The only thing I could recommend in this place is the choice of music. They serve canteen food that looks pathetic and tastes like it’s been cooked and laid around for a while (burger patty not fresh). Atrocious customer service, male manager intentionally showing us his attitude, he made a scene out of 4 pieces of tortillas, quite unnecessary really, understood you guys were enjoying a lazy evening until we turned up to an empty pub, but you were open so it’s not our fault.

This pub has a lot going for it: location, large beer garden, good selection of draught ciders and ales. However, the food and service on a not too busy Sunday was average at best. My wife's roast chicken was overcooked, the Yorkshire pudding burnt to a crisp and the stuffing was missing. The batter on my fish was undercooked, and the size of the serving of mushy peas was laughable - a teaspoonful at most. Normally I would have pointed this out at the customary 'is everything OK with your meal' visit, but despite there being plenty of staff, no one bothered to check. So we skipped dessert. The only compensation was that the Black Dragon cider at over 7% was worryingly drinkable :-) My recommendation: go here for a pint or two but skip the food. There are so many other places to eat out in Henley.

Is there such a thing as ‘prison chic’? If there is and it’s your thing, head to The Argyll. I forked out nearly £20 for frozen processed fish, frozen powdery chunky chips, a tablespoon of (I assume frozen) mushy peas and the same of tartar sauce, both served in what must be super speed biodegradable paper cups. I can only think the salt must have been top notch because the food wasn’t worth a fiver. If prison chic is not a thing, my apologies to all prisons. I’ve never been in one but the food in them must be better than this. I mean, they’re quite popular places. Unlike here on a Tuesday. Of course, I have to acknowledge the staff. If only for their comedic efforts to pull a Guinness. I reckon of the £6.90 I paid for a pint, over £1.20 of it was for the bishop’s collar head. No wonder the on trade is dying a death. People will not put up with such mediocrity. I won’t.

Came here for roast lamb on a Sunday which was great. Unfortunately, the sides didn’t match up. The potatoes lacked crispness, and the carrots needed more caramelization. With a little more attention to the accompaniments, this dish would be outstanding. Still, the lamb alone is worth coming back for.

The staff in here never fail to amaze, always very helpful and friendly! Even when it’s busy and perhaps you’d be less able to take individual care of everyone, they still manage to! It’s a long while ago now but we went in one day, it was very busy and pouring with rain ☔️ a number of staff took great care and attention in helping us finding us a table, going completely out of their way to do so. It meant a lot as partner cannot stand for long periods. They wouldn’t have known that however. 👏 Our family loves the food. Particularly the sharing roasts which are a great deal and brilliantly portioned. Nachos are our favourite also 👍👍

I had the pleasure of celebrating Mother's Day at The Argyll in Henley, and it was fantastic from start to finish. The pub has a warm, welcoming atmosphere, blending historic charm with a cozy feel. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure everything was just right. The Mother's Day menu was excellent - our meals were beautifully cooked and full of flavour. The Sunday roast was a standout and was a favourite amongst our table, perfectly prepared with all the trimmings. The drinks selection was impressive too, especially the craft beers and real ales which my Dad was very happy with. We sat in the spacious garden, which was a lovely setting to enjoy the weather, and the heated booths made it even more comfortable with the cool breeze that often came. Overall, it was a brilliant experience, and I’d highly recommend The Argyll for a special occasion or just a great meal out. Five stars!

Booked for Mother’s Day for a family of 4, after ordering the food, waitress come with 1 starter and asked if we was ready for our mains to come out! She Didn’t realise I ordered more starters. Had to go to the bar and order everything which is a pain as when food is at your table you need to get up and leave it if you need something! Not the best experience for a special day. Also on the website it says “mothers receive free gift,” which was a couple of quality street sweets from a box. Hardly worth it tbh. Won’t be returning anytime soon.

The table was all ready for us and the menu (special set menu) had good choices for the meat/fish eaters, but my vegetarian daughter who does not eat mushrooms found the choice a little limited. Food was good. We can recommend roast lamb dinner, sea bass and Mediterranean Tart. Starters arrived very promptly but then there was a long gap before mains arrived. Inly one person had dessert. The staff at bar were friendly and welcoming but a couple of times when waitress approached our table she came across as quite miserable. We had specified age of child with us at booking but a high chair was not ready at the table. We directed to where we could pick one up. Overall, good experience with a couple of ‘room for improvement’ points bit we would go back and have no hesitation in recommending the food and the value for money.

We ordered the pan fried sea bass x 2 which was absolutely lovely & a Roast dinner with extra meat this was pretty big and thoroughly enjoyed. A great evening was ruined when two members of our party overheard staff apparently giggling and complaining that two members of our party hadn’t purchased alcoholic drinks? Out of a party of 5: 3 people had 2 alcoholic drinks each. The other 2 people, one who was the designated driver, and another person who is sober, had a soft drink each and tap water. I cannot imagine that the issue was related to how much money we spent, or how much time we spent there, as 4 people also ordered food which brought the price of our table up. So why did the two women who were working the evening shift of the 11th feel the need to bring up the fact that two people didn’t drink alcohol, and why was it a laughable event? Like seriously it’s 2025 who cares who drinks alcohol or not?

We called in for a drink on the 1st of October ( Tue) it was by far the busiest pub in Henley . I therefore booked a table for the 3rd as I'd seen it was steak night . When I booked online, it asked for any special requests. I mentioned my food allergy and that we were bringing a big golden retriever, and it was his birthday . Wow , we were given an end table so there was plenty of room for the dog and a lovely black board reserving our table that had Happy Birthday Pup on it. There was an absolutely wonderful birthday bag with doggy treats and toys. To be honest, we were taken aback it was full to bursting, and I'd say at least £25 worth of goodies in . Even the table next to us were envious, and they didn't have a dog !! We ordered food , I had steak, my husband had the burger, he said it was one of the best he'd ever had . My steak was cooked to perfection , absolutely gorgeous , both dishes were lovely presented. It was really busy inside but the staff were lovely and you felt they had time for you . The atmosphere was lovely, too , casual and buzzing. I really can't thank the pub enough for making our visit so enjoyable and for spoiling our boy . He is still playing with the toys . I'd definitely recommend and would definitely go back . 10/10 .

My partner and I went for dinner at The Argylle whilst on holiday in Henley, we had a lovely meet and returned to accommodation. The following morning on the way home to Leicestershire, I realised I'd misplaced my scarf and realised I'd left it at the Argylle the night before. After emailing them, who I think is the manager Jordan, quickly replied and told me they kept my scarf behind the bar. When I explained I don't live in the area, I asked if could have the scarf sent to me, to which he happily obliged. I sent over my address, and a few days later my scarf arrived at home. They didn't even charge me for postage and did without any qualms. Thank you the Argylle, I thought I'd never see my scarf again.

My good friend Tommy and I spend perhaps a little too much time in the gorgeous beer garden (come rain or shine, thanks to the weather versatile booths) and have come to know the staff very well, and they us, through our day-long endeavors of trivial pursuit. Lottie in particular has become an essential part of my Argyll experience, as she continuously makes sure that everyone is looked after and glasses are always filled with the finest selection of beers.
