Called in today (9.3.24)for a spot of lunch with a friend. The place has been refurbished since I last visited which is a few years ago and it looks lovely. The staff were very friendly and very accommodating. My friend had a chicken wrap which she enjoyed. I myself had a jacket potato with cheese and was disappointed with it. It was very dry like I was eating cardboard but ate it as I was hungry. It cost me £12.75 for a jacket potato, a bit of salad and a glass of pop which I found extortionate. Overall a very nice visit .

Superb venue. 11 diners visited for an 18th birthday meal. Fantastic food, lovely surroundings and a 1st class friendly service. Cannot recommend enough.

Lovely food but a bit expensive for some meals overall a nice venue for your Sunday lunch.

We had our first visit yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The service was excellent without being in your face. Will definitely be going back.

Not a great pub at all. Food was okay, nothing to write home about. Service was terrible, waitresses were moody, delivery of food was slow, order taking was lazy, only half cleared the table following mains - just generally very sloppy. Inside the menu there is a warning that service may be slow as food is fresh, that's not an excuse to be poor, particularly with the food not even being amazing! Inside was quite cold, music didn't really come on for an hour so not much of an atmosphere. We were pretty much the first group in the pub after opening, so the place wasn't even busy! Honestly a place to avoid and the prices aren't cheap either Will try the beehive further down the road next time

Had afternoon tea there this afternoon and it was Willy Wonka themed I must say it was absolutely delicious, would definitely go again

This is an amazing pub and the service is great, the only thing letting it down is the chef. 4 times we have tried food here and 3 times we have been left very dissapointed, from inedible steak and Stilton pie (mostly just cheese), soft, soggy, squid with a strange fajita spice mix on, to a full sized camenbert with 5 tiny pieces of bread, no where near enough to finish the cheese. The menu and chef need looking at. Apart from that the place is faultless.

prebooked a table for high tea 2pm on saturday. the place was quite empty probable due to bad weather. the high tea includes 5 savours (tomato soup, mini fish and chips, mini chicken in BBQ sauce burger, prawn cocktail and alcoholic drink)and 5 sweets (chocolate brownie, cheese cake, tiramisu, scone, pineapple fritter). the high tea was ok. the hunter chicken salad and chip was delicious. The ice cold latte was served in large jar. arrived 1pm on friday, the pub was relatively quiet. the prices of main meals may find a bit dear for some people. we ordered belly pork, moussaka and slow cooked beef. all of them were delicious. they were kindly changed the ice cream to custard for sticky toffee pudding for me. the dessert was good and not over sweeted.

Went to enjoy afternoon tea at the Parish Oven today (07/07/23). The theme was cocktails. The food, as always was delicious, in particular, the Bloody Mary Tomato soup - best tomato soup ever! Highly recommend everyone to try an afternoon tea here, you wont be disappointed!

We visited here tonight, we hadn't booked and it was incredibly busy but Billy managed to get us a table anyway. Couldn't fault the service despite how busy it was and all of the staff were incredibly friendly. The food was exceptional and the steaks were cooked to perfection! Can recommend the Reef and Beef as well as the mixed grill. Absolutely would return again. Big bonus is that they're dog friendly.

The food was really good high standard. Having been a while ago had an excellent duck breast cooked perfectly, I ventured back and had a lovely moussaka. The belly pork on a bed of mash is very nice. Would highly recommend a visit. Dog friendly pub.

Really great food, enjoyed everything. Country pub with a great friendly atmosphere. Only 4 stars for the service because I personally hate being the only one standing at the bar waiting a considerable amount of time when there're 3 members of staff milling around and can't be bothered to acknowledge your presence, maybe it's just me.... Would definitely recommend to anyone.

Absolutely delicious food and the service was great , well done to the waitresses it was definitely service with a smile , they were very pleasant and helpful and we will definitely call again . We found them on Facebook and decided we would give the place a go and it didn't disappoint

We returned to the Parish Oven having had a good experience earlier this year. Unfortunately this visit was extremely disappointing. Customer Service is severely lacking. We were shown to our table and told what wasn’t available on the menu. The waitress didn’t tell us what the specials were. We waited for her to return to take a drinks order…she didn’t! We had to go to the bar to order ourselves! After sometime a different waitress arrived to take our order. Our food arrived within a reasonable time, but no one came back to check if the food was ok…unfortunately it was mixed! Two of the meals were well cooked, two could only really be considered as less than mediocre. The venue was not busy (a bit concerning for a sunny Saturday evening) but it was difficult to get the attention of any member of staff. And when we did highlight the concerns with our food, we were offered to have the cost of one of our drinks taken off the bill! Having read some of the reviews on here, for some time there have been issues with staffing and customer service and unfortunately this has not been addressed! We won’t be returning!

