The Argyll Pub in South Oxfordshire

Always visit the argyll when we visit henley. We have never been disappointed, the staff are always polite and friendly, the beer is excellent as is the food. If you are in henley definitely give it a go.

We called in for a drink on the 1st of October ( Tue) it was by far the busiest pub in Henley . I therefore booked a table for the 3rd as I'd seen it was steak night . When I booked online, it asked for any special requests. I mentioned my food allergy and that we were bringing a big golden retriever, and it was his birthday . Wow , we were given an end table so there was plenty of room for the dog and a lovely black board reserving our table that had Happy Birthday Pup on it. There was an absolutely wonderful birthday bag with doggy treats and toys. To be honest, we were taken aback it was full to bursting, and I'd say at least £25 worth of goodies in . Even the table next to us were envious, and they didn't have a dog !! We ordered food , I had steak, my husband had the burger, he said it was one of the best he'd ever had . My steak was cooked to perfection , absolutely gorgeous , both dishes were lovely presented. It was really busy inside but the staff were lovely and you felt they had time for you . The atmosphere was lovely, too , casual and buzzing. I really can't thank the pub enough for making our visit so enjoyable and for spoiling our boy . He is still playing with the toys . I'd definitely recommend and would definitely go back . 10/10 .

Al the party was happy with the food and drinks.

They keep their ales really well. The best Abbot I've tasted anywhere. And it's walking distance from home. My favourite Henley pub.

Great food and service. Chloe was very pleasant and cheery. Lamb shank was delicious and my husband enjoyed his burger meal. Lighting could have been brighter.

The staff were incredibly attentive and helpful, busy Friday night but took the time to explain non alcoholic options and make coffees! Much appreciated. Huge beer garden too, parking out the back is free after 6pm too.

My partner and I went for dinner at The Argylle whilst on holiday in Henley, we had a lovely meet and returned to accommodation. The following morning on the way home to Leicestershire, I realised I'd misplaced my scarf and realised I'd left it at the Argylle the night before. After emailing them, who I think is the manager Jordan, quickly replied and told me they kept my scarf behind the bar. When I explained I don't live in the area, I asked if could have the scarf sent to me, to which he happily obliged. I sent over my address, and a few days later my scarf arrived at home. They didn't even charge me for postage and did without any qualms. Thank you the Argylle, I thought I'd never see my scarf again.

Absolutely superb Caesar salad! Food is really good and do much choice. Super friendly staff. Cosey atmosphere Great value

The most Dog Friendly Pub ever! Really welcoming Team, great food and drink, reasonable prices and a great atmosphere in a traditional pub. Outside or in is well thought out. We pre booked and they looked after the dog as well as anyone. Would definitely return and recommend.

Great pub with a good selection of beers and food.

Decent pub with a deceptively long beer garden that catches the afternoon sun. Could be some dark real ales on offer but some average best bitters went down ok with plenty of craft options and friendly staff.

We've been visiting The Argyll for some time now, and it's probably our favorite pub in Henley, and we've tried quite a few. We reserved a large table on Saturday, and they did a great job catering to all of us. The ribs were some of the best I've ever tasted! The place is extremely kid- and dog-friendly, and everyone had a fantastic time.

Charged double for the food (by accident or on purpose) not good enough. They saw us, knew we were tourists and should do better

A hidden gem. From the high street it looks like a local pub. The garden is huge and very clean. Lots of tables and chairs. The offer for Monday, a burger and drink was fantastic.

Got served by Ollie and Caitlin, they were both amazing and we had a fantastic time and food. Highly recommend the Argyle, probably one of the best pubs in Henley.

Chloe & Lottie was lovely, very attentive as always. Great beer knowledge from the both of them. Love coming here, all the staff are always so caring and talkative.

Had a fantastic dining experience on Sunday, the roast diners were wonderful, a special thanks to Grace who served us, thnakyou.

