Went here on a Wednesday, ordered the parish burger was incredibly tasty just too greasy but enjoyable! Boyfriend ordered the steak and Stilton pie he enjoyed it just a bit salty, overall with a drink each came to £44 bit overpriced for what you get, but still enjoyable 7/10 overall.

Such potential, but an odd experience. We were a large party and asked to pre order and pay a deposit. No issues, the online ordering system is amazing. They have each persons name and order. But on arrival, it goes down hill slightly. You're not greeted, or made to feel welcome in any way. When I asked to see where we were sitting, the response was nothing short of rude, made to feel like a burden, not a customer about to spend hundred of pounds. This attitude continued all evening. The food was delicious and the only reason to go again, but I'm not sure I can look past the rudeness of the manager / owner I presume, because anyone else in hospitality would have been let go by now. There were many examples of rudeness and just not being helpful, one example.... The food came out and instead of using the online system to it's full potential and calling our names, there were lots of very obvious eye rolls that we couldn't remember what we'd ordered 3 weeks ago. The guy seems to be on the spectrum, so I don't want to sound to harsh, but if he don't get some people skills training, it will damage the businesses full potential. Food spot on though.

Delicious traditional pub food in a spacious, wonderful setting with a playground in the back garden although it did not feel friendly to children. We were a large party with several children ranging from 1yr to 9yr eating dinner at the same time as about 3 other tables in the dining room. We had a mostly good experience, however there were a few odd encounters with the manager when we asked to leave through the back patio doors to go to the playground, the manager told us that the door was locked and children should remain in their designated seating area while at the pub. We had pre-booked our meals several weeks before using the very good online ordering system, assigning a name to each plate, but I received an eye roll from the manager when I couldn't remember exactly which one was mine. Why assign names on the ordering system if they are not going to be used. We also felt uncomfortable when the manager seems unhappy with us for not ordering food for the 1yr baby and only a starter for the 3yr. Overall, it is a really great place, but somewhat ruined by a manager with a very strange approach to customer service and families with small children. Based on TripAdvisor reviews, we are not the only ones to have such experiences.

Nice setting, shame about the rest. I last visited years ago after the refurb for Mother’s Day, it was fine, but not enough to draw me back until yesterday. This time, we stopped in more for the location than the food, it’s in a lovely spot with good walking routes nearby, very similar to places like the Elm Tree at Elmton or Greendale. Places like this often charge a little more, which is fair enough when the quality and service are there to match. Unfortunately, that wasn’t really the case. The Sunday roast was underwhelming. Gravy was thin and overly generous. Paid extra for meat and received two slices of lamb and two of pork. Vegetables were served in a single bowl for the table and looked like they came from a frozen packet, not much care in the presentation, or the prep. No one asked if we’d like sauces or another drink, or if everything was alright with the meal maybe they knew the answer? While I’d intended to order dessert, I didn’t feel the need after the main. I did consider mentioning it to the staff, but it’s difficult to know what to say when it’s just the basics being missed. It’s frustrating. There’s clearly potential here, a great location and all the right ingredients to be excellent. But the standard just isn’t where it should be and if it wasn’t for location and delusion it’d really struggle.

We often go to The Parish Oven for a drink and or a meal as you can guarantee the food is always excellent. The pub is very tastefully decorated and very comfortable and the Landlord Billy, keeps it pristine and welcomes everyone through the door. The pub also has lovely our door seating and a great play area for kids. Took some friends with us for a meal yesterday before the quiz and they were all saying how good it was. I had the steak & stilton pie, always very tasty, and my friends raved about the fish pie.....so nice! Genuinely recommend any time to visit the Parish Oven especially Wednesday - quiz night - there's a quiz, also a memes quiz, play your cards right, open the box and Irish bingo so plenty of variety....and Billy makes the evening so entertaining with his Yorkshire wit and sense of humour! Starts at 8pm every Wednesday and highly, highly recommend!

We had not been to the Parish Oven for quite a few years as it had gone downhill badly. However, recent reviews made us decide to give it another go and we are so glad we did. The service was excellent. We ordered starters brie, salt n pepper squid, garlic mushrooms and olives - couldn't fault them. The mains 4 sirloins all cooked differently, and they all arrived together, cooked to perfection with hand cut chips and all the trimmings. The Diane sauce was mouthwatering. 2 child desserts (as couldn't manage adult portions) again, lovely and tasty. Without a doubt, I would highly recommend and will certainly be returning.

Came in for Sunday lunch. Food was excellent, hot, plentiful and well presented. Beef was tender, horseradish sauce was delicious. Our daughter had a child's roast and the portion was massive! Nice ambiance but was a little chilly in the area we sat in. I think 4.00 for a pint of diet coke is expensive. 4.80 for lemonade and lime. Other than that it was spot on.

