Very underwhelming afternoon tea experience. Sandwiches, scones and sweets were all very mediocre at best and some were not edible. Would not recommend, especially for the price.

When it comes to dining, Petersham Hotel does not disappoint. The ground floor restaurant offers a delightful dining experience with its impeccable interior design and panoramic views of the river. the exceptional service provided by Mr. Umit Eruyar, the manager of the restaurant. His attentiveness and professionalism truly enhanced our dining experience. I had the pleasure of indulging in their breakfast menu, which included a classic English breakfast and perfectly crafted Eggs Benedict. For Father's Day, we were treated to an exceptional dinner. The Minted Lamb Croquette and Crispy Duck Salad were delightful starters, followed by the delectable Chicken Supreme and Pan-Fried Sea Trout as our main courses. To end the meal on a sweet note, I opted for the heavenly Apple Pie. Highly recommend this restaurant nick #doctorfoodielondon

This is a very special place. The views are beautiful, the welcome warm, and there is great service and excellent food. Over time, the staff have become like friends and the Petersham restaurant a space that we want to share and enjoy and relax in with family and friends. Today, we had another of these special days. Umit took such great care to make sure we had a reservation. Atan looked after us from the moment we arrived until our leaving, and my guests, from USA And Australia, so enjoyed meeting him and they send their special thanks for all his thoughtfulness and kindness. I've eaten in many restaurants in many different parts of the world, but the Petersham is the one that we always want to return to. Thank you, especially Umit, Atan and your wonderful team. A great bunch of people.

My wife and myself - together with two US visitors - had lunch earlier today at the Petersham Hotel - a 20 minute walk (or even shorter drive) from Richmond Town Centre. We had booked a late lunch slot for 1430 hours (last serving is 1445 hours when some of Afternoon Patrons start arriving) and we’re very pleased to be shown to a nice window table. Well worth requesting as the Restaurant has great view of both the Thames and surrounding countryside. We all opted for the set/fixed lunch menu (excellent value at £32.50 & £36.50 for 2 & 3 courses respectively). For my part, I thoroughly enjoyed my Octopus Starter, Pork Cheek Main (together with a spinach side order) and 3 ice cream scoop (Chocolate, Coffee & Vanilla)) desert. All accompanied by first rate service from start to finish. All in all, a most enjoyable lunch - one I (and I suspect all 3 of my dining companions) would gladly repeat.

Visited today for my wife’s birthday and enjoyed a lovely breakfast, with a stunning view of the famous “bend in the river” . The breakfast was cooked to order, using beautiful fresh ingredients. This means it was served hot , not warm and going cold , as experienced in other places. Nothing was too much trouble and an important mention here for Atan, who paid special attention to my wife’s special occasion. Thank you for making her start to the day so memorable - you can’t ask for more.

Had a wonderful Sunday lunch at the Petersham restaurant. Service was exceptional, everything done to perfection down to a tee and the food/ drink was even better. We all had quite a variety which was nice to taste the majority. The smoked salmon comes on a trolley and is sliced at the table which is a lovely touch…the place has such a relaxed atmosphere and you just enjoy the views and wonderful tasty dishes! I had the salmon with celeriac which was cooked to perfection. Finished off with a desert. Had to choose again so we had a selection and tasted the majority! Thanks so much to Umit who is wonderful and made us feel so welcome. I’m sure we will be back!!

Extremely disappointing experience in this tired looking hotel/restaurant that seems to be surviving on its past glory of famous visitors and amazing location. It was our first visit and certainly will be the last. Booked dinner to celebrate our anniversary, food was average and bland with limited choice menu. Some items came out undercooked and some cold, staff were trying their best to provide good service but this could not compensate for the food experience and the "tired/run down feel of the place".

From the first contact with Chris to the lunch on the day it was a first class experience. Birthday lunch for 9 in the semi-private 'alcove' area off the main dining area. The food was excellent and service very attentive. They have a good balance of being formal but not stuffy. For £55 for 3 courses and lots of delicious bread, given the atmosphere, sense of occasion view and impeccable service I think it was good value - probably also because our drink consumption was quite modest and it is always the drinks that push up the bill in any restaurant. Nice touch of a candle in the pudding and a birthday card from the Hotel. Definitely would recommend for a celebration meal in a lovely location!