Not very busy food ok service bit slow

Came a few weeks ago, the blonde haired girl working on the bar went above and beyond to make our experience enjoyable! Will definitely be returning.

I never write reviews but after our Sunday lunch experience yesterday, I felt a review is needed. This is such a beautiful venue & outstanding village location, the food & the staff are really letting it down! Someone needs to take note & action a change quickly as I’ve not been so disappointed in such terrible service & average food for a long time! I won’t list everything we experienced as it’s unfair. I just hope someone from the venue reads this and contacts me privately so I can advise how bad of an experience we all had as group of people who were so looking forward to a lovely Sunday lunch. Massive changes to management at this venue need to happen quickly! Such a shame & wont be recommending this venue as it stands at present.

Terrible in every way. We are here a few weeks ago and left a poor review on trip advisor which seems to have mysteriously disappeared! Be aware of lots of fake positive reviews on there. The food was utterly dreadful, the staff were rude and unhelpful and the whole experience was embarrassingly bad. To the point that I refused to pay the whole bill. Meat not cooked, half of menu unavailable, eternal wait for service. We were told this place had improved. It hasn’t. Avoid at all costs and be aware of good reviews! Trust me!

This pub is totally amazing. The atmosphere is perfect for a quiet dinner and the food is absolutely fantastic. I had pasta with seafood and from my proper Italian point of view it was the best pasta I have ever had here in UK!! Staff is amazing .. we have been served by Jack and he made sure that our dinner experience was smooth and lovely. The pudding was also delicious, I had chocolate brownie and it was warm and soft. Definitely we will come back!!

We had the March afternoon tea and wow there was loads and all fresh and beautiful. I hear its under new management and iv got to say was beautiful. If you haven't been recently give it ago .

Came here on a whim as our usual was fully booked. We booked online and were Seated earlier than the reservation as we were starving! Staff really friendly and helpful, accommodating with helping choose a nice wine. Ordered Sunday lunch, and I even asked for a slice of a second meat which was no problem. Food was absolutely incredible. Chicken tender and full of flavour and the gravy was out of this world. Everything fresh and tasty, and we have ditched the old local for the parish oven.

Lovely place just what you'd expect from a country pub. Had quite a wait for food ,think it may all be cooked fresh which is OK if told first so you know there could be a wait. Plenty to eat for me but maybe a bit more for the men.

Had a nice meal and drink here but it does not have the biggest choice on the menu! Not overly busy at lunch.

We had to eat in the bar. There were drinkers at the bar and their language was foul. No one stopped them. Will not go there again.

Waited nearly 2 hours for our food to arrive, and it was the worst meal we have ever had!

Afternoon tea, big disappointment! Poor quality food, nothing like the menu I'd been shown when I booked. Poor service waited 45 minutes for food to be brought to table, had to keep asking for things that were missing. Would not recommend at all!!

What an absolutely amazing place ... stylish, cozy, and the food is to die for! ... couldn't ask for better service from our waitress; great knowledge and recommendations. Had the Chicken supreme Kiev and was absolutely blown away by the flavour ... loved it!!!

Managed to get a table without booking, which was great ,as I know this place is always busy. Me and my partner ordered rump steak and chips , excellent cooking of the steak and the blue cheese sauce was delicious too. Onion rings and chunky home cooked chips were equally excellent. The only down side was the waitress , giving us the wrong steaks ,so we had to swap at the table from plate to plate ,as we'd cut into the steak to discover the mistake. The young lad that seated us wasn't that friendly either, seemed a little put out. Nevertheless, the chefs certainly made up for the rest.

Went here for food and drinks for a birthday celebration. Food was amazing, all locally sourced ingredients and paired beautifully. The atmosphere and decor is very calming making this place a brilliant stop on a journey or for a simple Sunday lunch.

