Absolutely outstanding experience. The staff were friendly, welcoming and polite. The food was impeccable. We had the lamb, which was pink, seasoned well, and a really good cut. My husband had the beef pie, which was rich, filling and went down a treat. We had a cocktail and beer, which were tasty and well priced. The desserts were luxurious, presented well and just the right size. We will certainly be back! Thank you for such a lovely evening! Our daughter had a lovely time

I’ve been to the pheasant once before, years ago and remembering it being nice. My partner has never been. We went shopping in Bridgend and wanted to stop for food somewhere on the way home and went to Ty-Risha as it’s on the way home and we’ve always enjoyed our food there. We went in and apparently they only serve food after 5 now. So I knew there was 2 other brains brewery pubs nearby that served food and I opted for the pheasant as I remember it being lovely the last time and plus it’s somewhere my partner has never been. The area is lovely, the pub was lovely, the man and woman behind the bar were really nice and welcoming but the food shocked me. It was absolutely beautiful food, a really good menu. Will definitely go more often

We recently visited The Pheasant in Bridgend for the first time, and what a lovely experience it was! Though we’re not locals – we drove 40 minutes down the M4 as we were attending a workshop in the area and needed somewhere for dinner – we’re so glad we chose this charming pub. It’s the perfect spot for a cozy Sunday afternoon. The pub has quaint little areas to sit, giving it a relaxed, intimate atmosphere where you can enjoy a meal without overhearing others' conversations. Both my mum and I opted for the roast, and it was absolutely delicious, with generous portions that left us completely satisfied. We couldn’t resist finishing with pudding, especially given the tempting selection on offer. The food was top-notch, and the whole experience was made even better by the incredibly welcoming staff who made us feel like regulars right from the moment we stepped inside. Although we're not local, this pub is definitely worth the drive, and we'd happily return the next time we’re in the area. Highly recommended!

It was Christmas Day, and all in our house were in need of a pint at the local ale house. Their website said open but when we arrived we were greeted with sneers and were gently derid(ed). Sorry, can't keep that up! Basically, Christmas Day we needed a break from the kids and as the pub looked open, we went in around 3.30pm for some escape. Unfortunately, they told us they weren't serving in the bar past 3pm, and only with food in the restaurant until 5pm. When I asked for a table for three, nine lagers and a packet of crisps they didn't even laugh. But it was Christmas Day after all, so I bear no ill will! Lovely place, lovely staff, usually very welcoming!

Updated review (August 2024): So, a few months since our last visit, and it seems like the nice weather brightened everyone's spirits. The food was better, service was a lot more positive and staff were accommodating. Much better than previous, for sure! First review (March 2024): Four of us went to the Pheasant for Sunday lunch, and despite having the same menu as the Rose and Crown in Nottage a handful of miles away, there was a gaping chasm in difference, both in terms of quality of food and service. The staff were grouchy cleaning up, muttering under their breath, a table where two children had dropped food and crayons on the floor, whilst the entitled, carefree parents didn't bother to do any parenting. (Stay at home if you won't be decent human beings) The starters came but left much to desire; the baked lamb koftas were overcooked, bland-tasting, and came with an over-abundance of greens dumped on top of the dish. "Sprinkling on top" seems to have an alien meaning to this kitchen staff. For my main, I ordered a trio of meats dinner which, when served, was even smaller than the three single-meat dinners that my table buddies ordered. Triple the meat for a quarter of the quantity... Whereas the "sprinkling" of greens on my starter was an exaggeration, the gravy on my plate looks to have gone through a drought period. We had to ask for an extra gravy boat, yet that barely got the four of us through. And when it finally came to dessert, we were informed that they were out of Biscoff biscuits, when they could've just gone to a nearby store to replenish stock and expense it, so we had to order the chocolate brownie sundae. Did they redeem themselves with this? Well, only partly. When it finally came out, there was one piece of brownie on the top, and then just ice cream the rest through. Call me picky, but I like my Sundaes with the main ingredient both on top and part-way through. The brownie here was a mere topping than a key component of this well-established dessert. The service, as touched upon earlier, was sporadic and distanced, and left us waiting for 30-odd minutes between ordering to service. And we had 3-4 staff to take our orders and serve. Would I go again? Not for food, no. For a drink and a social, sure.

