Exceptionally good meal. I could not believe I was eating in Derby. Excellent service, superlative food and reasonable prices for what is a top end restaurant (for Derby). Will return.

Our family visited last Sunday for their Sunday dinner. It was our first time, I had never heard of it before. The entrance is very grand, beautiful big stairs leading to an amazing building. The staff made us feel comfortable and took out coats. It was fairly quiet which made for a lovely relaxing atmosphere. The menus were great both for us and the children, three of us had the Sunday dinner and the other had chicken strips. The food was very good all round, I had the chicken which was very succulent, the beef looked super nice too. Looking forward to visiting again for a date night without the chicken, and possibly with friends. Neither of us were drinking alcohol, never time we will definitely be trying the cocktails. We thought the bill was very reasonable, less than £100 for all four of us!

After having an excellent Sunday lunch here a couple of weeks ago, I returned yesterday with a large group for a celebration. We were seated upstairs in the Nightingale room which was fabulous, as we were able to mingle much easier than if we’d been in the main restaurant area. The room also has a separate toilet area close by which was a bonus. From the moment I made the booking the staff could not have been more helpful, friendly & patient (as I made several changes to the pre-order). The food was amazing, the cocktails were delicious (with lots of choice) and the decor is stunning. As soon as we arrived they made us feel so welcome. We weren’t rushed and we were allowed to linger as long as we wanted. Thanks to the wonderful staff it was a very special afternoon and one I will remember for a long time. I will definitely be returning soon. Thank you so much Joanne.☺️

Been wanting to try this place although concerned by some reviews. Sadly have to agree that everything is great... except the food. Menu reads well and presentation is elevated, a lot of effort clearly goes into preparing each plate, but it didn’t really taste of much. Staff were attentive in checking that everything was OK, and there was nothing to actually complain about, it was just lacking in flavour (except the confit duck which was overly salty). If you serve this type of food then it has to taste amazing…. but it didn’t & we left feeling that it style over flavour and overall rather disappointing. The starters were particularly theatrical in presentation so we were excited to start our meal but unfortunately were luke-warm, tasted pretty bland, and some of the textures we found off-putting (onion soup for example). Mains looked good but didn’t really deliver on taste - vegetarian option was particularly poor, essentially a few chunks of boiled turnip with tiny bricks of potato (described as gnocchi) without any discernible sauce to bring it together. Highlight was dessert & the cocktails were great, but we won’t be returning. Such a shame because the overall experience of our evening was really good - the place feels special - but the food was disappointing and frankly not worth it.

We were really looking forward to visiting the Pepperpot for sunday lunch with our daughter before she returned home. There wasnt a lot if atmosphere as only 2 or 3 other tables were occupied. We got off to a bad start as the waitress first gave us the breakfast menu, then gave us the weekly menu before we eventually got the Sunday lunch menu ! Our starters arrived and were nicely presented and delicious. We had ordered wine but that didn't arrive and we had to remind them before we got it- we weren't asked if we wanted to taste the wine it was just dumped on the table !! The main courses arrived on cold plates and most of 2 mains were inedible due to being stone cold 😥 We did mention this and to be fair the staff did give us a discount off the final bill. We were disappointed overall with the experience which is a great shame as Derby doesn't have many upmarket restaurants and the Pepperpot building has been lovingly restored and converted. I suggest better training for waiting staff and a big improvement would be to warm the plates for hot meals !

The most incredible Sunday lunch locally. I’m a foodie and I’ve had the pleasure of eating at some fantastic places but my goodness The Pepperpot beats them all hands down for the sheer quality and quantity of their Sunday roasts. We’ve been twice now and it’s always consistently good. The staff are so lovely and very attentive. We’re visiting again soon for their evening menu, so I’ll be sure to follow up again with a review on this. The menu changes with seasonable availability too, meaning it’s different every visit.

This place is overpriced. Lovely building and nice decor but it's typical fine dining. Small portions with over-inflated pricing. £4 for a small bow of greens and £8.50 for a small portion of panacotta. You guys are having a laugh! When I was served the lamb at £23 with 3 small pieces I had to quickly get the waitress to order me some potatoes on the side because the portion was pathetic. Breakfast is a better option but dinner is a NO.I predict this place won't last if changes aren't made. The market in Derby is very limited. When the honeymoon period finishes you guys will be struggling. All style, no substance.

