The Perfect Plaice in Southend-on-Sea

I can't recommend enough. Fish was fab, chips lovely and fresh, staff amazing. Stayed in Southend as attending a concert at the Cliffs Pavilion the next day. Had a long drive with my mum who has dementia and her carer. Original restaurant I had earmarked was busy, so asked a local friend for a chippy we could sit in and she mentioned the perfect plaice.. and it was. The manager couldn't have been any more friendly, kind and helpful, considering it was very busy as it was early on a Friday evening. My mum thoroughly enjoyed everything which is rare and the cup of tea she had was perfect and she is a tea expert having drunk oodles of it in her 88 years. Thank you again for making this part of our trip very easy.

Absolutely delicious, Iv been searching for GREAT fish and chips around Leigh on sea and southend and THIS IS IT! the main guy there was soo filled with character really welcoming and friendly, I really miss old school fish and chip shops as we don’t have many left in London. But happy to have found one where I go to escape.

This is the most friendly restaurant/takeaway I have ever visited. Been going for a few years and they knew my name on the second visit. Their chicken box has mended a broken heart, recovery from and operation and kept a teenager happy since 2016😂 The staff are amazing

More expensive compared to other fish and chip shops in the area and the fish n chips aren’t the best either but Tom the manger is great.

We have lived in Leigh for 6 years but only recently discovered this lovely fish and chip shop. The staff are welcoming, friendly and accommodating. The food is delicious. We usually get a takeaway but today I ate in with my daughters. The service was amazing, my daughter cannot eat milk or egg (intolerance) and they were able to tell her what was ok to eat, even showing her labels. I highly recommend this restaurant for takeaway or eat in.

He epitomises everything that is good about local businesses. He knows his produce, he knows his customers. He was friendly and kind and I left the shop feeling good. Thanks Tom, mother in law enjoyed her birthday treat and the tartar sauce!

Visited this fish and chip shop for over a decade back when I lived in Essex. Staff (owners) are lovely people who are really efficient and pleasant to talk to during the order. Restaurant itself looks quaint with cool fish decorations/posters! Food is lovely every time.

This is a regular venue for us to enjoy fish & chips. 5 tables alongside the take away counter is ideal for eating in. Always freshly cooked be it fish, chicken etc. Service is always friendly & prompt. The best we chippy know in Essex. Parking is easy & free on both sides of the road right outside the shop. Recommended. David H.

We ate in for haddock and chips last week. Rarely leave reviews but food was great - fresh and hot. Service was lovely, the guy serving was so warm and friendly, chatting to locals and genuinely ensuring everyone was happy. We'll be back

Great tasting fresh fish, with really nice stuff. Good place to come back again and again but prices bit too high in my opinion🤷‍♂️ medium fish with chips and drink 11£ and i didn't feel full😱 usually i cant eat everything in other places

Went in on a Saturday evening. Placed my order and it was all ready within 10 minutes. Good portion sizes and very nice food. A decent chippy and will definitely use again.

Takeaway only at present. Phone up and order, cooked fresh for you to collect. Well packaged to keep hot. Fish is always fresh not frozen, chips and fisn not greasy. Always tasty, good sized portions, reasonably priced. Will not go anywhere elso for fish and chips

The fish is always fresh, the chips are hot and plentiful, the scampi is second to none and the staff are always very friendly and efficient. Seating area for dining in is clean and the phone and collect service is a useful addition in these difficult times. You would be hard pushed to find a better chippy

My husband and I have been going there mainly for a sit down meal, occasionally takeaway for over 6 years. We have our own local chippy nearby but just enjoy “The Perfect Plaice”. Staff are always so nice and I always say Martin the owner is so lucky to have a great team with Tom, Rob and the younger ones. Also have made new friends in there, people who go generally on the same day and time as us. They are also doing a great job at the moment ensuring public safety while sorting out the takeaways (no sit down) during this national emergency.

Really is the Perfect place. Extensive menu with vegetarian options and allergy awareness. Food is always fresh and piping hot. Premises clean and welcoming. Service is exemplary. These young guys know their customers and are ready with friendly conversation. Very highly rated.

I’ve eaten in here on several occasions now and always found the fish and chips tasty - fresh crispy batter, lovely (not soggy) chips, and flaky fish. Nice relaxed meet for friends and well-behaved kids (as it’s small restaurant wouldn’t want rowdy ones!)

I’ve taken many different people there and used the chippy myself for over *20 years , they will also grill your chosen fish and have a selection of. There was such a welcome when I went into this local fish and chip shop on the London Road. There is usually parking available which is a bonus. The food is cooked fresh and you can select your cut of fish, if you so wish. There is a small dining area as well. The food was fresh ............................. This fish and chip shop with an eating area is aptly named - superb fish, superb batter, superb service by all the team, excellently cooked - I travel 3 miles virtually every week to get two wings of skate and my wife and I always enjoy our meal. As an aside the portion of chips is plentiful to say the least. So what more could you want. I give The Perfect Plaice my highest recommendation - I guarantee you will not be disappointed. David
