Incredible food, fresh ingredients and great service. My only slight moan would be ambience more cafe-like than restaurant but the quality of the food outweighs this. Haven't tried the takeaway but will definitely in the future.

Myself and 10 other colleagues came here for dinner, which was prebooked weeks in advance however when we showed up, the man at the bar seemed shocked and quickly went up stairs to push the tables together. The tables were chipped and had bits missing from them, the chair legs were all wobbly and the plates have chips in them also, it really let the place down. Food was ordered and all came together, everyone seemed to have enjoyed it and the staff worked hard in serving us all drinks, making our food and making us welcome. Nice restaurant, could do with a freshen up off the items mentioned. The female toilet also needed a clean, the dust on the hand dryer was embarrassing! All in all, a lovely night!

Visited the restaurant on Saturday 22nd of October to collect a takeaway for 4 people and told them we wanted to collect an hour later. The order was for onion bhajis,3 Biryani's and 1 Chicken Tikka Massala.when I got to the restaurant there was a 5 minute wait until the order was brought out which was fine. When we opened the bag we first tried the bhajis which were inedible as they were like dry dough balls with no onion taste at all. The Byrianis faired no better unfortunately,as they were the house special and cost more than the other Byrianis,we had high Hope's but unfortunately with the rice being too dry and no individual meat flavours being obvious, the 3 Byriani eaters only ate a small portion of the very poorly cooked and tasteless meals.Without doubt the worst Indian takeaway I've ever eaten(or not). Our joint conclusion was that the meal had been cooked when ordered and reheated when we called to collect despite saying we would collect an hour later, never again unfortunately!

This was our first visit here in years. We used to be regulars - had one bad experience so stopped going. We were curious to see what it was going to be like after rebranding/changing hands. We booked a table in which we had to wait for. The lady behind the bar was friendly. Once we got upstairs it took about 5 Mins for them to bring menus over. Drinks were ordered but not correct. Had no sparkling water & forgot my coke. The young chap with blonde hair made it very clear he didn’t really know what he was doing. We had to prompt him to take our order and when clearing plates he kept dropping things ‘It’s my 4th week’. ‘Sorry I’m not very professional’. If it was his first week we’d understand but not 4th!! The food was impeccable. So tasty, piping hot and fresh, came out very quickly. Service was very strange and made us all feel a little awkward. “Is the bill Gorgeous?” Don’t think we’ve ever been asked that before?!!

Been waiting for a few years to get into this restaurant after many recommendations. Finally managed to get a booking as quite popular, and now I see why! The food quality is excellent and service is good. Price is a little higher than expected but you get what you pay for....Good size portions and quality produce. Looking forward to returning, or even trying as a takeaway. I would have no hesitation in recommending this as one of the very few best Indian restaurants I have eaten at.

This unexpected little place right by Swanwick Station is a total gem. Food is delicious with all the familiar tandoori staples (and some more innovative specialities) given an original makeover. Beautifully spiced and presented, this will be our Swanwick go-to from now on. Staff are friendly and enthuiastic. Book ahead, though, because this place is small although they will do take aways.

This lovely Indian restaurant is located in the old station master’s house which was built in 1888 at Swanwick Station from which locally grown strawberries were transported all over the country. There is a good extensive menu with all the normal choices of Indian sauces with your choice of chicken, lamb, prawn or vegetable. We shared poppadoms and a selection of pickles (mango, lime, onion and mint) as a starter, I chose the lamb rogan and my friends each had a different curry, one with lamb, one chicken and one vegetable, accompanied by pilau rice, mushroom rice, plain naan and garlic naan. We all agreed that the food was really good and inexpensive. Although every table was taken, the service was very quick and friendly.

We have been coming here for 20 years and found it to be consistently good with Anwar the chef doing a good job. However it has recently been taken over, refurbished and renamed the Darjeeling. Standards really have slipped, stale chewy popadoms, cold Tandori chicken and chicken tikka that had to be sent back to be microwaved. Then to end it all they overcharged us by £5 on the bill. It’s a real shame, hopefully they will improve.

