Golden Kitchen in Cherwell

My old review: Great portion of fish and chips, perfect! Updated review: Some of the greasiest fish and chips I have ever had. They must have had the oil too cool or put too much fish in all at once, cooling the oil down too much, as the batter was like an oil soaked sponge, as were the boxes and paper that it came in. It made me and my father ill (both having IBD) and I avoided most of the batter but even the chips were really quite greasy. I really can't recommend it if it's this inconsistent between visits.

I went to this service and ordered my meal I’ve come home to find that two of the things I ordered wasn’t there have tried multiple times to get in contact with them and the phone line isn’t working, I then re ordered on the just eat app and got a notification saying the shop couldn’t complete my order, AVOID AVOID AVOID

I order on the Web to be picked up in store to avoid the wait. On arrival told them my name and the prepared my order,wrong order. So I told them my name again and they prepared another order,again wrong order, when I did get it ,it was already prepared. Went home and the food was nearly cold , phone number do not work, was hungry so I microwaved it. Last few visits It has really gone downhill. You have been warned

the young politeful man behined the counter on the 11th December really made my experience in the golden kitcken much better, after a hard day he made it better by being respectful and charming. He definitely needs a pay rise!

Rude staff and if some one ask to use washroom they must allow according to Uk law .. lol we order as well …. This is Sick!!

Quite possibly the best fish and chips in Bicester. Staff are friendly and service is good.

I highly recommend this place! The fish is absolutely delicious and fresh, homemade chips are a bonus!

This chippy started strong after a 2 year closure. Unfortunately its now hit and miss with the quality of food. Fish so of grease and chips can be dry and cold ,while being like little off cuts . It's a shame really. Rather have a nice Chinese now a couple of doors along.

Probably the first customer on opening today! Medioca place, Fish mainly batter..Chips reheated from earlier that day or previous..Advertise Kebab! But no Spit the meat is precooked so I didn't bother..all in all a lot better Fish & Chips in Bicester than here in my opinion. However I'm sure lots love it...

One of the first to recommend but sadly not going back price gone up batter greasy and chips cold this could have been the best in Bicester most of people I know who I recommended to have commented the same,What a shame

Worst fish and chips I have ever had. Ordered the garlic mushrooms to which everyone recommended and they were so bland , no garlic flavour just mushroom . Also ordered scampi and chips to where the chips were bland and dry had no salt or vinegar in them even though I did ask for it and I had more batter than scampi and not to take the mick but the scampi was no bigger Than a pinky nail. My partner ordered a kebab to where the meat was very thick and tasteless and the chicken tasted extremely fake, very rubbery . Partner also ordered a Battered mars bar and all we could taste was olive oil , no chocolate flavour or even caramel , just grease every where . Also had to wait 45 minutes for the food to be ordered , really disappointed because a lot of people have recommended this place but I personally would not go there ever again.

After a long wait for our food we both didn't enjoy it . Fish seemed reheated and the chips had a vile taste . Won't be going back

Lovely food & lovely staff working behind the counter

Food a bit hit and miss. Sometimes excellent and on this occasion very greasy. Unfortunately no longer the best in Bicester. Fish and Chips are no longer a cheap treat and our expectations are high at this price.

We received, a friendly greeting when we went in to the shop. Bit if a wait for our order but thats ok because it was cooked fresh. The chips were lovely tasty and well cooked. However the batter on the fish was way to thick, also on the sweet side. Not crispy but claggy/chewy to eat, (obviously not eaten) and not cooked on the inside, although the fish itself was good. So expensive if you can't eat all of it. The batter mix just needed some wiping off before putting it into the fryer. Don't know if they mix their own batter or it is premixed, but too sweet. Shame really because the lady is very friendly, the guy who was doing the cooking too busy to say hello. Bonus parking at the door.

It was a really lovely and quality fish and chips takeaway until something has happened and the last two order wasn't so great. If talking about fish and chips we always going to Golden Kitchen since they are reopened as it is the best in town ,but last two occasions was a huge disappointment. Box-long fish, but half of it mainly deep fried breadcrumbs and other half is half dried fish meat. It was the second time in a row when had fish like this. Before , the fish was nice ,thick ,not so long but full of meat. I think it is time for us to find an other fish and chips bar ,but it will be difficult as Golden Kitchen was one of the best!

Highly recommend had our first meal from here tonight was really pleased will definitely be back again large portions and reasonable on price cant recommend enough :)

I have been to this chippie since it has opened back up. The food is fresh and tasty, I love it.

By far the best fish and chips in Bicester. Waited so long for this re-open and what a treat!!

We arrived at a busy time on a Friday and so the wait was nearly 30 mins. I had fish and chips which I enjoyed but others in our household thought the batter was a bit too greasy. I would go again but choose a better time.

It's never disappointed. Good sized portions, friendly staff and quick service. They'd get 5 stars if they got a card machine, however Co-op 3 doors down would probably complain as no one would go in there and buy something that they don't need just to get cash-back!
