The Perfect Plaice in Southend-on-Sea

Went there with my local friend fir a takeaway. Fabulous quality freshly battered cod and haddock and chips, friendly staff and customers!

More expensive compared to other fish and chip shops in the area and the fish n chips aren’t the best either but Tom the manger is great.

We have lived in Leigh for 6 years but only recently discovered this lovely fish and chip shop. The staff are welcoming, friendly and accommodating. The food is delicious. We usually get a takeaway but today I ate in with my daughters. The service was amazing, my daughter cannot eat milk or egg (intolerance) and they were able to tell her what was ok to eat, even showing her labels. I highly recommend this restaurant for takeaway or eat in.

This fish and chip takeaway is brilliant, not only was the food excellent quality and value for money, but Tom is a really good owner/manager? He epitomises everything that is good about local businesses. He knows his produce, he knows his customers. He was friendly and kind and I left the shop feeling good. Thanks Tom, mother in law enjoyed her birthday treat and the tartar sauce!

Visited this fish and chip shop for over a decade back when I lived in Essex. Staff (owners) are lovely people who are really efficient and pleasant to talk to during the order. Restaurant itself looks quaint with cool fish decorations/posters! Food is lovely every time.

This is a regular venue for us to enjoy fish & chips. 5 tables alongside the take away counter is ideal for eating in. Always freshly cooked be it fish, chicken etc. Service is always friendly & prompt. The best we chippy know in Essex. Parking is easy & free on both sides of the road right outside the shop. Recommended. David H.

We ate in for haddock and chips last week. Rarely leave reviews but food was great - fresh and hot. Service was lovely, the guy serving was so warm and friendly, chatting to locals and genuinely ensuring everyone was happy. We'll be back

Great tasting fresh fish, with really nice stuff. Good place to come back again and again but prices bit too high in my opinion🤷‍♂️ medium fish with chips and drink 11£ and i didn't feel full😱 usually i cant eat everything in other places

Went in on a Saturday evening. Placed my order and it was all ready within 10 minutes. Good portion sizes and very nice food. A decent chippy and will definitely use again.

Takeaway only at present. Phone up and order, cooked fresh for you to collect. Well packaged to keep hot. Fish is always fresh not frozen, chips and fisn not greasy. Always tasty, good sized portions, reasonably priced. Will not go anywhere elso for fish and chips

The fish is always fresh, the chips are hot and plentiful, the scampi is second to none and the staff are always very friendly and efficient. Seating area for dining in is clean and the phone and collect service is a useful addition in these difficult times. You would be hard pushed to find a better chippy

My husband and I have been going there mainly for a sit down meal, occasionally takeaway for over 6 years. We have our own local chippy nearby but just enjoy “The Perfect Plaice”. Staff are always so nice and I always say Martin the owner is so lucky to have a great team with Tom, Rob and the younger ones. Also have made new friends in there, people who go generally on the same day and time as us. They are also doing a great job at the moment ensuring public safety while sorting out the takeaways (no sit down) during this national emergency.

Really is the Perfect place. Extensive menu with vegetarian options and allergy awareness. Food is always fresh and piping hot. Premises clean and welcoming. Service is exemplary. These young guys know their customers and are ready with friendly conversation. Very highly rated.

I’ve eaten in here on several occasions now and always found the fish and chips tasty - fresh crispy batter, lovely (not soggy) chips, and flaky fish. Nice relaxed meet for friends and well-behaved kids (as it’s small restaurant wouldn’t want rowdy ones!)

There was such a welcome when I went into this local fish and chip shop on the London Road. There is usually parking available which is a bonus. The food is cooked fresh and you can select your cut of fish, if you so wish. There is a small dining area as well. The food was fresh ............................. I will be returning very soon - thank you.

This fish and chip shop with an eating area is aptly named - superb fish, superb batter, superb service by all the team, excellently cooked - I travel 3 miles virtually every week to get two wings of skate and my wife and I always enjoy our meal. As an aside the portion of chips is plentiful to say the least. So what more could you want. I give The Perfect Plaice my highest recommendation - I guarantee you will not be disappointed. David

If you want the most fresh and tasty fish and chips you cannot go far wrong coming here. Everything is cooked fresh as you order, none of the fish is frozen. The batter is crispy and golden but not oily, the chips are gorgeous, not at all greasy. We come here regularly, and have never had a bad meal. They make a fine cup of tea too. We had the fish platter which consists of Chunks of cod, squid rings, and scampi, all fried to perfection, with salad, and the chips come in a seperate dish. More than enough for two, piping hot, and hot plates as well. 4 cups of tea, a buttered roll, a fish platter and a very large pickled onion, not bad at all for just over £20. The staff are very friendly and cheerful, and always make you feel welcome, you can reserve a table if you wish.

I went into this place as soon as they opened I asked if the chip were real chips and not fries. They showed me they were what I wanted. Bought fish and chips and got home to see that it was from the previous day it was dry and brunt as it was refried. I have called food standards agency I took pictures of the chips I got.