Always gone to PO over the years. I don't know what it was we were greeted straight away wine on the table but nothing else I had to ask and order at the bar after 40mins. . Maybe it's the way they do it which I can live with but let me know on arrival. The staff were polite the food good Jury out

Do not eat here! Upon arrival to our booking at 4:00pm for a Sunday roast, we sat and all four of us wanted beef dinner, they told us there was no beef. I had also been to this restaurant the prior week and they told me the same thing but the waiter ended up bringing us beef anyway so it showed the lack of communication and disorganisation between the chef, management and staff. We wanted to give it another chance but safe to say they have blown it and won’t be returning. When our food came out, the food for what we paid was ridiculously small (see picture of mash potato especially!). When we asked the waiter if they honestly thought it was acceptable he was very honest with us which we appreciated and said no, we asked for extra mash and the waiter said that there was not enough potato. The manager Kyle came over and said to us “what’s the problem” so straight away we knew he wasn’t going to accept any kind of responsibility or take our opinions seriously and try and help us as his customer. When we asked him if he thought that the portion size was acceptable, his first words were “we have a large party booked tonight, so we are saving the mash”. We then said to him that we are paying full price like the large group are so why are we entitled to less of a portion size than them. It’s not our fault they haven’t stocked up enough, they should serve portion sizes normally and then if they run out, come up with a solution for those like any other restaurant. He then said to us “this is our normal portion size” which was clear he was trying to come up with an excuse for his original comment after probably realising how unprofessional he has been. No sign of any kind of apologetic approach, full bill paid and manager nowhere to be seen upon us leaving.

We went on a Tuesday at 1.45 and the pub wasn't busy. We didn't pre book but not a problem for the young man who worked in the food area. Decorated a little old fashioned with a mix match of furniture. We were given paper menus that had less dishes than the menu on line. But we had the food we wanted. I had a starter for first course and another as my main due to my small appetite and eating difficulties, no problem for the kitchen. We would give the food a lower star rating of 4 as some of it was not to our taste. Both burgers ordered came with ingredients on that were requested to be taken off, ie: onion, tomato and pickle sauce. But other than that were enjoyed by both diners. My soup was boiling hot, tasty and the warm ciabbata was lovely. My main/starter of scallops with pea puree and black pudding nibbles was lovely and scallops fried just right. We didn't have desert as too full and wasn't anything on it different to tempt us. There was a children's menu of usual child dishes but a good choice. Staff were friendly and service was good. We would go back and try some of other menu items if the menu is the same as the one online. Perhaps we would be better checking with the pub before hand. Thank you to the staff!

Yes ,a 5.Beautiful setting ,incredible seating, beer and other drinks excellent,service impeccable, surroundings astounding.The food menu ,no doubt,deserves a very good chance of pleasing every taste.Called the 'Parish Oven'because of the link with oven cooking through the years.Well worth a visit.

4 of us went for lunch but we hadn't booked. We were told that there was a party of 11 due in, in 15 minutes and that two food orders were already waiting. Top and bottom is that 'company policy' dictates that we may not get our food order for over an hour. Nice of the bar person to let us know but not an efficient pub. Worked out fine though because the next pub we went to was brilliant!

Superb food and great service. Online booking process was easy and fast, we didn’t wait long for our food and the portions were massive. Honestly didn’t have any room for desserts, but the food was so good we ordered them anyway

Very poor , limited menu , the staff are all young and walking about laughing and joking, presentation not good at all, This is a lovely pub that needs running by an older member of staff , in my opinion if your going to spend this kind of money. You want professionalism !

I enjoyed it. Pros. Lovely surroundings, tasty food, attentive service and just a nice atmosphere. Cons. Food was slow to come out, (40mins for five of us, and we were first on after they opened) also the chips were ridiculously salty.

Took a while for food to come out ...rock hard roasties ...veg had been covered in some form of pepper ...Saw that they had cook issues and family cooking ..suggested they check what was coming put on the plates before sending the food out ...not worth the £15.50 price tag that day x

Been wanting to go here for a while but kept forgetting so we took the opportunity when the in-laws were passing through to meet them there for lunch. We had a lovely time, the food was great, the restaurant is lovely and the staff are very helpful and willing. The staff are all very young so it was lovely to see them busying themselves, being very helpful, willing and actually able to talk to you. Very refreshing!! Only downside to the food is that the chips and wedges are over seasoned (I don’t like seasoning on chips) so if you’re the same, remember to ask them to hold the seasoning for you. Also, it’s not wise to season chips for children… my little boy refused to eat them. I’ve read reviews from other people and I’m glad to say we didn’t encounter any of their issues 👍

Never been before so decided to give them a whirl ! Food was exceptionally good I had gammon hubby had mixed grill with peppercorn sauce and we both had lemon cheesecake with ice cream was absolutely delicious We sat outside as lovely day and it's so peaceful and relaxing in this charming little village We will be back!

Food took an age to arrive even though it wasn’t even close to being busy. Low quality when it did arrive. The Garlic bread was clearly microwaved and very soggy. I did get a free human hair with my food so …

Very nice to be back again after 43 years. An updated traditional style pub with restaurant. The best we had in 1979 was Pie and Peas on a Friday or Saturday night. Visiting now, I'm happy to say the menu is quite varied and the food was cooked and presented to an excellent standard. A new menu has just been introduced which was causing a little confusion. The only complaint I have was that almost every pudding had chocolate in or on it so it was difficult to choose. Definitely will go again and will try some more of the menu.