For over 20 years it has been a tradition for our family to have lunch at The Petersham Hotel restaurant to celebrate my Mothers birthday (97 this year!). The setting is fabulous, the food excellent and on a beautiful summers day it is the perfect place for a celebration. Alas, not so anymore. I can forgive them for the challenge of working through a power cut, but not for the appalling service, not due to a lack of staff, but due to the fact that they just stood around talking instead of doing their job and waiting tables. We had to ask, for bread, a wine list and then to order the wine, my daughter cleared the plates because the staff were too engrossed in conversation. Due to the power cut the food we had preordered was not available. The maitr’d decided at 15.30 it was time for him to go home and we were told that there was no deserts! The worst of it all, the restaurant was not even half full! We had two courses that took over two hours! How sad that I am writing this review following many years of happy memories.

The staff were attentive and the afternoon tea was really delicious. It was my husband's birthday and half way through the tea, a plate was delivered with truffles, chocolate soil, a candle in a strawberry and 'Happy Birthday' written in chocolate. What a lovely thoughtful addition to the tea. Everything was fresh and the cakes, delicious. I know it isn't cheap but can't recommend it enough for a special occasion. Thank you!

We only had breakfast here when we stayed over for two nights. The first day the breakfast was excellent service and the food was great. The second day, a Saturday, Breakfast was later and it was much busier. The Restaurant seemed disorganised, we were seated second in the restaurant but then, as we were sat away from everyone else as my husband was in a wheelchair we seemed to be left. More and more people started coming in and they were being served with drinks and we were left. Eventually the young lady who had served us the first morning came to offer us drinks, I asked to order food, but she said she could only do drinks, I had overheard a waiter called Daniel telling her only do drinks and not take any food orders. She said her colleague would take our food order. When she returned with the drinks I explained that no one had been to take our order and that my husband needed to take medication with food. He takes it at 8.00 am and we hadn't realised the Breakfast service was later that morning, so we had been up a while. My husband, who has Parkinsons, had started a tremor as he needed food and his meds. She immediately asked for our food order to be taken and organised toast to come out to us. Once again she was excellent, it was a shame the other staff weren't half as good, as the food was great also.

Complained and they explained no staff. They bought bread and butter with first course and it was frozen could not put knife in it. I agree with review by Pinochet in May. The restaurant is delightful but in the direct sunshine it can get very hot, especially if you have a window table. There is air conditioning but I think it needs attention. It came on rarely and when it did it was such a relief. Given this is an expensive restaurant that prides itself on a exemplary experience and I urge management to look at this issue.

Five of us came for afternoon tea. We were seated at a corner table with a fantastic view of the river. It would have been every so nice were it not for the fact that it was a very warm day in May, the first sunny days for almost a month. The panoramic windows couldn't be opened and so it was a bit like having afternoon tea in a greenhouse. Rather a pity, as my guests had to swap seats a few time so the one person wouldn't get "stuck" there and suffer from heat stroke. The warmth also had very unfortunate effects on the beautiful cakes. They simply melted in the heat. By the time we ate our sandwiches and scones, the cakes were looking decidedly sad. They still tasted lovely, but somewhat warm. Only the fruit cake survived intact. The sandwiches and scones were nice enough. We could have done with more sandwiches to be honest. The filling was on the thin side, dainty I suppose. The jam came in tiny jars, like what you would get in a B&B, which was slightly disappointing. They could have spoon the same jam from a large catering jar into some fine porcelain dishes and we would have been none the wiser and felt much more special. The setting was unbeatable and lovely to have tea in nice china cups and sat at a table with a nice table cloth. The service was unobtrusive, bordering on being ignored. It was such a warm day and the waiter, a very polite and helpful one, only topped up our water once. All in all, it was enjoyable. It was lovely to be able to socialise with friends again. The views were lovely. But the afternoon tea itself wasn't quite wonderful enough to score more than a good average; 3.5 stars. I wouldn't say no to going back for tea again, though.