Curry on a Friday night. Despite having booked a table we had to wait and were then crammed into a corner. The people jammed next to us had their food dropped. The Chicken dopiaza had no tomatoes in it, and not much chicken. The food was not particularly hot when it arrived. It was okay, but unlikely to return Also, no hand towels / dryer in the the toilets?

This was quite possibly the worst Indian we have ever experienced. The food was poor, too much oil, no delicacy in flavour, too much colouring. The chicken kebab was served and for the life of me I do not believe it was chicken. I eat chicken everyday so a brown coloured and red meat tasting kebab just didn't strike as chicken. The meat samosas are so full of potato that both appetizers are almost reportable to trading standards for incorrect product descriptions. The chicken patia was the worst ever eaten and the aubergine curry was bland and tasteless. Only the chana masala was passable. When you add the mediocre service and aged decor of the restaurant into the mix along with a men's toilet door that is difficult to lock.....this restaurant is unlikely to feature on your must visit list. Thoroughly disappointed since previous visit three years ago was pleasant. Avoid at all costs.

Went in as a leaving party of 9 - the Park Gate is conveniently located in the former station master's house at Swanwick Station a 5 minute walk from the pubs and restaurants of Park Gate. The restaurant is upstairs with the bar, kitchen and toilets downstairs. It has recently been re-decorated and looks smart upstairs. Service was slow but very friendly. Starters were all fine but my main course of chicken tikka balti was so salty that I only ate half. The bill with a 10% tip was £300 so we all thought it was expensive for the two courses - that said we were offered complimentary liquers.

Then again, this is Park Gate so you probably haven't accidentally mistaken it for The Fat Duck. Generally, you'll find yourself having a good meal at a good price within walking distance of home. There are the odd occassion when it lets itself down (normally when the owner isn't cracking the whip in the kitchen) but else its good. If you want better head to Southampton or Southsea (but take into consideration the extra costs involved). And hosanna, they've cleaned the carpets!

The guy literally snarled when you spoke to him!We were given a bottle of wine which wasn't what we ordered and it was clearly off when we tasted it - when advising the waiter of this he just took it from us with an irritated look and walked off silently. We had to go to another waiter and explain to which it was kindly replaced with another bottle we hadn't actually ordered. The first waiter was rude but in defence of the next waiter, he was a lot nicer.I used to come here regularly throughout the late 90's and early noughties but this place has definitely gone down hill. I have not eaten here for a few years - used to be a regular but after a very bad experience - we all felt ill after a takeaway - thought I would give it another go.The small bar was packed and a large number of people were ordering take-always - all regulars - so a good sign that my curry would be good.I ordered chicken madras, rice, chapati and some popudums .. The manager "lost my order" but as I was drinking a pint of Cobra and in no rush - no big deal.Pros takeaway was not coldCons - popudums were stale - clearly made some time ago and fried in very old oil - almost un edible. The curry was very poor - watery sauce with a tiny amount of watery chicken - really dreadful - the chicken portion was equivilient of a single tiny breast and was sourced from a cheap supplier - no texture what-so-ever. The sauce was really bad - watered down, tasteless - I couldn't finish the meal it was so bad.I gave you another chance ... Never again ! Why is it so busy ? We have ordered from Park Gate Tandoori on a few occasions, more out of necessity due to a lack of decent Indian restaurants locally. The food is normally ok, nothing special, and a reasonable price. A tip... arrive 15-20 mins late and you'll arrive perfectly on time. I'm sure they try to get you to arrive early in order to wait and offer you an expensive drink. Never eat in the restaurant, it's small, tired, tacky and not worth the evening out. Eating in the restaurant will also subject you to the pretty poor service and swearing from the kitchens below - provided free of charge by the grumpy cook/manager.

The food was ok, but lacking any wow factor. The curry was obviously tailored to English tastes, so lacked the authentic Indian sensation. The staff were very pleasant and efficient, although a side order of roti was omitted with the main food order and arrived after querying its absence. The decor was a little tired with blue tak remaining on walls, left over from some special event.I think I will explore other Indian restaurant options before returning.

