Staff are absolutely terrible. Took them 30 minutes to tell me that my daughters chicken sandwich was unavailable due to there being ‘no chicken’ whilst not telling me this when I ordered it. 30 minutes! Just to clarify - it was not busy at all… yet still took over 50 minutes for a couple of sandwiches.

Food average and atmosphere awful. Miserableness of staff only matched by grumpy old customers. Not sure why they have a soft play area when the ageing clientele clearly dislike having youngsters running about.

Lovely cafe truly ruined by a truly awful dragon of a manager. She is rude and offensive to visitors and staff alike. They have a nerve calling the place the Peacock Room when the woman clearly hates the lovely birds and has been witnessed assaulting them on more than one occasion. It was lovely to see the birds in the park but I worry for their safety whilst she is in their environment.

This cafe has such a perfect position within our beautiful Glen, but unfortunately there is a member of staff that totally sours the experience. I have been reprimanded by her once before, for moving chairs from another table, so our party could sit together. (I ensured that noone else needed the chair and I ensured I wasn't blocking the exits or surrounding area). This time I was severely reprimanded for giving my children (childminder) their fruit, some provided by parents, some through Fife Council snack funding. We ensure our children eat a healthy and varied diet, so it's always fruit first. As a party, we had purchased coffees, juice, flapjack and crisps and usually buy a second hot drink each - as I totally understand and agree that we must purchase goods on the premises. I believe it was the manager who approached me in a very confrontational manner - I have never been approached in this way in any other cafe/shop and it was very demeaning. She said were we aware we couldn't provide our own food, I explained I had bought snack but they were eating our healthy option first, then she said we could buy fruit there - 50p per piece, only apples and kiwis available - not a great variety when dealing with toddlers and some who have allergies. She then proceeded to tell us to remove the children's fruit from them, after they were half way through eating. We couldn't believe it - and she implied that she would do it herself. We were all so taken aback by her rude manner and I truly can't believe that Fife Council are happy that customers are being treated in this way, especially by a senior member of staff. There is a way to get your point across without being rude, aggressive and confrontational. I'm aware that there are other similar reviews so really think some training may be called for and I intend to voice my concerns to management. I might add that some of the staff are lovely, welcoming and friendly but it appears that the manager has an issue with childminders specifically as other customers present were not treated in the same way even although they were providing their own food to their children. We do not outstay our welcome, we always tidy our area when leaving and we are polite to staff. Truly appalling experience.

We visit the tearooms weekly and sometimes twice a week. The young girls are always lovely and very sweet but on our most recent visit things were not good at all. I have a heart condition so carry my own de-caff tea with me to ensure that the teabags have not come into contact with anything containing caffeine which is dangerous to my condition. We always offer to pay full price for the tea and have no issue to do so. On this occasion an older woman with a face like fizz, on hearing my husband request that the tea was made with the bag we had brought, sidled up to the young girl serving us and whispered to her. When she moved off, the young girl said "I am sorry, but I have been told, that I have to charge full price". The girl was clearly embarrassed as were we. We said it was no problem, but it was very rude to sidle up and whisper when we were two feet away. To simply say "I am sorry, but we have to charge even if you do bring your own teabag would have been fine, but the sidling and whispering was just very unprofessional. We were then overcharged and the same rude woman had to be called to resolve the matter. She came over asking loudly who wanted a refund. The young lady had said she needed a manager's code to issue the refund but we were hard pushed to imagine this uncouth and rude woman is a manager!! If she is, I would respectfully suggest it is time to replace her. By the time she had issued the refund, our drinks were cold, so we will be going to the High Street next weekend rather than the tearooms which is really sad to say. We think the Glen is a fantastic place and love to visit the peacocks but rude, surly serviced is just uncalled for so we will vote with our feet. When you hear the name, you imagine a well kept, vibrant outlet with friendly service, this was more of a drab pigeon.

Being from Dunfermline, the Glen is always one of our favourite places to visit and spend quality family time. We often pop into the Peaock rooms for lunch, as it is right in the cente of the Glen. The staff are always friendly and helpful. The menu is not massive, but we always find something tasty to eat. They always have a selection of cakes, scones and tray bakes too, for those with a sweet tooth. We love being able to sit and look out over the park area, watching the world go by. There is also seating outside, for those warmer days!

