The Pheasant in Bridgend

Came with family post burial. Excellent service, Good food. Good value. Lovely warm atmosphere. Will definitely book again. Highly recommend.

On arrival we were shown to a table just inside the main door, we are both in our eighties and requested a less draughty location, we were then shown to a table next to the door leading to the toilets, we did not think this suitable and asked for a table nearby which we felt was, but was told it was reserved, at the end of our stay, approx. 1HR later this table was still unoccupied. Our meals were satisfactory but we felt very little effort was made to satisfy our polite and modest requests.

Four of us went to the Pheasant for Sunday lunch, and despite having the same menu as the Rose and Crown in Nottage a handful of miles away, there was a gaping chasm in difference, both in terms of quality of food and service. The staff were grouchy cleaning up, muttering under their breath, a table where two children had dropped food and crayons on the floor, whilst the entitled, carefree parents didn't bother to do any parenting. (Stay at home if you won't be decent human beings) The starters came but left much to desire; the baked lamb koftas were overcooked, bland-tasting, and came with an over-abundance of greens dumped on top of the dish. "Sprinkling on top" seems to have an alien meaning to this kitchen staff. For my main, I ordered a trio of meats dinner which, when served, was even smaller than the three single-meat dinners that my table buddies ordered. Triple the meat for a quarter of the quantity... Whereas the "sprinkling" of greens on my starter was an exaggeration, the gravy on my plate looks to have gone through a drought period. We had to ask for an extra gravy boat, yet that barely got the four of us through. And when it finally came to dessert, we were informed that they were out of Biscoff biscuits, when they could've just gone to a nearby store to replenish stock and expense it, so we had to order the chocolate brownie sundae. Did they redeem themselves with this? Well, only partly. When it finally came out, there was one piece of brownie on the top, and then just ice cream the rest through. Call me picky, but I like my Sundaes with the main ingredient both on top and part-way through. The brownie here was a mere topping than a key component of this well-established dessert. The service, as touched upon earlier, was sporadic and distanced, and left us waiting for 30-odd minutes between ordering to service. And we had 3-4 staff to take our orders and serve. Would I go again? Not for food, no. For a drink and a social, sure.

The staff and the venue were absolutely superb yesterday , we reserved the function room for a wake, the buffet was perfect, great quality and plenty of it, the kitchen staff even provided some containers for "take home" ....facilities. The pub itself has always been a real Gem, a great pint, great atmosphere......wish I could give 6 stars xxx ...Good work the Pheasant ...xxx

Very helpful staff, food was lovely. The only thing that left my group of 6 disappointed was the fact that there was not a lot of choice of pies despite having several on the menu. It would have been helpful to have been informed of this when we were given the menus.

We were shown to our seats by a very friendly staff member, and he immediately asked if we would like a drink and she would bring it over. We did indeed order drinks and they were actually brought over by a different but also very lovely staff member. The food choice was great and once the order was taken we did not have long to wait for the food which I have to say was above the standard of normal 'pub grub'. It was very enjoyable indeed and good value too.

We have visited The Pheasant twice now , and on both occasions have been really surprised how good the food is. We would thoroughly recommend The Pheasant and infact have already passed on the news to our family

Expected better. Disappointed part of main course not available and not told until after starter. Had to rush to order alternative from the menu. Alternative poor quality. Also wine wanted to order out of stock. Staff friendly. Overall, felt it was overpriced for basic pub grub.

The food was delicious and such great value for money. The staff were attentive and friendly which just added to the experience. I would definitely recommend and will definitely be visiting again!

Good service and excellent food

Really love stopping at the Phesant for a pint or coffee after a walk out to Pen-y-fai. Really decent size with lots of tables, friendly staff and quick service. Choice of beers is fine, coffee was above average for a pub. Haven't tried the food yet but it looks good.

Had an awesome night with friends

Friends visiting us wanted to take us for a meal and we suggested The Pheasant as we'd not been there for quite a while, despite living locally. The food was very good and the service was relaxed and natural. The young waitress had a lovely tableside manner and the guy, possibly the landlord, was also very good. The wife and I have vowed to return soon for lunch.