We used to eat here regularly but have not visited for a few months and was really ill after Sunday night meal. Cleanliness has deteriorated and doubt if we will return now.

Just got back from a fantastic evening at the Park Gate Tandoori. I should mention that I am not a regular but on arrival I was greeted like a frequent appreciated local !!! The barman, who I think was the owner was full of jokes and banter. We had a slight delay waiting for our table but it is Saturday night after all. The waiter was first class, entertaining and attentive. The food was excellent, I wouldn't change a thing and I will definitely return.

All in all OK, food was OK and service to match. Prawns were dirty and the butter chicken was so greasy that I was put off. This is an old school Indian and there were a lot of fellow diners who clearly come back again and again so they must be doing something right!

Difficult to rate, I wouldn't say it's average, it's not VERY good, but it is good. It's old school Indian and you know exactly what you are getting.Place was packed with lots of repeat customers.Staff were friendly, service was quick, a bit too quick to be honest, a bit more pace would have made my review overall very good.I personally thought the prices were very good, OK, beer isn't cheap (£4.40 a pint), but this is hardly unique in an Indian restaurant!

1st problem, I was a solo traveller staying at the local premiere inn, booked taxi to the local indian (about a mile walk) on a sunday evening only to be told when I got there, sorry no solo dinners. I advised the waiter I was a solo traveller, and it was a sunday night and as an ex pat I had not had an indian meal for two years, I was allocated a table. Food was as good as I could hope to have found, I cant fault it, kitchen was open for all to see, when I go back I will try to eat there again, (but I might be on my own, maybe they will turn me away?) in conclusion, food good, I would love to go back, its worth the taxi ride.

Very friendly and quick service. I've been wanting to try the food there for quite some time, after noticing the lovely smell that comes from this place while I have been waiting for a train at the station. First impressions aren't the best when you first arrive but we were approached seconds are entering the place and then taken upstairs, where it's much nicer but also very small. The atmosphere was good when the place started to fill up. Food was average overall, which I feel matched the price. I would go there again!

Me and my wife took our kids out for tea at the parkgate tandoori restaurant, waiters were friendly and polite. We had chicken tikka jalfrezi, chicken tikka masala, king prawn passanda, chicken korma, chicken tikka main, bhoona chicken, bindi bhaji, masala dall, Bombay potatoes, pilau rice and nans. The food was good and the service was very good there was one major problem the chef downstairs had a very disgusting mouth we could hear him swearing every second we were offended by the language he was using my kids never heard such bad language it's such ashame the food was lovely and the service too because of the bad language we won't be returning

been going here for over 10 years and whilst the service has always been a bit haphazard, the food has generally been good. Over the last year the quality has declined and the last time we were there the service was laughable. I did complain and we got the starters for free. Sadly I have started to go elsewhere for takeaways and to eat in.

We had heard 2 very good reviews about this restaurant so decided to give it a go. Sadly it did not live up to it. The first problem was with parking there was none that was easily accessible and then having fought our way through the takeaway crowd to upstairs we were met with a very abrupt waiter who showed us to our seats handed out menus then left us to it. We looked at the wine menu but the wine we ordered was not available and as we both like Zinfandel a French rose was not what we wanted. We had to ask 3 times for a jug of water that when it eventually arrived was very warm with no ice and only 2 glasses for 4 of us. We hoped the meal would fare better and although it was tasty it was barely warm which is surprising as the kitchen is only downstairs. The focus really did seem to be on the takeaway side with the waiter disappearing and being away for so long we thought he had left the building. The drama that was coming from the kitchens at one stage made us think there was a fight breaking out. There were only 12 customers in the restaurant at this stage so they were not that busy and a little more effort would have gone a long way. We didn't feel that the food made up for the rest of the poor service so will not be eating there again.

My wife and I have eaten here many times over the past few years its our 'default' curry house and we have never had a bad experience...staff are friendly and the food is fine for the level of restaurant. I'll admit its not the Ritz and some parts of the building could do with a bit of TLC but its just a simple curry house which for us always satisfies.

