Absolutely amazing on all levels. I’ve eaten in many places - have one member whose gluten free - one family member exceptionally fussy and then there’s me …. Not easy to please. From the minute we walked in we we welcomed, sat down and served - there was a beautiful open fire and calm atmosphere. As we relaxed our food arrived …. What can I say …. The absolutely best meal we’ve had during our stay here. From high quality ingredients, huge detail, amazing portions and cooked to perfect - absolutely astounding and well done to all involved …. Such an understated venue for what turned out to be one of our best nights - truly THANK YOU

A lovely country pub where we stayed over after a family event. The room was nicely decorated (hence the stars) but there was no loo roll and towel provision consisted of one hand towel between the two of us - by the time we arrived it was too late to ask anyone to rectify the situation. There was no sign of the promised ‘hospitality tray of homemade treats’ and I had to hunt around in the middle of the night to find a water glass. Breakfast was comically awful. A tub of strawberry Activia, a Frosties bar, and a bottle of Britvic orange juice was laid in each place. We were offered no choice of cooked breakfast but simply brought a plate of fried eggs, bacon, sausage, baked beans etc. No ketchup. No toast and jam/marmalade. Tea was a teabag in a cup of hot water and proved undrinkable. No one came to offer us more drinks or to clear the plates away. A really disappointing experience.

Same rubbish menu pretty much since new landlords took over, this pub has really gone downhill since changing hands. Spring menu (hello guys it’s now summer) very mediocre food. Not sure anything is really homemade. Specials are nice but not very special when they never change though. Very little atmosphere in the bar or anywhere in the building for that matter. This place used to be buzzing with locals, now it just seems to be dying a sad slow death.

Unable to book a room on a Monday in October despite several emails and phone calls. My wife has been trying to book a room here for months for a very poignant occasion. Her sister's wake was held here nearly 20 years ago and she is revisiting to lay flowers at the grave. The last person she spoke to at the Perch & Pike assured her she'd contact the manager to get the booking sorted and confirm but nothing has been received. Shocking customer service. Clearly don't need any business.

Whilst the food was fine and the staff genial I was amazed to find £5.50 service charge added to 2 meals and 2 drinks. The world has gone mad. We had a boat on the Thames and stopped nearby, so we walked along the river and into the pretty village. Our greeting was excellent, and we were quickly shown to our table (booked before setting off just in case they were full) The menu offered a range of standard dishes and some specials. When delivered, our dishes were excellently presented and proved to be as tasty as they looked. Staff were attentive, engaging and genuinely friendly. We had superb meals and look forward to returning soon. Thanks to you all, it was a real pleasure to dine with you.

The first thing is don’t look at the menu on their website. It has nothing to do with the menu you get given on a dirty A4 bit of paper at the table! A poor selection of what can only be described as frozen food ready for the fryer. A sad state of affairs for what was and could be a lovely English Village Pub.

Dreadful. Slow, poor choice, bought in rubbish badly cooked, served and presented. Just don’t go here. Ordered pie and mash and veg, horrible soggy pies with packet gravy and the waiting staff were surprised when asked if there were any veg to accompany the pies. Pudding had been microwaved and had taken ages to arrive. Place had a birthday party in the restaurant and had told us we couldn’t sit in there as it was ‘fully booked’ . Apart from the party of @20 it remained empty until we left at 21.00. A deeply deeply underwhelming performance. Do better. You have a wonderful old pub in a fabulous village and you are wasting its potential.

Disappointing. Booked Sunday lunch and specifically asked if they did gluten free which they confirmed they did. Unfortunately when we got there the only gf starter was parsnip soup without bread, the gf roast meant simply removing half the plate (the Yorkshire and stuffing etc) but still charged the same price and the only gf dessert was lemon sorbet. The menu looked lovely with a good number of choices for non gf so it’s a shame they can’t be bothered to cater for dietary requirements (or perhaps don’t make their food fresh to be able to adapt it). How on earth a prawn cocktail can’t be offered as gf if it came without bread is beyond me! If they’d been honest about the incredibly limited choices we’d have gone elsewhere and been able to actually enjoy a proper Sunday lunch. Won’t be returning

We have been to the Perch and Pike before and visited again as we were struggling to find a country pub open on a Tuesday evening for a birthday meal. We arrived to find that there were a few other tables taken so there was a good atmosphere and the food was fantastic as ever. We had the smoked mackeral pate and cauliflower bhajis to start, both were excellent and good sized portions. For mains we both had the fish pie which again was excellent. The service was good and the food came at a good pace, not too rushed! The bill for 2 of us including a beer each came to about £65. We hope to return again soon.