Really pleasant visit. Staff were great and in good spirits. It was steak and wine night but opted for main menu and thoroughly enjoyed! Food was great, presented well and very tasty! Used blue light discount with no issues. Visited with family from Australia who thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Thanks!

Having not visited the Pheasant for some time I was very pleased with the reception from staff who made us feel very welcome. The food was excellent, presented well with suitably warm plates for hot food. Cutlery was clean and the table setting was attractive to look at. Our seating position was good and the room was well decorated for the time of year. Only downside was no crumble for dessert but we enjoyed the desserts we did choose. All in all a very good experience on New Years Eve which started the festivities really well.

Drinks order got lost so had to wait, food was ok but I ordered the same as the previous visit but it came out burned and not the same at all. I did complain but did get money off my bill for it. Which was very gratefully received

Was very dissapointed gravy was not home made prob bisto awful parsnips not roasted enough couldn't cut roasties or yorkshire puddings so dissapointed after the price.staff were great.

Nice place, nice food and nice staff

The staff were lovely and the food delicious. Even when there were product shortages or one drink slightly delayed, the service was still fabulous due to the lovely engagement. Even took a pic of us at the Xmas tree. Diolch, we will be back 😊

We had the festive meal it was OK but nothing special..the sea bass was tasty but the presentation was poor. It was served in a bowl and there were just pieces of white fish and a mush of vegetables..my friend enjoyed her nut roast. desserts were very good and service was with a smile overall good just slightly disappointed with the fish meal overpriced for what it was .

Absolutely lovely place, heard a lot about it but never been. Food was excellent and so was the service. Will definitely return.

We had a Christmas get together and it was fabulous. The pheasant was decorated well and the staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. We chose from the normal menu (not Christmas) and it was great. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. The portion sizes were just right and it was very good value for money.

The staff were so welcoming and friendly. We ordered our meals and they were delicious. The Pheasant was busy and had a lovely festive atmosphere. The venue, staff and overall experience was superb and provided excellent value for money.

Poor. Table service only. Not enough attention paid to customers. Only managed to get 2 drinks served to our table in 4 hrs! Server's were sullen with their interactions and food was less than mediocre.

Overall brilliant experience here. Jacob (senior management) provided amazing service and was very friendly! We will be coming back!!

The food was lovely and everyone thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were friendly and accommodate a birthday on the table too. They checked on us throughout the meal and everyone was happy. Would definitely recommend here to friends and family.

Excellent food with very friendly staff.

It's the first time we came here and the staff with very friendly. Nice lady show me, Mum and my Aunit were to sit down but for me, it was very claustrophobiac as too many things around us like the glass window wall with things in it which was nice but for me it made me feel very claustrophobic. So we asked if we could be moved somewhere else, we were placed by the window and much open area which was brilliant. The food was really nice but it was a bit pricey but worth it. My Aunit has Chilli con carne but it was too hot even for me as we only like very mild chilli so asking for cod and chips instead which was lovely and crispness but wasn't keen on tartar sauce as had bits in it wasn't sure what it was but i did eating also had really nice peas. Mum had gammon, egg, chuck pineapples, and chips, which my mum really enjoyed. My Mum, Aunit had really nice fruity crumble with custard and i had chocolate pudding with really nice ice cream. All the food was just right size not too big but did find my pudding was just bit too much so as think it need to be bit small as it's was bit too sweet for me but i still enjoying it. We would come again. Everything look clean.

We were a big party of 16 for a leaving doo. Starters came out pretty much exactly when we had agreed. Mains were a big staggered but understandable on a busy Friday evening. Waiting staff were very friendly and bar staff very helpful paying for 16 separate meals.

Went there with friends last evening, great food & service,Geraint our waiter couldn't do enough for us,i think Lizzie the landlady should look after him and the other staff they're credit to the pub.

Low quality. Over cooked. The best bit of the meal was the peas. No one asked how our meal was. They avoided us once they had brought the food out as if they knew.

After a long wait.. £13 for this. I would of been ashamed to send it out of the kitchen. Come on Brains/Marston this is not acceptable..

