Went for my birthday, a little far to travel for us but we thought we'd try and weren't disappointed. Big helpings of food, excellent quality, very tasty portions indeed. Main thing is, it's a medium sized room and has a great vibe to it, so relaxing. Friendly service. Will definitely come here again.

Beautiful meal on Friday evening. I had the herb crusted cod, the freshest fish I've ever had (and I love my fish) and it was a lovely thick piece cooked to perfection. It was served with asparagus and a variety of fresh vegetables also cooked expertly. The butter sauce was divine! My husband had the lamb curry which had a lot of good sized chunks of lamb in it and again was perfect. Not our first visit, had many tasty meals here, it just gets better and better. Highly, highly recommend this exquisite charming country pub with impressive decor and food to match!

Sunday dinner here is a must, fabulous food, fresh, hot and delicious, good menu choice, very friendly and helpful staff. I would recommend you try for Sunday lunch, it has a nice relaxed feel, not crowded into a small space, we will definitely make this a must for Sunday lunch again.

Really rude manager,informed us we had to pay upfront if we wanted to dine outside. Dont mind in principle but attitude really poor,also witnessed rudeness to other customers. Food not great myself and guest had lasagna both of us suffered that night into friday. Wasnt first visit but not sure i want to subject my guests to his behaviour and disrespect for his guests.

Another great night of free entertainment. This is the fourth night we have been to and have really enjoyed the entertainer provided. Don't know where the manager sources them but they are very good and professional. Last night we had Hannah Hudson in an act which was called Pretty in Ink and she was absolutely fantastic. Pink was her speciality but covered a quite diverse range of music. We can't wait for the next evening on Saturday 27th July.

Perfect lunch with welcoming friendly and attentive staff. We are familiar with the Parish Oven and revisit every now and then. Never fails us and this visit was no exception. Food was tasty fresh and very well presented by a great member of staff. Superb.

Have been here regularly. Pre-booked for afternoon tea. Wow, it’s increased in price recently. Pint of Cruzcampo £6.50, white wine and soda £6.90 and afternoon tea now £23.95 each. Arrived 5 minutes early but had to wait 20 minutes for it. Customer service was poor throughout - no thought, care or customer focus. Had to get up to get condiments and ask for a tea. No explanation of what we’d got. It was mostly lovely; they still don’t know how to make scones properly though. We enjoyed the food, but the disregard for customers, slowness and increased prices will make us think twice about returning.

Popped in on my way back from Shirebrook as it was a lovely late afternoon. Pint of Amstel £ 5.45 which has an alcoholic volume of 4.1 %. So it's a weak lager. Had seen previous reviews about how expensive the drinks had become but didn't realise it was that bad. This was a 50 % increase on my last visit so will definitely make this the LAST this time. Feel sorry for the lovely Thorpe Salvin villagers to have to suffer prices such as this. This does - however- encourage drinking at home- well done.

Absolute shocking, food, service and atmosphere well below expectations. Filthy tables, food on floor and the person serving wasn’t approachable, courteous or pleasant. Place needs shutting down, staff changing and to take a good look at the menu, at worse food and vegetables pre heated or microwaved.

a party of six booked friday pm , warm welcome and o e of our party has mobility issues which we notified them off when booking made .... on seeing how poor his mobility is , the staff changed out table so he was nearer the facilities and it deffo made his visit easier and more relaxed ... so a big thank you for that as it was done discreetly and without fuss . the food , was hot tasty and so nice , presentation . it's said u eat with your eyes , well we certainly cleared our plates , food looked amazing and tasted even better . 3 courses and drinks for six .. it was relaxed and pleasant afternoon .... would highly recommend, and we will deffo be visiting again. and spreading the word

It was a lovely sunny day, we'd booked inside and instead we sat outside. They happily coped with this and served outside fine. We had two dogs and it is dog friendly.

