Excellent when open to the public. Suffers from a conveyor belt of weddings at weekends, in which case head south to The Sekforde or Slaughtered Lamb. Mid week head north to the Dame Alice Owen.

Servizio attento e veloce

We had an incredible incredible wedding reception at The Peasant! Nick and all the team were amazing help from the initial planning stages right through to the day! Nick answered all our questions, helped us find a great DJ (DJ Catfight), and even got Tayto crisps in for the evening! We always wanted a wedding in a proper London pub, and there’s no better than The Peasant for it. Everyone raves about the food, especially the French onion soup, the scotch eggs, and the roast dinner! Everyone raved about the venue, the food, the decoration, the Guinness on tap; the entire team made our day really amazing! Wish we could do it all again!

Nice Sunday Lunch … starter of duck terrine was excellent, calamari was ok. Roast beef was cooked as requested ie pink , and there were plenty of accompaniments eg cauliflower cheese, potatoes etc etc etc. Meal was slightly cold but passable and the mains came just as we were only just finishing our starters which was far too quick.

Booked two weeks in advance arrived 18:30 on a Sunday to be told 5 of the main menu items were 'gone'. The chap serving after was good, the lady who delivered the 'there is no food left' why? 'because it was popular at lunch time could not have been less interested. There was no atmosphere and we were the last people there after an hour. If they are only open for late lunch not dinner they should say so. Disappointing.

We visited The Peasant for lunch earlier this year, during a busy mid-week service. The food, the staff and the decor of the venue were so spot-on that we decided to come back....and bring all of our friends and family with us, for our wedding reception. It was the best decision we made, and we wouldn't change a thing. Look through the glowing reviews and book your table/party at The Peasant in full confidence that you will LOVE it! - Nick and his team made it a total breeze (the lead-up was so easy, Nick helped us to make decisions, use our budget well and shared his masses of experience) - It was refreshingly affordable to have the day we wanted (without compromising on quality at all) - The food was exceptional (people are still talking to us about the scotch eggs and the fact that they could pick their meals on the day) - The pub looked stunning, even better than we had hoped (huge kudos to the staff for hanging / placing our many decorations without any bother) - Everything happened on time and smoothly (not once did we feel stressed, the staff are just fantastic. Our wedding cake appeared as if by magic!) - The DJ recommendation from Nick was perfect (DJ Catfight - don't miss out on him) And finally, to top it all off - when we arrived the next morning to pick up our things (which had been boxed up for us perfectly), there were two Bloody Marys and a big smile waiting for us. What a pub!!! Can't wait for our next visit.

The peasant is a fine looking pub with tall ceilings and original ornamental tiles. The staff are friendly and go out of their way to help. BUT the food is not up to scratch compared to other pub food. The fish and chips should be simple to get right, but the fish is tasteless, perhaps frozen too long, and the batter is tough and unpleasant. The chef needs to pay more attention to ingredients and storage. I hope something improves soon, for the moment it’s just good for drinking and crisps.

We had an absolutely spectacular wedding at the peasant. Nick was fantastic at helping us organize, helping every step of the way and making lots of helpful suggestions, and he really helped make the day special. And all the staff on the day were fantastic and friendly as well. The venue is lovely and beautifully decorated so we barely needed to do much extra decoration ourselves besides some flowers on the tables. At ~72 people were were close to the venue capacity but it didn't feel cramped at all and everyone had a wonderful time socialising eating and dancing. The food is spectacular and it was great that people were able to select what they wanted to eat on the day instead of ordering ahead. And while the main meal was fantastic what all our guests were really raving about afterwards was the canapes before the meal and the snacks served later in the evening (the scotch eggs and sausage sandwiches got a lot of mentions). Highly recommended for a wedding or another big event.

This is a pub that we used to frequent for Sunday Roast in our neighborhood. We have since left London and recently came back to have their Sunday Roast. The food has gotten even better through the years, my husband had tears in his eyes while eating it because the food is amazing as always and the ambiance is just perfect. Any items on the Sunday Roast menu is good, whatever meat you get (i.e. pork belly, chicken, and beef) would go really with their potatos, carrots, cauliflower, red cabbage, and Yorkshire pudding. Do yourself a favor, put a bit of everything on your fork/spoon with the sauce and eat it all in one bite, everything taste wonderful together. Eating at the Peasant every Sunday is like having American Thanksgiving over and over again. Don't forget to get their Sticky Toffee Pudding at the end, it's super nice.

