The Penny Black - JD Wetherspoon in Cherwell

What a great place to go for a bargain breakfast! Free refills on the hot drinks and a great choice on the menu. It wasn't gourmet but hit the spot. Excellent value!!

This is one of my most favourite pubs in Bicester from my own special reasons if ever you go in it look at the lovely pictures in it of what baby bicester used to look like it's a very helpful friendly pub

Lovely pub and excellent value.

Bouncer has a power complex. Popped in for some food half way through a long drive. All 3 of us have a meal and a drink. Left for 5 minutes to go to the near by Sainsbury's, then the bouncer refused to let us back in to use the loo before we set off for the rest of the long drive. Not a way to make us feel like valued customers

Very nice pub with friendly hard working staff . Would highly recommend The Freedom Breakfast. Will definitely visit again on my next visit to Bicester.

Probably the messiest Wetherspoons I have ever been in. Gave it a second chance and still the same. Spent over and hour at our table and none of the plates were cleared from the tables surrounding us. Waited over ten minutes at the bar to be served as the staff didn’t keep an eye on order. Not a good one. Food was great however

Very busy, found only spare table. More staff needed to clear tables. Food was good when it came. Not much space between tables. Very over crowded in this branch.

It was spacious, comfortable, and had lots of seats. There was a real fireplace so I was able to have a warm meal on a rainy day :) The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and had a comfortable atmosphere.

My favourite local ,good meal deals but service at the bar is very slow only ever seem to have 1 member of staff on the bar especially in the mornings and breakfast time us usually quite busy. Could do with a refurb it's looking dirty and worn and some of the chair don't feel safe to sit on

Sorry. I wasn't in the Penny pub ,Bicester Town. Apparently the other day. However, I DO frequently walk PASSED the BACK ENTRANCE OF said public house. Maybe, that's what is HAPPENING? IT picks me up near a mast/wind thingy. However , PLEASE 🙏 let me know that's the case. Cos if NOT I'd like to know. Regards X

A decent JD Wetherspoon pub located on Bicester High Street. There were some free tables inside, but most of them still had dirty plates and glasses on which wasn't a positive. The atmosphere was lively, and drinks ordered via the app didn't take long to arrive. Overall, it was an average experience.

Cant beat a spoons breakfast. Service friendly and fast. Be great to offer 10% discount to OAPs in winter.

The managers here are absolutely disgusting. One of the managers specifically has been making up lies about me for over a year now and think that it's okay to be abusive towards me whenever I go in. I want in today (30/10/24) and was told that that manager has now barred me even though I have do nothing to necessitate it. I have always been polite to the staff and managers. I barely interact with them, I go in, find a seat and order on my phone. I went in today with my sister and 10 month old niece to get some lunch and have a catch up only to be told that the manager I've been having issues with has barred me and it's been in place for quite a while. I went in at the start of October and had zero issues, so how can I have been barred for a while when I was able to go in early this month?

I ordered the steak rare and jacket potato, and I have to say the steak was delicious exactly how I ordered it and the jacket potato was delicious too, I throughly enjoyed my meal . I would recommend the gourmet sirloin steak. Thank you

First time in Bicester Wetherspoon's and went with my aunt and uncle, great atmosphere and the food was delicious and I really enjoyed the selection of meals available, having dietary issues was no problem, service was excellent asked to have the table wiped they came and were pleasant and friendly, would definitely come again and recommend anyone go try for yourself , it is great for couples, groups and families you will not be disappointed.

A pub in the shopping precinct. The outside seating is a nice touch. Black Dragon cider and Broadoak Moonshine in the fridge which was cool.

FELT UNWELCOME AND DISCRIMINATED I recently visited the Wetherspoon at Bicester Village with a group of friends, and unfortunately, our experience was far from satisfactory. I ordered food and drinks for the group, and when one of my friends couldn’t provide ID (we all are 25-30year old), we were told she couldn’t drink, if she drank we will be asked to leave, which we fully understood and respected. However, after taking a harmless photo with her drink (without consuming it), the staff member accused her of drinking it and abruptly took the drink away. Despite my offer to drink it myself, since I had paid for it, the staff member refused and cited a supposed warning that we didn’t even violate. And no refund for the drink too. Plus, we were banned from ordering food and drinks. It wasn’t the loss of the drink that bothered me, but the way the situation was handled. The staff’s behaviour felt discriminatory and unjustified, leaving us with a very negative impression of the establishment. The manager there was unhelpful. I hope this feedback is taken seriously to improve customer service in the future.