Regular spot for us , love it! Staff are amazing,service great and food exactly as described. The heated outdoor booths with tv are definitely a plus

Hands down the best roast dinner in Henley. The portions are huge and the pork belly delicious. Served by Grace - so friendly, welcoming and helpful, as were the bar staff who took our order. Great spot for a Sunday afternoon.

So welcoming and pleasant so much so we came back for our evening meals. Once again, greeted and made welcome. We ordered our drinks and food. What followed was great food, fantastic service, and a great atmosphere. Many thanks to Ellie,Ollie,James and the unseen staff. Great team doing an awesome job. Would definitely recommend and visit again . Sorry no pictures to add but Ribs and Pie with accompaniments 5 star.

In for an informal family birthday dinner and the Argyll didn't disappoint. Friendly service, well-looked after without being over the top, food good and delivered promptly. Thanks Chloe, Josh and team for a fun evening that was just what we wanted.

The Argyll is a place I frequent with friends and family from all over! My good friend Tommy and I spend perhaps a little too much time in the gorgeous beer garden (come rain or shine, thanks to the weather versatile booths) and have come to know the staff very well, and they us, through our day-long endeavors of trivial pursuit. Lottie in particular has become an essential part of my Argyll experience, as she continuously makes sure that everyone is looked after and glasses are always filled with the finest selection of beers. The Argyll is my favourite thing about Henley-on-Thames and the people make it that way! Now... Time for my next pint.

The Argyll is my favourite local pub and I go as much as I can, Archie Lottie and the rest of the staff are accommodating and make me proud to be a regular.

We were not informed until we tried to place our order ( and had purchased our drinks) that there was a very limited of choice available from the menu. No pizzas, no duck, no steak and no chicken kebabs. We left and went somewhere else to eat so cannot review the quality of food.

Lovely pub Great atmosphere and excellent food at a reasonable price. The guy at the bar who took our order was friendly and helpful . This is a deservedly popular pub but even when busy the service remains efficient and friendly ,

We sat and waited for a hour and a half for are food to come out and wen it did the bugees was so dry and over cook will not be going back Could hear the chef shouting at staff was not OK we told the Waitres about the burger and wen she wen in the Kitchen and told them the chef you could hear him laughing

I've eaten here twice and had a few pints once too. The first time was a Sunday roast which I cannot fault, it was outstanding and beyond expectations - I have a small group of friends that go out with me on Sundays for what we call Sunday roast club, we all agreed that this was definitely one of the top ten we'd visited. The service is friendly and prompt, although there is no waiting - it's a pub so you order at the bar. The atmosphere is lovely, the toilets are clean, the garden has lots of room for punters and the decor is classic pub style. Thumbs up from me.

Great Food! Especially on Steak night great value and perfectly cooked. Highly recommend. Big garden and great service if visiting henley worth popping in.

The pub had a great selection of beers. The food menu catered for everyone. We went on steak Thursday where we both had fillet steaks with a salad and sauce of your choice tomato,chips, and mushrooms + a drink each. And it was just under 40 notes.

Beautiful outdoor sitting with the sun and really delicious fish, the plates were full and delicious.

A group of 14 of us had Sunday lunch, which was excellent & very good value. Be warned the sharing roast for two is humongous.

We booked for Sunday lunch at 4pm which they seemed happy to accept. We ordered two roast lamb and a roast beef. It was all very poor. The roast beef was so overcooked it was like leather and they agreed with this and didn’t charge for it. With hind sight we should have also rejected the two lamb which were also very over cooked. The food might have been plated much earlier and then been microwaved to warm it for us, it certainly seemed like that. Have had good meals, and Sunday lunches, here in the past, but this was a disaster. May return to eat again here but certainly not for the Sunday lunch.

