a good dinner here we were really disappointed with our Sunday lunch today. The service was poor (waitress was asked to bring extra gravy and forgot, no Yorkshire pudding with one dish when it was on the menu, and she had difficulty understanding simple requests) and the food was poor too: the rib of beef was mostly fat, and overcooked, and the vegetables were average. The cauliflower cheese was good however, as was the wine. The cheese board was derisory. So disappointed - and the bill for two came to £127 with one bottle of wine towards the lower part of the list, and one medium glass.

The unexpected floor show, (which was not advertised), was a mouse, pirouetting and tripping the light fantastic in the dining room. The staff, to whom this was reported, shrugged. Food just scraped into an 'average' rating. However, the visit took me back to my youth, when only crisps (with blue sachets of salt), scotch eggs, and pickled eggs were on offer in pubs. Ou sont les oefs ecossais d'antan ? Simpler days, simpler pubs, rather than the Phene Arms which has pretensions to adequacy. Avoid.

Great place for a private party

We were recommended this pub and went there on a Saturday evening. Although one of the dishes that I had wanted was no longer available the food we ordered was really good and well prepared. The service was faultless and we were made to feel welcome with a friendly team looking after us. Alas the atmosphere of the eating area is so noisy that as we were sitting opposite each other we had to shout. The noise from the dining groups who also have to scream at each other was made even more desperate as there was a loud speaker above our table blaring out the ghastly repetitious pop music that appears to be a part of any public establishment.. We may return in the summer when we can eat in the pub's garden.

Was there Saturday night for my daughters engagement party upstairs, Great atmosphere, nice room, but I was hungry, so popped downstairs for a quick snack, Ordered a cheese burger with no fries, not going to lie, it wasn't good..... It was the best burger I've had in years, Fabulous meat, lettuce, tomato, onion salsa, didn't fall apart when picked up, absolutely delicious, Great helpful staff, nice gastro pub near the river, even though I live in NW London, I will 100% be back to here with some mates for a bevvy and some great food, I highly recommend this place, Thanks

Go there for drinks. Everything else is not great value for money and the state of the place / cleanliness of the toilets make me question the hygiene of the staff and kitchen. Worst lemon sole I’ve ever see. and I thought it was the safest thing on the menu. It was poor quality and no fresh.

A week ago my daughter had her wedding reception in the upstairs room. The whole thing from initial enquiry to the big day was great, the staff are relaxed and helpful.the food was brilliant, most of our guests had beef wellington and raved about it. particular mention to waiter Kevin who really helped the day go smoothly. Would highly recommend The Phene for a wedding reception.

The pub has a nice feel, with friendly staff and a good atmosphere. However, we waited almost an hour for our food to be served. No one came to speak to us address this delay either (hence the 2 stars for service). When the food finally arrived, we were missing two items. The food was ok - the mains were not hot enough, the beef sirloin was tough, the roast potatoes were dried out and over cooked, as were the Yorkshire Puddings. Traditional Sunday Roast meat choices were limited, with no lamb or pork options, just chicken and 4 types of beef - with one of these already off the menu by the time we arrived at 2:15pm. They also didn't have any English Mustard, which seemed a bit of an oversight considering they had so much beef on the menu. Overall we were a disappointed, as we definitely had higher expectations of the venue and the food. Not the best pub roast experience, but not the worst either.

Delicious food, the whipped goats cheese with figs was my favourite! Montepulciano was a great quaffable wine also. Service was good.

Had the opportunity to try this place through work. The fish and scallops were delicious, showcasing the chef's skill. However, the bacon was a bit overcooked, which affected the overall dish. The service was fine, attentive but room for improvement. Overall, a good experience with potential for perfection.

I booked the Club Room on the second floor of this delightful Chelsea pub for a 75th birthday lunch for my wife. We were at maximum capacity (16), but, in addition to the lunch table, there is space there for everyone to mingle in the other half of the room over pre-lunch drinks. We were very well looked after by a young member of staff (Louis - I hope that I have spelled his name correctly!). We started with several bottles of Coates & Seely Brut NV English sparkling wine (£72) which was delicious and which accompanied our canapés. I had ordered three different canapés (£12 per head), of which I particularly enjoyed the smoked mackerel paté. For the meal, which I selected from the £50 per head event menu for January 2024, we had: * Crab benedict and poached egg on toasted muffin with seaweed dressing * Beef Wellington with clotted cream mash and green vegetable * English cheese selection with chutney and grapes All the courses were superb, especially the very rare beef! The chef must be particularly commended for having cooked the meat so perfectly! With our crab, we drank Martin Codax Albariño 2022 (£42) and with the beef we had Thelema Mountain Red 2020 (£35.50). One of our number was a non-meat eater and so the pub kindly produced a very generous fish pie for her, which was well received. We finished with a birthday cake, which we brought in ourselves (the pub made no charge for this), and coffee with chocolate truffles which cost an extra £5 per head. We had the Club Room for five hours from 1200 until 1700, which was ample, and I should like to thank everyone connected with The Phene for making the day such a success. The total bill, including a 12.5% service charge, came to £1,993.50 (ie. just under £125 per head) which I thought was very good value for what we had.