Stayed overnight close by and had an evening meeting close by. Went in at 4.45pm Friday. Very surprised by it in a good sense, great friendly welcome table and environment clean and well maintained. Service great, for a chain pub this was exceptional. Well done to all the staff.

Our first visit to the pheasant after lockdown. It was lovely to see Lizzy and the staff still doing an amazing job. The food was excellent as usual, we can highly recommend the big brains burger, butter milk chicken and the cauliflower bites are to die for.

Nice food, relaxed placed. 2 for £13 2 course dinners after 5pm Carparking. Nice big beer garden you can eat in and a small outdoor play area for kids.

Today we had a fabulous Sunday lunch at the Pheasant, the Roast platter was outstanding. We often go to the Pheasant for a treat and we are never disappointed.The staff are always friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them and it puzzles me the criticism of the Landlady? As someone who worked in the catering environment albeit military and in the circles that the utmost professionalism was required the staff at the pheasant would have been welcome on my team.Would most definitely recommend the Pheasant.

I appreciate all venues are experiencing difficulties post covid, but the service we received tonight and the quality of food was terrible. The staff forgot half our order. We had to chase down multiple drinks and side dishes. The landlady has the attitude of “ she’s doing you a favour “ - not one single thank you or manners. My steak and my partners was not cooked to order, the children’s meal were inedible. When we asked them to follow up on the meals, we were met with annoyance. The other family we were with also experienced the same problem. To add insult to injury - no toilet paper and no soap on the toilets! Come on ! Really? £15 for a steak when the quality is 1/10? …. No thanks!

We were four adults however my mum has dementia and didn’t want to eat. We choose a meal from the children’s menu and there was no problem with that. We ordered drinks and our meal. The drinks were served immediately. The food was delicious and plentiful. The staff made us feel very safe during this difficult time yet we still enjoyed ourselves. We were served by staff at the table, nothing was too much trouble and without being on top of you there was always someone on hand if you needed anything. Excellent signage showing you the one way system and again there was a member of staff advising people of this as they stood up from their table. We will definitely be visiting again.

First visit post-Covid & it was lovely. Great arrangements in place, used the app to order, food was tasty, atmosphere was lovely and relaxed. Using the app is good as we took our time to make room for desert! Would prefer an option to leave a tip on the app, we couldn’t find one. Luckily had cash but would’ve felt awful had we not been able to leave one.

What a hidden gem , visited this pub with the wife for food and drink , and from the moment we arrived to the moment we left , everything went great , the food was nice , the staff were friendly , and even their new ordering system was pretty straight forward to download and use to , will happily come back again , thank you :)

My wife and I have visited this pub for a couple of lunches this month and on both occasions it was great. They have pulled out all the stops to ensure the safety of all the guests and staff while still maintaining a cosy atmosphere. The Food is the Standard Brains pub menu which is quite extensive and on both occasions the food arrived well presented and hot.We will most definitely be booking again soon.

Sunday take away lunch was outstanding. Large portions good quality food. Excellent service and Covid awareness from staff. Will definitely order again.

We’ve been visiting the pheasant for 13 years, in this visit it was possibly the best food we’ve had in those 13 years. The app was extremely easy and efficient that in combination with the usual friendly staff who have gone to extra measures to ensure we were all safe and complying to COVID guidelines whilst enjoying and feeling at ease.

Called in for a couple of drinks with the wife, planned to stay for couple of hours but being of an older age couldn't get the app to work for me. We were helped by a friendly member of staff to order first drink but was left to our own for next round of drinks, we just couldn't get it to work, so we left. Are you really prepared to lose a good few drinks because of this app. We are not all app friendly.

Decided to try the father's day takeaway. Absolutely brilliant. Choice was only beef or Turkey but everything was excellent. Lovely choice of veg all cocked perfectly. All the trimmings.

Brought here by friends who are local to cheer us up after rugby was cancelled. Staff were friendly and attentive and the meals were lovely. Not pricey but best booking in advance or online as the place did get really busy around 7pm. Will def be back next time we’re in Bridgend

Visited recently with friends ,wife had vegetarian curry which she said was nice ,both men went for steak & ale pie when they arrived there was about 6 chips on each plate ! If it was busy I would have Maybe realised but it was far from it with staff leaning on the Bar chatting away. Won't be rushing back.