A good proper pub with a large outdoors seating area out the back. Inside, I would think the front portion of the pub is for eating and the rest for just enjoying yourself - which I get the feeling is a common occurrence here. They had meal specials on everyday and from what we saw, they looked amazing value for money and very tasty. The staff were wonderful and cheery. The Guinness was excellent as was the Happy daze by Partners Brewery.

We dined on 9th June for Sunday lunch. The good stuff: the pub was busy with a good atmosphere and plenty of staff. We had the chicken and the lamb which was plentiful and hot. The not so good stuff: gravy was in short supply on both plates so I ventured to the bar to request more. “That’s okay sir but you’ll have to pay for it!” £1.95 for not even half a gravy boat. Shocking. There’s no mention of extra gravy cost on the menu and it really took the edge off our meal. Not happy, very mean, we won’t visit again

Ok pub grub. Had a tabled booked, but ended up at the bottom of the garden. No table set when we arrived.

I would highly recommend the Argyll, from the outside it looks a little ordinary but inside a lovely airy layout and welcoming staff, massive menu with something for all tastes . We went back two days running and found the food very well cooked and presented. Sue & Derek. 🙂🙂

My experience at the Argyll Pub was very good. Staff were friendly and were very nice towards our dog. Food was extremely appetising. Came out very quickly and tasted delicious! We had eaten our food by 9.30pm and were ready to order our dessert. We were then told that the kitchen had shut and we had not been notified earlier. This was very annoying. Apart from this food was lovely and served quick. Facilities were clean too!

Probably the worst chicken schnitzel I tried in my life. I didn’t expect a high quality dinner but seriously, needed to force me to eat that. 16.45£ for an extremely tasteless dry chicken fillet, with an overdone dark brown breaded fry. Few chips, and the smallest effortless lettuce salad ever seen. Never again

“Beer battered onion rings” were simply equivalent to a kebab shop, and that is polite. Chunky chips? Not all cooked AND random rosemary herbs on- not advertised - could have been allergic. Tread with caution, or even better…AVOID!

Gone downhill. Always enjoyed Sunday lunch here but food has gone downhill and was very average for £17.95. They also wanted to charge an additional £1 each when we requested a little more gravy, never had that before! Also refused to allow us to buy our 25 year old son a pint as he didn’t have ID on him, but they were more than happy to take his cash when he paid for the drinks! Won’t be returning,

A refreshing change to be served really good food at a reasonable price without the expectation of a service charge. This is a pub that serves really good food without the claim of being a gastro pub. The sunday lunch was large and the roast beef both tender and tasty.Great!

I came here with friends because one of them lives in Henley, all former colleagues, for food and drink. The place was very busy when we arrived but did thin out a bit later. We had booked a table for 7.30pm for the 7 of us. Understandably it was a little loud with so many people there but it was all good. The staff and beer were excellent as was the food, particularly the pork belly and mash. There is a good range on the main menu. I can only imagine what this place is like on a summer's evening with all the outdoor covered seating so I will return then.

Not often you find a place with so many gluten free beers on tap. Great service, decent atmosphere and great beer garden.

We were looking for a dog friendly pub and stopped at the The Argyll today. Lovely pub with really friendly bar staff. Good selection of food at reasonable prices. Very happy customers. Highly recommend it especially if you are out & about with a dog.

Fancied a burger, fell in on a Mondays-only £14.95 Beer & Burger deal! So ordered the smoky pulled pork-topped Big Argyll burger and a pint of Siren IPA. £14.95 is steal for something so good! Proper Pub is clean with friendly staff and heated rear covered patio. Great find for Mondays off!

Had an Argyle burger here last night. It was dreadful the most unappetising lump of grey meat topped with pulled pork in a wet bun with cold oven chips and all for £16.95 ! Staff were friendly and a good atmosphere but sadly the food let them down

Went with a friend having never heard of this place before. Just a pleasant surprise. The staff were lovely; very inviting and conversational. And they were dog-friendly! As far as pub food goes, it was pretty damn good too 👍 Will definitely visit again!