Starters were chicken and burnt. I had Hunters chicken the chicken breast had been sliced in half had 1 piece of bacon on it , very little sauce 12 chips and a pike of off salad leaves. My partner had Lasagne clearly microwave prepared dangerously hot, cold fries as a side. My daughter had cheese and leek pie again dangerously hot clearly microwave prepared. Cold veg and rock had dry mash, bisto gravy. The portion of the main chicken had clearly been cut and probably been used to get a portion of tenders. £6 a pint....What a rip off never coming back same review on all social food rating outlets

Went there tonight with a party of 16 for a 3 year olds birthday. A specific server decided to come over and belittle my partner in front of the entire party in a very rude and demeaning manner, all over an ashtray not being used outside. Which it was packed outside and he didn’t want to insert himself upon someone else’s table. Now fair enough to pull him to the side and say, please use an ashtray, but she decided to talk rather loudly and rudely in front of everyone who stopped to listen and were massively shocked at her attitude. When called out on her behaviour in a private setting, she continued to be rude and try to justify her actions. Then blamed the boss, saying she was told to say so. I’m sure her boss did not tell her to come across as aggressively rude though. This put such a negative feeling towards a 3 year olds party. Will not be returning here after this kind of ‘hospitality’.

Awful experience. Worst ever. Ordered starters, was half-way through when the mains arrived. Sent them back, they appeared again, sent them back then a manager came out to inform us that we had the choice of leaving them to go cold on the table or in the kitchen and that we would not be getting anything to replace it. Apparently the mains are prepared the moment the starters are served without anyone checking the starters are finished!!! We left and my friend is still waiting for the reimbursement of the mains. I actually wrote a report years ago regarding food safety which involved contacting scientists, etc. to get the rundown on hygiene with regard to re- heating food, etc. I ordered a chicken pie - when heating up pies you are advised to make sure the food is piping hot, and it should not be reheated. They offered to reheat it in a microwave. I have had food poisoning 7 times so am very cautious with how food is prepared, etc. I shall be contacting the Food Standards Agency regarding this.

Lovely little place however my Wife asked for no Hot Honey Sauce on the burger and it came with both hot honey sauce and a burger sauce that wasn’t listed in the menu, so it had to be sent back. I sat there with my food, and she had to wait a further 15 minutes or so before her new burger came out which was so dry, she could barely eat it, and the fries had clearly just been put back in the fryer so they too were overdone and dry. My mixed grill was overcooked, and the steak was a chunk of fatty, grissly meat. Whilst the staff were quite quick in seating and serving us, the bar staff were young, and fooling around. The young lad actually threw a bottle cap at one of the other staff there, but it missed her and hit the table behind. Thankfully nobody was sat there but they should be concentrating on their customers not messing around. Wouldn’t return.

Disappointed at The Pheasant: A Disheartening Dining Experience My recent visit to The Pheasant left me extremely underwhelmed and disheartened. Having booked a table for four at 5 PM—two adults and two children under 7—I had hoped for a pleasant family meal. Initially, the waiting staff were attentive, swiftly taking our food and drink orders. However, twenty minutes later, they returned with a caution: a buffet for a function was causing a delay of about five minutes for our meals. Five minutes turned into fifty, and in that extended waiting period, none of the staff checked in with us or offered additional drinks. It was only after I inquired at the bar that our food miraculously appeared—simultaneously with the dishes of a couple who had ordered merely twenty minutes prior. Now, if you're still with me, let me tell you: the food was not worth the wait. Most of it arrived lukewarm, suggesting it had been sitting out for those forty minutes. The dishes were bland and did not match their menu descriptions. The "skin-on fries" were just regular fries, the halloumi kebab consisted of three measly thin slices, and the chicken kebab had only three tiny portions of chicken, each barely larger than a fingernail. We refrained from complaining, as the opportunity never arose. After delivering our food, the staff didn't return until thirty minutes later to check on us. By that time, we were ready to leave. It's a shame because the pub area appeared inviting, with a nice ambiance and ample outdoor space. However, if you decide to visit, I strongly advise you to steer clear of the food. We certainly won't be returning.

The servers didn't really engage with our table, not even checking to see if we wanted more drinks etc. Waited nearly an hour for our mains, they said they thought we still had starters ( we only had 1 starter, a bowl of olives !). Food was only warm on arrival so cold by the time we finished eating. The Sunday Roast portions were good but the seabass was a very small portion. Puddings we're nice. Won't visit again for food.

Absolutely lovely place, heard a lot about it but never been. Food was excellent and so was the service. Additionally a lovely function room is out the back and perfect for groups to meet. Will definitely return.

Me and my partner came here for a Sunday roast, not realising they served carvery, which we were kindly surprised by. The prices were decent enough, as what you'd expect at a carvery on a Sunday. My only gripe was that we couldn't help ourselves to the roasties/new potatoes, just the other veg, but it's fine either way The food was lovely and tasty and we really enjoyed it. The service was amazing and very friendly. We will definitely come back here again in the future for another sunday roast and other meals

Lovely pub! Land ladies are really nice! Good atmosphere, they have live music and they run a cracking open mic night once a month!