Mama mia themed afternoon tea was delicious with both hot and cold savoury dishes and excellent selection of deserts. Not a sandwich in sight. All home made and very tasty. We were made very welcome in lovely surroundings.

We have visited a few times, and the prices keep rising. On our last visit the steaks and drinks had increased again within a week by more than a few pounds. I understand costs have increased, but there's extra costs, and then there's greed. In conclusion, they have lost a customer as their are other restaurants nearby which are cheaper!

Called in today (9.3.24)for a spot of lunch with a friend. The place has been refurbished since I last visited which is a few years ago and it looks lovely. The staff were very friendly and very accommodating. My friend had a chicken wrap which she enjoyed. I myself had a jacket potato with cheese and was disappointed with it. It was very dry like I was eating cardboard but ate it as I was hungry. It cost me £12.75 for a jacket potato, a bit of salad and a glass of pop which I found extortionate. Overall a very nice visit .

Superb venue. 11 diners visited for an 18th birthday meal. Fantastic food, lovely surroundings and a 1st class friendly service. Cannot recommend enough.

Not a great pub at all. Food was okay, nothing to write home about. Service was terrible, waitresses were moody, delivery of food was slow, order taking was lazy, only half cleared the table following mains - just generally very sloppy. Inside the menu there is a warning that service may be slow as food is fresh, that's not an excuse to be poor, particularly with the food not even being amazing! Inside was quite cold, music didn't really come on for an hour so not much of an atmosphere. We were pretty much the first group in the pub after opening, so the place wasn't even busy! Honestly a place to avoid and the prices aren't cheap either Will try the beehive further down the road next time

Had afternoon tea there this afternoon and it was Willy Wonka themed I must say it was absolutely delicious, would definitely go again

This is an amazing pub and the service is great, the only thing letting it down is the chef. 4 times we have tried food here and 3 times we have been left very dissapointed, from inedible steak and Stilton pie (mostly just cheese), soft, soggy, squid with a strange fajita spice mix on, to a full sized camenbert with 5 tiny pieces of bread, no where near enough to finish the cheese. The menu and chef need looking at. Apart from that the place is faultless.

prebooked a table for high tea 2pm on saturday. the place was quite empty probable due to bad weather. the high tea includes 5 savours (tomato soup, mini fish and chips, mini chicken in BBQ sauce burger, prawn cocktail and alcoholic drink)and 5 sweets (chocolate brownie, cheese cake, tiramisu, scone, pineapple fritter). the high tea was ok. the hunter chicken salad and chip was delicious. The ice cold latte was served in large jar. arrived 1pm on friday, the pub was relatively quiet. the prices of main meals may find a bit dear for some people. we ordered belly pork, moussaka and slow cooked beef. all of them were delicious. they were kindly changed the ice cream to custard for sticky toffee pudding for me. the dessert was good and not over sweeted.

Went to enjoy afternoon tea at the Parish Oven today (07/07/23). The theme was cocktails. The food, as always was delicious, in particular, the Bloody Mary Tomato soup - best tomato soup ever! Highly recommend everyone to try an afternoon tea here, you wont be disappointed!

We visited here tonight, we hadn't booked and it was incredibly busy but Billy managed to get us a table anyway. Couldn't fault the service despite how busy it was and all of the staff were incredibly friendly. The food was exceptional and the steaks were cooked to perfection! Can recommend the Reef and Beef as well as the mixed grill. Absolutely would return again. Big bonus is that they're dog friendly.

The food was really good high standard. Having been a while ago had an excellent duck breast cooked perfectly, I ventured back and had a lovely moussaka. The belly pork on a bed of mash is very nice. Would highly recommend a visit. Dog friendly pub.

Really great food, enjoyed everything. Country pub with a great friendly atmosphere. Only 4 stars for the service because I personally hate being the only one standing at the bar waiting a considerable amount of time when there're 3 members of staff milling around and can't be bothered to acknowledge your presence, maybe it's just me.... Would definitely recommend to anyone.