5* for the lovely cafe and the outdoor seating with views over the park are amazing in the sunshine, also cannot fault the coffees and bacon rolls…delicious! Unfortunately a lovely break for refreshments was spoiled by rude staff, they appeared annoyed when taking customer orders then banging the plates of food on the tables when serving was unnecessary. Will give it a miss in future, take refreshments with me and sit on a bench and enjoy the fantastic park.

Arrived at 13.55. Advised that no cooked food was available. We could have coffee and cake, take out only. We asked to sit outside on the terrace and told no, take out only. The lady said they only serve until 14.,30, so not sure why next to nothing in the cafe was available and we could not eat in at 13.55 - perhaps she thought it was 3pm? This is not the first time the cafe had a limited choice and was closing before the stated time. I understand it is managed by the council. Perhaps it’s time this cafe is outsourced because it could and should be a fantastic destination place for locals and visitors to dine. It appears it is run to suit the staff rather than customers! Ended up going to cafe fresh opp city chambers and got a fantastic welcome and could choose from a wide range of available fresh and delicious food.

Never having been before my Husband picked up our yorkie & we went in the cafe & headed straight to the door leading outside when a member of staff started shouting & wagging her finger ' Ye canny bring dugs in here, nae dugs in the cafe' I said 'How do we get to the outside seating then' still raising her voice she proceeded to tell me 'I had to go roond the side & up that way' and for added measure another 'Ye canny bring dugs in here' thrown in. Having been in the hospitality trade for many years & also knowledgeable with regard to environmental health rules I am far from stupid & the way in which I was spoken to made my blood boil. A simple 'Oh I am afraid you will have to go round the other way as we do not allow dogs through here' would suffice. Perhaps they should use the profits from this place to send their staff on a course to learn some courtesy towards customers!

The prices were reasonable but there wasn't a huge amount of choice on the menu. It is obviously popular with parents and children with having the soft play area so it can be quite loud as well. Lovely setting with a great view. Cafe is modern and well maintained. Menu isn't extensive but what's on it is more than sufficient for a quick bite at lunchtime, a breakfast roll, or just a cake and coffee, plus kids pick'n'mix boxes.. Food is fairly well presented and decent value. There's a free (as long as you purchase something from the café) soft play area for toddlers which is ok albeit a bit timid. Only negative is the soft play police who rather than welcome you seems to walk about repeating herself to families with taller children that they are too tall for the soft play, even if they are sitting at the table (or even just in the queue for food and drink) with no intent of using the facility. Other than her I've found the staff all friendly and helpful. Despite that though this is a lovely venue and will be back I'm sure.

Located at the northern end of the park, it's food was lovely for the price, sandwich, panini and drinks for a tenner, not bad at all, plus you can sit outside with your dogs.

My wife and myself had decided to take a stroll in Pittencrieff Park on a wet and cool February day and after visiting the local museum and park went into the Peacock Rooms for a bit of appetite therapy. The service was quick and polite with a good variety of food on the menu. The restaurant also serves all day breakfasts, panini's,filled rolls and a host of home made cakes. The drinks menu is as extensive with a great coffee selection , teas, and wines should the occasion merit. Prices are in line with most restaurants elsewhere but don't let that put you off as you can gaze out on acres of beautiful parkland whilst the kids (if you have any) play in the soft play area within the restaurant. As I said we visited in February and I know that this place is very busy during the summer months due to its reputation of offering quality food and drink so my advice is to phone first before you travel.....and enjoy!

While the prices can be pretty high depending on what you get, the location is beautiful and the children soft play area is perfect. We have visited on many occasions and it is one of our regular place to visit. Close to the play parks and car parks. If I go with my other half we normally buy the high tea and its lovely :) The staff have always been helpful and very happy.

Asked for a double expresso. She gave me 2 expresso in the same cup and charged me 4,20£. All the coffee shops in the world charge no more than 1,75£ for a single and 2,10£ for a double...