Called in today to finish off my birthday celebrations. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. The food is always well presented. I was treated to the mixed grill which to be fair was a beast of a meal, I asked for it to be cooked medium and that's exactly what I had absolutely beautiful

First visit here and will certainly be returning. Very friendly staff, white wine was very palatable. Lasagne was a good sized homemade portion, very tasty.

This is a very busy place, which can result in long wait for food. The food is the usual chain restaurant type of meals ' mostly from the freezer and micro. Plus side is , it's not to expensive and the staff are very helpful

Although we are regular visitors to 'our local' for meals, we have never experienced lunch at the Pheasant on Christmas Day. Our table was booked for half past one, which we were excorted to straight away when we arrived. Drinks were served at our table and were promptly followed by our first course. Every aspect of the experience today was lovely, from the food which was extremely tasty and plentiful down to the usual welcome from Lizzy and staff. Thank you everyone.

Older generation of family met for annual pre-Christmas lunch. Good variety of menu choices, all food delicious and plentiful. Particularly pleased with the generous vegetable dishes. Service perfect. Will definitely return.

Came here for a quick meal in the night. It was lovely. Classic pub atmosphere which I liked, comfy seats and lovely staff. I had the hunters chicken and it was amazing, just enough to fill me. They have an amazing dressing on the salads and I loved it!! It has really good food as my whole family enjoyed with no complaints and really good prices, it’s local to me so I will definitely be coming back to try other things on the menu. Would recommend for a classic pub meal.

Husband had really succulent rack of ribs and I had rump steak, really good quality beef, very tasty and cooked perfectly. Always receive the warmest of welcomes, the staff really make us feel special. How lucky are we to live in this lovely village with a great pub on our doorstep!

The atmosphere in the pheasant is absolutely beautiful and the food is amazing with no exceptions. The tartar sauce made my mouth party and I had two servings of the masterpiece. I recommend this humble restaurant for anyone with tastebuds

Had dinner with some friends on a Friday night, the place was packed with some functions/parties on as well. Good job we had booked a table. Food was nice, took ages to come (we were advised when we ordered), waited a while for drinks as well, could have done with more staff.

This is a great pub in a great location with a fantastic beer garden, play park for kids, plenty of car parking space and a big playing field to the side. The food is sometimes hit and miss and they do have a limited menu on a sunday. Overall good place to meet with friends or to take family for a meal or a drink. There is also a function room available for hire

Recommended to come here as it was within walking distance of the place we were staying......it was well worth the walk! Nice selection of Brains beers, menu typical of the Brains houses, but the daily special of faggots wrapped in bacon was amongst the best faggot dish we have ever eaten. Slightly smaller portions than in some places, but as we had a really tasty nachos cheese and bacon starter to share, this wasn’t a problem. Waitress forgot our request for mustard, but was so apologetic and honest about her error, that we went away with a smile.

5 star experience! Threw a 1st birthday party here today, from booking all the way through to end of event today, the service we received was wonderful.

We visited after a shopping trip to McArthurGlen. Firstly we noticed how busy the car park was and were lucky to find a parking space (which is always a good sign). When entering the Pheasant it was very busy and we were lucky that a table was available without having to book. Looking at the menu I was not impressed, I am a Vegetarian and not keen on Halloumi or beetroot burgers, although there was a Vegetarian curry on the menu too. I was happy to see on the special board there was a Vegetarian lasagne, so I ordered that and was not disappointed, it was very nice. We were a family of 3 and all enjoyed our meals. There was a lovely atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. We will be definitely visiting again :-)

Had the American burger which comes with American mustard, smoky bacon and cheese. It was delicious, my problem is that you pay £10 and all you get is the burger and the smallest portion of chips I think I’ve ever seen, it was nothing short of insulting, for the price. It’s was the size of a child’s meal at other places. You also get a small tub of coleslaw and a gherkin on a stick (the gherkin was lovely too) but no salad or other garnish.

My partner and I called in for lunch as I have family living in the village. The staff are really pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. My partner had Scampi and I had a Burger which were both tasty. This place is well worth a visit and we'll definitely be back.