We returned to the Parish Oven having had a good experience earlier this year. Unfortunately this visit was extremely disappointing. Customer Service is severely lacking. We were shown to our table and told what wasn’t available on the menu. The waitress didn’t tell us what the specials were. We waited for her to return to take a drinks order…she didn’t! We had to go to the bar to order ourselves! After sometime a different waitress arrived to take our order. Our food arrived within a reasonable time, but no one came back to check if the food was ok…unfortunately it was mixed! Two of the meals were well cooked, two could only really be considered as less than mediocre. The venue was not busy (a bit concerning for a sunny Saturday evening) but it was difficult to get the attention of any member of staff. And when we did highlight the concerns with our food, we were offered to have the cost of one of our drinks taken off the bill! Having read some of the reviews on here, for some time there have been issues with staffing and customer service and unfortunately this has not been addressed! We won’t be returning!

Not very busy food ok service bit slow

I never write reviews but after our Sunday lunch experience yesterday, I felt a review is needed. This is such a beautiful venue & outstanding village location, the food & the staff are really letting it down! Someone needs to take note & action a change quickly as I’ve not been so disappointed in such terrible service & average food for a long time! I won’t list everything we experienced as it’s unfair. I just hope someone from the venue reads this and contacts me privately so I can advise how bad of an experience we all had as group of people who were so looking forward to a lovely Sunday lunch. Massive changes to management at this venue need to happen quickly! Such a shame & wont be recommending this venue as it stands at present.

Terrible in every way. We are here a few weeks ago and left a poor review on trip advisor which seems to have mysteriously disappeared! Be aware of lots of fake positive reviews on there. The food was utterly dreadful, the staff were rude and unhelpful and the whole experience was embarrassingly bad. To the point that I refused to pay the whole bill. Meat not cooked, half of menu unavailable, eternal wait for service. We were told this place had improved. It hasn’t. Avoid at all costs and be aware of good reviews! Trust me!

This pub is totally amazing. The atmosphere is perfect for a quiet dinner and the food is absolutely fantastic. I had pasta with seafood and from my proper Italian point of view it was the best pasta I have ever had here in UK!! Staff is amazing .. we have been served by Jack and he made sure that our dinner experience was smooth and lovely. The pudding was also delicious, I had chocolate brownie and it was warm and soft. Definitely we will come back!!

We had the March afternoon tea and wow there was loads and all fresh and beautiful. I hear its under new management and iv got to say was beautiful. If you haven't been recently give it ago .

Lovely place just what you'd expect from a country pub. Had quite a wait for food ,think it may all be cooked fresh which is OK if told first so you know there could be a wait. Plenty to eat for me but maybe a bit more for the men.

Came here on a whim as our usual was fully booked. We booked online and were Seated earlier than the reservation as we were starving! Staff really friendly and helpful, accommodating with helping choose a nice wine. Ordered Sunday lunch, and I even asked for a slice of a second meat which was no problem. Food was absolutely incredible. Chicken tender and full of flavour and the gravy was out of this world. Everything fresh and tasty, and we have ditched the old local for the parish oven.

Had a nice meal and drink here but it does not have the biggest choice on the menu! Not overly busy at lunch.

We had to eat in the bar. There were drinkers at the bar and their language was foul. No one stopped them. Will not go there again.

Afternoon tea, big disappointment! Poor quality food, nothing like the menu I'd been shown when I booked. Poor service waited 45 minutes for food to be brought to table, had to keep asking for things that were missing. Would not recommend at all!!

What an absolutely amazing place ... stylish, cozy, and the food is to die for! ... couldn't ask for better service from our waitress; great knowledge and recommendations. Had the Chicken supreme Kiev and was absolutely blown away by the flavour ... loved it!!!