Sunday Roast very good. Staff polite and friendly. Would have been 5* but sticky toffee pudding wasn’t great, lacking the sticky stuff!!!

Roast must have been cooked the day before very tough, tired and fatty. Lucky day for my dog though who got it. Potatoes tasted powdery. Wouldn’t recommend for a roast.

Many people will love it, but it's not a traditional British pub. There was a security guy outside, who asked if we had a reservation. We didn't and although I said we were only going in for a drink, he insisted that he find us seats. No buying a drink, standing and waiting for seats to become available. In fact, it's all table service and their modus operandi is to set up a tab that you pay at the end, not conducive to buying rounds. It's also very expensive for a pub (£16.40.for a pint of Neck Oil and a glass of house white wine), but it is in Chelsea . Anyway, the staff are all pleasant and helpful, they have a pretty good range of beers and it's quite likely to serve good food. The garden looked like it would be pretty nice in summer (and clearly well used on a slightly damp December evening).

Consistently good menu and service. Cozy on a cold day and nice outdoor seating on a fine day. Atmosphere is local upscale. Can get lovely at night but never found it too noisy

The first time we visited The Phene was for our daughter's wedding reception, which was a perfect occasion. Since then we've come back for drinks and most recently six friends for mid week lunch. Every time the food has been fabulous and the reception extremely friendly. And I can highly recommend the Espresso Martini with Ginger as a desert!

Tolles Personal, super Küche, große Vielfalt, dazu noch richtig gemütlich. Leider kann man nur fünf Sterne vergeben, mehr wären verdient. Einer der schönsten Orte in London, an dem wir unsere Abende nach den London-Erkundungstour verbringen durften. Es gibt eine Bar, einen Restaurant-Teil, im Obergeschoß und/oder Außenbereich werden auch Feiern ausgerichtet. Ich war begeistert!

Great pub and friendly staff but very average sunday roast…. We got ONE fatty slice of beef, the greens were spouts (niche choice), and barely any gravy. We did request more gravy which finally came about 20 mins later once everyone had finished. Won’t be back in a hurry for food….

The service at The Phene is outstanding. Upon arrival, my friends and I were greeted warmly by the owner. I'd been to The Phene a month prior; the bartender remembered my order and offered me a free drink! The staff continually came to my table to tend to my friends and I. We ordered food ad hoc and it arrived promptly and was piping hot and delicious. Spending time at The Phene is a must...thanks so much to the team!

Attended a "day after the wedding" event in the private rooms upstairs on a Sunday lunchtime. Outstanding service, exceptional food (canapes served buffet style over several hours) and comfortable venue. Nothing was too much trouble and we were greeted immediately on arrival with an offer to carry our luggage upstairs.

Don’t bother. Often walked past, it looks interested so went in with my wife. It’s not really a pub though, no bar service, unwelcome, authoritarian and unfriendly staff. Poor choice of drinks. If your reading this and looking for a quality pub in the area go to The Surprise. It’s a really shame as this place portrays more quality than it’s worth.

I attended a private event. The quality of the food was good, some a bit poorly executed. Service was very slow so some of us needed to leave before dessert was served. Nice quiet location. Nice decor. Friendly and attentive staff.

I just came to this pub to a drink but loved this atmosphere and the service. We were delighted to get a table and enjoyed a drink and a chat on a Saturday night. Some people were watching a game but outdoors it was gorgeous and perfect to catch up. Service was amazing as well! Thank you!

We just wanted to share our fantastic experience having our wedding at The Phene in July. Everything was perfect from start to finish, and we couldn't have asked for a better day. We've received so many compliments from our family and friends about the excellent service, amazing staff, outstanding food, and generous portions. We had 42 people at our wedding lunch, and though it was a tight squeeze, the atmosphere was incredible! Jonathan and I give the entire experience a 10/10 and would love to relive it all again. A special mention goes to Sophia, who was exceptional throughout the event. We also want to praise Flo Jo Flowers for creating a dreamy ambiance in the room, which left everyone in awe. And of course, Gina Cakes did an excellent job with our wedding cake. Thank you for making our special day unforgettable!

Sadly my haloumi-pepper (changed for onions without being told) salad wasn't worth £21. The cheese was dry and the side that I selected (green beans) were way under cooked. I ordered a second glass of wine and some ice in a separate glass (to refresh the tap water on the table). After a few minutes, no trace of either glasses. We waved to a waiter and eventually got the wine but no ice. We felt forgotten as no one came to ask about our food, offered additional drinks or deserts. It was on a Friday for oj ch and the place wasn't near being full.