Paulicarus happy to do his third new Spoons in three consecutive days. Decided to give Bicester a go.( pronounce Bis ter.) First two bars had no real ale so Spoons is always dependable. Jorvic spotted Keltek Miners Gold. A really good Cornish beer. With my 50p off CAMRA vourcher a pint and a pint of Strongbow dark fruits for £4.60. Happy days. There lovely rear beer terrace was too hot on this rare sunny day so sat in the air conditioned interior.

Came in ordered 3 breakfasts was served very quickly the breakfasts were cold!! Never again

Lovely conversion of an old post office building. Very spacious and comfortable, usual 'spoons menu but none the worse for that. Great value food and beers. Can get very busy at lunchtimes.

I am shocked at this place, today my mum went for breakfast as usual, when ordering she ordered the usual, when she asked for the egg to be replaced with toast (politely may I add) the chef then took it upon himself to leave the kitchen and approach my mum infront of many people. He then proceeded to say "is this her!" With a raised voice, he then complained about replacing the egg with toast embaressing my mother infront of many people, this sent her into tears unable to eat her breakfast and she left shortly after, I will be going down there this afternoon to speak with this chef and sort this very rude behaviour out! I am utterly disgusted in this behaviour! My mum is the sweetest loveliest woman there is and to be treated like this is an outrage !!

It's OK and located conveniently in the centre of Bicester.

Small Wearherspoons. Not much atmosphere, but good if you just want to go somewhere quite. Service was bad wanted an ale and was told that all the ales they had on were off and I had to wait until they spoke to a manager to change the barell. Wasn't given explanation on why all the ales were not on apart from they hadn't changed the barrel. Very poor

It's what it is ..cheap and cheerful..especially in todays economic climate.. Fair play wetherspoon. Meal and drinks for under 20 quid.. It's not The Ivy or Michelin starred establishment.. but well worth a visit anywhere in the UK will not be disappointed.

Another decent Whetherspoons. Clean and pleasant restaurant. Nice historic building retaining some lovely period features. I like the fireplace. Usual food at a reasonable price. Can't complain.

Pretty decent pub for a bite and a few beers. Local clientele and affordable prices. Normal, decent food, with the typical English pub variety. The beers are quite good and varied. The place has a pleasant terrace for when the weather permits.

went to Bicester Village outlet which is about 1 to 2 miles away instead of spending a fortune popped into Wetherspoons and had a nice bite to eat and a drink and saved a few bob

Usual Spoons fare. Right in the High Street so parking not possible, no nearby cycling rack either.

always rate a spoons out of 5 against other spoons. ya know what ya getting. its price or convenience. staff were good. overall nicer than most others I've visited and a world of local knowledge can be picked up while standing at a spoons bar for 5 mins.

food is not bad but could be a little hotter, salt and vinegar not offered, busy place, good one for a multitude of ages. Menu is good but needs to itemised what is on the plate, I picked a burger that never had tomato itemised on it said lettuce and red onion, and it arrived with tomatoes on the burger 😖 ruined the meal, on checking the menu again some burgers had tomato stated some didn't needs to be more careful with this as people have allergies Ordered the tennesse burger

Really friendly staff and so are the other customers 🤣 Food came quickly. Good selection of coffee and water machines for self service. The bonus - the toilets are on the same floor, so no stairs to climb!

Popped into the Penny Black for breakfast. The experience was everything I expected. A nice clean pub with a relaxed almost coffee shop kind of atmosphere, the food here is very well priced and nicely cooked. It certainly met with the standard that I would expect at this price point, indeed the prices are very good. I think this is a great place to stop for a quick informal breakfast or lunch whilst you are out and about, it is perhaps not somewhere I would think about if I was going out for an evening "meal" with family but for a quick eat this is perfect! Great value for money, nice polite staff. Highly recommend

Wetherspoons are wetherspoons right?? Bicester has it's own niche live action Jeremey Kyle script going on and some of the best seats in the house to watch this is in wetherspoons. The food is ok a semi decent standard and the staff are really sound too. (One of em is dead tidy too 🤫😉) But all in all it's another place for some quick bites and cheap pints 💪

Probably the best JD Wetherspoon in Oxfordshire. Food is great in terms of both quality and the portion size and the staff members are friendly!

It’s a Spoons - you know what you’re getting. It’s cheap and charmless but somehow still has the best range behind the bar of any pub around here.

Never eat here but drinks are good value

Went for a drink pre dinner. Fairly typical wethers - cheap booze, lots of choice. A few interesting characters in there!