Beautiful setting in Pittencrieff Glen ,nice modern building with standard menu ,average food , they advertise childrens boxes for £5.but have no boxes for them ,the selection for this is pretty poor in comparison with other places It is an ideal meeting place for friends and a coffee .I think they could do a lot better here ,they have spent a lot of money on the very modern building with great views but have not looked at what they could achieve with a bit of inspiration

I visit the Peacock room regularly and have always found it really good value and super tasty. I especially love the afternoon tea. The cherry scones are the best I have ever tasted.

Place your order at the counter and it's brought to you in a few minutes. We chose seafood platters and were very agreeably surprised by the offering. Three pieces of smoked salmon with a little dish of prawns in a cocktail sauce, salad and brown bread to butter. It obviously had not been lying drying our - fresh and delicious. My only quibble was that it was difficult to find a menu, so we took one from a table. Not even a menu on the wall by the counter. Still, that aside, staff were pleasant and efficient, food good and the views over Pittencrieff Park lovely.

Very bust and very friendly staff, who do not bat an eyelid at the children enjoying themselves. There is a separate play area inside. Tables on the balcony outside for those whose kids are just that bit more adventurous. A welcome stop for a cuppa.

Knowing that there was a soft play area inside and it was half term, I was sure there might be some noise coming from kids having great fun and was glad there was, so my daughter could join in. All parents seemed to have control over their kids and what a wonderful place to have coffee, a tasty bacon bap and meet up with friends. I'm sure it is noisy to those without children, just popping in for a coffee so to those who do so, be warned.. There is a soft play area and it is possibly going to be quite busy. It's so nice to have a wonderful child friendly place like that and as long as parents are responsible then I'd go there again. Coffee and food are great and the setting is wonderful. It's not often families are made so welcome in cafés. Thank you.

I have visited the Peacock Rooms a number of times over the past few years and enjoyed its wonderful setting particularly when the weather allows sitting outside on the terraced area. The layout of the service area is problematic but the staff over the past year or so have definitely improved their quality of service.I usually have tea/coffee and scone with occasionally some warm tasty soup and have found them to be of good value & standard. When busy it seems to take very long for individual orders to be sorted out which I feel is mainly down to the poor layout of the very restricted service area - which the staff have to make the best they can of.The main downside to this otherwise ideal setting in the Glen is parents allowing children to run amok throughout the seated area with noise levels booming all over in a building that has little in the way of sound dampening. A revamp of the soft play area has helped to an extent but a small but significant number of parents who have no thought for others or control over their offspring really cause a major issue. The management need to do something about it as I have never witnessed this problem to such an extent in any other cafe/restaurant that I have visited. So a cafe in a great setting in a wonderful park with good basic teas, cakes (including Gluten Free) and reasonable food BUT beware the noise if you are unlucky enough to pop in when the noisy minority are present. Can I ask anyone so affected to complain to the management as we can in numbers get this unnecessary problem sorted!

service - non existent, price - extortionate, cleanliness - not here, wrappers and rubbish all over the floor, no loo roll in the toilets, locks on doors don't work, paid over twelve pounds for a coffee, can of juice, two double biscuits and a fruit shoot. went in here to try it because it was off season and the weather wasn't fab but in future I will stick to the ice cream van outside as its better value for money anyway.

This family restaurant sells drinks and light meals in a light and airy building within a lovely park. The food is light meals only so it is more a posh café than a restaurant. My wife and I regularly visit after a shopping trip in the town or a walk in the park. It is a nice place with a strong family focus. It had a play room for young children. Here is where the problem lies. Parents do not consider the other guests in the restaurant and allow their young children to run about the floor areas outwith the play room, Young kids playing are noisy which is fine but to allow them to play in the actual restaurant and not restricted to the play room is unfair to other guests. It shows a total lack of consideration by the parents for others. The manager of the place should be instructed to talk to the parents to this effect.

We only visit once a year so can't comment on regular visits. Today we had a latté, pot of tea, diet coke, two scones and a flapjack. At £10 I thought that was good value! The service was pleasant and quick. The location is great. Bit noisy in the play area but we sat on the veranda - no problems at all. Happy to go back.

Went in today for a cup of tea and a juice. Was a busy day for them with the park being so busy, nice service, reasonably priced and those that were eating there seemed to have nice food. If we were back I would give it a try for lunch.