The building is lovely and the decor equally lovely. The food, however, was shocking. My fish was cold and the 3 very small cubed potatoes were raw. Probably the best dining experience in Derby, only 2 very minor issues - and both easily remedied. First, the dishes are too small. Yes, fine dining etc etc but a pea on a plate is not really a thing anymore - serve a little more please! Second, very small menu, which is totally fine by me - but why have one of those few dishes called ‘winter’ - it’s nearly summer! Name change in order? All in all truly superb can’t wait to return.

All staff were polite and super professional but yet made you feel comfortable and welcomed. White glove service and explanations of exactly what was on our plates by a young man who explained brilliantly. Lots of lovely little touches you would expect of a very expensive fine dining restaurant such as coats taken, white gloves, and other little fine touches and details…. But without the price tag. The food was fantastic. Tasty and enough of it. 3 courses plus a drink each at the start, plus a bottle of red was under £130 for two of us. Which we easily thought could have been double elsewhere. Can’t wait to go back! PS Neither of us have any allergies or intolerances however we were impressed by the fact every dish on the menu has a GF option.

I'm not happy about reviewing the Pepperpot because I always want new businesses to succeed, but our breakfast last Sunday was pretty awful. A full English is bacon, sausage, beans, black pud, not what I was served on Sunday, which was a slice of sausage, a piece of belly pork, some black stuff all served lukewarm. My wife saw my face drop but the waitress didn't notice. My wife had lukewarm eggs royale, with chunks of salmon and raw onion. Please, please make your menus clearer about what the customers are ordering. And the coffee was nothing to write home about either.

Where do I start! My friends and I went for breakfast today. Firstly, there is no parking. So you have to faff around with parking apps if you have no cash to pay. On arriving to to the venue in heels, you have to navigate the numerous concrete steps, with hand rails on either end; none in the centre. My group of friends and I decided to try here instead of Seven for a change, but we're totally disappointed My full English breakfast was £14. No toast, curried looking beans, a slab of brecon that looked like pork. A round flattened sausage a hard square piece of potatie and a small portion of scrambled egg. By the time I finished what was a disappointing breakfast, I was still hungry. The worst was yet to come. As my friends and I were leaving the entrance, one of my friends did not realise there was a steep step on exiting and fell flat on her face. She is currently at A&E with a suspected fracture to her wrist along with bruising to her face. She is 77 years old and I'm concerned at such an injury to an elder lady. How poor is it that there is such a huge step on exiting, with no signage!!! This is absolutely appalling. Whilst the staff were really supportive, the current set up is hazardous.

Went with high hopes but came away disappointed and won't be returning. One choice for the vegetarian off the lunch menu. Portion sizes extremely small, asked for extra tartar sauce with the main and never received it. Butter portion to share between 3 was tiny. The chips came under the fish, a very small portion which wouldn't have been so bad if they were full chips and not end bits mainly. Nobody came up to ask us throughout the meal if everything was ok. I think they will have to tweak the menu and portions if they want to succeed.

We decided to have breakfast at this new restaurant, we like to support local business We were a group of 6 including 2 children The food was freshly made, however the portion sizes are ssssssssssmall... I ordered French toast as I don't eat pork and there wasn't a vegetarian option (unusual ) For £7.50 I was served half a slice of toast(delicious- not enough of it) when I queried this I was told it's a la carte and he left..(manager) The full English did not include toast and the potion was more for a child's breakfast £14.50.. We were not asked about allergies( my son is allergic to pistachio and one of the items on the menu included pistachio.).. Overall it's a new venue and I guess they are finding their feet, however if they are going to survive they need to align themselves to the locale..this is derby centre not Mayfair, the portion sizes especially at breakfast are too small and need to be addressed even in Mayfair they do a normal size breakfast?! Breakfast are suppose to be hearty and set you up for the day, this one certainly won't.. we feel toast should be free as many high end venues address the food (lack of) with rolls or toast .. so if you are intending to pay this place a visit eat before you arrive or ensure you have something at home to top you up after.. Will we return..that's still up for debate.. Davis Family