Managed to get a table without booking, which was great ,as I know this place is always busy. Me and my partner ordered rump steak and chips , excellent cooking of the steak and the blue cheese sauce was delicious too. Onion rings and chunky home cooked chips were equally excellent. The only down side was the waitress , giving us the wrong steaks ,so we had to swap at the table from plate to plate ,as we'd cut into the steak to discover the mistake. The young lad that seated us wasn't that friendly either, seemed a little put out. Nevertheless, the chefs certainly made up for the rest.

Went here for food and drinks for a birthday celebration. Food was amazing, all locally sourced ingredients and paired beautifully. The atmosphere and decor is very calming making this place a brilliant stop on a journey or for a simple Sunday lunch.

Always gone to PO over the years. I don't know what it was we were greeted straight away wine on the table but nothing else I had to ask and order at the bar after 40mins. . Maybe it's the way they do it which I can live with but let me know on arrival. The staff were polite the food good Jury out

Do not eat here! Upon arrival to our booking at 4:00pm for a Sunday roast, we sat and all four of us wanted beef dinner, they told us there was no beef. I had also been to this restaurant the prior week and they told me the same thing but the waiter ended up bringing us beef anyway so it showed the lack of communication and disorganisation between the chef, management and staff. We wanted to give it another chance but safe to say they have blown it and won’t be returning. When our food came out, the food for what we paid was ridiculously small (see picture of mash potato especially!). When we asked the waiter if they honestly thought it was acceptable he was very honest with us which we appreciated and said no, we asked for extra mash and the waiter said that there was not enough potato. The manager Kyle came over and said to us “what’s the problem” so straight away we knew he wasn’t going to accept any kind of responsibility or take our opinions seriously and try and help us as his customer. When we asked him if he thought that the portion size was acceptable, his first words were “we have a large party booked tonight, so we are saving the mash”. We then said to him that we are paying full price like the large group are so why are we entitled to less of a portion size than them. It’s not our fault they haven’t stocked up enough, they should serve portion sizes normally and then if they run out, come up with a solution for those like any other restaurant. He then said to us “this is our normal portion size” which was clear he was trying to come up with an excuse for his original comment after probably realising how unprofessional he has been. No sign of any kind of apologetic approach, full bill paid and manager nowhere to be seen upon us leaving.

We went on a Tuesday at 1.45 and the pub wasn't busy. We didn't pre book but not a problem for the young man who worked in the food area. Decorated a little old fashioned with a mix match of furniture. We were given paper menus that had less dishes than the menu on line. But we had the food we wanted. I had a starter for first course and another as my main due to my small appetite and eating difficulties, no problem for the kitchen. We would give the food a lower star rating of 4 as some of it was not to our taste. Both burgers ordered came with ingredients on that were requested to be taken off, ie: onion, tomato and pickle sauce. But other than that were enjoyed by both diners. My soup was boiling hot, tasty and the warm ciabbata was lovely. My main/starter of scallops with pea puree and black pudding nibbles was lovely and scallops fried just right. We didn't have desert as too full and wasn't anything on it different to tempt us. There was a children's menu of usual child dishes but a good choice. Staff were friendly and service was good. We would go back and try some of other menu items if the menu is the same as the one online. Perhaps we would be better checking with the pub before hand. Thank you to the staff!

Yes ,a 5.Beautiful setting ,incredible seating, beer and other drinks excellent,service impeccable, surroundings astounding.The food menu ,no doubt,deserves a very good chance of pleasing every taste.Called the 'Parish Oven'because of the link with oven cooking through the years.Well worth a visit.

4 of us went for lunch but we hadn't booked. We were told that there was a party of 11 due in, in 15 minutes and that two food orders were already waiting. Top and bottom is that 'company policy' dictates that we may not get our food order for over an hour. Nice of the bar person to let us know but not an efficient pub. Worked out fine though because the next pub we went to was brilliant!

Superb food and great service. Online booking process was easy and fast, we didn’t wait long for our food and the portions were massive. Honestly didn’t have any room for desserts, but the food was so good we ordered them anyway