Dreadful value for money. I was charged £7.20 for two espressos and an ice lolly!!! The interior wasn't even that luxurious to make it worthwhile spending that much!In fact they were putting the chairs up on tables and told us in no uncertain terms that they were closing in 15 minutes. But there was still 15 minutes to go!!!! So we had to take chairs down to have a seat to drink our very expensive coffees. Very unwelcoming staff with a 'couldn't care less' attitude. They were more interested in going home than good customer service. We won't be back!

Went for lunch on Friday with colleagues from work, first impressions; quite cramped at the counter, if you have so little space then maybe table service would be a better idea. The menu seemed ok if a little over priced for what it was, but the cakes & scones looked fabulous, ordered soup while others ordered sandwiches, a little mix up with order but soon sorted, although waitress looked far from happy, portions were of a good size, ordered chocolate cake very dry, but my friend had a scone with jam & cream which she really enjoyed. we asked for hot water as tea was a little strong you'd think we had asked for a free lunch... but they did give us it. To be honest the whole lunch was spoilt by children running up and down screaming & shouting with stools from the play area, it was a lovely day take them outside to play, although there is a play room, which was where the stools came from, I know kids like to make noise but racing up and down while the waitresses are carrying hot food is very risky, wanted the staff to advise parents about play area, but nothing was done. On the whole I would go back but probably check before ordering. One last thing staff members it's ok to smile and enjoy your job.

What a disappointment ! Fife Council should be ashamed of themselves wasting tax payers money on sub standard, tasteless food accompanied by bad service from people who would clearly rather be working elsewhere. What a location - how can they get it so wrong !! Don't waste your money going here. Go to abbots house instead, lovely coffee and cake (if a bit pricey) and they let dogs in

Food sub-standard, service luke warm and tables/highchairs dirty.Visited the Peacock Room on Friday as an in-service day treat...what a let down! We had a ham and cheese platter, a cheese and bean baked potato, a chilli chicken wrap and a prawn marie-rose wrap. None of us could finish our food. The cheese was the plastic slice type, and the marie- rose and chilli sauce seemed very cheap & mass produced. Everything had a synthetic taste. The garnish and fruit on the platter was fresh which was really the meal's only redeeming feature. I bought cakes afterwards to make up for the disappointing main course, these were average but we managed to eat them. My accompanying coffee was weak.Tables had dirty trays and the floor and highchairs were filthy.Someone who knows how to deliver good food on a budget needs to be employed at the Peacock Room before word gets round!

I went back after one miserable experience as I thought it had to be better.Approaching the counter, I was greeted with "Yes" not a good morning can I help you or a smile, just a blank frozen face providing an answer of "Yes"I bought a coffee and vowed I would not return or recommend guests. It felt even in the morning I was putting the staff out. Customer care and attention to detail is non-existent. Heaven help wedding parties, I hope they get a better service. Its a great building with superb potential in awesome surroundings, but until they get rid of that local council cheap attitude as if they are doing you a favour, this place will never be a success.

We asked for an afternoon tea, the waitress gave the order to the cook who rolled her eyes and they both laughed. We felt we were putting the staff out in some way with our order. The lettuce on the sandwiches had obviously seen better days it was disgusting. The bread was hard and not enjoyable at all. The cafe looks like it needs a good clean the windows were filthy. Perhaps it was because it was near the end of the day !

Visited this lunchtime with service users. Food was ok although 2 of the baked potatoes were very small with hardly any filling, the 3 filled rolls all good, no complaints. The issue arose when it came to paying, quite disorganised. The gentleman became visibly stressed, struggled to find the price of most items. We needed individual receipts + as the till didn't print these, they needed to be hand written, he didn't know what to do + when he asked for help he was told "he's busy" + "I've not a clue, sorry", there was a woman standing close by who looked like she could've helped but didn't. I made eye contact a couple of times but she just let him muddle on through. I ended up saying to him to forget about the receipts and I would do them myself on return to work. He was so anxious, really felt for him. He needed support + didn't get any. Wasn't a pleasant experience. I've worked with adults with additional support needs for nearly 20 years + have an autistic stepson. I'm all for places like Sensoriale but please support the staff to be the best that they can be.