A family bereavement brought the local community to remember a ‘recently’ lost member of the family and community. Hosted by owners and staff, a wonderful afternoon buffet (all home cooked and prepared) was laid on for forty+ guests...great variety of food and cakes. Later in the evening, our family had dinner, equally excellent from a wide choice of menu. Room accommodation was basic but nevertheless very comfy and warm with all the essentials. Following morning breakfast was fantastic…cereals, fruit, croissants and a great choice of cooked breakfasts. What could have been a sombre occasion turned into a celebration. All round, a great 24 hour stay and wonderfully hosted…thank you…a pleasure to stay in this old village pub at the heart of the community.

Family celebration reserved in advance. Table not set for us on arrival. In fairness the food was for the most part enjoyable but there is far too much on the plate which we all found off-putting and returned in most cases half what we were served. I find this amount of waste appalling and there is no excuse for it. It also prevented us from even considering the dessert menu because we were over full. The service was slow, we waited 45 minutes between starter and the first main being brought to the table and all mains did not come at once. I am posting this because I did contact the Perch & Pike after our visit but they have not had the courtesy to respond so I assume they do not really want constructive criticism.

Tomato salad starter - tomatoes were a bit unripe. Halloumi salad very tasty. Salmon en croute average, potatoes unseasoned , watercress sauce a bit bland. Browsing the pudding menu and Basil Fawlty appeared thinking we were a late walk-in and asked me did I realise the time? Made me feel a right c**t. Then he realised his mistake and apologised. Cherry bakewell was somewhat uncooked so sent back and taken off bill. £70 total. I wish I'd done what I usually do on my wedding anniversary....stayed at home!

That took a while as they were so busy but gave the lady at the next table the opportunity to recommend the ploughman's lunch.Drinks and food came in due course. I had the recommended ploughman's (choose cheese, pate or ham - I chose ham) which came with 4 little bread rolls, coleslaw, salad, red onion marmalade, home-made picalilli, a large pickled onion and half a scotch egg. Every bit of it was excellent - and at £9.50 it was good value too. My friend had brie & cranberry in bread (ciabatta?) with chips & salad. By the time we'd finished the sun had gone in and we were pretty cold but had really enjoyed our lunch and I'll certainly be back - but next time I'll book a space inside. A lovely place.

Having walked 16 miles on the Ridgeway, a night’s stay was a real treat and a chance to recover. We couldn’t have been luckier to find The Perch and Pike pub in South Stoke, just a little way along the Thames from Goring. From the moment we arrived and ordered beer and food we were warmly welcomed. The food was top quality as was the beer. We decided to stay for a night as they had a room available and we were treated to the very best. The difference, I think, was the little things and the attention to detail. Our room was clean and fresh with lovely white cotton bedding, just what we needed. We slept very well. In the morning, there was a Nespresso coffee machine so we could have a decent coffee to wake up to. There was also a little pot of shortbreads to have with our coffee. One of the best things was to be able to have a bath. Most places only have showers so this was another treat. Breakfast was top quality too with fresh raspberries, strawberries and blueberries with Greek yoghurt as well as the best granola I have tasted. Hot pastries and the best cooked English breakfast finished it off. I just can’t rate this place high enough and will definitely try to come back some time. The thanks have to go to the staff who really went the extra mile to give us the best experience. Thank you.

Brilliant friendly tucked away pub. They were supposed to be closed when we arrived but kindly carried on for us. A really cosy attractive pub and lovely gardens.

We had been recommended to this pub/restaurant in the tiny village of South Stoke - and were pleasantly surprised. When we arrived the bar was full of locals, and the welcome was very friendly. We ate in the converted barn which adjoins the main pub area. The menu was interesting, the service good. The food was excellent (above pub food but not high cuisine) - and it wasn't too expensive. We will definitely come back again - perhaps in the Summer, when I am sure it will be very busy.

The waiting staff were great at compensating for the slightly grumpy landlord. A little slice of Parisian service in Soth Oxffordshire. Food was well worth it as well.

Rude staff members with attitude problems. Don’t come here unless you enjoy hostile environments.

Chips were a mixture of overcooked and undercooked also I detected they use low grade cooking oil which is not typical of a chip shop to use especially in the North. Battered sausage was greasy and soft (undercooked with low grade oil) Kebab meat is a 4 out of 10 and chicken meat is a 3 out of 10. Curry sauce was watered down too when it’s supposed to be thick. For what they charge it’s not worth trying this place at all I highly recommend people go elsewhere for their evening meals

The Crazy Bear used to be such a wonderful “Crazy” culinary & visual experience but things have certainly changed. We decided on the 12 course Thai Signature menu which was below food court standard & that’s being kind…in fact, I’m not actually sure there was any Thai apart from the stodgy Pad Thai…& that may have been the best dish. If like us you’ve had many memories of the Crazy Bear, those days have passed I’m afraid