The PGT used to be my local curry house and I visited it a lot. Popped in for a nostalgia visit with some friends recently and was bitterly disappointed. We waited over an hour for our food, then gave up. The restaurant was mostly empty but there was still no sign of our meals. A quick nudge to the staff to hurry up was met with sarcasm, aggression, swearing, threats and name calling. After hundreds of visits over the last 5 years, I shall not be returning.

This review refers to the takeaway.Won't be going back. Ordered at 6:30p , told to collect in 25 minutes but was still waiting at 7:45pm!! His isn't the first time either. Got the food home, only 5 small pieces of lamb in my madras. Other than that I have to say the food is quite nice, just a shame every visit involves waiting in a cramped room for over an hour!Enough is enough, I won't be going back.

After having worked our way through many of the other Indians in the area we have been using this place for our weekly curry for the last couple of months. On the plus side the food is fairly good and fairly consistent. On the bad sideThey dont deliverThey always underestimate your order collection timeThey then make you sit in a small waiting room and try and sell you drinksThey wont bring your curry until you complain and they have realised you wont ever buy the drinksWhen your curry does arrive after complaining - it there within 10 seconds bagged and good to go but often cold as its been sitting there (while they try and sell you drinks)The ladies toilets is downstairs and Ladies - when you go - all the chaps in the waiting room can hear you. The staff are generally grumpy especially the older ones and seem to think standing 10 people in a room the size of a couple of phone boxes is quite acceptable. Its not - We will be taking our business across to Kutis.I cant comment on the restaurant service as havent been in a while but the ladies waiting this evening for their 7.30 table were still downstairs at 8.15 (but then again they were buying drinks so could still be there 4 hours later)

I have used this restaurant on many previous occasions but last night, 20th May 2013. I arrived and asked for a table for 1 to be told we don't serve a single person. As we are busy, I stood in an empty restaurant at 7:00pm. WON'T BE GOING BACK. Better food and service at the Highlands Tandoori, Highland Road, Fareham, only a mile or so away

I have been using this restaurant on and off for 8 years and sadly on the last 3 occasions, the food has been very poor. The service has always been questionable, the menu expensive but in recent times there has been a massive drop in food quality. When our dishes arrived, it was cold. The Lamb Rogan was quite frankly dreadful - the lamb, if that is what it was, was virtually solid. My vindaloo was passable but not up to the standard of other Indians I visit on my travels. Sorry guys, you will not be seeing us again and I would certainly advise others to stear clear!! The 3 out of 5 marking for cleanliness from environmental health does not bode well either!!

Working away on my own and I fancied a curry like I do every time I work away. Unfortunately they would not serve my because they have a company policy were single people can not eat in this restaurant. Out of hundreds of Indian restaurants I've eaten in this is the only one that wouldn't serve me!!! More fool them when we start the large contract!!!

Never had a take away, We always eat in. The food is fab (Some reviewers have said watery. I have never found this) The bar is tiny and usually standing room only on busy nights the toilets are through the bar so have to push past people if you need the loo!!, This brings me to the next point. The service can be really slow / poor on Fri / Sat nights when they are busy, I have even had food served lukewarm once, so best go midweek when you get much more attentive service. We usually go either Thurs or Sun. Overall we really like it and forgive it's shortcomings as we feel the food more than makes up for it. (They get 4 out of 5 from us due to service issues)

My best experience with Authentic Indian food. Best Korma and Tikka Masala in Town and my favourite Biryani.

I actually really enjoyed the food, only slightly late but the food was good quality, lovely and warm and really tasty. I ordered a vindaloo which was super tasty and bearable (sometimes it's nuclear hot) . I would definitely order again from here as the quality was very good. lovely poppadoms also.

We were recommended to try this Indian and we’re expecting great things, unfortunately we were left disappointed, there was nothing bad about the food but equally nothing good; it was just another very average meal with nothing to entice us back.