This place is SO beautiful. I attended as part of an event and the food was phenomenal, the service was super friendly and attentive and the venue is just stunning.

We came here for a Sunday lunch. The pub itself is lovely - a large and well decorated garden, and was nice inside too. The food was good. The burger and roast was highly rated, I found the vegetarian option nice although would have liked more variety on the menu. Would definitely go back!

Probably the least pubby pub ever. More akin to a restaurant. Pre booking is recommended as if you arrive late enough, it will be impossible to get in without a reservation. Thankfully, reservations are fairly easy to get over the phone or the website. Food is very good and drinks selection is also good too. Prices are very high for a "pub." Expect pints to be circa £7. Hiring a private entertainment space in the loft was quite good as we had all-night service, and the staff were very attentive.

Got a very nice garden table. Not pub atmosphere but definitely very pleasant afternoon. Delicious Dover sole at £31 was quite reasonable. Good size portion. Starter salad was fresh. We had Prosecco with lunch. The staff was very pleasant, attentive n efficient. Food is reasonably priced. Would certainly recommend it.

On another random return, fab!! Kevin is a proper Gent. Food is a very good standard for a "pub". Sunday roast great, not to keen on the skin-on roast potatoes. Don't change what's not broken, just trying to be different!! Will return.

Wow where do i start… The Phene is just phenomenal. The venue was so BEAUTIFUL all my guests were so impressed! I organised a bridal shower and we had 27 guests, it was the perfect size. I was stunned when i walked in, the pictures online dont do it justice (I recommend visiting!) it was a bright summers day and the natural light lit up the beautiful decor. The staff were SO HELPFUL they literally came to my car to help me bring all the decor in the venue. They were so kind and polite. We was allocated to staff members who helped me decorate, serve food and drinks. I couldn't have chosen a better venue. We opted for a 3 course set menu for £40 each - it was well worth it! Food tasted 5* we had no complaints! I definitely will be using The Phene for more future events!

Book the private room here and had great service but walked in twice since and treated like a piece of trash! The staff with the iPad absolutely think they are above everyone unnecessary attitude.

This is a delightful pub in the heart of Chelsea. Clean, tidy and well laid out. The staff gave us a friendly welcome when we arrived even though we hadn't booked. Service to our table was great and the staff appeared to know what they were talking about when they helped us choose a wine. A good choice of beers and wines are available and the garden is lovely. Not the cheapest of pubs, but this is Chelsea. Well worth a visit.

We held our wedding dinner in The Club Room. The food was outstanding with everyone devouring all of their meals . The waiter (Henry I believe ?) went out of his way to make sure nothing was too much trouble and really helped make the whole thing even more special. The garden was a lovely addition with a fantastic atmosphere. We will definately be returning

The Phene - absolutely terrible food. I was extremely disappointed both times I visited this restaurant: they served lumps of processed food, some of which was undercooked slightly, which was slathered in some sort of filthy, watery sauce or dressing. For kids, the Fried Fish was supposed to be a ‘perfect kids meal,’ but really, it was just an enormous lump of fish still with skin, and it was dry and held very little flavor. It was immediately clear that this was not a freshly-caught, luxury fish: more like a lump of processed, edited fish, which no longer had the juicy quality of regular fish: instead, it was just overly chewy and overall obnoxious. The service was equally horrific: both times I visited The Phene, employees delivered dishes up to an hour after we ordered: somehow, this terrible food takes a long time to cook. Moreover, the food was excessively expensive. Total bills added up to extremely high amounts, with pointless additional fees like ‘Service Charge’ - there was barely any service, so it was quite unfair. The atmosphere was pretty nice, however - it’s laid out in a pub-style, with decorations and a bar, and also has a ‘secret garden’ dining space, which allows customers to enjoy the outdoors (even in the Winter, as there are heaters). But, if you’re deciding which restaurant to dine at, and if you’re trying to get delicious food and a good deal, the Phene is not the right place to come to.

Didn't eat was checking out wedding reception venues. Found the perfect one here, just off the Kings Rd but very secluded.10/10

Lovely bar in Chelsea. Stopped off for a glass of wine before heading to Hyde Park. Bar staff were excellent and prices not outrageous for the area.

We had our wedding lunch at the oakly room, the whole day was amazing, food is extremly delicious and staff is real well presented super friendly, had no negative comments about the whole experience i just want to say a big big thank you for such an amazin day and decroartions were impresively well set up. Again.... big big big thank you to all of you!

This review is for the bouncer. Best. Bouncer. Ever. Drinks, food and service were great too. And not too posh for the area :)