The starters and main were really great but if you don't like chocolate in puddings that course was limited would go for 2 courses in future

We visited recently for wedding anniversary meal and was initially impressed, promptly seated and orders taken, starters came out quickly. It then started to get busier, and there simply was not enough staff on to manage the number of bookings. I think we then waited about 40mins for the main course to arrive, and my side orders came even later (after I had finished my meal). Nobody came to check if our food was OK and after finishing mains, we gave up on waiting for the desert menu to arrive and asked for the bill. The staff were polite and very, very busy rushing around, but not enough of them to meet the amount of bookings taken (and they were still squeezing more in who hadn't booked). Took the shine of what should have been a nice evening and will be reluctant to return, which is a shame since the food was really good.

Great meal, had the mixed grill and was not disappointed really good. My partner had the blade of beef and that was also very good definitely recommend

It was all going so well… until the end. So turned up, no booking. It was quiet, we were greeted by a young lady, she explained the restaurant was busy but we could eat in the bar. She was friendly, great service, good communication. Explained there could be a wait on food as it’s busy, again, great communication. Food came, both meals were correct. The food was good, reasonably priced, could of been seasoned better, especially as there is no seasoning on the tables. But overall good, good portions too. But then…. Still eating, the server came over to ask if you wanted any more drinks, they we closing at 10, this was 9.10 by the way. We ordered another round. Then one plate was finished, we were nibbling the chips left on the other and the young gentleman working came over, took the plate, no words. We just looked at each other, laughed and said how random. The young gentlemen then came over with the bill, said we were welcome to stay while 10. Didn’t even get offered dessert menu. The music went off and that was that. What started off so well turned into what felt like we had been made to feel like we had over stayed our welcome.

Lovely chicken, bacon and salad club sandwich, nice salad accompaniment with potato crisps too. We ordered a portion of French fries too, very large. All in all a good experience, polite staff very efficient. Really enjoyed it.

Visited on Sunday 8th with a group of friends and it was shocking, the menu for a Sunday dinner needs improvement as there was nothing our table of 6 wanted, one was a vegetarian, the guy came over three times and asked if we was ready and then said at half 6, well can you hurry because the kitchen is shutting in 10 minutes. We asked if there was a main menu as nothing was eye opening for us to be told no just this menu, so we rushed for a decision, The vegetarian guest had to have a Sunday dinner without meat which still cost her £16, The place was empty (our group only ones left) and the staff completely ignored us the whole night and left us waiting, no check back, no asking for another drink, it was that bad, the woman chef shouted at a staff member to clear our plates for us. We was there at least two hours and half. Very disorganised. We thought the bill wasn’t right either. Shame because your afternoon teas are lovely.

Lovely pub and decent food. Service was very slow and unorganised. Need to be a little more inventive with the veggie Sunday roast- roast without the meat isn’t very inclusive these days.

Lovely pub, great staff, food was good. I had the lamb which was lovely, friends had the lasagne which unfortunately was quite dry, needs more sauce but was tasty. Ambience is lovely and the server was amazing. For dessert I had the sticky toe pudding which in my personal opinion was awful, very gritty due to being made which dates. Didn't have sultanas in it which I hate so have it a go on the recommendation of the server so he didn't charge me for it as I didn't like it after all. Apart from that didn't have to wait long and there was a fair few family members in attendance.

Loved it! Went for afternoon tea, Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory theme, it was amazing and made such a change to not have sandwiches! Will definitely be returning!

First time here but not the last. Friendly staff welcome you to an open country feel of a bar area with comfy seating and tasteful decor. The menu was full of excellent choices and reasonably priced throughout. The meal was excellent and the service was spot on. I look forward to returning soon to try more delicious food.

We had heard a lot of people talking about this pub so we went at 6.30pm on a Monday night. Lovely setting and well presented. However, although the food was of good quality, which so it should have been for pricing, at best it was luke warm. We were seated at the rear of the pub out of sight of staff next to a table of 10, 6 of which were kids. I did feel having walked past penty of empty tables in quieter areas of the pub, we had been seated in the worst place possible. Thankfully after 20 minutes of barely being able to hear ourselves speak, they left. No check backs and despite having finished our food, sitting there waiting to ask for the dessert menu all the staff were too busy getting ready to go home to notice us. We decided against having dessert, paid and left. We had high hopes for this place but we wont be going back.