I recently came for the festive fayre with my partner and we will definitely be back! Our starters were full of flavour and good portion sizes. For our mains we both had the turkey roast dinner and it was piping hot. The potatoes were crispy and the veg was hot and fresh and served in a bowl for us to share which I found a great idea as I don’t always like a lot of veg. For desert we both opted for the cheesecake which was baileys flavour. It was garnished well with fresh fruit and came with pouring cream. Overall the restaurant had a lovely atmosphere and the food was fresh and amazing portion sizes. I couldn’t disagree more with the previous review talking about the cheesecake coming with ice cream and the ‘menu being wrong’ the place will definitely be recommended highly to all of our family and friends and we hope the festive fayre is an annual tradition!

Updating my review as everyone is saying the food was amazing . Christmas Fayre Menu I was disappointed with not having vegetables, I didn't want to dig through the overflowing bowl of vegetables. A large bowl of vegetables were plonked in the middle of a table for all 6 of us . It looked like left overs scraped from plates , you couldn't see what was in it , as a deep bowl . No one wanted to stand up and rake through the mix , it was messy . Just mixed up cabbage and a few Brussels on top , never got to discover what was underneath . Please serve your vegetables in an accessible dish . Preferably seperste dishes . I also was looking forward to ice cream with my cheesecake , but we all got severed copious amounts of cream . The take out for my son and his girlfriend, they absolutely loved it . I think my issue was loving vegetables and them being impossible to dish up . And cream instead of icecream. Everyone thought it came with cream . But menu said icecream. So all in a lovely meal . But needs some adjustments by manager !

We visited the parish oven mid afternoon for a Sunday roast dinner. It was a last minute booking as we needed our spirits lifting after a weekend washout. Myself my wife and our teenage daughter arrived mid afternoon for our meal. We were quickly seated and put in our drinks order while we chose our food. The Sunday lunch menu was simple yet varied. All the usual roast meats were covered as well as gammon and chicken which seem to be rarities nowadays. When we were ready our order was taken by the waitress (Charlotte). I ordered Turkey my wife ordered gammon and our daughter had the children’s roast chicken. We did order extra Yorkshire puds and extra roasties. After a short wait we were presented with a table full of food. The mains were well presented and cooked well, they were accompanied by a large serving bowl full of fresh vegetables. The Yorkshire puds and roasts were nice and crispy. The food was piping hot and presented well by people who know what they are doing. On leaving we thanked the chef and the staff for all their hard work on providing an Excellent experience and we will be back with our friends and family.

The chicken nugget and chips meal from the childrens menu (which i was not too happy about it not being a full meal). The chicken nuggets were crispy and succulent with a good quality of chicken. The chips were nice nice and fluffy with extremely nice crunch. The beans were scrumptious, however the peas had a distinctive onion taste to them and multiple pieces of onion in the them, which was not specified on the menu and i have to say i was rather disappointed. The glasses of coke were extortionate in price (£4.40!!!!!!!!) on the other hand was not watered down and tasted very nice, it was a fairly good meal.

Have been here regularly. Pre-booked for afternoon tea. Wow, it’s increased in price recently. Pint of Cruzcampo £6.50, white wine and soda £6.90 and afternoon tea now £23.95 each. Arrived 5 minutes early but had to wait 20 minutes for it. Customer service was poor throughout - no thought, care or customer focus. Had to get up to get condiments and ask for a tea. No explanation of what we’d got. It was mostly lovely; they still don’t know how to make scones properly though. We enjoyed the food, but the disregard for customers, slowness and increased prices will make us think twice about returning.

Popped in on my way back from Shirebrook as it was a lovely late afternoon. Pint of Amstel £ 5.45 which has an alcoholic volume of 4.1 %. So it's a weak lager. Had seen previous reviews about how expensive the drinks had become but didn't realise it was that bad. This was a 50 % increase on my last visit so will definitely make this the LAST this time. Feel sorry for the lovely Thorpe Salvin villagers to have to suffer prices such as this. This does - however- encourage drinking at home- well done.

Service was terrible, waitresses were moody, delivery of food was slow, order taking was lazy, only half cleared the table following mains - just generally very sloppy. Inside the menu there is a warning that service may be slow as food is fresh, that's not an excuse to be poor, particularly with the food not even being amazing! Inside was quite cold, music didn't really come on for an hour so not much of an atmosphere. We were pretty much the first group in the pub after opening, so the place wasn't even busy! We returned to the Parish Oven having had a good experience earlier this year. Unfortunately this visit was extremely disappointing. Customer Service is severely lacking. We were shown to our table and told what wasn’t available on the menu. The waitress didn’t tell us what the specials were. We waited for her to return to take a drinks order…she didn’t! We had to go to the bar to order ourselves! After sometime a different waitress arrived to take our order. Our food arrived within a reasonable time, but no one came back to check if the food was ok…unfortunately it was mixed! Two of the meals were well cooked, two could only really be considered as less than mediocre. The venue was not busy (a bit concerning for a sunny Saturday evening) but it was difficult to get the attention of any member of staff. And when we did highlight the concerns with our food, we were offered to have the cost of one of our drinks taken off the bill! Having read some of the reviews on here, for some time there have been issues with staffing and customer service and unfortunately this has not been addressed! We won’t be returning!