We were invited by some friend's of ours that often stay at this hotel for special occasions. The staff here are really a credit and always attentive to your specific requirements. A good choice of Starter courses, I wanted to try something different and had the Chicken Liver Parfait. What a delightful dish! Very light in texture and the though very rich, it wasn't over powering in taste.Main course; sirloin steak (asked for rare) and arrived medium cooked. Not a problem, as each bite just melted in my mouth. On behalf of my friend's who had Starters such as, prawn cocktail, which went down a treat and the other Starter, was the smoked salmon...Oh yes, I will certainly be choosing the salmon next time! Two of my friends had the lamb cutlets, plus lamb rump steak. Unbelievably disappointed in visit to the Petersham restaurant today for our anniversary. Have been many times in the past and it has always been wonderful. Sadly the fantastic a la carte menu has now been replaced by "All Day Dining ". Basically pizza, burgers, pasta etc.which you could get anywhere. Worse still the food wasn't even very good and most of it was clearly just microwaved. We weren't told of the change when booking or when confirming the reservation and theres no way we would have gone there for our anniversary if we had known.

Decor, location, view and service are great! However the most important thing is the food when you go out to eat right. We ordered the vegan burger for dinner. Terrible. We've eaten probably 30 different veggie n vegan burgers over the years and this was by far the worst. Its a slice tomato, lettuce and an uncooked mushroom in a slimy bap. You bite it and it all pops out of the bun. I eventually gave up.If you think that's worth £20 come here!

We had a nice afternoon tea here. There was a bit of a misunderstanding as I had asked for an outside table as I was bringing older relatives who had been shielding. It turns out that you can't eat outside. All the tables near the windows were taken and they can't open the windows. Still we had a nice table reasonably away from other people and the service was friendly and welcoming. The afternoon tea was fine - scones were a bit dry. The good thing is that you don't have to pay for one each but you can share an afternoon tea - this is helpful when you are bringing people who don't eat very much. Overall we had an enjoyable time. There is plenty of parking (register your car) and nice views.

My in-laws had booked for our family to go to the Petersham for high tea for their 30th wedding anniversary. My father-in-law had booked months earlier and was assured of a window table. He even went to the hotel a week earlier to check which table we would have.On arrival we were told that it was very busy and no window tables were available! WHAT, but we had booked one! Not a good start. After waiting ages our waitress came over to take our orders. The High Tea eventually arrived. Well it looked impressive - a three tier tray, scones and cream on the top, cakes in the middle and sandwiches on the bottom.Sandwiches first. Ham, Cheese, Salmon and ... not quite sure what was in the fourth set. They were all very small, SOGGY and tasteless. Obviously straight out of the freezer without enough time to thaw properly. Then the scones. Rock hard, like large stones and one small pot of cream and jam between five of us. I literally can't remember having worse scones. Makes supermarket scones taste good. Then the assortment of overly rich/sweet cakes. Just not very nice at all.All in all a very poor tea indeed and at a price of £32 per person!!The surroundings are great, the hotel building is very impressive and the view is lovely but the worse thing was despite a number of waiters/waitresses going back and forth looking busy, not once did anyone come up and ask if everything was OK. Even in my local pub they do that when having a meal.I didn't say anything at the time as not wanting to spoil my in-laws day but on reflection I really can't think of a worse high tea I've ever had and at a crazy price of £32 pp.I've never given a review on trip advisor before but the Petersham High Tea is so poor and such a rip off I just had to warn you all! Avoid

We had tea and cake whilst enjoying the stunning view!! Book a table close to the windows facing the river if you can. The service is always great and its just the loveliest hotel!! There is parking on site which is just so convenient especially in Richmond!!

Lovely place to eat.3 courses £30 approx. But not overbearing. We were offered olives and tiny cheese sticks whilst we waited in the bar area. I had battered poached egg to startSteak au poivre with tenderstem broccoli and fries. This was followed by the amazing creme brulee with shortbread. Tea or coffee with some truffles to end the meal. The views over Richmond was highlighted by the exceptional weatherAlready arranging another visit with friends. Highly recommended

We were a very large work Christmas party but I was very impressed with the quality of food and such great attentive service considering the large party.

Handsdown the best tasting coffee in town. Not called coffeeology anymore as it has been bought by ECC.