Lunch. All new restaurant is located on the site of the old DRI, London Road. Features a luxurious cafe and cocktail bar in the original building, which was constructed over 200 years ago. To the rear, a stylish glass extension houses the restaurant serving breakfast, lunch & dinner seven days a week. It opened this year on Valentines Day, and we couldn't wait to go and try it. Well, we left it a few weeks to give them time to settle in and arrived early for their lunchtime service. We hadn't booked and were warmly greeted in the bar area as you walked in. No problem, and shown to a table in the very swish restaurant. The lunch menu 2 Course Offer (Starter & Main or Main & Dessert) £22.50 3 Course Offer (Starter, Main & Dessert) £29.50 As it was lunchtime we had the two courses. Which includes fresh bread and butter. Starters Braised Pig Cheek,Cauliflowers, almond, apple. An unsual Waldorf,no, it's not a salad. Goats cheese panna cotta, waldorf garnish, celery juice, parsley. Mains Roast Chicken Stuffed chicken breast, wild mushroom mousseline, hazelnut crusted thigh, cavolo nero, jerusalem artichoke. *8oz Rump Picanha, Bearnaise sauce, chips *£4 supplement. Got to be really honest about here. It far exceeded our expectations. The luxurious interior with great service and food to match. This is just what Derby needs and deserves.

I went for breakfast. The food was tasty but the portions are comically small. It's a shame as they have done a great job with the building and decor and the staff and service was fantastic. I wouldn't go back for breakfast, but hopefully their lunch and dinner portions are better!!

Tried this restaurant for the first time and I had high hopes, but felt quite disappointed. My partner's food was really good but mine was lacking. The starter was ok, if a little unusual. The main was small and I complained about the potatoes not being cooked. There was no refund for these despite me not touching more than one of the potatoes. Some of the vegetables on my dish were also undercooked, though I didn't mention this to the waitress. We also went during lunchtime service on a weekday. There was supposed to be an offer on 2 courses but this wasn't added to our bill and we were charged full price despite the menu offer of two courses... All in all, I felt that it wasn't worth the price. If you are charging £22 for a small main course, it has to be outstanding and it just wasn't.

What we had… Eggs Royale £9.50 Toasted sourdough, smoked salmon, avocado, poached egg, hollandaise, radish I have never till this day seen a PORTION this SMALL anywhere in the UK. It was like a SAMPLE SIZE BREAKFAST. The Toast was literally half of a Full size toast, with few bits and pieces of salmon !!! SAME BREAKFAST ANYWHERE ELSE IN DERBY IS ABOUT 3 to 4 times the siZE.

Absolutely beautiful decor, made to feel extremely welcome. Food cooked fresh and delicious. We altered the menu slightly with out any complications. Staff are warm, welcoming and extremely efficient. We were served by Abbie who was wonderful.10/10 for Abbie. Price wise extremely reasonable. We went for breakfast for my mums birthday and we cannot wait to return. I would highly recommend the Pepper Pot.

Just been for Sunday lunch. Food was very tasty, well presented and the service was good. We both had the roast beef, a cocktail each (very nice) and coffees. Only small gripe was they had no horseradish sauce. Will definitely return

Firstly I would like to mention the food. The food was decent. I was pleasantly surprised by the portion sizes. Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed with the atmosphere as it took me back to a 1970s hostel. On the positive side the service was impeccable as the woman who served us was lovely. Overall it was decent. Especially decent for the money.

Lovely large Costa with big windows to people watch. Food and service great. Debbie is a real asset to your business and is polite and friendly!! However a supervisor/ manager "Emma" is doing you no favours at all as an organization. Her whole being radiates anger and boredom and she is only borderline civil to both her staff and customers. Having a breakfast in here I had to listen to her slapping paperwork around, huffing and puffing, and generally talking to Debbie like she was less than human. It's blatantly obvious she doesn't want the job , culminating in her telling a member of the public that she had a great break ( presumed holiday) but now she was "back in hell" Go and work elsewhere Emma if you're not fond of your job.