Came a few weeks ago, the blonde haired girl working on the bar went above and beyond to make our experience enjoyable! Will definitely be returning.

I never write reviews but after our Sunday lunch experience yesterday, I felt a review is needed. This is such a beautiful venue & outstanding village location, the food & the staff are really letting it down! Someone needs to take note & action a change quickly as I’ve not been so disappointed in such terrible service & average food for a long time! I won’t list everything we experienced as it’s unfair. I just hope someone from the venue reads this and contacts me privately so I can advise how bad of an experience we all had as group of people who were so looking forward to a lovely Sunday lunch. Massive changes to management at this venue need to happen quickly! Such a shame & wont be recommending this venue as it stands at present.

Terrible in every way. We are here a few weeks ago and left a poor review on trip advisor which seems to have mysteriously disappeared! Be aware of lots of fake positive reviews on there. The food was utterly dreadful, the staff were rude and unhelpful and the whole experience was embarrassingly bad. To the point that I refused to pay the whole bill. Meat not cooked, half of menu unavailable, eternal wait for service. We were told this place had improved. It hasn’t. Avoid at all costs and be aware of good reviews! Trust me!

Booked a table for 4 on Saturday evening & thoroughly enjoyed it. Lovely atmosphere & food. Served by Miles who was excellent. If I lived in Thorpe Salvin I'd be in everynight

This pub is totally amazing. The atmosphere is perfect for a quiet dinner and the food is absolutely fantastic. I had pasta with seafood and from my proper Italian point of view it was the best pasta I have ever had here in UK!! Staff is amazing .. we have been served by Jack and he made sure that our dinner experience was smooth and lovely. The pudding was also delicious, I had chocolate brownie and it was warm and soft. Definitely we will come back!!

Lovely place just what you'd expect from a country pub. Had quite a wait for food ,think it may all be cooked fresh which is OK if told first so you know there could be a wait. Plenty to eat for me but maybe a bit more for the men.

Came here on a whim as our usual was fully booked. We booked online and were Seated earlier than the reservation as we were starving! Staff really friendly and helpful, accommodating with helping choose a nice wine. Ordered Sunday lunch, and I even asked for a slice of a second meat which was no problem. Food was absolutely incredible. Chicken tender and full of flavour and the gravy was out of this world. Everything fresh and tasty, and we have ditched the old local for the parish oven.

We had to eat in the bar. There were drinkers at the bar and their language was foul. No one stopped them. Will not go there again.

Afternoon tea, big disappointment! Poor quality food, nothing like the menu I'd been shown when I booked. Poor service waited 45 minutes for food to be brought to table, had to keep asking for things that were missing. Would not recommend at all!!

What an absolutely amazing place ... stylish, cozy, and the food is to die for! ... couldn't ask for better service from our waitress; great knowledge and recommendations. Had the Chicken supreme Kiev and was absolutely blown away by the flavour ... loved it!!!

Excellent food, drinks and prices. Great location away from Main Street. Fast friendly service and really enjoyed it. I had an excellent club sandwich and then a freshly baked scone. There’s a great choice of cakes on display Would definitely recommend

Beautiful looking pub, attentive staff, generous portions and proper homemade type of food. Starters ordered were garlic mushrooms and belly pork, delicious and generous portions. For mains, hunter's chicken, probably largest hunter's chicken I've ever had, with really nice homemade slaw rather than out of tub that you'd get any many pub chains, would also recommend the onion rings 👌🏽 as they are made on site rather than out of bag. Also very nice balcony/beer garden at the back to have a drink in the sun. I would recommend and will be visiting again soon hopefully 😀

5 ⭐️ family lunch out. Friendly and professional service. The empty plates from all 8 of us spoke for it self. Every dish was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. Thank you Bev and Helena as always. We'll see you both very soon. X

Tired, we decided to go out for dinner and selected this Toby Carvery as it was local: we were glad we did. Our server was Sapphire and she was very personable: she was helpful and did not rush us, when we needed more time to consider the menu. Nothing was too much trouble for her and we felt she was an excellent ambassador for the chain. The carvery dinners we had were excellent: good choice of meat and vegetables and it was all hot. We will definitely return based on this experience.

We visit the Moorlands quite often on Sunday mornings for their delicious breakfasts and free refills of coffee. Always a nice atmosphere and great scenery to admire when sitting outside.