We spent a lovely evening at the Peasant. Very nice atmosphere (they must have the biggest mirror I have ever seen across the bar) and superfriendly personnel. Both guys were very welcoming, uncomplicated and friendly and took the time for quick chat when they took our orders and/or brought us our drinks/meals. Our mothers were especially pleased to chat to the Polish waiter and exchange some memories of Poland with him. The food was absolutely delicious! Our server from Ireland was extraordinary. He was super kind and attentive. The roast itself was subpar at best. It was quite dry and there wasn’t much of it if you ordered the lamb or beef. The lamb and beef were both too tough. They were also very dry and overall not worth eating. The pork was fine. The side dishes were exceptional though. The Yorkshire pudding was super crispy and fluffy and sopped up the sauce very well. The cauliflower and cheese was an interesting combo that worked very well. As a person who doesn’t like cauliflower that was delicious. The pickled cabbage on the side added a nice sourness that contrasted very well with the salty sauce. The best thing we had by far was the sticky toffee pudding. The thicker sauce mixed with the ice cream was amazing. We ordered an extra scoop of ice cream. The sweetness of the pudding mixed with the hot sauce and the contrast of the cold ice cream. It was an amazing blend. They did a great job with the sticky toffee pudding.

Couldn’t have felt more like we were in the way. There was almost nobody else there, which was understandable given how early the staff started putting the chairs on the tables and spraying cleaning material around - almost a full hour before closing time. We were harried to order and eat before 8:30 because the kitchen was closing early - not surprising given the lack of people, but there was a strong sense of chicken and egg about that! I hope they turn this around, the food is good and the building is very pleasant.

We just had our wedding party at The Peasant and it was BRILLIANT! Nick is the perfect host with the warmest smile. He makes you feel very relaxed even though your head is spinning! Everything from the decor, to the range of drinks, to the neighbourhood, to the private balcony on the first floor is impressive but the food and the service and the dining room itself is incredible. You get the choice of three starters, mains and desserts on the day! The portions are so generous to say the least (I was very nearly leaving my pudding), and the flavours are delish. The first floor room where you have the meal was ideal for our 70 guests but I'm sure Nick can squeeze a few more in if needed. The room itself is beautiful. Tall windows all around which means natural light throughout. It was almost like we were dining al fresco! The best bit about the room was even although there were 70 guests it felt completely intimate. After the meal we came downstairs for the singing and dancing and again it was an ideal space for our day guests and evening guests. We can't say enough good things about The Peasant and we will definitely be back to sample the quality food and drink and more importantly the hospitality. Good luck for the future and to all who are looking for a London venue then we 100% recommend The Peasant.

You would not know you are in North London by coming to The Peasant, it has a lovely neighbourhood feel to it. Although it's on a corner, the traffic did not seem especially busy on the outside tables while having a pre-dinner drink watching the world go by. It handy for Islington, Sadlers Wells theatre and a 5/10 walk from Farringdon. The food was surprisingly good, standard pub fare but at a decent price and hearty portions. My sausages and mash was delicious, perfect mash with gravy and veggies. The duck leg came with a big slice of potato dauphinoise and some rather yummy red cabbage, it was all very filling. Prices were very good for the location, total came to £62.43 including 12.5% service and a bottle of house red @ £23. Service was spot on, friendly and attentive. The Peasant is very dog friendly too so bring your pet along and enjoy the hospitality on offer at this little jewel.

Best not to eat there during the week. All the reviews say that they do a great Sunday lunch so I should probably not have chanced it on a week day. The food was beyond awful. A jerk chicken burger for £15.50 was a pan fried chicken breast in a bun. It was an insult to call it jerk chicken. Some of the items listed on the menu were not in the burger. The chips it came with were fine but there were only 3 small onion rings. Probably the most expensive burger I’ve had in a long time given the quality. Also for a pub in Islington I can’t believe that they only have 2 types of tonic: ordinary tonic or slimline. Won’t be going back in a hurry.

The Peasant is a lovely old pub with a fabulous history. The food is delicious and well cooked but way too big on the portion front to the extent it's quite off putting. The pork belly slice was the perfect amount but the Yorkshire pudding almost took over the plate and had to sit on top of the meal as the 3 huge roast potatoes filled the other half. A lovely traditional corner pub in Clerkenwell with windows all around the venue offering lots of daylight and panoramic views. I loved the picture framed walls and glass panelling on the internal doors. We had a pleasant experience, the service was attentive, fast and friendly, the venue had plenty of space and not crowded. We were recommended by a friend and have seen great Instagram images. The menu looked great on paper which made us book, we asked for a Children’s menu and they didn’t have one on paper but offered smaller portions of fish and chips or roast beef, they weren’t flexible on children’s roast chicken which meant we had to pay more and which meant there was wastage of food hence the low score on value. The portions were generous and the plate looked great! The Yorkshire pudding was large as our heads, which the children loved.

This is such a great spot for an evening out! The pub itself feels super cozy yet lively and the service is amazing. We were helped by a lovely server, Amelia!
